Several weapon research facilities remain operational; hidden from the public eye, they’re kept alive as an ‘insurance policy’ against unforeseen threats. Within these clandestine halls, scientists work tirelessly to design powerful combat systems never before imagined by humankind. When a security breach threatens one of these facilities (Arch City), you’ll take control of the most advanced hardware ever developed: a Human-Operated Remote Droid prototype.
Elite pilots of the advanced H.O.R.D. chassis are tasked with blasting through endless squads of rebellious bots. These aren't just your average Serve N' Show bots either - Charge Bots, Slice Bots, Bouncing Betties, Crab Bots, and Hyper Turrets, to name a few. Surviving that maelstrom, well, no one has made it. Yet.
Can You Kite?
The best of the best know how to fight the toasters without taking damage. By running away from charging enemies while blasting backwards at them, a well equipped H.O.R.D. pilot can keep their distance while unloading ordnance down range. This gun-play-ballet is known as 'kiting' and mastering it will serve you well against any foe, but especially:
Pingbot: Pingbots come in threes and wind up sniper shots. They are pretty easy to predict and have an extremely slow attack, but left alone they can ping down targets.
Medbot: The ultimate companion, this self sufficient side piece will heal itself and whatever it’s guarding. Players may unlock Medbot in the Workshop for themselves, but they will also face off against enemy Medbots who can turn any unit into a damage soaking beast!
Gatbot: With a slow turret tracking speed players can out-circle it’s main guns, but Gatbot’s backup weapons often shutdown the best laid plans. Full support from a Point Defense and Medbot turn this mobile bruiser into an unstoppable bullet hose.

A solid, stylish game that didn't get the notice and recognition it deserved.
Quite a fun game, its like a top down shooter but you can upgrade your character and buy new weapons, pretty fun, only 14 levels though, would like to see more, there is a hardcore mode though if you're crazy. The game is pretty doable at first but towards the end I feel like I died way too often despite having the best upgrades and guns and stuff so bit unbalanced there but its not too bad, definitely worth a try if you're into like top down shooter type stuff. 6.5/10
I love the soundtrack for this game, the colors are awesome, and the game play is challenging but not frustrating. Pretty solid game imo.

This game does have two critical bugs, both of them seriously affect the game and can make you unable to complete the game. Dev doesn't responds to threads on forums. Don't support such practices and don't purchase this game.

Kite manages to capture that nostalgic gameplay of top-down shooters that I use to play on NES and Genesis. Not only it looks like a retro game, but it actually feels like you are playing one, something that not many developers can accomplish. I expected a simple arcade game, and I got one of the most stat heavy Run&Guns ever made. I am pretty sure the upgrade system is a little nod to the Syndicate, even the colors of the game remind me of that aesthetic. You basically play as a robot and you can buy different implants that will improve your stats. Kite is actually both cyberpunk and synthwave, that is about as dope as the art-style can get. Overall a pretty faithful retro game, just a bit lite on content.
If you get a S-rank on any stage, you will get a unique item and one extra skill point, which is a very good way of encouraging speedruns. There are 4 different skill trees so you can play around with different builds. It has a good variety of weapons, most of them have unique attack and a secondary attack. Active abilities include time-slow, shield placement, turbo and few other skills that you can purchase. I would say that gameplay feels very dynamic as far as this genre goes. The only big problem here is a lack of variety when it comes to stages and objectives. I also found the only boss in the game to be very anticlimactic, it just did not have a worthwhile villain.
Pros:

Cons:
- repetitive objectives, low on content
- needed more boss fights
- the navigation help could have been better
Overall Thoughts: 7/10
It is a very nostalgic and fun Run&Gun, but I wanted more variety in content. One boss fight does not cut it for me these days. Otherwise, a good tribute to some of the classics and I enjoyed it for about 4 hours (you can get more time out of it if you want to grind S-Ranks and hardcore mode).

Kite is a hidden gem of smooth 80's s retro with enough old school NES difficulty nestled in there to satisfy even the most masochistic gamer. I can't even imagine what an optimized speed run of this game would look like. If only it came as a cartridge...

KITE is an incredible twin stick shooter with gorgeous pixel art, a bomb synthwave soundtrack, and a retro experience that blasts you back to 80's gaming. Playing KITE reminds me of laying in the sun as a kid staring up at the TV while playing NES games all afternoon. Full. Fledged. Nostalgia.
The intricacy of the skill tree, the sheer amount of weapon selection, and the details behind every stat and attribute bring in a customizable element found in more modern games like League and WOW. Younger me never would have dreamed of being able to have control over equipment and weapons choices while playing a game like SmashTV.
The avatar, Mags, is a badass woman who charges into beautifully designed levels with an insanely satisfying and juicy destructive environment. The levels are immersive with lots of hidden Easter Eggs to find and collect. Each of the 14 levels vary with different aesthetics, objectives, and bad guys. The story is set in a retro-future with secret weapons manufacturing and robotic protections, which of course, go awry. It's up to you and Mags to comb through the manufacturing plant taking out any Bots that have turned and all the while saving the resident Scientists from death. Using those rescued scientists, you can get creative in the Workshop making better and stronger weapons, armor, equipment.
Depending on what AI you're fighting, what skills you've developed, and which equipment you have outfitted, some weapons perform better than others. No matter. Mags carries 6 weapons on her HORD at all times! 4 one-handed weapons and 2 two-handed weapons. Personally, I like to rock 2 mele weapons in one set, and ranged guns in another so I'm prepared to destroy the mass of evil robots!
You think there's a big variety of gear and weapons to choose from? You better believe there's a TON of different enemies you'll be fighting against, from tiny little PingBots to the annoying, yet easily destructible SlashBots [EDIT: SliceBots] to the terrifying and nearly-impossible-to-kill GatBots. Expect the difficulty to really ramp up at the end of the game with a giant-ass Boss; DakaBot. DakaBot is reminiscent of a Dr Robotnik creation utilizing bullet hell, enemy waves, and of course, a mechanical evil laugh. Decode the pattern and save humanity!
KITE is worth every penny. The story is a fresh take on humanity vs AI, the customization allows for never-ending replay value, and the need to get an "S" on every level inspires speed running at its finest.
10/10 would recommend!
I was going to start with saying if this game had been released in the mega drive/snes era, that it would be considered thoroughly legendary, but there is just too much going on within the game as a whole for it to have existed back then.
You dual wield a combination of guns that are energy based and/or ballistic. You fire them independently with the left/right mouse buttons/controller triggers. You can combine two of these smaller guns into a larger, more power/ammo hungry gun, which then has two fire modes. You can flip between at will. You start with two lightsabers for melee weapons, which combine into a bazooka. You can craft guns and mix and match them, getting different effects and shot patterns.
You have two "auras", one that increases movement speed and dexterity(ranged damage) and another that boosts strength.
You have a shield bar and a health bar, The shield bar is quickish to regenerate and if you can keep it full while avoiding damage, your health will slowly comeback
You have "Supers". A static shield you can pop and stay within for x amount of time, and the other one heals and boosts ammo regen.
You have a "Tempo" gauge that depletes as you use your Turbo Legs(sprint) and Slo-Mo. You have cooldown meters for stuff like a dash that you activate with a double press.
You have stats and skills to put points into.
Destructible props with lots of stuff to pick up.
The way it looks either appeals to you or not. I love it. The UI and the general theme of the game are well matched and the music has an excellent sombre synthy vibe that fits like a glove. It very much feels like a mouse and keyboard game to me, or a M/Kb set up on a steam controller, which is how I have been rolling. Fast and punchy is the short story. I've not been finding it incredibly difficult but there is a ranking system for each level, C, B, A, S and I've been getting a B most of the time. The higher the rank the better the reward. The rewards go from the usual points and xp up to special items for getting the top S rank, and after that, there is a Hardcore mode.
I'm struggling to find something I don't love about this. The blurb on the store page comparing it to Zombies Ate My Neighbours and an isometric Contra really hit the nail on the head. I'm delighted with it.

I love the gameplay, art and mostly the music! You should release a soundtrack.
Solid little action shooter. Basically all about maximizing your times and points in levels, with an RPG like upgrade system, and a modest but decent variety of guns available.
Needs more breadth and a good deal more content to be truly great, but this is a rock solid foundation at time of writing.
Solid early access game. Smooth gameplay and seemingly plenty of content. I've only got a bit of time in so far but I'm looking forward to playing some more!

What a refreshing piece of beautiful pixel art and entertaining gameplay combined. It takes several classic mechanics and puts them on overdrive, then somehow finds a way to give many modern elements a dose of retro-bodacious dignity. From the art direction, to the RPG elements, all the way down to the fast-paced running & gunning, Kite is a game that I'll be talking about for a long time.
Excited to see more of this talent!
Fun old school shooter with huge RPG elements. It feels like somthing I would have played on the Amiga but with modern amenities
I bought this game today and what a blast, very good game despite of is early acess.
In termos of gameplay is fast, tought and sometimes a little frenetic.
You can upgrade your skills with a skill tree and can craft gear for your character.
The pixel art is fine, the sound its fine too and for this price tag its a blast.
Lets see what the developer can bring in future updates.
