Amazing game, beautiful mechanics, makes me want to smash my monitor sometimes though.
There are two games that I have cried at in my life, Portal Two, a masterpiece that has some of the best story and gameplay ever, and Celeste. This game, means so much to me, it was one of my first introductions to gaming, with my older sister letting me play it on her computer during quarantine, and when I was older and finally got the game, it was some of the most fun i have ever had. The addictive mechanics that flow into each other as the levels progress, with each previous one adding on to the next, and the story about overcoming your fears and self doubts, this game was addictive. But after a few weeks of playing, when I finally reached the last stage, I cried at the ending, this game has such a good resolution, and with all that this game meant to me, I was sad to have to finish it. This game, is one of the best games I have ever played, and I would highly recommend playing it, 11/10, just get the game already.
It's vey hard so if you are looking for a game that you won't scream at than maybe not this, but if you are than i very much recommend this game the story and gameplay are very good.
I played this on gamepass a while ago and eventually got it here.
Having climbed the mountain twice I can say that it will test you in all of the best ways and maybe even teach you somethings you never knew about yourself.
The game is solid and any mistake is on the player for poor execution or just not quite understanding the gimmick yet.
I will say that the post game is where the game loses some point however, the leap in difficulty will leave you with cramped hands and regret, but it'll still be there when you are ready to finish it.
This game is for people that need a challenge, and more people should be willing to accept it.
After 100%ing the game (moonberry, hearts, B sides and C sides; just no golden strawberries). This game is simply the best platformer game I have ever played. The dash mechanic completely transforms level design to add so much more precision and agility that feels so damn satisfying. Not only that, but the devs constantly push the limits of the mechanics in each map that require you to constantly think about positioning, grabbing walls, jumping and using your dash. The game constantly ramps the challenge until you feel like an absolute beast in accomplishing levels. The devs have thought about every minute detail that makes you feel rewarded when playing the game.
The game can be frustratingly hard at times but never feels unfair for you to want to quit. The OST is genuinely so good that honestly you could just sit there and listen to the music. It is just so damn good. It is a must buy game for any platformer enthusiast and is SO CHEAP for how much gameplay you can get out of it. Why are you still reading this? BUY THE GAME!
Yes, the tags of super-tight, ultra-precise, and difficult are true. Do not be fooled by the cute sprites for this game will challenge your mind and specifically your trigger finger. I would advise anyone who wishes to enter monkhood in the future to finish this game as your patience and discipline will be unmatched. Also can someone find a Lena song that doesn't slap because I'm struggling.
Very well made character controller, level design, story, and basically everything else! Very hard and not for the faint of heart
Best game I've ever played. I never get tired of playing it. The movement is smooth as butter and the platforming design is unparalleled. It cleverly weaves the gameplay into the storytelling, further elevating the already beautiful narrative. The visual aesthetic is charming, and the detail never fails to impress me. The music composed by Lena Raine is irreplaceable, and is a defining part of the experience. Simply put, I have never seen a better game. No other title manages to do it all. Nothing is like Celeste.
This is the best platformer game ever made. Period.
Every jump, dash and grab has been so intricately thought out, from design down to the code itself, to make this game satisfying. It is the only platformer game I have ever seen successfully remove the feeling of frustration completely, and just leave the raw, unbridled achievement and dedication that we are all yearning for.
Please, I beg you,
Play this game.
This game is my favorite indie game by far, a very detailed story, satisfying gameplay, and amazing level design. If you want a good challenge but a great story this game is for you :celeste_strawberry:
Celeste is not only one of the best 2D platformers but also one of the best games I have ever played. Great replay value if someone wants to get all the collectibles. It has an amazing soundtrack, an inspiring story, and a great vibe overall. The levels get really difficult at the end, but overcoming them gives you a sense of euphoric victory. It feels like you actually achieved something. The soundtrack for this game is truly a masterpiece. I will play this again in the future even though I got all the achievements and played it to the point of exhaustion.
It's difficult, but not in a frustrating way, but in a fun and satisfying way. The game also lets you choose your own difficulty by what optional content you go for. And after you're done there are a lot of really good custom modded maps to play. This game and it's mods (most of all Stramberry Jam) brought me all the way from being very bad at platformers to beating grandmaster levels, with a very nice difficulty curve where every step is always just a little bit harder than the last one.
My first experience with Celeste, was 6 years ago when it became free on Epic Games Launcher. I climbed Mount Celeste, got around 30 strawberries and called it quits, as I was for then, satisfied. Little did I know...
Funny how we get attached to the struggle
I purchased Celeste on Steam, after all these years, a new me, with different ambitious. After 100%'ing the game's achievements, I can say that Celeste is one of the greatest if the greatest 2D platformer. This game will always have a spot in my heart, for the message it tells, and how well it does it.
An incredible indie platformer that, while incredibly difficult at times, feels so rewarding to play and overcome each obstacle even after 1000+ deaths. The story is incredible and the gameplay matches it amazingly.
I highly recommend everyone to climb mount Celeste with Madeline because it's one of the best indie games available.
I would recommend this game, for players that are okay with dying a bunch, and I mean A TON.
I reached over 16 thousand deaths before beating the final chapter, and that's not even that bad.
Definitely a game that requires patience, and focus.
If you're a player that loves absurdly difficult games, then it's a 10/10.
If you're more of a casual, then try the game, and see what you think.
Overall, a fantastic game, with fantastic music (props to Lena Raine, and others).
You can tell a lot has been put into this game, and the pixel art animation is incredible.
It can get frustrating at times, but in general, this game is very enjoyable :)
Would recommend.
Probably the best I've played in that genre. Even if my review comes a bit late, this game is still as excellent as it was when I first picked it up. It's a challenging and fun platformer, with a good story, interesting characters, and a banger soundtrack. On top of that, there are some insanely fun fanmade levels to check out (I'm mostly thinking of the Spring Collab and Strawberry Jam collections), so replayability is through the roof.
(Slight mechanical spoiler) Another really good point regarding the mechanics is that certain moves, like faster or higher jumps, will only be shown to you much later into the game, but are available from the start, rather than being power-ups of sorts. And when you revisit those older levels, their designs give you a huge amount of room to experiment with those new moves you've learned, to progress through levels either a little safer, or much, much faster. It makes the game's future playthroughs feel fresh as new!
Now that I've platinumed this game I can give my humble opinion
Damn good game, I've never been much into platform games so this was probably my first.
It's really worth it, if you're a more casual player there's the assistance mode to help you (I haven't tested it but apparently you can still get the achievements)
Great music, art, story... What happens on the mountain is interesting, but I don't know if it explains exactly what Celeste is and his magical thing...
Anyway, I'm going to take out my hatred and stress on this platinum: FUCKING FUCKED UP GAME, BURN IN HELL, I'LL PLAY THIS SHIT AGAIN ONLY WHEN SILKSONG COMES OUT
Buy the game, it's totally worth it HELLISH MECHANICS USED PERFECTLY TO SCREW THE PLAYER
This is my farewell
Very fun platforming. Nice visuals and good music. The final chapter Farewell is particularly good and probably one of the best finals levels of a game i've played
can confirm being trans does in fact make you better at the game, 10/10 would recommend
but if you're not trans don't worry it's still a really really really really fun game to play
Very moving story so far, and fun gameplay too!
Really cute, simple platformer with a great artstyle, tight gameplay/ control, and music that makes it a really cohesive little package (with a great deal of challenge if desired)

Celeste is my favourite platformer ever.
Few games are able to justify their difficulty to the player such as this one. You'll die a thousand times, again and again, hour after hour, but even after an unsuccesful attempt at beating a level you'll still get a tiny bit of satisfaction that keeps you craving for more. And once you do beat a level, you are going to realize that what you once though was impossible is achievable without many efforts with the required patience, perseverance and practive. To me, this is a great metaphore of how life works.
As I keep aging and engaging Real Life™ commitments I progressively get less time to play, keeping me from fully completing the game (I played for years and still have to do the C-Sides and the final part of the Farewell DLC), but I love this game so much that even a session a year is enough to fill me with joy. That's how much I appreciate it.
I could write a lengthy review about what technically makes Celeste an amazing game, from one of the best level design in any platformer, the memorable soundtrack, the masterful pixel art, to the accessibility that lets you set your own level of challenge.
But what really resonated with me is on a much deeper emotional level. I felt like the creator was speaking directly to me, from someone that felt exactly how I felt. It's a story about mental illness, about depression, and how to overcome it, or at least try. Celeste and Madeline made me feel less alone, and this pile of pixels will forever keep a place in my heart for that.
Madeline said: "I'm a trespasser in my own world". If you don't understand what she feels, I'm really glad for you. But I do. It gave me the push I needed to go back to therapy.
Best 2D platformer. Celeste is a model for difficulty curve design. Every step of the climb makes me feel stronger, giving me the confidence to spend as many deaths as needed to beat whatever level of challenge.
Madeline's journey of self-discovery is inspiring to witness and doesn't fall into over-sentimentality. Technically speaking the game is also very well designed. Completing the main story is challenging enough, but the developer added truly diabolical collectible challenges and bonus levels. I wasn't skilled enough to clear it all, but Celeste strikes a balance between charm, precision, and difficulty that compelled me to challenge myself more than other git gud games have done before. I'll also echo the appreciation other reviewers have of how the game doesn't punish you with undue lost progress or limited lives/attempts.
If you're seeking a platformer that’s as tough as it is beautiful, Celeste is your ultimate climb. But hold onto your controllers because this isn’t just a game—it’s an experience wrapped in layers of challenge, artistry.
At its core, Celeste is about Madeline’s climb up the titular mountain, facing both literal and metaphorical obstacles. It’s a game about confronting personal demons, battling self-doubt, and trying to reach the summit of one’s own mind. The story, written with care and empathy, drips with emotional weight. Each platforming level feels like an external manifestation of Madeline's internal struggles—her fears, her perseverance, her triumphs.
But let’s talk about the gameplay for a second. Celeste is hard, no question. It’s like it lures you in with the promise of smooth, satisfying movement and then smacks you in the face with a devious gauntlet of spikes, lasers, and gravity-defying platforms. It demands precision, but it rewards you with one of the most satisfying feeling of mastery in gaming. You get those moments of “I DID IT!” where everything clicks, and you realize you've just cleared a death trap in a flurry of jumps, dashes, and heart-pounding focus.
The music? The soundtrack is chef's kiss perfect for the vibe of the game—electronic beats with a touch of dreaminess that sync perfectly with the highs and lows of Madeline’s journey. It feels like the emotional resonance of the game was crafted right into the tracks. Every beat is a shot of adrenaline that lets you power through tough sections, only to slow down and reflect during the quieter moments.
And that difficulty? It's tough—but fair. The precision is part of the magic. Every time you fail (and you will fail), it's because you could've done better. The level design, with its hidden secrets and finely tuned progression, makes even the toughest sections feel rewarding. It's like the game takes your frustrations and smears a little bit of that mega glaze on it to make you appreciate the challenge.
As you move through the game, you’ll unlock more than just stages—you’ll unlock self-reflection. Madeline’s struggle with her inner demons is mirrored in the way Celeste challenges you: If you’re patient enough, you'll find that the rewards are more than just the satisfaction of clearing a stage—they’re about conquering parts of yourself that you didn’t know were holding you back.
Visually, the game looks like it could be a bedtime story come to life—pixelated charm that pops with color. The art is both minimalistic and gorgeously detailed, evoking nostalgia for the old-school platformers we loved while still feeling fresh and modern.
So, yeah. Celeste isn’t just a game. It’s an emotional, rollercoaster of triumph, failure, and self-discovery. It’s challenging, it’s heartbreaking, it’s glorious—and it's all wrapped in nostalgia and finesse that makes it impossible to put down.
i want to like it but it's too difficult for my skill issue, the art style and music is good and i can see why people enjoy this game, but i just can't recommend it for anyone to just casually play.
Had this game sitting in my library for a while, honestly im such a wuss when it comes to games like these. I was even more terrified to play this game knowing the chase scenes but this game is hella fun. Im addicted as hell to it, great game, helped me get rid of my fear of chase scenes and replaced it with rage.
No veas tus muertes como las veces que fallastes, porque en realidad son las veces de las que no te rendiste
this like "getting over it" but
1. its doesn't make you rip your hair out
2. doesn't make you wanna suddenly combust
3. looks amazing
4. is really fun
5. you get to overcome your depression instead of getting depressed.
6. and is actually remediable
you should buy :)
Well... While I'd definitely recommend it. After 10 hours I've not yet been able to conclude the story, perhaps because I've died over 2100 times now, and am still mid-way through Chapter 7. So, I do recommend a great deal of patience if you plan to play this game.
This game is really fun to play and the story is very fun.
Everything is fire. The music, the story, the art, and of course, the gameplay. Def recommend would play again
I thought I wouldn't like it but I was surprised with how fun the movement system is and also how forgiving it is although it is pretty hard. Would recommend to any platform enjoyers!
Very good platformer with a nice story. Has a crazy amount of collectibles and extra stuff to do once you beat the main chunk of the game. Soundtrack is great and a joy to listen to while playing the game. Would absolutely recommend this game to anyone who wants a challenging platformer to sink their teeth into.
This game definitely goes into my all-time favorites. It's one of the best soundtracks with awesome storytelling. It took me more than a year to complete this game. As Madeline was struggling with her feelings, you struggled with challenging platforming. The way they have introduced different gameplay mechanics, other games should need to learn from this. Madeline and Badeline, are awesome characters that you can relate to throughout the game. I can talk all day about their struggles and how they relate to us. They have portrayed it with different soundtracks depending on Madeline's internal struggles. It's perfection. I won't spoil any story as you should experience it yourself.
My boyfriend recommended this game to me.
My go-to explanation for this is "It's a difficult platformer about climbing a mountain. It's also an allegory for depression." I love this game. A simple story about depression and anxiety, and overcoming that. But GOD does it anger me sometimes. I shoulda listened when they said it'd be difficult.
Celeste is a cool game, that I enjoy sometimes, but if you play this game past 7-A keep in mind from that point on, you will only be losing. You will lose everything that made you human, no amount of money could refund the light back into my eyes. If you’re thinking about playing this game, at all, close your eyes immediately after chapter 7, turn off your computer, and run. I could not recommend this game to any of my friends because I fear they will suffer even a fraction of the suffering I have, and I would hate to be responsible for that. 7/10
Simple controls combined with amazing level design combines to make a truly great experience filled with pain, difficulty, and so much fun.
Dude i love this game so fucking much the characters are so good the gameplay is superb the characters are amazing the pixel art is so stylish the characters are fucking incredible
This is now my favorite game. Great story, great music, and great game. BUY CELESTE!!!!!!!!
Amazing music, platforming and especially community. A must play for anyone, made easy by a rich accessibility menu.
Celeste is good game and stuff so I pretty much like the games art, fell, game play, and other stuff. I would totally recommend this game to people who are chill with rage game (like me) so I think its best that you try it yourself and I dunno, rage at it?
What a gem of a game. Indie games like this-, actually there is no indie game like this. Celeste is a extremely challenging joyful struggle that I wish I could experience for the first time again. No AAA title I've ever played could come even close the the mechanical genius of Celeste. The characters and story is also quite entertaining and the feeling I had when I eventually conquered this game was indescribable. An insanely rare 10/10.
A very tight and fun precision platformer, quite enjoyable, has secret levels called B-side and even C-side, which adds a lot of additional unique content after you've finished the game, not to mention the absurd amount of strawberries as collectables. The gameplay also keeps evolving and adding more features you have to consider the further you go, which was a nice touch, as it does not stay samey for and every level adds some variety, a new mechanic that you have to make use of to procceed.
The game also has some accessibility options for people that aren't very good at platformers in turn of disabling achievements, but its there. It was nominated best game of the year on the VGA 2018, and it shows.
Some say the dialogue is a bit corny and cringe, but i quite enjoyed it.
It's the story of a girl trying to surpass her inner demons and inner conflicts by attempting to climb the Celeste Mountain. for a sense of self-fulfillment
i give it a 8/10. Great!
If you enjoy platformers, buy it. You won't regret it.
Really nice gameplay. It is built around 2 moves, dashing and wall climbing and somehow the devs managed to stretch it to its max potential.
Amazing music. Seriously, the soundtrack in this game is insanely good. Congrats to Lena Raine for achieving this, no wonder she got hired to make music for Minecraft.
Lovely story. I am not gonna spoil it, but the story is revolving around anxiety and as someone who had this problem before, I can say it does a great job at portraying how it feels, how most of us try to get rid of it and how some of us manage to solve the problem that anxiety give us. In fact. Anxiety is not an emotion which you can simply get rid of. It will always be there. The cure to it is not courage, but curiosity, it's not an enemy, it's a twisted defense mechanism or an overcautious friend rather than a terrifying force. If you are an anxious person this game will 100% resonate with you and may even help you
This is the best game i've ever played and the music is so peak please buy it i love this game so much PLEASE. best 20 dollars i've ever spent
Came for the trans memes stayed for the amazing gameplay, levels and story
I first beat this game in the winter of 2019, unaware of how much the world was going to change in a few short months. Coming from a background of playing competitive super smash bros, this game hooked me with its mechanics instantly. The platforming was so smooth and expressive, there was always a unique way to beat various levels. With the addition of some of the best video game soundtracks of all time, the thrill from completing a level was unmatched by any game I had ever played. The love put into the game can be felt in every second you play it. My favorite part of the game was definitely the story.
SPOILERS AHEAD
The themes of not giving up on yourself and embracing the anxiety inside you in order to grow from it is reflected so well in the struggle between the characters of Madeline and Badeline. Fighting against your negativity and ignoring it only for it to lash out and cause more problems highlights a common result of the desire to simply rid ourselves of the darker aspects in our lives. But we can prevent that by acknowledging our faults and learning to own it and do better. Once Madeline realizes her mistakes and welcomes Badeline back into her life, we are rewarded with a second dash that enables us to perform more difficult maneuvers. With other relatable characters in Theo and Granny who show various forms of encouragement and support, the journey to climb Mt. Celeste had a very meaningful impact on my life. Back then I was affected by a multitude of negative thoughts and pressures. This game helped me process everything and come out of the battle stronger. I knew that I had to keep my head up and stop taking the people around me for granted. I can confidently say this game helped me through the struggles I faced at the time.
SPOILERS DONE
The extra levels in this game include another layer of complexity and difficulty that while enjoyable, can be extremely frustrating. But the game is just so good at encouraging you and convincing you to keep climbing. The remixes that play during these levels do a big part in stopping you from quitting and can even be motivating at times. I managed to complete all the B-side levels and half of the C-side levels before putting the game down. I was disappointed that I was not going to attempt the Farewell level, but satisfied with the things I had accomplished with the game. Fast forward to today and once again I am struggling with some negative aspects of my life. It has inspired me to climb this mountain once more. I have missed the world of Celeste and the charming characters who have been waiting for my return. I am proud to say I have beaten the level I was last stuck on and will be attempting to beat the C-side levels and Farewell in order to help Madeline with her last chapter of closure. This game is probably gonna make me cry again if I ever beat Farewell; the main story was already so good. Wish me luck as I embrace the endless cycle of falling and learning while beating my demons in the real world. I'll see y'all at the top.
