For the price it is more that good. Its a great casual game.
This is actually not a bad little crawler. :) Tons of classes, albeit character development is limited (just gain stats & abilities automatically upon level-up). Most of the content is very boilerplate, but there is a kind of nice rune socketing system for equipment. Another cool feature is on-demand class switching. You retain your abilities cross-class a la FFT or similar, which allows for some fun builds! Controller support is always a plus in my book as well.
It's true that it's a bit buggy, crappy performance, and appears abandoned by the dev, but it's still playable and fun in its current state. It would be much more successful as a mobile game, though. I even see the system reqs mention iOS/Android version compatability, but I don't see it in the App Store. I imagine it may have been broken by iOS 11 and delisted at that point (unfortunately that update destroyed a ton of good, but no longer supported apps).
Anyway, I wanted to leave a thumbs up since it seems like this little guy got review bombed, somewhat unfairly to my mind. If you enjoy DRPGs at all, why not give it a shot for $1??
It was an appealing game at first glance; I'll spare you a list of pros and cons, because others have already touched on it, and far more eloquently than I could. All I'll say is that I've run into the same stuttering and memory leak problems; a game this simple shouldn't be soaking up 60% of my computer's physical memory after half an hour of playing, and load times shouldn't exceed 30 seconds. Devs don't communicate, which is always a bad sign in my book. I played for an hour and a half, and now I'm asking for a refund, because it just isn't what it could/should be.
No issues here. I think this game might have got a bad rep because people didn't know it was rpgmaker.
It's a nicely done dungeon crawler in my opinion so far. I haven't encountered stuttering anywhere near what other people have..i play on fullscreen with autodash off on an old rig. Game runs fairly smootly, grind and loot is decent.
I'd say pick it up since it is on sale atm. At full price it is asking a bit much for rpgmaker game but I'm quite enjoying it.
Scratching the dungeon grind itch that many games have failed to do. Game provides a challenge if you try to progress too early.
12 classes to choose from, you pick your first start off with rnough money to recruit one more As you progress (at your time of choosing), you can recruit more for an increasingly steep price up to a maximum of 5 in the party total. I like the freedom in this. There are front row/back row mechanics to keep squishy classes form dying too easily and the skills seem decent and balanced so far.
Edit: Only real gripe is multiclassing. It seems heavily encouraged as the game will keep track of how many levels each character has in any class and it can be changed at any time however...
There is only one sprite per class (some classes are males and others are females) so your level 10 fighter "Dave" that multiclasses into an archer is suddenly a woman.
I currently have 4 in my party now and I have no desire to multiclass with this system. If I do another playthrough I will try other classes then. At level 11 my fighter has several active abilities he can use, and i feel no need to "add" to him.
Current verdict on this: Game would have been better without multiclassing imo.
I got this game for just over $2. Zero regrets.
Extremely dissapointing. The repetition is only broken up by the occasional spike in difficulty, which once adapted to, leaves you slogging through more endless repetition before it happens again. This is a game I very much wanted to like, based on premise. It might, in fact, get better the more you get into it. I wouldn't know, as uninspired design and shoddy execution turned me off well before I could progress far enough to tell.
Its simple. Dont get this game for NOW. Despite loving it, the devs just "fire & forget" the game.
Unforgivable.
Positives:
So many classes;
You can reclass your vets for more skills/spells;
Every rarity of gear is a true upgrade from its earlier level;
Hybrids are great;
Minor negatives:
Lack of good skill balance/creativity;
Some floors are just infinite loops, ive stopped mapping the dungeons the moment i saw the common pattern.
Major negatives:
Memory Leaks, get ready to reboot every now and then;
Game doesnt like anything on background, wanna watch something while grind? Too bad, just hope your game doesnt ctd/stop responding on your face.
Devs replied, i'll hold to it till said updates.
The developer abandoned the game as soon as it released. Huge issues like memory leak at release with no fix in sight. DO NOT BUY!
I can't get the boxes to appear over the words in the menus in windows 10. Maybe it works better on other systems or the iphone or something similar.
I tried working around the user interface problems for a while, but I think I would wait a few updates if you are running windows.
I will give it another try in a few months, but I can't recomend it now.
I love this game.It bring me back to the old school games.The many diffrent classes and, the rune system is everything.Great job guys
Oh boy......what can I write here that hasn't already been said in the aforementioned review (very thorough!!).
In my shallow, very self-centered opinion, the game is god awful.
I had high hopes of partaking in a Diablo or Torchlight-esque dungeon crawl, my heart even skipped a beat when I saw there was a total of 12, TWELVE classes!! And fifteen levels of dungeon crawling goodness to well, crawl through.
However, I cannot accurately describe the feelings that took grip of me once the "action" started.
Sprites bobbing up and down like paper cut outs?
Reused class sprites as village NPCs?
No gratuitous nudity? I jest with that one.....the archer's booty shorts were pleasant........
Then I get down to the dungeon. For some reason the frame rate drops to an all time low of 1 frame rate...........and for what? The only excuse I can think of is it had something to do with the dungeon randomising? I'm no computer genius, in fact I'd have to say I'm at least partially handicapped, but something doesn't make sense about such a low frame rate and such......middling graphics.

Hope this helps someone make an informed decision......unlike the decision I made when purchasing the game.
I did ask for a refund btw.
Depths of Dread, is a single player dungeon crawler, with turn based battles and random encounters.
You choose your class from a choice of 12 (a heathy balance of spell casters, support, melee tanks and hybrid classes.) You can recruit up to a party of 5 (building a party completely of your choosing), using gold acquired from killing monsters in a 15 floor dungeon.
Below is a brief game review, and the pros and cons of why it may, or may not appeal to you.
Story:
There isn’t one, typical dungeon crawler.
Here are the keys to my dungeon, level up, kill monsters, save the day.
Graphics:
Minimal. Copy and paste images with no imagination, the graphics closely resemble the story.
The scenery and backgrounds are not interesting, no atmosphere, and nothing to get excited about here.
Sound: I didn’t have any problem with the sound, or music. No doubt it will get repetitive and grind on you after a while, but you can say the same for any game with minimal variation of tunes.
Gameplay: It does the job, half the job. It has almost everything I would want from building a party. If you enjoy the grind, party building and the occasional challenging encounter then this would have been so close to what you were looking for. But the game constantly stutters on the random encounter screens and takes too long to load for just the reshuffle of the same screens.
Longevity: It’s hard to say a life span isn’t there.
There are plenty of class combinations to try out, a lot of different gear and socketing combos to try, and of course each dungeon room changes every time you enter / re-enter it. But will you still be playing this after 20 hours of gameplay, probably not. I’d be surprised if many players amounted to over 10 hours of play.
Pros
- Create your own party.
- Can change class of any character to fit circumstance at no cost.
- Socketing, adding reusable gems to gear is great
- Lots of equipment, common, epic and even legendary, spot on here.
- 12 different classes, lots of combo's to play with
- The dungeon is constantly changing, not the layout but with different traps or treasures or merchants will appear or disappear, every time you enter/ leave a room.
- Simple to navigate, I found the party / equipment screens very easy to use.
- Bulletin board is a nice touch, quests for rewards.
- Honest game tittle
- Classes familiar to the genre
- If you can persevere, the battles become really fun, much later in the game
Cons
- Loading between screens, that inevitably just all look the same only reshuffled, takes the flow out of the game, and is something that should be seamless. As it stands, you spend more time waiting between screens loading than you do on the dungeon screens themselves.
- It’s a dungeon crawler, so you spend a lot of time in a dungeon with random encounters. Sadly this is ruined by constantly skipping, which again takes any real flow out of the game and frustratingly hinders progression.
- Plenty of glitches and bugs.
- Repetitive battles for the first 1/8 floors.
- May have benefitted from a talent system for your party members, just something to feel like you have some kind of input into their growth as they level.
- The dungeon levels changing every time you change screen, some may consider it to be a pro, but not for me. Enter/exit room, until treasure shows, not a productive use of time. For me, open a treasure once, then the box should be empty, unless you reset the instance or something or exit the dungeon entirely perhaps. (This particular con would be a matter of opinion, I feel)
- The sprites don’t move, the copied images just float about, bobbing up and down.
- No map / no minimap
- Bulletin board, quest objections often don’t work first time
- Very few boss battles.
Summery
You can’t help but feel slightly wronged or ripped off by this game. On paper it truly ticks a lot of boxes, 12 classes, plenty of gear and gem customisation, managing your gold to fill that last party slot and a changing dungeon. But a little extra care would have gone a long, long way.
One little patch to make the player feel like they can play through the dungeon without the game constantly stuttering, would make the world of difference. As it stands, I can’t recommend this game, sorry. There is so much potential here, but it’s completely squandered by things that could be so easily remedied. If they update it quickly, fix a few simple things then it has the potential to become an enjoyable game, and maybe a recommendation.
My final verdict is that here is another game added to the steam vault that lacks soul and any credibility or creativity, and once again seems completely rushed at the prospect of a quick sell. It’s quite simply not worth you're time.
If you’re looking for a new dungeon crawler, look away, look far away, for now. If they update the game I will be sure to update my review, and if it runs seemlessly then it could change my opinion.
Currenlty it seems that half a job was done, and perhaps they never tested the game. I cant recommened something that at present feels rushed over the finish line, tarnishing the end product and making it unworthy of being sellable goods. Not acceptable.
