To restore balance and reclaim the land from the brink, you will be faced with questions that not even a God knows the answer to.Scale Massive Beasts
Overcome impossible odds to climb atop and defeat the massive beasts that are bound to this land.
Climb, Glide, Swim
You can climb on virtually anything you can get your hands on, from ruins and mountains to the massive beasts that inhabit the land. Ascend to the tops of mountains and then glide over the open world to reach previously inaccessible locations. Swim in frigid water to uncover hidden locations that contain secrets and treasure, but don't stay in too long or your swim could become your last.
Explore, Craft, and Survive
You'll arrive on a frozen island with only the clothes on your back -- it's up to you to survive. Make fires, hunt for food, and find the equipment you need to make it through an eternal winter. Nature isn't the only danger, so craft weapons, defeat minions for better gear, and venture into long forgotten caves to discover their secrets. Triumphing over these trials will prepare you for the impossible odds that wait.
Make Your Path
Praey for the Gods is a non-linear game where you choose who you battle and how. While destiny will give you a nudge, virtually all the large beasts can be attempted in any order allowing you to set the course.
Unravel the Mystery
Why won't the winter stop? Why has no one returned? Cryptic paintings left behind allude to a story once thought forgotten. To restore balance and reclaim the land, you will be faced with questions that not even the gods know the answer to.
A Beautifully Frigid World
Explore a landscape of unending winter framed by snow-capped peaks and crawling fog. The remnants of an ancient civilization lie before you, but don't let awe turn into carelessness -- snow storms can crop up at any moment and bury you in a blizzard. Luckily, you can leave footprints in the snow and follow your footsteps back if you are lost.
About the Development Team
Praey for the Gods is being created by No Matter Studios a tiny studio of 3. Brian Parnell, Tim Wiese (glasses) and Hung-Chien Liao. In 2014, the friends began working after-hours on their first game. By January 2016, they had enough confidence in their progress to leave game-studio jobs in San Francisco and move to Seattle. Working in Parnell’s basement, they pursued an all-or-nothing dream to make the game of their dreams.

love the design of main char
bossfights are tedious with the tossing and stamina regeneration
if in story mode health does not regenerate as fast as assumed and staminabar is still low and runs out
the movement lagg is bad and that is even WITH keyboard ---- controller is bad too but (my own fault mine is messed up)
the frost is annoying in story mode since it doesnt really have an effect like freezing in different modes
i feel stupid sometimes not catching on to the mechanics in the game but its overall okey - ish
its a good thing this game was free i would have been so mad if i payed money for this game
I came across Praey for the Gods a long long time ago and kept it in the back of my mind ever since. I played Shadow of the Colossus and, like most people, absolutely adored that game. Praey seemed like it would scratch that giant-boss-scaling itch, and once I finally got my hands on it after release, I was proven right.
The game is pretty short. I beat it in 10 hours but you could easily do it quicker. I would have liked there to be a few more bosses, but only because the design of the bosses and the fights themselves were creative and fun. Each boss (or ‘God’) had their own unique way of being taken down and they were fun puzzles to try and solve. The Thrall and Dreki Gods in particular stand out.
Praey for the Gods has survival elements for you to tackle while you traverse the world. You must manage your hunger, rest, and warmth meters while navigating a brutal landscape fraught with blizzards and enemies that mostly feel like pushovers…except for the Champions. You’ll know when you find one.
You can gather resources, upgrade armor, repair weaponry, and discover lore notes, map fragments, and other secrets while you try to get from boss to boss. You can also choose just how unforgiving you want the environment to be before starting your game, and that was something I appreciated going in.
I actually quite enjoyed the survival elements. It goes a long way to supplement the game’s length in my opinion. It’s not revolutionary by any means, but it contributes to the experience and the eerie environment. This is a harsh, hostile land that you’ve been dropped into. Having to keep yourself alive and well-equipped as you trek towards that glowing beacon in the sky built anticipation for the upcoming fights.
The story is bare bones but it fits the game well. You are given enough information to be able to craft your own interpretation (I promise you, there is no way in hell you can predict the ending). The game does a great job of leaving you constantly on edge. The sound design plays a big part in this. It’s a creepy, empty, bleak setting and the scraps of lore left behind by those that came before you only drive that home more.
Overall, Praey for the Gods is a great game that I highly recommend. There are a few critiques that I have (janky controls at times, clunky menu system, slightly underwhelming number of bosses), but this game is overflowing with positives. I was immediately pulled in by the setting and world building as well as the promise for some kickass boss fights. I will absolutely be coming back to this game in the future. When one of my biggest critiques is that I wish there was more game to play, you know the developers have done a great job.
8.5/10
So I got this in early access and was stoked to see the final product once they fixed the rough edges and made a more complete game and was very disappointed by the final product. Like a lot of energy seems to have been put towards chasing the breath of the wild flavor instead of what the original draw was.
While I like what they were going for, I don't believe it was executed well.
Basically what if BOTW and Shadow of Colossus mixed together. For the most part, I see what they were trying to do.
Pros: Great Graphics
Tight Control very responsive.
Music was good when it played
Menu system is well designed
Able to change difficult on a whim
Cons: They took some game play aspects from SOC but not all of them here are some things that I wish was adapted:
Boss meters: Would have been nice to see a boss meter to see actual progress.
The camera gets really dumb at times that can easily get you killed, it feels like you're playing tug of war with it when you fight the later bosses.
The hit boxes are sometimes hit or miss when climbing stuff.
Bosses go loop dee loops a bit too much and tends to make the fight drag on longer than it should - this could cause someone to get motion sickness, it happens that much (SOC had a couple fights like that but no where nearly as bad).
Finale wasn't tough but it was a major slog
Ending was "HUH?" and disappointing.
No hint system - would have been nice to give a nudge.
Other Cons: Wish there was a map marking system, the world isn't HUGE but it's open world enough that would be nice to have the feature.
If they address these concerns, especially if they make a sequel, this can be a fantastic game. I'll give them props what they tried to do though.
4/10
if you enjoy "Shadow of the Colossus" you'll enjoy this game. it is highly inspired by it without a doubt. the pacing is really nice, the game itself is very unique in its own way. i myself highly enjoy the game so far. it is a little shorter than shadow of the colossus, but its still a very fun game IMO. all in all. 10/10.
wow cool
It's a nice little game. Sometimes the controls are a bit jank, but nothing too bad. it focuses on the bossfights and they are done well.
I don't think it's worth the full price though, with my 12 hours playtime till the end on hard difficulty it's rather short and has little replayability. Get it on a discount and enjoy
like a knock off shadow of colossus. it has some changes which arent that bad, and the game is still enjoyable. just mediocre and short with a higher price then it should considering that. crafting though is just unnecessary in the game and it leaves me just having less fun when it crops up. its still fun mind you and i still recommend the game.
Boss fights are almost all really fun, with only one sticking out as.... well it just kinda walks around and occasionally swings its arms. Some of them feel extremely epic.
Running around could be faster, acquiring materials could be easier... but also aren't required. Most boss fights if you're really trying to finish them without getting hit, you can do it. I finished on Legendary and Survival, and while I had I think 3 crashes that were mildly annoying, the game saves somewhat often, so I never lost too much progress.
I've seen a lot of reviews about combat being janky and such, but unless I'm incredibly lucky, those are outdated. I'm stoked to see they fixed so much while this was in early access, with my only complaint being the miniboss guys are.... real dumb. Probably a quick fix to prevent them from stunlocking you to death, but it's pretty funny when I get knocked down, the guy brings his weapon back to finish me off, and then he whiffs 5 feet off to the side of me. Maybe he has bad eyesight. :)
Exclusive experience.
Routes and accessibility of bosses are way too easy to find. Lenght of the game comes from boss mechanics not from exploration. I've acquired heavy outfit in likely before the last boss. It doesn't give the feeling of survive and explore sadly...
Difficulty cap based on consumption of stat bars which is kinda sucks. And bosses are shaking you bit much more. Game itself is not that hard. Survival design is pretty primitive, or should I say 10 years behind where we are today when you considered "the market".
Enjoyable game, decent play and environmental design (controls make you crazy sometimes), formidable try whilst there is none of its kind.
Just wanted to list adverse points since every other review are telling you the bright sides of it. Recommended - Solid 7/10
This game is fun a bit repetitive at times if it´s on sale i recommend getting it
As someone who didn't get to play Shadow of the Colossus
but love the idea of fighting giant monsters up and close,
I loved the game!
The difficulty is customizable,
art style is good,
fights are challenging and rewarding,
world is immersive,
RPG elements are just right - enough to keep you engaged, but not requiring too much grind or management.
I'm enjoying it!
Kudos to the devs!
It seemed so promising, but...meh!
This game was really good. I had a lot of fun playing it. However, it need's a final coat of paint. There are a lot of details that are missing, especially from the cut scenes and animation. The foundation is all there, it just needs that extra finish.
The main thing I love about this game is the freedom it gives to perform stunts. One moment in particular stood out to me: During the winged boss fight, I was holding onto the tip of the left wing and I was running out of stamina. I needed to get to it's other wing to finish the fight, but the boss started making a right turn. I could have taken the safe route by climbing down the wing, but instead, I let go of the wing and slid down to the other side. Sliding down the wing of a giant flying creature, a thousand miles in the air, with wind rushing past me felt so epic. The moments like that made this game exciting and satisfying to play.
I have mixed feelings about the survival aspect of the game. Parts of it were fun, but other parts were tedious. It would be interesting to see it integrated into the boss fights more. Like maybe having a fight lasting so long that you need to camp out on the bosses back, or in a cliff-side cave while a giant creature stomps around outside.
The story didn't feel compelling enough. It took away from the cinematic nature of the game. The main character was unexpressive and I couldn't figure out why she was pursuing her goals. That was probably the weakest point of the game. It's tempting as a writer to make stories intentionally vague because it makes it come across more poetic. However, if nobody knows what's going on, then it's very difficult to empathize with the characters. This completely wipes out any chance for a deep emotional response from the player. For a game who's main selling point is epic and jaw dropping scale, a vague story only takes away from that WOW feeling.
The extra polish for the cut scenes would help emphasize that WOW feeling, but the story needs to be more emotionally engaging as well. That being said, I had a lot of fun playing this game and I would love to see more.
TL:DR: 7/10 - Frustrating frozen fun found from first fight forward until finish.
For those still reading. This game is basically Shadow of The Colossus in the deep Nordth, on a mission to save the world from a never ending winter. The game is much smaller than SotC and swaps mounted travel, for a grappling hook and glider. On Legendary/Survival difficulty I did not feel like I could really take in and appreciate the world as much. I was on a mad dash to make it from one boss to the next -stopping of course to kill champions and strip the landscape bare to the extent i was able to- all while constantly freezing to death.
There are spitting worms, frozen, undead warriors, banshees, champions (mini boss), boars and bunnies a plenty to slice, club, and shoot for loot. The precious loot you'll need to craft and upgrade so you can better survive the harsh, unforgiving landscape. Survival mechanics on top added an immersive layer of difficulty that was coupled by some frustrating limitations (I'm looking at you cooking) Berries and scavenged bread made up the majority of my diet, as cooking meat and mushrooms requires campsites that are scattered throughout the landscape, you're not able to craft cooking implementations all by your lonesome... which I have issues with. It created an undo stress and prevented me from being able to get better benefits from food I needed, all because I, the survivalist, couldn't make a spit out of all the wood around me.
The combat with minions is clunky/floaty and could be improved on. The presence of a lock-on does help with melee combat, but distance and gap closure is iffy. You're best to get right up on your enemy before spamming melee. There is no block or parry so dodging is your best friend. Melee and Archery don't take any stamina, but running, climbing, gliding, and dodging do. Stamina management is KEY to survival, so I put all my totem upgrades into stamina and relied on dodging to not get hit.
While trying not to die of frost and hunger, you'll notice the landscape is beautiful. Ancient ruins and abandoned camps pepper the environment. Trees sway in the wind, and the sudden and powerful storms impact your vision and ability to traverse the terrain. Your character leaves deep trenches in the snow as the struggle through. This eerie, haunting landscape still has a peaceful beauty. Some areas hint at a forgotten history frozen in time. The area surrounding boss 4 in particular is one of my personal favorites, the atmosphere is great and really shows the love and effort put into the visuals. Each boss fight is unique and usually involves activating a mechanism to stun the boss, or help you to reach them in some way. Each boss is a puzzle of both, how do I get on it, and what do I do once I'm up there. The feeling you get from scaling these titans is on point with this game.
Praey for the Gods wears it's inspiration proudly and I salute NO MATTER STUDIOS. I hope they make more games in this vein, as the set piece moments are wonderful and really gave me that SotC feeling I loved so much. While the story -and ending especially- leave a lot of questions, I came to the game to climb and fell titans, and that's what I really enjoyed. Great job and I hope to play another!
Its equivelent to a college students capstone project. Clunky mechanics, tedious and uninteresting boss fights, I got through half the game within an hour and a half. Its bad
Praey for the Gods offers a captivating survival experience set in a frostbitten world. You play as a lone hero exploring a desolate land plagued by massive, enigmatic giants. The game excels in creating a hauntingly beautiful atmosphere with its striking landscapes and towering foes.
The core gameplay revolves around climbing, battling colossal creatures, and managing your survival needs in a harsh environment. The climbing mechanics are engaging, though they can be a bit finicky at times. The giants you face are imposing and require strategic thinking to overcome, adding depth and challenge to the combat.
However, while the game shines in its visuals and ambitious scope, it does have some rough edges. The controls and camera angles can sometimes feel awkward, which might detract from the experience. Additionally, the narrative could be more fleshed out, as the story feels secondary to the exploration and combat.
Despite these flaws, Praey for the Gods offers a unique and immersive journey. If you enjoy survival games with a focus on epic battles and exploration, it’s worth diving into.
If you thought, "I wanna play Breath of the Wild, but in the world of God of War" then this is the game for you. A little rough around the edges but nonetheless, a very enjoyable game!
