A detailed, and spellbinding, story is woven through the very fabric of Barrow Hill, offering possible explanations, further mysteries and a chance to get beneath the surface of archaeology like no other game before it.
Dig deeper: Use real archaeological techniques, and practice, to unearth forgotten artefacts and delve into the Celtic legends which haunt the green lanes of the hill. Cornwall boasts itself as the home of many sorcerers, ancient kings and mythological characters. From the piskie folk of the hedgerows and clifftops to the beasts of Bodmin Moor. Not great at this kind of game, but persevering I have found this quite sneaky and satisfying, and certainly atmospheric. Pernicketiness is rewarded in the control method lol
I bought Barrow Hill out of nostalgia having originally played it in the mid 2000s. However, revisiting it reminded me of all the frustrating things about the game that I'd somehow repressed. First, the game can be incredibly glitchy at times with movement arrows not appearing or having to severely offset the cursor to perform an action. And speaking of movement, it's very counter-intuitive at times. Other games that require you to click at the screen edges aren't nearly so finicky. Also, while I don't need to be hand held in a game, there definitely needs to be some kind of direction which other point-and-click adventures do a better job at handling while still leaving it up to you to explore and puzzle solve. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this game to a new player and would caution any nostalgic replayers to take the rose-colored glasses off and think if this game is really worth the hassle. And if you do decide to purchase it and give it a go, just be aware that this game is tedious and frustrating, even by mid 2000s point-and-click standards.
I played this game back when I had the CD-ROM in the early 2000s. Still holds up as my favorite October game. Its quick, spooky, and weird but good weird.

Very much interesting and enjoyable Adventure\quest game with its own atmosphere. Quiet formidable choice for those who is looking for something apprehensive and thrilling.
A "Rock-Solid" point-&-click horror/mystery game. Take some notes as you play and the game shouldn't be too difficult to complete.
An excellent point & click horror detective game for true puzzle fans. I play it every few years when the puzzles fade from memory, and it's enjoyable every time. The game does not hold your hand, and the world - with numerous, diverse, and interconnected locations dripping with atmosphere - can be explored openly, collecting clues to various puzzles along the way. Settle in with pen and paper for taking notes (and a phone for taking photos), and understand that you will wander around aimlessly for some time before things start falling into place. It's perfectly solvable without a guide, but the scope and complexity of the world, and the non-linear nature of gameplay, will often leave you feeling lost as to what to do next.
