Laraan is experienced best when using a controller. A Windows or Xbox game pad is ideal.
Laraan is a Science-Fiction game about exploration in a desolate world. Created with a minimalist low poly style. Accompanied by a splendid movie soundtrack.
You’re about to enter an old world of computer entertainment. Laraan bridges the gap between Cinema and Action/Adventure games with a completely old style of fluid, cinematic storytelling. Laraan is experienced best when using a controller, a Windows or Xbox game pad is ideal.
Using a completely old graphic system of cinematic zooms, pans, close-ups, and cuts, Laraan gets you involved in a breathtaking story of inter-dimensional travel.
You’ll duck as lasers saber, boulder crash, and monsters roar. The complete musical score and realistic, digitized sound effects will make you feel like you’re on a movie sound stage.

This game is truly great, it's a smart premisse executed in a smart way, it's a survival crafting game that beautifully achieves entertaining the player with almost 0 conflict.
I would say if you want combat and hardship this is not a game for you, but if you want to peacefully travel between planets alone and enjoy the OST, then it's a surprisingly good game.
Incredible lowpoly graphics and music! I love this game,,, It has something... special & unforgetable!
I recomend it 100 %!
I could do it better...and that*s no megalomaniac kiddo kind of conclusion.
I mean, even a duck could to it better. Disappointing, even for an indie game.
I am enjoying this game but can totally see why it has received a "Mixed" reception.
The gameplay of Laraan is very simple platforming, consisting mostly of running ahead and jumping between cliffsides while avoiding falling to your "death" (you are just warped back to a checkpoint) or running into various traps (ceilings that collapse and kill you, or blades that spring from walls...) the game's graphical style is all very abstract and minimalistic, which is part of the reason I was drawn to it. Laraan frames itself with a somewhat religious storyline at its opening, but it doesn't beat you over the head with that kind of content throughout the game itself.
Laraan looks pretty good in motion and your character's main running animation is well-done, which you will see most often. The jump is also pretty well-animated but it does begin to look a bit strange seeing it repeated over and over. The same sound effect loops every time you use the jump, which you will be doing often, regarldess of whether you land early or not, you'll hear the same repetitive "whoooooosh!" to completion every time you jump. The music you hear throughout the levels are well done, however... and you see different environments often.
This game's biggest problems include the camera bugging the fuck out at times, warping super close to your character before dislodging from whatever terrain it's become stuck on temporarily (an example of how close the camera can suddenly jump, from the more pulled-back view is here: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1123476606) and worse the game seeming to annoyingly (and almost game-breakingly in some ways...) gravitate you toward certain paths or anchor points as you're running or jumping.
Let's say (hypothetically of course, not that I've been dying and restarting this same section over and over in the game partly due to its lame graivty-pulling during the platforming..) you are running down an area which has two parallels paths you can take, the path on the right has ceilings that drop and crush you that you have to time to run by or roll under, and on your left are various cliffs and blades that pop out from the wall that might hit you as you're jumping. You may have your character lined up to jump forward, thinking to yourself to thread the gap between the blades on your left or land before running into the collapsing ceiling on your right, giving yourself a second to time when to move forward and risk being crushed, but then game will "pull" you toward a different spot as you're mid-sprint, or mid-jump in the air. It's not severe, but in certain sections (such as this 2 hallway section) it throws your character off just enough to fuck up your planned route and have you for instance drift into the blades because your character is too busy being pulled toward a spot other than where you had intended. I've seen other games do this as well, and to try to rationalize it I think it's just a way that mostly "straight-ahead" sequences can kind of funnel the player along the intended path to complete the level, but it's a crappy thing to encounter in other games and seeing it in Laraan is no different.
If I didn't enjoy this game's art style as much as I do, I would be less likely to recommend it for that reason. The platforming (when you aren't being affected by severe anchor points/player-funneling) can be immersive and fun. The game also strikes an interesting tone between shifting environments from feeling relaxing and open to close and menacing, which reflect its story of the afterlife well.
Laraan is an interesting game with a cool concept and I love its minimalist visual style, but its technical faults can become bothersome.
PS the speeder bike segment was pretty horrible.
You obviously don't know how to implement movement and camera angle rotation.
Next time copy and paste all the code, not only half, and also copy the right code.
however, great job, the game is very frustrating.
In love and friendship, your dear Ass.hole.
Quite a short, weird, abstract walking simulator.
Great soundtrack and a strange world. Oddly beautiful.
However I cannot recommend this game at all due to it's terrible controls, movement and unpolished feel, for example your cursor going off-screen.
The world is badly designed in my opinion, the developer didn't properly explain things through the game play/world, making you go places you weren't supposed to go or come to a road-block where you don't understand what you're supposed to do.
No real story to speak off and the game feels extremely unpolished. It feels like the developer didn't put that much work into.
I'm not saying they didn't put work into it, but when you leave it a mess it certainly feels like it.
They built it and decided to leave the rough edges.
They put the food on the plate but decided it wasn't necessary to clean up the plate after the fact.
I really do enjoy these walking simulator games. I love weird and abstract games but do not expect me to give your game any love when you leave it unfinished with terrible controls and bugs that are simple to fix, like the cursor going off-screen.
I wish the developer had just taken the time to polish the game up after it was made...

I've only played about 45 minutes of this game (collected 5/8 gold things), but I already love it. The art style, the music, the levels. It's great! My one complaint is sometimes the camera doesn't follow you smoothly, sometimes it zooms in way too far when you are up against a wall and is sometimes difficult to turn, which in turn makes platforming difficult.
I 100% recommend this game. I paid $4.99 and have gotten 45 minutes of entertainment out of it, and plan to get much, much more!
Laraan represents a whole world under your feet. Beautiful art, great soundtrack and thousand miles of an incredible open world to explore makes this title a must for this 2017 indie scene.
Beautiful colors, good ambientation, reminds me a lot of games from my childhood. I am playing it with the keybord and works well for me.
A very good exploration game. Music and ambientation are good, too. Low poly style is like a hand in a glove, matching perfectly the overall game. Try and error method for some puzzles can be annoying, but the reward is worth it. About control, I think is very important to use gamepad in this game, to control the character with an analog control and mix it with another analog control for the camera. With this configuration is totally enjoyable. Give him a chance and finish if you can!
This game has been a genuine surprise. The music walks you in a mysthic and colorful world. A remarkable artistic aspect that achieve, even for a few hours, get away from all and enjoy the experience.
100% recommended, good music, beautiful visually and I love its lowpoly style, it's a game that is worth buying. I'm enjoying it very much.
I love it, the esthetic, the music, this feeling of being alone in this world.
I just finished the game playing with Xbox pad and no problem so far with the control.
For being an indie game and the low price I strongly recommend it. Player control is trying to simulate "Last Guardian" one, I prefer to play with pad. Low poly style and the ambient music are amazing, I love it. Still in the desert level but wishing to see more :)
The game was bearable for the first 20 minutes or so. The camera control is terrible making movement very difficult. The movement is a whole differnt story. The first maze is when I call it quits. Impossible deal with. Character detection is terrible. I died by walking into a non moving trap door.
I actually hated the game the moment I started the game. The music is interesting but super loud. On top of that, there are no settings options.
Good concept but I rather play clicker hero than this.
This WAS THE BEST GAME EVER
im ususally optimistic about small games like this, but this time ive found a game thats just a complete joke. the man cant even walk diagonally and if you hold space he justs flys awkwardly oh well its reminded me how to request a refund.
I wanted to like this game, I really did. I think the art style is interesting and the aesthetic is very nice. The game however, is heavily flawed with a terrible control scheme and unresponsive controls. I hope in the future the dev takes the time to fix this game. It could have been something great.
