Battle Knights is the kind of game you remember playing back in the days of the NES and SNES. It's an easy to play yet challenging platformer. The game may seem trivial with Wonder only being able to attack, block, and jump but, rest assured, that Battle Knights is not for the faint of heart.
Featuring 4 game modes (Story, Versus, Dungeon Run, and Survival) and unlockable content, you're sure to find something that suits you.
Story Mode:
Battle Knights contains a story mode that consists of six realms that the player must clear in order to beat the game. The realms area playable in any order the player wishes, with a boss being unlocked after the completion of each realm.
Story mode can also be played cooperatively. All realms feature a challenge level that will unlock a bonus mode once all are beaten.

Versus Mode:
Battle Knights also contains a versus component containing 14 stages that can be played with up to six players locally. Versus Mode can be played in any team combination (2v2, 3v3, 2v2v2, 1v3, etc) or free for all. Knights of the same color are automatically placed on the same team. This means that to play a free for all match, all players must select differing knight colors.
Unlike Story Mode, Versus Mode has items that drop and, upon pickup, give the player a temporary ability. The frequency at which the items drop can be changed or removed completely if the players are wanting a more skill-based match.

Battle Knights is yet another of literally thousands of 2D retro platformers infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere. This one is particularly badly made but does feature multiplayer, but badly implemented. There's a slew of technical defects in this, it looks a lot like it was made just following a tutorial/template for making Unity platformers. Unsurprisingly this has no value as a serious game for gamers due to the abysmally poor quality and lack of polish.
From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard.
A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result.
There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. There's no way to ensure this is running at the native resolution of your display. There's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision.
The controls and game handling are notably very floaty and imprecise. It's janky and unsatisfying to play... and any experienced gamer will tell you, the handling, responsiveness and general gameplay feel of the control scheme must be well polished for this kind of game to succeed. Unfortunately, this is something the developer seems to have phoned in, with little to no apparent gameplay testing or polish done.
The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers, left handed gamers or gamers using AZERTY or other international keyboard layouts. To make matters worse, there's no mouse input, despite this being sold on PC as if it were a PC game. This is unacceptable and somewhat insulting to PC gamers. It's a good demonstration of the poor attitude the developer has towards PC gamers, and this attitude has resulted in yet another defect in this game.
These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.
Battle Knights didn't appeal much to the people who own a copy of the game, either. It has achievements, and they show us a very clear picture that the game didn't really capture any interest from gamers. The most commonly and easily attained achievement is for clearing the first couple of levels, trivial to get, but less than 29 percent of players bothered to get that far before uninstalling the game. Hardly a success story, gamers just weren't all that interested in the game.
The poor quality of this game is also reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 4 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 50,000 games for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected.
Battle Knights is relatively cheap at $3 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend. This is also competing with over 9,000 free games available on Steam, many of them far better than this paid product.
Battle Knights is a half-decent retro side-scrolling platformer, the length of which is entirely dependent on your skill at such games. I think I'm pretty alright at platformers but it's not really my forte, so this game is probably average to slightly difficult. The optional stuff though is another story entirely, playing with a friend we tried them and I could tell I would NOT be able to do them; He, being better than me did beat 'em with some trial and error. Speaking of, the co-op I feel adds little, it is nice to have a buddy help with some parts full of enemies. But ultimately, because the screen follows Player 1 and Parsec or Steam remote play can only do so much for input lag, it's not ideal for Player 2. Pretty decent get at the asking price, if its your bag of chips, it gets a solid recommend.
Battle Knights is a pretty fun game. Simple controls, fairly short, and goes from hard to EXTREMELY HARD in like two seconds. So, if you are looking for a fun platformer that is cheap, 10/10 would recommend. Has some multiplayer integration but, it is only local so, you will have to use the remote play function on steam and that requires pretty good internet to play *without* input delay. But, aside from that, it is a really fun game.
Like I said, the controls are very simple, left to right and a jump as well as a weapon swipe and shield. And they are very polished as well, nothing feels super clunky other then the fact that it feels like you fall a little quicker then what is comfortable but, only a little.
When I say fairly short I mean like, maybe 5 hours worth of gameplay. And most of it you will spend retrying levels over and over again. I spent probably half an hour on a challenge stage that was super short but, incredibly difficult. But, 5 hours out of a 3$ game? That's pretty good. I sometimes only get 10 hours out of 60$ game so, getting so much content out of something that feels priced for a mobile game store is pretty impressive.
This game is HARD. Especially if you try to beat everything like I did. Some of these levels are 'Bloody Trapland' level of difficult or, like someone also said in the reviews here, like 'I wanna be the guy'. The bosses, though simple and heavily pattern based, have such tight timing windows for attacks and dodging. Some of the challenge stages, like previously stated, can get so challenging that you will spend upwards of half-an hour trying to beat when the solution takes 5 seconds to complete, that is how tight some of the timing windows are in the game.
Coming from someone who has had experience in speed running games, the near frame perfect shenanigans you have to do in this game didn't really put me off but, I know it will put some people off. So, if you are looking for a mildly challenging platformer, this one is not for you. If you are looking for one that is going to give you orgasmic catharsis after beating one level, you found it.
Overall, as I said at the beginning of this long winded review, this game is really fun. Plus, it is dirt cheap for the content you get out of it (and just in general, like seriously, only 3$???).
Game wont start,goes to main menu and thats it.I have to crash it to make it stop.
Not really good game and I asked a refund. It doesn't even deserve the 62 cents I paid for it.
First of all, the developer states it is "Controller compatible" while in fact it is not. One should run a third-party emulator to process controller input. This clearly contradicts the feature listed.
Since the controller is not actually supported, all multiplayer features are also impossible to use since the game will only recognise the keyboard (which can only be Player 1).
By the way the developer simply locked posts asking for help.
Platforming is stupidly easy in certain points and unnecessarily hard at other times. With spikes having a collision mask on all sides and jumps being weird, you can't even reliably avoid them (or even purposely die).
After 10 minutes I had already seen everything that the game has to offer: some cute retro visuals and nothing more.
Didn't have to play this one very long to realize how big of a waste of time this was. Not to mention that I lost 3 dollars. This game is exactly what it looks like: a generic 2d platformer. But, it is so stale that it is virtually unplayable. No redeemable features what-so-ever. Hope the developers make a better platformer with lore that took more than two minutes to come up with.
Its retro presentation indicative of the design philosophy driving it all, Battle Knights seeks to deliver an intensely challenging platforming experience. Level design and enemy placement reward memorization, dexterous platforming and careful melee. Best played with a gamepad!
There's a ton of game here. On top of a single-player / co-op campaign spanning 6 unique zones complete with boss battles and optional challenge stages, the devs have packed in an impressive amount of bonus content by way of additional game modes, 3 of which wait to be unlocked.
Getting into the habit of blocking is paramount for survival as the 3 hits you're afforded can vanish in a blink. Bringing up that SSB-ish shield, however, saves you from suffering any non-spike damage for as long as it's active. While your attack range feels Wonderboy wimpy, there are random power-up drops that offer a Castlevania Adventure-like projectile to accompany each slash, although these are limited use.
Dungeon Run mode is my personal favourite of what's available in Battle Knights, taking the classic "pushy level" and making it into a self-contained, multi-stage adventure. Like the rest of Battle Knights, it's punishingly difficult and the forced scrolling can get frustratingly speedy but there's real satisfaction to be had learning a Dungeon Run level and executing it perfectly.
I'm looking forward to trying the multiplayer modes out with a buddy! :)
It's pretty fun. It has the SNES/Genesis feel to it which is always nice. It is also pretty challenging. If you are good at the game it won't take you too long to beat but for 3 dollar it is definitely worth it.
