Описание

Pepe Porcupine works the nightshift in a warehouse and needs your help! Each night his job is to move crates into position in a confined area with the least amount of work. Inspired by the Japanese game of Sokoban, which is a transport puzzle, in which boxes or crates are pushed about in a warehouse, your task is to correctly position crates with the least amount of pushes and moves. Played from a top-down perspective on a board of squares, crates can be shifted horizontally or vertically into empty squares, but never through walls or obstacles. Crates cannot be pulled, adding to the fun, and unless you help Pepe complete all 254 puzzles, he’ll be stuck at the warehouse forever!

Key Features:

  • 254 mind-bending puzzle challenges
  • Undo-feature when you make mistakes
  • “Head Scratcher” mode and “Head Banger” mode!
  • Great graphics and fun animations

"Why are you downvoting an indie game when you only have 1 hour logged?" I hear you screech before I can press the shiny blue-grey "Post review" button.
Because, you insipid swine, this game has no identity. I was promised an emotional journey that is an allegory for the plight of the working class, but instead what I got was the further perpetuation of postcolonial power structures. The game description promised hundreds of mind-bending puzzles in an engaging Sokoban-like with, and I quote, "[g]reat graphics and fun animations" (EnsenaSoft, 2016). This includes a supposed "Head Banger" mode, where there was nary a puzzle or piece of music that could elicit such a response in me. Indeed, Pepe Porcupine doesn't have a single banger, slapper, or bop to its name. Its paltry music selections leave much to be desired.
"But cute reviewer," you say, "the mindless drivel that the game passes off as music is a deliberate stylistic choice, as it reflects the tedium of blue-collar workers' day-to-day lives!" In another life, I'd agree with you, but this is regrettably not the case in Pepe Porcupine. I have reason to believe that Pepe Porcupine is merely a tool of the oppressor, a personification of Theory X, and the upholder of Big Sokoban's modus operandi (likely in tandem with Big Logistics, but that's a story for another review). Nay, in the world of Pepe Porcupine, bless his heart, he is content in his tasks, happy to get by doing the bare minimum. His little "yippee" and other such joyous ejaculations are evidence of his complacence. He has taken is gramme of soma for the day. He is happy being a tool. This is an inaccurate reflection of the working man, for Pepe Porcupine has no pride.
Oh, and back to the story, the levels, the "fun animations." Nonexistent. There is no backbone in Pepe Porcupine's rig. His skeleton is one without bones. He is a jelly-like being of squalor. The animation has about as much love put into it as Pepe Porcupine's corporate overlords have for him. Sure, the levels are there, but they fail to iterate upon the classic Sokoban formula in any meaningful way. There are no new mechanics introduced as you progress. Pepe Porcupine's world is one where there is no hope of moving forward, of moving up, or of moving out. Perchance.
What else is there to say about Pepe Porcupine, then? Any more evaluating and deconstructing and I fear I'd be giving this game more respect than it gives its players. Than it gave my hard-earned money. We need to do better. This. Ain't. It.

Personally, I got this game as a joke between a friend and I. I never really played the game much, but it does look like it has potential. I don't see why it is $2.99, though. It should be priced at maybe $0.99. The music in the background is good and enjoyable. The only frustration that I have really had in my short-time playing it, (besides that I don't really like puzzle games and I stink at them) is that there is an extremely noticable key-delay. What I mean by this is that when you try to move your character, it takes around a second to register that, almost like you are lagging.

Overall, the game is decent, but not something I would play much. I would give it a 6/10, but a 9/10 for people who have strong thought processors.

I would say only buy this game if you have extra money on your Steam Wallet and you do not know what to do with them.

Pepe Porcupine is a a masterpiece, and i love it (as you can see from my hours). The game has two categories: Head scratchers and Head Bangers. Both the gamemodes are packed full of action, and contain around 90 puzzles.

Graphics:

The graphics are fantastic, they have gone for the 3D 2D, meaning that its a top-down game, but the protagonist (Pepe) and the boxes have a sort of three dimensional shape to them giving them more life.

Music:

The music in the game is fantastic, its playing classical music at full volume; giving more life to the overwhelming puzzles. It appears to be playing the song "Gloria" by Antonio Vivaldi which in my eyes is a masterpiece.

The puzzles:

The puzzles in the game are challenging, but fun. The category names really fit the puzzles, seeing how some of the puzzles really made me scratch my head. The puzzles can either be really easy, or they can be puzzles that look impossible.

Final verdict:

The game is really worth the price, and im surprised the game doesnt cost more. The game deserves a lot more recognition because of the amount of work that has clearly been put into it. The game is fun for anyone, and everyone that enjoys puzzles. The graphics, and music is astonishing for the price of the game, and the game runs a lot better than a lot of games on steam. Plus, the game is only 75 mb. I highly recommend the game and hope that this review will make people appreciate the masterpiece of a game this actually is.

Pepe Porcupine is a realistic experience about the tedium and tribulation of a disliked yet expected job coupled with a challenging home relationship.

Pepe Porcupine immediately throws the player into an endearing and well-executed story about our protagonist Pepe. Pepe is sick of his job moving boxes but does it anyway as he has a moral duty to uphold his family legacy and work the night shift at the factory to the best of his ability. Pepe's immediate and all-encompassing love-hate relationship with crate moving is shown through the means of both displeased and cheerful sound effects during the game. Pepe's cheers of "woo-hoo" sent chills down my spine when first I heard them. Likewise, the choir music that sings during every level provides a powerful religious message, perhaps connected to Pepe's belief in afterlife and the spirits of his dead parents, who also moved boxes for a living. Sometimes, Pepe teleports through or around boxes. This and the input lag is most likely an artistic choice, designed to show just how soul-rending this labor can be. However, the drastic volume increase and harsh guitar riff after every level completion brings forward the obvious joy of Pepe when he does a job well. The on-screen vertical layout of movement buttons is a lagless option of ambulation, but still challenging in own demand as the buttons are placed strangely, haphazardly, as if boxes in a warehouse, stretching far up into the rafters. The undo button is Pepe's escape. Im sure he dreams of a new life, a fresh beginning, but determined to fill his family with pride, all he can do is dream of an undo in his own existance. Sometimes during gameplay, Pepe refuses to move for a few seconds. I don't blame Pepe. The physical exertion demonstrated by this anthropomorphic spiny mammal is colossal and endless. The levels are challenging, much like Pepe's life at home. This is demonstrated in-game by the frequent 1080p 60fps cutscenes which paint an eloquent picture of Pepe's sudden and tear-jerking divorce with his wife of eighteen years. A single father without custody of his child, he turns to alcohol and mild opiates to fill his empty life.

TL;DR
This is an incredibly insightful game filled with challenging puzzles, simple controls, and a riveting story that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The music is haunting and inspiring, and the sound effects sound like real porcupines. Thank you EnsenaSoft for this magical experience.
