Freebie Gameplay Achievements (5/5) Music/sound Settings/Accessibility/Misc
I don't think something like this belongs on steam, it would be better on mobile. But it's not necessarily a bad game.
You can also get extra points and lives by hitting a powerup that floats around which makes it more manageable.

So apparently I got this back in 2016, although I don't recall getting it. I figure I might've bought it with a coupon from levelling my profile. Regardless I just got to it tonight because I was looking for easy achievements, and this game has that. All you need to do is score 50 points. But it's not quite that simple.
Essentially you have a spinning paddle in the middle, and need to fire a ball from either the top left or lower right, so that it bounces off the paddle and hits only the green walls. Hit them and get a point, hit a red wall and lose a heart. There's also 2 powerups flowing around, one for an extra hit and one for extra points. It's not terribly complicated but it's also rather engaging for what it is.
It's about the price of a cup of coffee, or less, and it is pretty fun. Hard to go wrong with it.
It's a simplistic yet vexing game in which you have a spinner and two ball shooters inside a square, one in the top left and the other in the bottom right. You get rewarded for hitting the green tiles but punished for hitting the red by losing a heart. There are also rewards if timed correctly, one gives you extra health and the other more points. The spinner gets slightly faster the higher your points are.
While the game does seem random, there is an actual mechanism behind the randomness. I found the game to be fun, but there isn't much to it besides what you see on the steam page.
Developed by "Free Games Info" and distributed by "Back To Basics Gaming", Freebie is a casual Indie videogame, which gives us a more basic view, similar to the picture of some titles of the Arcade industry back in the 80s. It is the perfect example of a basic but adictive videogame, that you play for some minutes each day, as if you were a child in the 80s, inserting some coins every afternoon in their favourite Arcade machines. Luckily for us, you do not need to insert coins each day, as you can permanently add it to your library for a very cheap price; under one euro.
The idea is simple: you launch a ball against a paddle and hit a green surface. Each time you hit, you gain one point, and in that way, you increase your score. As a good Arcade game, people fight by aiming to a higher score each time they play. If instead you hit a red surface, you will lose one life. Lifes are very important, and you can win some lifes by going through a heart object when hitting the paddle. The game might not seem difficult at first, but each time you score ten points, the speed of the paddle will increase, and the changing trens of the green and red surfaces will become more difficult to guess. Your reaction time needs to be as accurate as possible!
The main menu is simple, and my opinion from it is in some way varied. First, you can choose between some music tracks, which are all awesome, and reminds me of Arcade, retro music. It also gives you the option of disabling music, in case you do not want to hear it. It is a very simple and intuitive menu, which also shows some information like your progress in completing achievements. The achievements play a good roll, as they are part of the progress, which keep you playing for getting as far as possible. I would have like some more achievements appart from progress, like "Collect 3 extra lifes in a play" or "Reach level 20 five times", for example. The menu also shows a leaderboard, which also makes you want to achieve a higher score. Pointing some disadvantages, it just shows the first positions globally, so if you do not belong to the chart, you cannot see your global position. Personally, I could not assimilate any of the positions of the board, as they were really high; and when I say really high, I am not referring to 100 or 500 points, I am talking about thousands and ten thousand points, something incredible. I guess these would be the kind of very good players in the original Donkey Kong Arcade, back in the 80s.
Until now, I have written about the basics of the game, and pointed the good things with some small mistakes, but now I will point the two considerable failures that I personally think the game has. The first problem is the "Epilepsy mode", a variant of the normal mode, that really, even by thinking my best, I am not able to find the purpose of it. Imagine a small kid or anyone does not know how to read or just skips all the writing, and chooses this mode. Even for me, it is impossible to play, how are you supposed to have fun with it? With its name, I think I do not need to give details of what the purpose of the mode is, and the risks it presents. Unless you are masochistic, do not play this mode. The second mistake, that I personally find important is the way the game shows you the controls, as they are simple, with only the four arrows, but difficult to understand what happens when you press each key. This might be a minor problem, but I think that the way the controls are done is a bit confusing, and something should be done for it.
In overal, Freebie is an adictive and fun game, and if you removed the "Epilepsy mode", improved the explanation of the controls, and solved some other basics, it would be perfect. This does not mean the game is not good, as it is, and I personally like it (that is why I have bought it), but some big problems should be solved, for making this game be above the average actual Indie Arcade games. However, if we compare this problems with how expensive the game is, it is worth.
Probably not the best game to choose from if you're on a budget. This kinda looks like something as seen in a bargain bin series of games, and even then some. All you really do is shoot balls onto a paddle to try and get it to hit a green zone, which is kinda easy on its own right if you know what you're doing. I've already unlocked every achievement in this game within the 30 minute timeframe seen next to this review, and honestly... I'm not that impressed. I'm sure this game is called "Freebie" because they only made this as an excuse to try and create another Steam badge with this game in mind. I doubt it's really worth one dollar, which is how much I bought it for. Unless you really have nothing better to buy, I suggest trying to find a game that's worth more of your time.
The gameplay's solid, if not a bit random.
The controls are not explained *AT ALL* in the menu.
The achievements are easy to get.
Final review:
★☆☆☆☆
The only reason you'd buy this game is for either the trading cards or the total of 5 achievements that come along with this game. The game is lacking in actual substance and the actual game should be free. Don't give these developers money (Despite the game only being ~0.99$).
If you want a cheap game that's both enjoyable and gives you good achievements, I recommend the puzzle game: Lyne ($2.99). Just spend your money on anything better.
It's a timing-based arcade game, where you have to shoot a ball from one of two cannons towards a spinning paddle to hit any of the two sides of the border which are green, making sure you miss the red sides or you will lose a heart. The ultimate objective is to get to the score of 50 in order to obtain the 5 achievements on offer.
Personally it took me less than 15 minutes to achieve all 5, largely because I realised that the secret was not to even bother concentrating on the rotating paddle, instead focus your attention on the heart or 1+ that rotates around the paddle and make sure you hit that. The law of averages should be in your favour and even if it isn't, you haven't really lost anything if you keep getting an extra life.
While I personally got the score of 65 using the above strategy I wasn't really trying to make a name on the leader board since it is currently showcased by the name 'Spitfire' who achieved the score of 9656. Evidently he is either a hacker/cheater or he's a serious gamer who recently had to have all his fingers replaced with cyborg metal ones due to severe RSI. So unless the leader board gets cleaned up to the land of plausibility, the accompanying high score leader board that comes with the game is a complete joke.
Graphically the game is presented in 2 modes, one which is normal and the second is if you like to have seizures every two seconds. It also contains three soundtracks all created by Gumbel of which groovy track 3 should have your hips bopping up and down in your seat.
http://www.freegamesinfo.net/ and https://www.facebook.com/gira01 are the keep it simple wizards who offer you a game called 'Freebie' for $1.00 (50 cents on sale). Evidently someone needs to buy them a dictionary so they can look up what the term 'freebie' means...

I'm getting real tired of the mindset that indie devs seem to collectively have now: make "pixel art" game with simple gameplay and sell it cheap..... steam is fucking flodded with this shit.... this game would be passable for a flash game on newgrounds..... and even then I would only give it a 2 on there because there is only 1 purpose if you don't count the fact that this game literally gets bought because people want cheap badges....
There exists good pixel art.... and good rpg maker games.... and good wolf editor games..... and good retro-style games..... my issue is it seems like steam just has like 15 terrible indie games that try to cash in on nostalgia for every amazing retro-style game that is good on top of cashing in on our nostalgia.... shovel knight, lieat, minecraft if you murder every single annoying kid that downloads a neked girl skin and creates a youtube channel only to forget about it 2 weeks later along with finding a creative way to "silence" the youtubers still milking the game to this day after the hype more than died down I'M KIDDING DONT PUT ME ON A LIST just ignore them and blow shit up, etc......
Anyways, you know the video they provide on the store page? Thats how fast this got old....I'm literally gonna get the few achivements it has and then idle/quit cycle for the last of the card drops.
Freebie is a game that's ironically not free.
The gameplay's solid, if not a bit random.
The controls are not explained *AT ALL* in the menu.
The achievements are easy to get.
And that's about it. This is a small, solid game. Was it worth the 0,34€ that I paid? Yeah, it was. Is it worth the full price? Eh... maybe. Depends how rich you are.
Overall
6/10
(All games start at a 5/10 and move up and down based on pros and cons)
Had a 75% sale on this game, used it and got it for 0.10€.
Decent mini-game, quite addictive ( once you've got the 100% achievements at least ).
Takes a very small place on the PC and is replayable.
This game, while rather simple and basic, offers a fair amount of entertainment for the price. I personally picked this up half off, and it was definitely worth my two quarters. The premise is simple. You shoot balls at a spinning weiner in the center of the screen, which bounces the ball in some direction. Now here is where the game gets tricky; the square containing the weiner has 4 walls, 2 of which are green, two are red. The colors are always connected, so you will never find two greens across from eachother. If standard gaming conventions haven't taught you anything, or you just prefer to reside under rocks, red is bad, it makes you sad; green is good, it gives you wood. The game has 3 different selections for background music, all of which are unique and pretty fun to listen to, my favorite for being the third option. Your options for gameplay are "play" and something the devs decided to call "epilepsy mode." The difference between the two is simply the background. A static background for standard mode, with a spinning background with a brightness that constantly bounces up and down for the epilepsy mode. While it is rather disorienting, the strobe light setting actually helped me to perfect the game: I will attribute this to pure goodness darn luck rather than skill. There are 5 acheivements in Freebie, all of which are obtained by reaching the next tier of how fast gumby plays helicopter. Every 10 points increases the speed, unlocks an acheivement, and gives you a really good overall feeling of accomplishment. It makes you feel like you have earned your perfect game. Something that I think is pretty rare. This game probably won't quite make any top 10 lists, but for the price it offers a fun experience, nice challenge, and good feeling. The game isn't spectacular, it is incredibly simple with basic geometric graphics, but it doesn't pretend to be anything it's not. It sticks to its simple idea and works as a concept. I rate this game 6/10.
Simple and Nerve racking.
Adjusting monitor to darker,
cover up the Score on the right portion of game,
could eliminate some distractions.
Nodding your head and placing the cursor at the point of alignment helps.
Practice makes perfect.
A low cost game for a perfect game achievement.
Freebie is ... wait isn't it free?
Freebie is a casual reaction game in which the objective it's hit the green bars with a ball using a spinning paddle, which will be spinning more and more every 10 points. The game just requires a bit of patience and reaction.
Literally you can get all the achievements under 15 minutes.
About features, freebie counts with a small quantity of background musics (3 in total) and two game modes (normal mode and epilepsy mode). Althought this game is too short it has been good designed about play with angles.
In my opinion this game should be free due lack of content, but i can't complain about it, due i received it for free.
Final score:
★★☆☆☆
Barely recommended.
Freebie Review - Rating: 6.3/10
General Impression
Freebie is a well-made game, in which you need to score as high as you can. After you have scored 50 points, all the achievements will be done. It took me a really while to get them all, I died so much. The graphics and the textures are neat and colorful. The epilepsy mode has advanced graphics on the overall surface, where the balls bounces. The atmosphere varies between a normal one (the colors on the background will change without flashing or anything special) and one where it has a bunch of colors rotating and which will flash constantly, giving you a harder time to conquer the score. There are 2 green bars and 2 red bars, which are consecutively one after another in a square. If you hit the green ones, you get a point. In the center, there is a paddle, which is constantly rotating. There you will hit the ball which will go into the bars. And also, after hitting 10, 20, 30, etc. points, the paddle will rotate quicker, making it harder to hit the correct bars. To get all the achievements, you must reach the 50 score. You will die a lot, especially if your reflexes are not very good. I have talked about the gameplay too, off to other features: The user-interface is very simple, and with no special designs, representing the retro era a lot, just like this game. The controls… the mouse doesn’t even work, hence the game says that it has mouse support. Maybe it is just for me, but I played very well with the arrows as well. Overall, they are simple and easy to learn. The engines are alright, I haven’t found any haven’t met any bugs, crashes, screen freezes or frame drops. The mechanics are neat and well-designed. Freebie is a cute indie game, where you will face many deaths before reaching a decent score. Good for the ones who want to improve their reflexing skills.
"Spinning paddle tennis"
The game concept of Freebie is very basic. One central spinning paddle. You have to estimate the outgoing angle when the ball hits it to reach the two green sides. I even denied to play the elipsy mode. Just beating 50 balls in a row to make it 100%
How to describe Freebie in a sentence: A simple yet hard game, that is more frustrating than fun, but gives you a great feeling of accomplishment in the end.
This game is very simple, it's a square which has a green angle and a red angle. The objective is to throw a fire ball (looks like a fire ball) into a spining bar in the middle of the screen to make the ball touch the green angle.. Sounds simple, eh?
Well, it's not.. since you have 3 tries before the game over, and after each 10 points (10,20,30,40...) the speed of the spining bar increases. Once you reach 30 points the bar moves so quickly that is really hard to predict where the ball touches the bar.
The controls are very simple you can use your mouse or press the up and left key to throw a ball from the top left corner or the right and down key to shoot the ball from the bottom right corner. Clicking the boxes with the mouse was much easier for me.
In the main menu you can choose 3 different 8-bit music, which are nice, but in the long term it makes you more frustrated with the game. There is also the option 'No Music', though you still have the sounds of the game.
My veredict: 7/10. Easy 100% (completed it in 1 hour or so), has trading cards, and overall is a nice little game.
I just can't understand you who rate the game a thumb up. The game is only about shooting a ball from either corner from the square to hit a green edge, with terrible sound effects and, if you want, infinite looping BGM. I bet a script can do a better job than mine. There's little fun scoring and since I have only 3 chances to fall, any life lose will be very harmful. I don't think I will ever open the game again, even if the ''game'' reloaded with bikini girls whose cloth will be strip off per 100 score (Which is a good idea to improve your game, developers.).
Nice music, BTW. You should make it a OST DLC at $1.
It's just a small reaction puzzle game. I "completed" it in a hour, and I was not disappointed. The price is quite cheap, if you have free money to spend.
Before getting to the 30 points you can control the ball quite well, but after that the pad accelerates fast enough and you can barely concentrate on the angle, at which you should release the ball. After 50 the thing becomes a meat grinder and you can't concentrate at all. However, for me it tossed the ball on the nearby wall nearly all the time and that helped me to get to the 61 plank, which is my record for now.
Very misleading. Game was not free. It took $.59 out of my Steam wallet that I can never get back. After this crushing realization I decided to give the game a try since I'm stuck with it now. It is incredibly simple yet more difficult than I first thought. I thought I would only put a few minutes into it but now I have the desire to get all of the achievements...
*Update*
I got all the achievements! Seeing as the game took me about the same amount of time to play as I paid for it I have decided to not refund it.
