I got recommended this as a solid 2d anime fighter that was fairly cheap and would be cozy to play, its not any of those things though so...
First of all you don't really have any playable characters, you have around a roster of 14 characters while having 20 additional fighters locked off as "partners". Partner just means you can press a button and they'll pop in for an attack and that's it. While 14 characters isn't terrible, what really made me dislike the decision was how (keep in mind I am not familiar with the fate franchise or senran kagura) almost every one of the partner characters looked more interesting than the actual playable characters of which half of them were just school girls but they have like a knife or two knives (very different I know). It makes half the character roster feel the same as well as slapping me with a "we could've put in a cool witch character or this weird sci fi character if we wanted to we just didn't".
Gameplay is just toned down, the most I'll say is that it's serviceable, but it's lacking anything interesting. I understand this isn't an arx system works game or anything, but it feels like a street fighter 1 in a sea of street fighter 2's there aren't a whole lot of moves which isn't a bad thing, but mistakes can be supplemented by the partner moves or burst, or you can lock in your opponent by using the partners when you end your combo. Either way it feels like understanding your moves or your opponents moves doesn't matter as much as it should, so much as catching them off guard which is the core of a fighting game, I just wish it wasn't in a way that makes it ultimately feel lacking and sloppy even if that's not necessarily the case.
Now I would leave it there, but a large part of why I got this was that I was recommended it being a cozy game, a game with cute characters that you can beat each other up with and just have a good time with. So, uh, I really really really need to emphasize that all the characters in this are not that. There is a cool princess girly with giant sword which is fun and a cool witch partner, the rest of them are like 12 years old with the animations constantly putting them in a compromising display, it felt partially like committing a crime while playing this so please be aware of this if you don't mind any of my gameplay complaints.

Although not the most perfect, or well done, or even well loved of fighting games, it gets the job done. It has a decent selection of beloved characters, a cutely cheesy plot and even a semi-VN to go along with it. Not to mention super cool cutscenes for the playable characters' lethal blazes...
Although the difficulty curve between the final boss and the regular CPUs is a little extreme, with enough practice it'll be alright. If you want a popular fighting game you can win tournaments in and show off, this obviously isn't for you. If you love fighting games, and Nitroplus, this is a 100% worth it purchase. Easily my favorite fighting game of all time.

I like it because it's filled with cute girls, but there is no tutorial. Not one. I wish it had one as I am struggling to play the game. I know it’s an old game but still, at least stick a button tutorial somewhere.
