ROAD REDEMPTION
Road Redemption —

Terrible level design, poor controls, uninspiring gameplay. Rather play Road Rash on Genesis. D+
Road Redemption is a thrilling spiritual successor to Road Rash, blending high-speed motorcycle combat with roguelike progression. The mix of brutal melee combat, gunplay, and high-speed racing creates an adrenaline-fueled experience that keeps you coming back for more.
The game shines in its chaotic, over-the-top action, but its visuals and physics can feel a bit rough around the edges. While the campaign is fun, the roguelike mechanics may not appeal to everyone, and some repetition can set in over time. Despite that, it’s an absolute blast, especially in multiplayer.
Pros:
✅ Intense and satisfying combat-racing gameplay
✅ Fun multiplayer experience with friends
✅ Addictive roguelike progression
Cons:
❌ Graphics and physics feel somewhat dated
❌ Can get repetitive after extended play
Final Rating: 6.7/10
Road Redemption delivers fast-paced, chaotic fun that’s perfect for fans of classic motorcycle combat games. If you loved Road Rash, this is a ride worth taking! 🏍️🔥
As a big fan of the Road Rash series, it didn't take me long to realise that this is little but a poor tribute, and not good enough to stand on it's own two feet, despite it being a noble attempt in some ways.
The general play is OK. It's certainly smoother and more together than the earlier Road Rash games, the modern QoL additions also help too. But a few big flaws killed it dead for me very early.
Firstly, the whole game feels trashy because of a rubber-band style effect with random enemies. These chaps appear out of nowhere and completely kill the sense of being in a race with other bikers. They're a boring distraction, and water down all the individuality which having named characters as opponents gives games.
Secondly, they've given the main campaign XP and there's nothing no more annoying to me than arcade style games getting crutches like that. These should be designed as a test of skill, not grinding.
Finally, it's almost impossible for you to be knocked off your bike by an opponent. This really weakens the sense of being in the game's scraps, and strategizing health management between races is, again, just out of place for a game of this ilk.
So yeah, not a game I reccomend. It takes the old school Road Rash formula, modernises it by transitioning it from Arcade style game to a more modern Grind based one, and kills a lot of the fun in the process. Too easy, too breezy, and just a bit lame all round.
As much as I love the concept, the game is fucking infuriating. With just a few tweaks it could be great, with a few more, it could be perfect, however in this state its more frustrating than fun.
++ Relatively original concept. Simple racing is boring, smashing stuff adds a nice mechanic
+ For a solo dev/small team, the game is quite feature rich and looks adequate
+ Option of getting health by smashing others is really fun
+ NPC interactions and mechanical design are well though out
+ Economy is relatively decently done
- Missing casual mode. The game is too hard to be fun for casual gamers like me. I do not have the reaction speed of a cat and dont want to spend my life acquiring it just to have a bit of fun.
- The progression is upside down.
- The latter bikes are all worse than the first one.
- You start with no powerups and the game gradually gets easier as you acquire them
- The mechanic of racing several races only to find out I didnt earn enough xp to acquire any powerup is infuriating given that the xp dont transfer. Its also infuriating you sometimes have to waste xp to get something cheaper because you need to unlock the next thing you actually want instead of spending the xp on something you may not afford in the next iteration
- Nitro has way too many powerups and items even though you will never lack on nitro even if you dont take any of the items or characters or bikes that focus on it.
- No minimap and no preview of the track. Unless you have driven so many times through each track, you have no idea what is waiting for you and combined with really steep punishment for riding off the road and shit handling, and you having to focus on the other bikes and cars brings a lot of frustration.
- Good handling for fights with others, but really shit handling for actually staying on the road.
- Too steep punishment for driving off the road. Combined with the shit handling and no minimap, this is really frustrating very often.
- Very repetetive and unskippable end race NPC comments
- UI doesnt look very good and on PC the controls arent really user friendly.
- The occasional bug (for instance getting spawned into the road unable to respawn, unable to ride or do anything)
I still recommend it, because the game is promising, but in it's current state I wont play a minute more of it.
The Highlights of the Game
✓ Multiplayer.
The multiplayer mode in Road Redemption is undoubtedly the highlight of the experience. It’s an absolute blast to kick enemies off their bikes, but it’s even more fun to kick your friends! The chaotic battles and hilarious moments that unfold when playing with others make every session unforgettable.
While the game can be challenging, one of its biggest strengths in co-op mode is that only one player needs to reach the finish line for the mission to be completed. This adds a layer of teamwork and strategy, as you can sacrifice yourself to save your friends or push forward while they cover your back. It’s this balance of competition and cooperation that makes Road Redemption’s multiplayer so addictive and enjoyable.
✓Fast-Paced and Thrilling Gameplay
✓Roguelike Elements
✓Variety of Weapons and Tactics
✓Atmosphere and Humor
✓Upgrades and Progression
The Downsides of the Game
× Limited Content
× Physics
× Graphics
× Repetitiveness
Really dope game with a great soundtrack. Multiplayer servers do not work and there is no actual online coop, however it works ok most of the time through remote play.
9/10 for Nostalgia (Road Rash)
5/10 for Creativity
It becomes very repetitive after a few plays
bought to play with friends the lack of ability to host a lobby of only us and the NPCs without utilizing remoteplay is frustrating. having couch co-op is a nice feature, not having an online that functions in the same way is not
This is a game where I wish reviews were based on a point system instead of Like or Not.
Road Redemption will be most appealing probably to fans of the old Road Rash games. There's little variety to the tracks, and the music is blah; definitely play this to your own music in the background. The gameplay isn't perfect, but it's at least fun, even if it does get tedious after a bit; the game is best played in short pick up and play bursts. Combat is fun, with a variety of weapons to pick up and use (blunt, blades, explosives, guns, etc), in addition to being able to grab, kick, and deflect. In between levels you can spend earned cash to replenish health, armor, nitro, or to level up certain things for your run. At the end you are then able to apply points to a permanent skill tree.
I purchased this game for $2.99. Fun game play loop. It will provide me enough entertainment until I beat the game.
Great entertainment in co-op at a very cheap price when it's on sale.
this game is so fun and i have only played it for 4 hours it takes some grinding but is a good overall game
It's a good single player game, multiplayer could use some work tho. Couldn't find a game.
Great for split screen co-op, fun as just a single player game too!
Maybe I just remember Road Rash being better than it actually was. I played the hell out of that game. I think for me the problem is in the gameplay loop. It didn't "feel" like a death race. It kept throwing odd "missions" at me that didn't really fit the theme. Having to take out a gang leader is one thing, but having to kill X amount of a group, or perform X maneuver so many times took it out of being a fight for survival and just made it a stereotypical arcade button basher. The "race" felt like an afterthought. And if you expect a sort of proper physics, forget about it. I purchased this when it was on sale for 2.99 and still refunded it. I just had no desire to keep it.
Great game where you can kill people as brutally as possible but lacks online co-op.
One of those rare games that I end up enjoying so damn much that I come back years later and play all the way through for a second time.
Road Redemption is a racing game where you hit, kick, and shoot people. It's pretty fun but is a shallow experience overall, all of the weapons feel the same, and after playing for a bit you feel like you've seen everything the game has to offer. The game has rougelite elements, but these elements don't really do anything to make the game more interesting. This game is a fine distraction for a while, but gets stale pretty quickly.
Don't buy this game for so many reasons it sucks..The programmers of this game have mental problem being raised by there parents and you can clearly see these people are unhappy in life...the game is in forever in unfinished mode...They don't understand the game that they are creating...pass this up theres better way to waste your money
Gran juego para cooperativo local 4 bobos en un sofá, muy recomendado.
Very slow load screens. The game is almost unplayable for how much time is wasted waiting for the level to load when the game first starts. And the game was released in 2019, so I'm not holding my breath that it will see any significant optimizations going forward. Otherwise the gameplay is fun.
Extremely fun with tons of replayability for such a low price. Bought it thinking I'd play for an hour or so. 6 hours later I'm still loving it, such a simple concept but so well executed, can tell the dev put a lot of love into this.
Also, as a biker, this game is an accurate depiction of my daily commute.
I was impressed by this game. It feels like a spiritual successor to Road Rash with a addictive rogue lite feel. Upgrading and slowly upgrading bikes and characters makes you want to keep doing JUST ONE MORE. Gameplay can be a little repetitive bu even weapons vary quite a bit. Graphics aren't overly impressive, but they dont need t be. Maps are randomly generated and controls well.
played it for six hours and now the servers keep saying cant connect. i waisted my money so you dont have to.
Great mindless fun. Up to 4 player local splitscreen. Now we're talking.
This takes me back to the days of sitting on my buddies basement playing Road Rash for hours on end back in the 90's. This isn't quite Road Rash, but I enjoy it just as much. Very satisfying game play, with real skill that you have to acquire and adapt to in order to achieve success in the game.
My only complain is I wish the upgrades worked a bit more like the classic Road Rash, but there are upgrades nonetheless.
For this price point, one of the best games in my library for a fast and satisfying 30-45 minute session. Can't always be playing Hearts of Iron!
this game really good for killing time , despite im huge fans road r*ash series since road r*sh 1 (first ever series) i can say road redemption is totally different one . too brutal i can say xD .
its more like downhill but the bottle change into the weapon xD
This is about as close to the old Road Rash as I can remember. Brings back a lot of fun memories from when I was a kid. I think there are some things that could be better, but it in no way is enough of an issue to have anything of real significance to negatively say about the game. I do wish I could re-map the controller functions, but again, not a deal breaker.
Amazing Game, Played This awhile ago. Ian and Paul are amazing dudes
Fun game, reminds me of RR on sega genesis. Good graphics. Usually runs well. I hit spots where my frames tank. Might be my hardware (1050ti , Intel i5, 16G ram). Other than the few performance issues, I like it. All of the items have use, progression is based off of skill. Currently only played Campaign 1
So fun to play, really nostalgic.
pretty f****n bad a$$ that the 2nd player can be on your 2nd monitor, if you have one setup. I wish there were more games like this on steam. This game def reminds me of the road rash 64 game on N64, classic. highly recommend
It's really not good. No balance in Online play at all. There can be like 4 vs 1 rounds. It's just plain stupid. Hell no from me.
Some good potential but ... the game is just badly designed and structured ... :/ shame as it could be a comeback for this genre.
- Feels like a cheap mobile game / unfinieshed demo.
- Can't change colour of the bikes ...
- CAN'T REBIND CONTROLLER (SERIOUSLY ?!?!)
- NO LOOK BACK ON THE CONTROLLER ?!?!?! (IN A RACING GAME!!!???!?!?)
- Risk vs reward is ridiculously bad, you can easily get killed or loose a chunk of health, meanwhile you get almost meaningless amounts of cash and health back for kills. You need the kills to get nitro, and you need nitro to win the races, but you're always risking ending the game while getting no rewards.
- You can't heal and regen nitro between races reliably because a handful of shop items is all random. The prices are random as well, 75% nitro regen can cost almost a 1000 and another time a full tank can cost less than 400 ... pricing and items are all over the place.
- All event types are random as well, so you might be getting the most difficult types of events all the time if you're unlucky.
On paper randomising everything sounds fun, but in reality it sucks. You should always have the ability to heal (at least a certain amount) and reload nitro between races. Shop item prices should be structured and make some sense.
At the moment it feels random, but not in a good way, and cheap. Shame because it could've been a great little game.
This demo is worth 2 bucks if that.
Bought on a sale for a few bucks. Best decision I ever made.
Pretty much a cross between Mario Kart and Devil May Cry.
Really fun game. Even better with friends. Great spiritual successor to Road Rash
Road rash reborn, what is not to like? My only complaint is the sound track... it is awful. We need 90's rock
Its no where near as bad as some want to make out. Its quite Road Rash like in game play, and the developer clearly tried very hard to make it fun and fast paced.
The sound effects for me could have been better, but its not a AAA game and honestly I think this Road Rash Like is worth the money, especially on sale atm.
Good clean dirty old fun, especially for players of the original Road Rash series like myself. I do miss the bike chain as a melee weapon however. The campaign game gets surprisingly difficult by the later stages and players may find it a bit of a grind building up their permanent benefits before they get good enough, but it's a decent learning curve. Don't expect triple AAA graphics.
I had this game for a while and was playing it from time to time for fun... and than one day I had this stupid delusional idea of doing a platinum. Thrust me when I say, that until this very moment I don't know how I did it... But don't make the same mistake, because this path is painful and full of frustration.
Great fun! Fast paced! Very satisfying and addictive to play.
classic arcade racer mayhem with rogue elements making every death satisfying given youve earned enough XP
The DLCs are meme material are are certainly worth it for cheap support
King Makers looks dope and im excited to see how they expanded upon this games systems as i can see a lot of RR in its trailers, which isnt a bad thing either!
This game is fun. 4 player split screen co-op. random generated campaign. New game+ and ++. characters are tough challenges but unique. Speedrunner character is hilarious. Enjoyable upgrade tree with XP. Cash and unlocks reset per campaign/death. Death of all players = reset. Not the longest grind but we are 14hours in and still need to upgrade/unlock characters/bikes. grab some homies and tear sheet up or what?
Oh and the music is fire. turn that up to max and all others down and grab a beer.
It's... fine.
I grew up playing Road Rash for the Genesis and *some* of this game scratches some of that itch. The elements from *outside* of Road Rash feel pretty bad to me. Having a block button in melee doesn't feel great to me. Enemies blocking you even when you hit them in the middle of their attack animation feels bad. Rubberbanding works to make them slow down as you approach but also to speed them up as you start to creep past them and this makes it harder to get away from enemies than it needs to be (if you get surrounded you might hit the break to avoid getting hit, only to find the enemies magically stay close to you because of the rubberbanding). The rogue-like elements feel undercooked and uninspired. 5% extra attack this run? Oh boy sign me up.
Once you get out of the opening area you start hitting maps that feel more Carmageddon inspired than Road Rash, for better or worse. It takes forever to unlock new bikes and they don't seem especially interesting. You carry a bunch of weapons on you instead of stealing them from other bikers, which would be more interesting if they made more use cases. "Stage hazards" like cars falling from the sky, combined with a low camera angle, make it possible to drive into unavoidable crashes. The crashes themselves seem to have too little consequence for the rider, whereas getting sandwiched between two enemies can end a run in seconds. Lots of questionable design choices here.
I enjoyed the first couple of hours and then burned out on it.
It ain't Road Rash, but the devs have done a good job of capturing that kind of spirit with some added mayhem that you wouldn't get in a RR game. Not tried it on my Steam Deck just yet, but if it runs anywhere near as well as it does on my PC it'll be an awesome game to have some mindless fun on the go.
A modern day reincarnation of the classic Road Rash. Riding motorcycles while battling it out with rival biker gangs and trying your best not to get into a head-on collision with oncoming cars. Super fun game!
Mosh Jondie’s Review of Road Redemption
There’s something uniquely satisfying about roaring down an endless stretch of highway, a crowbar in hand, and chaos unfolding in your wake. Road Redemption brought me back to my Road Rash 64 days—the ones filled with split-screen laughter, bruised egos, and the timeless art of knocking your buddy off their bike with a well-timed kick.
The game leans heavily into its Road Rash lineage, but with enough modern twists to stand on its own. The combat? Pure carnage. The weapons? More imaginative than anything my childhood self could’ve dreamed of. And the sense of speed? Let’s just say I missed a few turns because I was too busy enjoying the ride.
But let’s be real—after an hour or two, you start to notice the cracks. The loop of “race, fight, upgrade, repeat” gets a little too familiar. That said, I’ve found that a 10mg gummy can do wonders for spicing things up. Suddenly, every swing of the pipe feels like poetry, every explosion like the crescendo of an epic symphony.
At $3 on sale? It’s a no-brainer. Road Redemption may not be perfect, but it’s a beautiful tribute to a time when gaming was simpler and a lot rowdier. Whether you’re chasing nostalgia or just need to blow off steam, this one’s worth your time—and a few bucks.
Mosh Jondie approves.
There is some negative reviews regarding the controls and movement on the bike feeling (clunky) , I don't disagree .......... on keyboard . This game you 100% want to play with controller . Smooth as butter.I deffently recommend this game to anyone that wants to be able to shut down there brain and just play a fun additive game. You don't have to of played the road rash series way back when to enjoy this . Don't get me wrong , is this better the the classic RR . No .
The game isnt breaking the bank , try it out .
This game is hella fun. Please do me and everyone else a favor and add a private server with bots so my friends stop bitching lol
Woah! Very impressed and happy with this purchase. Game-play is fast and easy to jump in. Soundtrack from what i have heard so far is good too. Great game, i do recommend. I am a casual gamer who is also a Harley Davidson mechanic and this game made me smile. Thank you to all who made this game happen.
