BOMBERZONE: A BLAST FROM THE PAST...STRAIGHT INTO A BRICK WALL 💣
[Scene: The camera opens with a wide shot of Mr. Torgue standing in an industrial wasteland. The ground is littered with broken game cartridges and smoldering wreckage from various failed games. A massive, flickering neon sign that says “BOMBERZONE” is barely hanging from a rusted crane, swinging back and forth dangerously. Explosive barrels surround Mr. Torgue, just waiting to be ignited. He cracks his knuckles, looking like he’s about to destroy something—but first, he’s got to talk about it.
MR. TORGUE:
LADIES, GENTLEMEN, AND PEOPLE WHO THINK PUTTING A BOMB ON A SPHERICAL MAP WAS A GOOD IDEA… SPOILER ALERT: IT WASN’T!! TODAY, I’M HERE TO TELL YOU ABOUT A GAME THAT TRIED TO BRING THE NOSTALGIC FEELS AND INSTEAD BROUGHT THE RAGE-INDUCED SCREAMS OF EVERY GAMER WHO TOUCHED IT! I’M TALKIN’ ABOUT BOMBERZONE! EXPLOSIONS! EXCEPT… NO! THERE ARE NO EXPLOSIONS HERE! JUST TEARS AND DISAPPOINTMENT!
GAMEPLAY THAT'LL MAKE YOU FEEL LIKE A DOG CHASING ITS OWN TAIL—ON A SPINNING ROUNDABOUT! 🤢
[The camera zooms in on a spinning globe-like map, which wobbles and sways like it’s had a little too much to drink. Mr. Torgue walks up to it, grabs it, and shakes it violently until random parts start falling off. He glares at the mess.
MR. TORGUE:
WHY, OH WHY, WOULD YOU MAKE A MAP SPHERICAL?! LISTEN, I GET IT! SOME GENIUS SAT DOWN AND THOUGHT, "HOW CAN WE BE DIFFERENT? HOW CAN WE STAND OUT?!" WELL, CONGRATS, BOMBERZONE! YOU’VE MADE A MAP THAT LOOKS LIKE IT GOT INTO A BAR FIGHT WITH A BEACH BALL! AND LOST!! IT’S LIKE TRYING TO PLAY CHESS ON A FREAKIN' BOWLING BALL WHILE IT’S ROLLING DOWN A MOUNTAIN!
YOU’RE CONSTANTLY DISORIENTED, SPINNING AROUND LIKE YOU’RE STUCK IN A GIANT WASHING MACHINE! TRYING TO PLAN YOUR MOVES IN THIS MADNESS IS LIKE TRYING TO DO TRIGONOMETRY WHILE YOU’RE BEING HIT IN THE FACE WITH A WATERMELON CATAPULT!
[Cut to gameplay footage of the spherical map. Mr. Torgue’s voice-over plays as the character struggles to navigate, tripping over random debris and bombing themselves in confusion. The camera tilts wildly as it spins, inducing mild nausea.
MR. TORGUE (voice-over):
OH, AND DON’T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THE CONTROLS. THEY’RE SO CLUNKY, IT’S LIKE TRYING TO DRIVE A MONSTER TRUCK ON ICE SKATES! YOU THINK YOU’RE GOING ONE WAY, AND THEN BAM! YOU'RE WALKING OFF A CLIFF—AND NO, NOT A FUN, “YELLING AS YOU FALL” CLIFF, BUT THE KIND WHERE YOU JUST SADLY TUMBLE INTO OBLIVION, WONDERING WHERE IT ALL WENT WRONG!
ENEMIES THAT HAVE ALL THE THREAT LEVEL OF A SOGGY BREADSTICK! 🥖
[Mr. Torgue picks up a small cardboard cutout of a blob-like enemy from the game, squints at it, and then throws it into a nearby fire pit. A small "boop" sound plays as it burns. He shakes his head in disgust.
MR. TORGUE:
YOU KNOW WHAT GETS MY BLOOD PUMPING IN A GAME? BADASS ENEMIES! MONSTERS! DUDES WITH JETPACKS AND ROCKET LAUNCHERS! BUT NOOOO, BOMBERZONE WANTS YOU TO FIGHT... BLOBS! THESE LITTLE BLUE, SQUISHY, USELESS PIECES OF JELLY JUST WANDER AROUND LIKE THEY FORGOT WHY THEY EVEN EXIST!
[Cut to gameplay footage of the “blobs” just aimlessly wandering around, occasionally bumping into walls. One blob spins in circles in confusion. Torgue’s voice-over cuts back in.
MR. TORGUE (voice-over):
LOOK AT THESE LOSERS! THEY LOOK LIKE SOMEBODY TOOK THE SADDEST GUMMI BEAR THEY COULD FIND AND SAID, "HEY! YOU WANNA BE IN A VIDEO GAME?" AND THEN IT JUST SHUFFLES AROUND LIKE IT LOST ITS KEYS! EVEN THE BOSSES—OH, DON’T GET ME STARTED ON THE BOSSES—ARE JUST SLIGHTLY BIGGER BLOBS! NO DANGER! NO THREAT! IT’S LIKE THEY COULDN’T BE BOTHERED TO MAKE ANYTHING REMOTELY COOL!
I’M NOT ASKING FOR FIRE-BREATHING DRAGONS HERE—THOUGH THAT WOULD BE FREAKIN’ AWESOME—BUT AT LEAST GIVE ME SOMETHING THAT DOESN’T MAKE ME FEEL LIKE I’M FIGHTING A DEFECTIVE MARSHMALLOW!
POWER-UPS THAT DISAPPEAR FASTER THAN YOUR WILL TO LIVE IN THIS GAME! ✨
[Mr. Torgue grabs a floating power-up icon from the game, a pixelated jetpack. As soon as he touches it, it fizzles out with a sad "poof." He stares at his empty hands, then growls, throwing a punch that accidentally blows up a nearby wall of barrels. The explosion sends debris flying everywhere.
MR. TORGUE:
IMAGINE GETTING A JETPACK, STRAPPING THAT BAD BOY ON, AND THEN—OH WAIT! IT VANISHES BEFORE YOU CAN EVEN TAKE OFF! WHAT KINDA CRUEL, TWISTED MINDFLAYER DESIGNED THIS MECHANIC?! YOU THINK YOU’VE GOT A SUPER BOMB? YOU THINK YOU’RE ABOUT TO BRING THE PAIN?! WELL GUESS WHAT, SUCKER?! IT'S GONE! THE SECOND YOU EVEN THINK ABOUT USING IT! IT’S LIKE BEING HANDED THE KEYS TO A LAMBORGHINI AND THEN WATCHING IT DRIVE ITSELF OFF A CLIFF—WITH YOU ON THE CLIFF WATCHING IN TEARS!
IT’S NOT JUST BAD DESIGN; IT’S A BETRAYAL! I CAME HERE TO BLOW STUFF UP, AND YOU’RE GIVING ME A SAD MAGIC TRICK THAT MAKES EVERYTHING FUN DISAPPEAR!
SOUNDTRACK? MORE LIKE SOUND-TRASH! 🎵
[Suddenly, the grating in-game music starts blaring from giant speakers nearby. Mr. Torgue’s face twitches as he covers his ears, roaring in pain. He rips one of the speakers out of the ground and chucks it off-screen, where it explodes in the distance. Silence follows.
MR. TORGUE:
NOPE! NOPE NOPE NOPE! WHAT IS THIS NOISE?! THIS ISN’T A SOUNDTRACK; THIS IS A TORTURE DEVICE! I’VE HEARD ALARM CLOCKS WITH BETTER BEATS! IF YOU WANNA LISTEN TO A BROKEN LAWN MOWER CRASHING INTO A TIN CAN FULL OF SCREAMING CHIPMUNKS, THEN BOY, DO I HAVE THE SOUNDTRACK FOR YOU! YOU THINK YOU’RE HERE FOR SOME LIGHT BOMBERMAN-STYLE FUN, BUT INSTEAD, YOU'RE TRYING TO STOP YOURSELF FROM CRUSHING YOUR CONTROLLER WITH YOUR BARE HANDS AS THIS AWFUL LOOP PLAYS OVER, AND OVER, AND OVER, AND OVER… OH MY GOD IT’S STILL PLAYING!
THE GRIND THAT MAKES YOU REGRET EVER DOWNLOADING THIS GAME! 🌱
[Mr. Torgue, sweating and breathing heavily from the audio trauma, now stands before a chalkboard that says “100 Missions to Unlock Characters” written on it. His eyes widen in rage as he smashes the board with his fist. It crumbles to dust.
MR. TORGUE:
OH, YOU WANNA UNLOCK CHARACTERS, HUH? YOU WANNA GET THOSE NEW BOMBS? WELL, GET READY TO SLAP ON A TREADMILL AND RUN LIKE YOU’RE TRYING TO ESCAPE FROM YOUR BAD DECISIONS! BECAUSE THIS GAME WILL MAKE YOU GRIND. AND GRIND. AND THEN GRIND SOME MORE, UNTIL YOU QUESTION WHY YOU EVER PICKED UP THE DAMN CONTROLLER IN THE FIRST PLACE!
AND THE REWARDS?! DON’T EVEN BOTHER! YOU THINK YOU’RE GONNA UNLOCK SOMETHING COOL? NOPE! JUST MORE OF THE SAME TIRED TRASH! NOTHING HERE IS WORTH THE PAIN YOU’RE PUTTING YOURSELF THROUGH! AND IF YOU DO MAKE IT TO THE END OF THIS SOUL-SUCKING JOURNEY, THE ONLY THING WAITING FOR YOU IS MORE DISAPPOINTMENT THAN A POPCORN BAG WITH NO POPCORN! A WHOLE LOTTA NOTHING!!
VERDICT: BOMBERZONE IS A FLAMING EXPLOSION OF DISAPPOINTMENT! 💥
[Torgue turns to the camera, breathing heavily, fire in his eyes. Behind him, the "BomberZone" sign finally falls off the crane, crashing into a pile of barrels and igniting a massive explosion. The screen shakes as he stands in front of the flames, arms crossed.
MR. TORGUE:
IF YOU LIKE BOMBS, AND I KNOW YOU DO 'CAUSE YOU’RE WATCHING THIS VIDEO, THEN YOU DESERVE BETTER THAN THIS HALF-BAKED, NO-STORY, NO-FUN, SPINNING-AROUND-LIKE-A-DRUNKEN-SATELLITE TRASHFEST! BOMBERZONE ISN’T A BOMB IN THE GOOD WAY. IT’S A BOMB IN THE "OH GOD, SOMEONE MADE A TERRIBLE MISTAKE" WAY!
ZERO OUTTA TEN! NOT ENOUGH EXPLOSIONS, TOO MUCH SUCK! THIS GAME MAKES ME WANNA PUNCH A NUCLEAR REACTOR UNTIL IT EXPLODES—BUT THAT’D STILL BE A BETTER EXPERIENCE THAN PLAYING THIS TRAVESTY AGAIN!
BOOM!
[He storms off as the entire set explodes behind him in slow-motion. The BomberZone sign shatters into pieces. Credits roll with the sound of explosions and fire crackling in the background.]
