I really enjoyed this game a few years ago. The mechanics are so fun and addicting, especially if you like auto chess games. However, anytime I play this game now, I immediately get matched with the highest ranked players, even though my rank is only gold. I think the matchmaking is so desperate for players, that you'll never find a balanced game. On the other hand, this game also has one of the most toxic communities I've ever had the pleasure of dealing with. So, between getting matched with the sweatiest no-lifers possible, you're also getting flamed constantly every game by your team, the enemies team, and everyone in between. Just to be clear, this happens EVERY TIME. The learning curve of this game is also pretty steep. So good luck to new players that want to enjoy learning this fun game, because the community will repeatedly harass you about not being good enough, or for not understanding how the game works. I would not recommend this to new players. Just let all the elitist, who thrive off of the dopamine dumps this game gives, to burn this game out until there is nothing left. You know they've got nothing better to do with their time.
Great price, great mechanics, great replayability.
What do I think? amazing. kills time, engages strategic thought, and its more than just a tower game.
The developers added lots of randomized content, special events like PVE mode where you focus on building tower and buying workers but whats sent every wave is the same for everyone. Superhero mode where every 6 waves you gave a ability to place on a tower. These modes/events are on a schedule that you can view, there is 2v2 and 4v4, and endless mode. The developers put emphasis on feedback after every patch. Content is never boring and even if it was, just roll YOLO. All your units will become randomized, and you'll never have the same experience!
The game in a nutshell:
Use gold to buy worker, worker gives you 1 myth resource every 10 seconds, spend 20myth on snail, snail attacks your opponents lane and gives 5 gold income, after wave ends receive 5 gold, use gold to buy tower or worker. Repeat the process except you can buy more than just snails, the more myth you spend the higher tier the minion you send.
Place towers on a square somewhere in your lane, professionals do so to make the wave attack multiple towers(splitting the lane)
Now factor in weakness's. every tower and minion, have an atttack impact, magic, pierce, and defense fortified, natural or arcane, each one is weak against one type and strong against another.
Professionals save myth for multiple waves, then send a big attack.
You lose when your king dies, you win when your opponent leaks and their king dies.
well made TD. gfx are nothing to write home about, but more importantly the core gameplay is solid. multiplayer is where its at.
Quick summary
I do not consider this game as competitive, but it is chill.
More detailed review
It's kinda hard to advance skill and develop new ways to play because of the lack of mechanics.
In 10+ hours I established my favourite minions and strategy to play and I feel that I don't make special decisions anymore. I feel that there is a lack of minions' synergy and mechanics, all the minions are mostly equal and I can't do nothing special with them to withdraw something huge because of the linear mechanics this game has, so I'm getting bored.
I don't regret buying this game tho, these 20 hours were interesting and definitely worth to play. It's good to play a chill game there when you want to rest or take a break from playing Dark souls or Civilisation 6 or whatever makes your brain traumatise itself.
good strategy game that's generally easy on beginners while remaining fun for experienced players
It's so heavily tied to the steam token, it's ridiculous. Have the slightest of internet problems and you need to log out of steam, and back into steam in order for the game to reconnect to MP.
This is a great game to play with a friend. Strategic. Good against solo AI too. Online community is solid.
I really tried to like this game, especially for the multi-player implications but ultimately, it's just not fun to play. I like the TD genre in general, but this is just ... rough around the edges.
I am disappointed with this purchase, as I was expecting a lot of single player content for the money. Was shocked to see that only one map is available and the other are unlockable as (expensive) DLCs and unfortunately I only noticed that after being 10 hours into the game.
I left the comments option open, as I am happy to hear some arguments against my negative perception.
Other negatives:
- very boring and bad voice acting. very little effort put into it. generic music
- outdated graphics, even for its release year
- no effort into tutorial. for how bad it was, first 3 tutorial missions should've been done in a single take
- bad general atmosphere, basically
- some bad mechanics - like the idea of putting some ranged units in front so they tank a few hits before your melee units get in front
- I avoided multiplayer because the game seems prone to some build optimizations and punishes doing things in your style
- there is a lot of complexity that is not straightforward to understand. for example when hovering over next wave, I would appreciate a highlight on units that are vulnerable and units that are strong against incoming monsters
- no optimizations for this game's complexity. takes up a lot of memory and sometimes it freezes for more than a minute when trying to exit game
Note: I am still working on finishing Hard campaign on first map, which will take several more hours of gameplay, but my expectations were higher than this. I will probably stop playing after I finish the campaign.
Great game, suffering a bit from low player count.
Pros:
* Unique twist on tower defense
* Relaxed autobattle gameplay
* Strategic
* Easy to learn, hard to master
* Small but pleasant community
* Game is designed for mastermind (random fighters every game), and it's really fun and different every match
Neutrals:
* Same waves every game: Something to learn and base your strategies on, but repetitive
* No pay-to-win, but there are microtransactions for skins, cards and other cosmetic stuff
Negatives:
* Classic is a mind-numbing slog for casuals. Once you learn the basics, please play ranked
* Due to turn-based nature of this 2v2 game, it's very hard to carry an incompetent teammate
* Some players on lower ranks refuse to coordinate (I suspect they might be bots)
* In-game automatic coach is trying its best, but it's really bad at explaining what you should improve. New players should consult other players, ideally duo with an experienced friend
Great continuation of already good WC3 mod. Has unique gameplay, lots of depth once you start min-maxing the meta, but is also enjoyable from the first match.
Great game, I come from Battlegrounds and TFT, this is a unique take on the auto battler genre
Great game, really enjoy it. Could need a graphic upgrade :)
really fun strategy game with a mixure of Tower defense, some light resource managment and good teamplay
The game is great and really unique. It is a tower defense, but be aware, PvP brings some unique mechanics not seen often in typical TD game. It's kinda tower defense + auto battler PvP. There is no established name for such type of games, that's why I call it unique. I would call it a "Tower defense crack". It has infinite replayability, short matches (~ 20 minutes average), regular updates. It is perfectly balanced. Easy to start, hard to master. No bugs. It has some single player content, but the core game is 2v2 command PvP (or 4v4 mode). It requires internet for PvP. I find the community is also great - for more than 100 hours I did not vitness mean behavior in game, never no one was throwing a game.
good game, devs really seem to care, best patch notes i've seen, they are well thought changes and have the funny charm of old League patch notes. Refreshing as well that the devs actually play the game.
Though game is good reason for the negative review is greed, you pay a expensive price for game which is a free td in both wc3 and starcraft that they basically stole all ideas from, then in game they got micro-transactions. We can't support those whom try to triple dip.
incredible depth, many modes, just a great TD.
I had the privilege to experience LTD from like 0.7 through the 1.03c 'incident'. This allows for the main established & balanced factions to continue. More importantly, as a stand~alone title, they get to tickle the imagination that sprouted from Hybrid & Mastermind back in the day. That fascination of witnessing the gameplay upgrading in real time was surreal. At that time, the other go~to Tower Defense games were all on like Kongregate or operated on a whole other formula in the WCCustoms soup. Apparently there's a bloons spinoff that's TDpvp but I don't much care for mobile games but hey thats a thing so I know of TWO PvP Tower Defense games and this is one of them.
Nowadays RTS is about niche and they have carved out special events for the 4v4 classic matchups. This popped up on my radar for it's 1.0 premier and am quite grateful to the Steam Store bot suggesting this to me because this is legit a piece of my childhood that still lives strong. Bought it without a second thought. Been on/off for the past fourish years. There are three types of players, the casuals, the ranked, and the trolls. Sometimes the lines blur between the ranked and casuals, however, together we fight the troll plague! Highly recommended.
TL;DR ~
EDIT/ADDITION :: The way this game breaks down is there are games of either 4v4 or 2v2. You build towers with gold. Towers spawn at wave start, fight, win or die, then respawn at the start of the next phase 100%. Gold can also be spent on workers. Workers dig mythium. Mythium is spent on either king upgrades or sending extra foes to your opponents' lane. The more mythium you spend, the more you gain in passive gold per lvl on some like permanent interest outta free air. It's a balancing act of protect ya neck and smoke a ninja.
PPS :: Waves now reach engame on 20 instead of 30 when this was on battlenet; meaning, classic games average 30 minutes instead of 60 and ranked is about 10-20 min a match! Thank you for this subtle + respectful change.
Fun little tactical game with matches that last 30 min or less, decent international community
If you like bloons TD youll love this. Just replace bloons with different creatures and you can place your "Monkeys" where you want. Little bit of a learning curve but once you get it its pretty fun.
Came back with hope. Classic is still the joke it has been for ages. Please, make it either full casual or ranked adjacent. Make a decision. Upset one of the groups. but make a GD decisions to fix it. Ranked is just teammate roulette.
Yall had something, now its just unplayable.
This game has the worst MMR matchmaking I have ever seen, and this is coming from someone who played siege for many years. You will enjoy your first season but after that it only goes down hill unless you can gather people who will play with you alot and speak your language ,and is open to discuss and plan things out. Matching with randoms is just spinning a roulette and hoping you don't lose or match against players who are clearly way out of your league.
Hello, Legion TD2 Team,
I have played this game a lot—over 2300+ hours. I don’t know how to reach you directly, but I sincerely beg you to please remove auto-send from ranked mode. In most high-level games, having a teammate who uses auto-send often results in an instant loss. The same goes for Fiesta—it can be fun, but not in ranked. It really takes the enjoyment out of the game.
A really fun strategic game with a lot of depth. At first I was off-put by how small the numbers were, but once I started really understanding the game I realized just how much nuance there is. The game has a dedicated community and monthly tournaments, and single-player content if you're not confident or that's just not your jazz.
Good tower defense that has variety and multiplayer matches. Community is quite friendly so far!
Best strategic game invented after the chess. Being Legion TD fan since Warcraft 3, I can recommend it here and now. The community is great, the game is balanced, devs are doing regular updates.
Games buggy as hell. If you have to reconnect to a game for any reason, You cant see your income, mythrium, gold. Such a retarded bug to have.
Great game! scratches my Warcraft/Starcraft TD itch
Really good game. Not the biggest playerbase, but fast queue times and rather short games (~15 minutes). Lots of ways to play and the devs add new units and playstyles regularly. Best if you have a friend to play with, but going solo is also possible. Definitely worth the price.
There are so many balancing issues that it feels abandoned even though I know it's not.
It seems the developers don't even play the game cause if the did, they would have known how f@ckin broken the Crab Warlock is and they would have patched it immediately.
I don't know if the problem exists only in the lower bracket, but it is unacceptable to win the game by simply spawning a single TYPE of units (Crab Warlock). You literally don't have to do anything else. Just spawn warlocks.
I like the game mechanics, but I cannot give a positive feedback to an abandoned game. Sorry.
It's an okay game, but it's not Legion TD.
Classic and Ranked mode force you to play a random builder with a mix of units.
So the traditional factions and synergies are out.
Having a strategy or build order before the game starts is also out.
The graphics are well made, but they suffer a bit from modern-game syndrome (blur, flares, bad lighting).
The QoL improvements are actually really good.
I wish this was a bit closer to the original.
build towers, send mobs, kill king
rinse repeat.
fun.
if you ever played warcraft 3mods its the same game, different towers
much more fleshed out and expanded than i expected it to be, with some much needed QOL improvements over the dota 2 custom game equivalent. basically does for legion TD what underlords did for auto chess
A game I always find myself coming back to. Time and time again. This is the only game that manages to "re hook" me after I have taken a long break. Recommend for the tactical types of players.
Just bought the game, and between campaign and AI matches; the game is stuck on "conntecting to server/login" all the time and I have to shut down the game over and over to just play a few games.
I play this when I don't know what to play. Simple to learn but hard to master, there is a lot of depth in this.
I love this game and am a top 1% player according to the leader board and my peak ranked score. At the time of writing, I have over 900 hours in the game.
I cannot recommend this game because it does not care about your time as an individual. The game developers use a "voting" system in the game where you can elect to join a lobby to play a specific game mode, but the other players can vote to disable the game mode you've elected to join. Sometimes, these players are pre-grouped specifically so they can vote to disable the game mode in the lobby together and win.
Upon electing to play a game mode and the lobby voting the game mode out, you are not permitted to quit. You will be assessed for abandon if you do not stay for the entire game, which lasts about 30 minutes.
Edit: There is a ranked game mode and an unranked game mode. The voting system is for the unranked game mode.
Faster paced and generally more rewarding than similar games.
Makes you have to be aware of strategy instead of pretty much just dong income.
Solid A++.
This game takes a while to get into, but once you get the hang of it, is so much fun to play. If you enjoy games where you can strategically optimize in a pvp setting, this game is for you. I always come back even after some time off :)
It's fun and updated consistently.
Great game, really addictive.
Well balanced, decent sized player base and very well supported by the devs.
Fun and underrated game in the TD category. Been here since day 1, and I think it keeps developing in a good and engaging way! Keep up the good work.
Not really a TD, it's more of an autobattler, kinda similar to autochess. However, instead of battling against each other, your units face waves of creeps.
Game is really cool, there are like hundreds of units, many game modes and other stuff.
The community is sizable, and there's a decent competitive scene.
Playing with a friend is recommended, especially if you're aiming to climb the ranks and achieve a high rating.
Devs are active, constantly adding new units and balancing
Amazing and in depth. Balanced but with a hint of RNG. Just love how it plays and how it feels and all the strategies to try.
I've been playing the game since it was a map in Battle.net and I gotta say it's the biggest comfort game I've ever played. To my surprise a couple of years ago I discovered the standalone version keeps being awesomely supported by both the engaged and methodic developers as well as the passionate community. A must play for any TD lover.
This game is very strategic and there are many different and interesting strategies to pick from and the online ranked system works well.
This game fucking sucks. Juggling so many fucking plates for no damn reason. Just play TFT, shit's free.
Fun. Quick matches. Good multiplayer. Simple with depth.
