Fun game, barely any people pffff nah no one online.
Sincerelly the arcade is strong enough to carry, I would recommend the 2nd one over this one, the translation is so bad that you don't even get much lore to go from this one to the sequel but both go for so cheap so often that it doesn't matter you can get both for like 5% of the price of any other game in the genre.
And a big one, you only get 9 continues in arcade, that's REALLY bad, but that's never changing, though that is a big reason why somebody would not pick this one up.
One of Best fighting game.
a Hidden gem.
It's took me 4.5 hours for complete challenging achievements.
Very satisfying experience.
10/10
ℕ𝕖𝕠𝔾𝕖𝕠 𝕞𝕒𝕜𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕒 𝕔𝕠𝕞𝕖𝕓𝕒𝕔𝕜... 𝕒𝕟𝕕 𝕚𝕥'𝕤 𝕘𝕣𝕖𝕒𝕥!
Hello again friends! My writing is pretty rusty since I haven't done any reviews for a while. This time I'm bringing you The Last Blade, a Fighting 2D game from the Neo Geo era... If I were to bring back then gather all the cents I put in the Arcade machine of this game back in the day, I'd quite frankly be a millionnaire by now.
Anyways, the plot goes like you'd expect: Rich guy gets a hold of an artifact, uses it to invoke a demon possessed samurai who'll wreak havoc on the world with all his rage... Rich guy gets ganked by a bunch of champions from Japan who are all, ahem... adepts of the blade. In other words they're all Samurais, Ninjas, Swordweavers etc...
The artstyle is really the only reason why we'd plug in cent after cent into the Arcade machine without regret, and without hesitation... The slashing animations, the characters, they were all way ahead of their time! I'd like to think of The Last Blade as a Garou:MOTW upgrade to Samurai Shodown... You'd only understand this if you've played all of those games. You get Slashing, Kicking moves, and as usual, combos really take the fighting to a whole new level entirely.
One thing that I'll hold against this game is that the transition from Neo Geo to Steam really didn't deal with a very old issue with the game... a character so broken, that he recovers from heavy attacks instantly, and his overheads can go through even the most difficult combos to perform. I'll not spoil it for you, but a couple of games playing against the highest difficulty CPU and you'd understand the character is VERY broken.
All in all, The Last Blade is what Samurai Shodown should've been, minus the "Sword-Play" mechanics. The Last Blade actually has got combos and super moves, it's like Garou:MOTW but with swords. 8/10
The Last Blade is another classic beat 'em up by SNK and among the lesser known ones of the company, yet a very nice one with a remarkable charme and it's own unique style. It's playable just like many other similar titles and features options to make it comfortable enough even for leisure players, as well as for fighting game enthusiats.
If you prefer games like King of Fighters, Fatal Fury and especially Samurai Shodown, this is definitely for you. The adaption is well done, running smooth, yet it doesn't come along with anything new or additional features, you simply get the good old stuff from 1997 plus some options like difficulty, timer, etc. But it works fine just like it is.
It's a solid fighting game. I have one major complaint though: the versus mode is PvP only, no 1P-vs-COM match. You can only play single player through story and time attack mode. And training mode is barebone. With 80% discount, it's not bad.
Fighting game. A bit old-school. May be a precursor to Samurai Showdown. Decent if you know what you are getting into.
The Last Blade Is Highly Recommended, Very Fun Game
I know I don't have much time that I have been playing this right now. But it seems to be a good port of the Last Blade. It seems to be just like it used to be. Though you can pause, and there is a command list. It plays like it should. If you want to use the boss characters, you need to put in an impute, every time you want to use them. But other than that, it seems to be pretty good.
when i start game,Launches in vertical mode, have tried to change several ways no luck,Don't recommend buying.
Beautiful Game, awful port.
Like the Garou Steam port this Last Blade Steam ed suffers from very much the same faults.
Again the game drops directional inputs making crouched chain combo input very unreliable and hi level play impossible.
Strange as Last Blade 2 doesn't suffer this input bug. Dot emu, can you patch this please?
Edit:
There's a fix for the buggy x-input. In BP go to controller > steam input per game setting> forced off. Save and exit.
Start the game and the game controls should work normal. This trick works for all of dot emus neogeo releases.
I put yes, but am not sure. I like being able to play this Arcade Classic, but it has it's problems, it runs at around 57 FPS, and I own a PC that can run at 4K. The other problem Avast Antivirus said the game is a virus, might be a false positive, but I would like to make sure. I can mod the game's graphics with Reshade HQ4X, but I would like xbrz, or xbr round no corners, which is reported to be xbr-c, xbrz is more preferable though. DotEmu still has a lot of work to get these games to run well, I bought Irem Arcade Hits, and the sound sync is horrible, and the collection lags a little. Many games from DotEmu run about the same speed as the The Last Blade.
Okay i love the game but why is the last guy op asf and it seems unfair than anything i cant beat him or anything and its makking me very made still a great game but the boss is just f**king stupid his reach is too op, he does is specail just as I attack and he keeps grabbing me.
Fun, different and no stranger to some hilarious translation errors. Do not ask me why this game was chosen over the much more popular and overall superior The Last Blade 2. Still it is nice to see the first game get some appreciation.
Expect the usual DotEmu port problems but I will recommend this because it is very functional and never gave me bad frame rates in the couple of hours I played and it is a game. I apologize once again for lack of experience with online play but given the usual folks working on this port you can expect a functional but pretty bad time where as local play and arcade work just fine and if you are into fighting games mostly likely you are fine with local play anyway. If not well I guess I cannot recommend this. Now I like giving SNK my dough but for the asking price of a game that is not hard at all to play by maybe-not-legal means and is less popular than it's sequel maybe the other form of critism I have for this game is they can tone the price down to 5-6 units of your local money as opposed to 10. That's all I have. Big SNK fan and this game works even if not my preference.
I really wanted to like this game as I grew up with Samurai Showdown and other Neo Geo fighters, unfortunately not the case here. UI was not appealing to me and for me I would have preferred to have the boss characters selectable from the start in the fighter menu.
this is an extremely bad port
on a reasonably good PC I get abysmally low framerate, and on this meh laptop it runs fine.
The PC shouldn't matter as this is an arcade game from 1999 and runs perfectly on third party emulators.
It won't even let me set me controls correctly, I constantly tap the key I want the control to be mapped to and it just DOESN'T WORK
I don't understand what's wrong with it but I'm definitely getting a refund.
A greate classic arcade game , i hope SNK release The Last Blade 2, Garou and Samurai Shodown next.
Love this game. I have fond memories of playing this back in the day.
plays very well, but there isnt much to do apart from versus and arcade mode. menus are a little awkward to navagate.
Great game and is well worth its 10$ i paid, but maybe wait till Last Blade 2 releases on steam for larger fighter roaster, a better menu interface, and hopefully more features.
7.5/10
Even though I don't really like DotEmu's emulation job, I feel that having Neo Geo games on Steam is a must! Especially this game. Now they just got to port Samurai Shodown and Magician Lord on to Steam! Way more enjoyable than No Man's Sky, where everyone is duped in on buying.
Very much similar to the later Samurai Shodown titles this game follows in it's footsteps as a spiritual successor, or rather a game based at a later date than SS with an entirely different cast of characters.
Decided to pick this up after seeing the gameplay. I'm glad that the gameplay itself lived up to my expectations. The game is very fun and accessible for newbies to fighting games like me, and nothing is too complex but I can tell there's a LOT to master.
As for the port, it's honestly bad. UI is ugly, it's a little annoying to have to look for your character every time you go to the commands list, and there's some bugs and crashes. Fingers crossed that they'll address the issues, but even if they don't this game is worth supporting if you want more SNK games on Steam!
It's not Last Blade 2 and it's not Samurai Showdown. It is still a solid game with solid mechanics. My hope is that adding this game to Steam and seeing decent sales with it will bring a higher possibility of King of Fighters XIV on Steam.
Bought to support my fav weapon based FTG. Also unlike the Humble Bundle Neo Geo 25th Anniversary version, you can remap buttons! Can't wait for the release of Last Blade 2 (and other classic SNK FTGs) on Steam.
I have been asking for more SNK Playmore games for a long time. I actually just asked them to put the second The Last Blade on Steam yesterday. I love this game and would love to see more SNK Playmore games on Steam. This is a must buy if you like good old fashion fighting games with really unique Super Moves and characters. I LOVE THIS GAME!
If you want to find the nostagic feelings when playing arcade fighting games, this is definitely the game you should buy. Just purchase today, ans I'm pleased with it. though, I hope the game can run a little bit smoother like KOF 2002 UM. Hopefully they will come up with the update patch soon. Waiting for Last Blade 2 and Garou to be released soon.
