I didn't really like this one as much as the first one (I feel like the characterization of Kate changed too much, among some other issues). It's still worth a play to continue the story, but not necessarily a great game in its own right. Even so, I still plan to play the rest of the series.
fun
Exciting, challenging
Syberia II picks up where the first game left off for you to continue the story and it's just as good as the first. Played both games with my mum growing up and it's very nostalgic for me to replay them. Fun new and old characters and puzzles. It's not quite as obvious who you need to speak to about what and what to do with items in some puzzles, but it's still a very interesting game.
It's a classic, the vibe is great, the story is lovely.
But playing this game is such a hassle.
Too many useless location in between the main locations and you have to get to this end of the map to the other end with no skippable walking animation.
Too many conditions must be met for an option to show up.
Played this for 3 hours, out of which for 2 hours I just walked probably.
This game is meant for the most advanced puzzle gamers. I was unable to get through the first Syberia game without help from the walkthrough a couple of times, and I suffered through the same fate while playing its successor. Yet, just for the challenge of it, I decided to take on Syberia II. Despite the experience I gained from playing Syberia I, on some of the puzzles, I pulled out too much hair trying every freaking possible strategy I could think of, making Kate Walker traverse the same areas repeatedly, clicking on the same objects again and again, before giving up and resorting to the walkthrough video. The developers have done a great disservice to gamers by providing confusing/inadequate clues for some of these puzzles. For example, in one particularly harrowing puzzle, one will need to know how to access the documents menu, which was a mystery for me thanks to the lack of a tutorial at the beginning of the game. There was another puzzle where I was stuck for hours because I was not in the habit of observing every minuscule detail in each of the hundreds of frames that constitute this game.
Nonetheless, the graphics and artwork are wonderful, and the game immerses you in some very beautiful settings. Like its predecessor, the story is highly unusual yet fascinating. The puzzles will give you tremendous amount of brain engagement (and even more brain fatigue). Although I am recommending this game, I would not recommend playing it if you don't have access to a walkthrough video.
This was everything a sequel is supposed to be. Everything enjoyable about the original with more. That said, I feel valid copying and pasting a lot of the pros and cons from my review of the first game.
Pros:
-Great story and character development
-Atmospheric
-Calm and beautiful soundtrack
-Entertaining voice acting
-Visuals aged well
-Very affordable during Steam sales. Only a few dollars if I recall correctly.
Cons:
-Controls and interface didn't age as well.
-Slow movement speed and animations at times make backtracking tedious
-Some puzzles felt a little more cryptic and less intuitive than in the first game.
This is absolutely worth playing and I happily recommend the first 2 Syberia games.
I'm not saying it's THE best way to send off an ailing loved one, BUT packing an old man into the robotic corpse of a friend and sending him unattended with a pack feral pachyderms definitely ranks among the top 10 palliative care best practices.
Soo good and story-line great! Along with first game
The game from my childhood, love it dearly
Better then the first
