The Producers of Syberia I and II are proud to present Still Life.Victoria McPherson, is a brilliant young FBI agent who’s investigating a serial murder case. The body count is now at five and with the lack of real leads and a mountain of circumstantial evidence, Victoria is beginning to show signs of fatigue and stress.
She decides to take a break and go rest at her father’s home in suburban Chicago; after all, it is close to the Christmas holidays. However, Victoria does not find rest. Instead, she finds one of her grandfather’s old case files and begins to read. Oddly enough, Victoria’s present case resembles the one from the past, right down to the killer’s MO…

In shadows deep, where silence screams,
A city bleeds beneath cold beams.
The streets, they whisper secrets old,
In tales of lives that can't be told.
Victoria searches, heart in hand,
Through traces left in a bloodstained land.
Her grandfather's steps, long passed in time,
Still echo in rhythm, a twisted rhyme.
Who is the hunter, and who the prey?
Where does the light begin to decay?
Each victim's breath, a hollow plea,
Each clue a mirror, reflecting me.
In the heart of darkness, we dig and delve,
Seeking truths we can't truly shelve.
A murderer’s art, a cruel disguise,
Are we not all bound by these lies?
Still, we chase through endless night,
For justice, or for something right?
The answers wait, but so do we—
Trapped inside the mystery.
Who am I, when I face the end,
In this game where none can defend?
Still life, still death, a bitter brew—
How much of this is me, and you?
The story is decent, but there are too many tedious, clunky aspects to the game.
Download dgVoodoo and drop the appropriate DLLs into the game's installation folder to avoid issues on newer hardware.
Yet another reason why Steam needs a "meh" button. The story, up until the ending, is fine and has you wanting to progress to solve the case, but the puzzles range from annoying, to impossible to solve without a walkthrough. The worst are presented as logic puzzles, but logic only gets you so far and you ultimately need to make some wild guesses to reach the solution. A good puzzle never makes you guess. I'm giving this a negative review because the ending provides zero closure, so the promise of the otherwise intriguing narrative falls flat on its face.
this game sucks, the end.
Still Life is a 2-D point & click adventure game that, while flawed, offers an experience that dedicated fans of the genre might still appreciate. Unlike the open-ended narratives of Sierra or LucasArts titles, Still Life presents a very linear story. The game gives the illusion of choice by allowing players to travel to various locations on a map, but ultimately, you’re funneled through a rigid sequence to progress the narrative.
The graphics are outdated, and getting the game to run on modern systems like Windows 11 requires a 3rd party tool, which can be a hassle. The puzzles, while challenging, often feel more like roadblocks than engaging gameplay elements. These mindbenders are frustratingly difficult and do little more than delay your progress. I believe the game would have benefited from either omitting these puzzles entirely or providing an option to skip them.
Adding to the frustration is a cliffhanger ending that leaves the player unsatisfied. While there is a sequel, I haven’t played it yet to see if it resolves any of these loose ends.
Despite these criticisms, I still recommend Still Life to fans of point & click adventure games. The atmosphere and narrative, though linear, have enough intrigue to keep genre enthusiasts engaged—just be prepared for some rough edges along the way.
Its a shame that this game is sandwiched in between a lackluster prequel and a god awful sequel. If u play any game in this series pick this one.
