the game is so good, but the controls are a bit clunky like u can't move your character for like 10 secs after pressing something and the character is still slow and heavy even while running other than this the game is amazing i enjoyed it so much the story the plot the voice acting is so good and Idc about the graphics tbh but still wasn't that bad I only have problem with lip-syncing animation but I'm not expecting that much from 2012 game 8.5/10 game

Difficult puzzles, lots of fascinating scenery, interesting story

Short game at around 10 hours, but it was overall enjoyable. The writing and most mysteries and puzzles are quite good. If you get it cheap enough, that's all good.

There are some instances of weird logic that don't exactly seem to make sense (at least at first), but just interact with everything and you will get all that is needed to progress.
Some of the puzzles had me completely confused because the game often does not even give you the "question", basically you just get a puzzle with random numbers/buttons/whatever and 0 hints or infos about it so you just stare at it for 10 minutes until you actually understand what the problem you have to solve even is. But once you know what you are even supposed to do to solve it, most make sense and are straightforward, if some can be tedious.

There are problems with saves and getting the game to run on modern systems. Check the pcgamingwiki and follow the instructions there, then it should run flawlessly.

Also if you care for the achievements, make sure you never skip any puzzles, you have to solve them all in one continuous playing of the game.
Also there is the "Blackmailer" achievement which requires 3 specific dialogue choices at select times in the game, again it has to be in a continuous play.
Check guides for that if you care.

I was able to finish the game without any crashes! maybe because I have a potato pc at the moment :D
I found the gameplay mechanics a bit rigid in my opinion for a detective game, everything is almost focused on interacting with the environment with very little thinking and deduction.
The story is interesting and coherent but you have to try to finish the game quickly otherwise you lose the course of events.
There is a lot of puzzles too much maybe.. and sometimes they are frustrating and you don't understand what to do to advance without any hints..and if you dont want to use the concentration mode you will loose a lot of time, but overall it's not a big problem.
I liked this opus but clearly it's not the best of the series. 6/10

Although the puzzles can be frustrating at times, this a very unique Sherlock Holmes story. You'll have to play it to see what I mean. I was impressed to find that this is a completely original story and not based on anything, which is the case for the rest of the series as well. I guess I'm just not used to good video game writing anymore

It's fine, feels more like a game from 2002 than 2012.

If you can handle lots of jank, a few bugs, a fair amount of extremely annoying adventure game pixel hunting and obtuse puzzles there is a good game here, It's just buried under all the layers of eurojank.

Short but great game, keeps you on your toes and there is always a plottwist right around the corner, some items can be hard to find and annoying but overall a solid 8.5/10

If your game doesn't start when I press play then that's an automatic thumbs down. Seems like this issue has been around for over a decade. I found a thread from 2013 that talks about the issue, and this game came out in 2012. The devs clearly didn't care about fixing it. The way I fixed the issue is at the bottom of this review.

This game continues the mispronunciation of certain words in English by the dev team which can be funny but also seems lazy. They made a game in 2011 called Dracula Love Kills where the titular character pronounces the word scepter like "skep-ter." In this game, the title Marquis (pronounced like "mar-key") is pronounced like "mar-kwis."

Also the 3 children at the very beginning are the most frightful things I've ever seen in a video game.

A possible solution if you click to play the game and it doesn't start. The info below is from two Steam discussion threads for the game. They both had a link but I'm not posting it. If you just google the specific NVIDIA drive below then you'll find it. *You may need to use another browser if it doesn't let you download it from the browser you normally use.
1. Please uninstall the current NVIDIA PHYSX drivers:
- Open Computer then click Uninstall or change a program.
- Uninstall the NVIDIA PHYSX drivers and restart the computer.

2. Search the internet, download, and install the NVIDIA PHYSX 9.12.613 drivers:
- Save the file PhysX-9.12.0613-SystemSoftware.msi on the hard disk.
- Once the download done, run PhysX-9.12.0613-SystemSoftware.msi and follow the instructions.

3. Run the game.

Spectacular Game! Loved the outcome of the story - plot twists. Graphics were very good - (If you set it up to high). Also not to mention, puzzles - challenging!

unplayable garbage!! - wasd only works in first person view, in third person view he never stops walking impossible to control..

and when I exit the game it crashes my computer, I had to hold down the power button until it turned off - ctrl alt del didn't even work!!!

Be warned, the Blackmailer honors and achievement can be missed, causing 100% completionists to play through a good chunk of the game a second time for it.

As a Sherlock fan (partially because of the games), the Testament of Sherlock Holmes is good.

The game follows Sherlock Holmes going through a single long case, and the story is told like the books with Watson not being fully aware of Sherlock’s plans until the end. This game does not involve as much deduction as the later games, and instead has more puzzles. The puzzles and simple exploration are fun to do. Part of the story of this game is continued later in Sherlock: The Devil’s Daughter (which I also recommend).

This Sherlock game has 32 achievements, most of which can be earned through a normal playthrough.

My personal favorite in the entire Frogware's Sherlock Holmes series.

The Testament of Sherlock Holmes takes another dark step forward following Sherlock Holmes vs. Jack the Ripper and poses several questions for the player to question the integrity of our favorite detective. Interestingly, the game largely keeps you in the dark until late into the game, and has two very shocking yet surprising swerves.

What this game does the best is finally give the great Sherlock Holmes a sense of humanity he never really had in the series before.

This game was the first in a soft reboot of the series, with the following two games making more drastic changes to the appearances of Dr. Watson and Holmes going forward.

Old but solving puzzles are intriguing.

Overall a good game. Only thing I would complain about are some of the puzzles. Some took me awhile to figure out what it is I am suppose to do. Most did offer a skip if needed but if you are like me, determined to solve each of the puzzles are your own, it can get frustrating. Other than that, I enjoyed the story line & how it seemed like it was coming to an end but it actually went a lot longer than I originally thought.

It was almost ok.
I did finish it, so it was enjoyable enough for me to do so, but half of the story is incoherent, the movement is frustrating at times (you move through corridors with similar backgrounds, but when you move from one screen to another the directions invert and you lose orientation. That happens a lot).
There were some nice riddles but some that were tesious or annoying.
Sherlock himself is the least likeable that I met so far in this series of games.

If you like the previous games in this series you might enjoy it, but I think that Jack the ripper and Arsene Lupin are better games.

I was blown away by this game. The story was so good, and the mysteries were so fun to solve! This was my first Frogware Sherlock Holmes game and I honestly highly recommend it : )

TL;DR Crimes and Punishment is above and beyond the superior game, just play that instead.

The Testament of Sherlock Holmes might present itself as the "First of the New" but its actually the "Last of the Old".

This entry in the series really doesn't hold up mechanically. Sherlock (and Watson when he has his sections) control like ass and often I find myself unable to move for some reason and have to reorient myself in order to move again. I feel like the controls alone are enough to put off the vast majority of modern gamers. Sherlock games immediately after this one control fine.

The puzzles for the most part are just bog-standard point and click ones. There are very few (three in a 13hr game) times where you are actually meant to deduce yourself what happened at a crime scene, and even then if you found all the clues you can brute force the solution since the game will lock in correct deductions.

The story overall is decent but the pacing is all over the place and the game is too long for its own good. It could have easily been a shorter tighter experience and it would have benefited the pacing. I much prefer the approach to story the Sherlock games after this one did, having individual cases as levels with a larger overarching story.

The Testament of Sherlock Holmes as an entry in the Sherlock series is worth skipping if you're not a fan of old style point and click games, however if you are a fan of the really old Sherlock games that came out prior to this one you may find some value in this. However, Crimes and Punishment is a much better game if you're looking for a singular Sherlock Holmes experience to try.

Too tedious. No real guidance or consistency to keep the game moving. When I have to keep looking up online what to do next from early on in the game, and when I keep getting stuck in an area and can't figure out where to go or what to do next, the game is not for me. Takes all the fun out of it.

I've been playing Frogwares games since the beginning and they always put themselves one step above their prior releases. I've been playing them all in release chronology and I was a big fan of the structure of Crimes and Punishment but did miss the bigger story arcs. Fortunately, Testament delivers on that supremely. I caught onto the plot twist pretty early but the ending ending, I did not and it was very worth it.

The older Frogwares adventures can be a bit wonky in terms of controls but you get used to it. The bigger problem I had on this was that it was the first time I was playing on an Ultrawide monitor (21:9); the POV was definitely messed up and I did have issues. While I was preferring First-person most of the time, sometimes I would have to change to Third to get some puzzles to work correctly.

i still like crimes and punishments better for the gameplay and characterisation of holmes and watson, but nevertheless the plot in this one is sublime !!

This game, while dated, is incredible in so many ways, sure the narrative can be a little confusing, but I've found it to be quite entertaining. The devs genuinely made this with a lot of passion, would definitely recommend playing through. It can be tough, but it's fun to explore and play.

Absolutely horrible controls and overall fluidity. A lot of the times it is not clear what the objective is, especially if you pick up where you left off after a break. The lore, story, and voice acting are pretty good though. Recommended for SH fans but not for casuals.

One of the better Sherlock Holmes games. Not as impossible as the Silver earring one!

Frogwares really made use the current gen of gaming at that time in making this one so completely different and better from the previous installments. The movement is improved with complete 3D, better dialogues, engaging investigations with puzzles and the deductions are great even though they reduced usage of deduction board from last game. The story is one of the best, as it should be. The premise is Sherlock Homes is being framed and we all know he isn't the bad guy ofc but the story managed to put doubt even in ourselves. When you think "oh now that's the twist", they hit you with another.
