A quick announcement from Team Kismet:
Since releasing Kismet as a VR title, we have been extremely grateful to receive such a positive response. However, because there are so many more PC owners out there in the world who are still yet to adopt VR, we wanted to find a way to get Kismet to them as well. For that reason, we have added in a third launch option, in addition to HTC Vive and Oculus Rift -- a new non-VR version. We have also dropped the price and added subtitles for English, French, Spanish, German and Japanese. (VR versions will also now feature these subtitles.)
The below description is still accurate to the game, and anyone on Steam who has purchased Kismet in the past or purchases it in the future will have access to the VR and non-VR versions.

Put on your Oculus Rift or HTC Vive headset and take part in a first-of-its-kind VR experience: Kismet. Developed by award-winning creative studio Psyop, Kismet is a collection of three activities, including a past-present-future Tarot Card reading (“The Cards”), daily Astrology session (“The Stars”), and ancient boardgame Ur (“A Game of Wit”).Powered by a deck of 22 hand-painted Tarot cards and an accurate real-time map of the solar system, Kismet is meant to be experienced daily, with unique outcomes that are directly tied to not only the cards that you choose, but your birthday and the actual alignment of celestial bodies at the time of your reading. Seated across a table from an enchanted automaton with the power to look into the future, you’ll be transported to a place where magic is real, brought to life in a beautifully detailed, handmade, Gothic style.
Attention Oculus Rift Users:
Kismet is available in two versions, one for Vive and one for Rift. To launch the Rift version, you need to find the game in your Library, right click it, and launch it in the "Other VR" mode (as opposed to Vive mode). If you accidentally launch Vive mode, such as through an icon created during the game's Steam installation process, the game will be unable to find your Xbox controller.Attention HTC Vive Users:
Because Kismet is a sitting experience in a room scale environment, we recommend that you find a comfortable place to sit down and then reset your seated position at that point. To do that on the Vive, push the bottom button on your motion controller to bring up the Steam menu, aim at the Settings cog at the bottom of the menu, pull the trigger, and select "Reset Seated Position" from the General VR Settings menu. After that, you can move your head around to inspect the details of the environment and take advantage of positional audio within the experience.- Kismet is designed to work with each individual headset's bundled controllers. On Vive it is compatible with motion control, on Rift it is compatible with Microsoft Xbox One gamepad.
- Kismet has multiple graphics quality settings which are bound to the keyboard. The Lowest quality setting is mapped to the "1" key, Medium is set to "2", and the High graphics setting is mapped to "3". Kismet's default render quality is set to "2" Medium, and will run on minimum specification hardware. If your machine is more powerful than minimum specifications, try bumping up to the next rendering level!

I love Kismet but it doesn't work with my Quest2 like it did with my Rift CV-1! FIX PLEASE! MUCH SADDNESS!
I love the atmosphere of Kismet and honestly find the tarot readings to be consistently insightful in regards to the circumstances in my life I occasionally consult it casually for.
Really great VR experience to show friends. As a tarot reader, I find her readings simple, but enjoyable and valuable. The Astrological bit is cool but not very useful. Playing the game of UR with Kismet is a pleasure, makes me want to get a nice UR game set.
A pleasant distraction. Short and with high production values. As accurate as human psychics at a fraction of the cost - and with zero chance of fraud. Game of Ur minigame is historically interesting and worth a play.

Kismet is a fortune teller that gives tarot and astrology readings.
With the tarot reading you'll have to think about your question and then pick 3 cards.
The first card is about your past, the second about the present and the third about the future.
Kismet explains the meaning of your chosen cards and gives you some advice.
With the astrology reading you'll have to enter your day of birth, and Kismet will tell you more about your birth sign.
At the end she will give you a fortune card with a daily changing quote or a wise lesson to be learned.
This is also the reason why I wanted to buy this “game” because I love quotes and I was curious what Kismet had to say.
If you finished all the readings but like to hangout a little longer, there is also “a game of wit” that you both can play.
I've never seen that game before but apparently it's a board game called: Royal game of ur.
The game is fun and challenging because Kismet is pretty good at it.
The animated tarot cards look beautiful and Kismet looks like a unique and mysterious creature.
The atmosphere is executed perfectly, it sucked me right in and it reminded me of the time I had a reading in real life which was in a cabin just like this one. (Sadly it was less magical)
I must admit, the tarot readings weren't accurate, but I still enjoyed it.
I also found out that Kismet means fate/destiny, which sounded so thought through and awesome to me, that I just had to share it.
Really neat little game. Would love to see some DLCs, possibly... each one could add to each section, maybe moon sign and rising sign to the astrology part, the suits of the minor arcana to the tarot part, other games from ancient cultures to the game part. This game is beautiful to look at, gives actual authentic understandings of the tarot and astrology, would love to see more like this.
I've been using tarot for a good few years, so this is up my alley. The visuals and VO all help to sell the illusion. Unlike most fortunetellers, it's cheap!

Anyone who like horoscopes will enjoy this a lot
Well worth the price. Looking up my horoscope online or in the paper sounds boring. But receiving it while in the back of a witch puppet's caravan? There's just something so authentic about that. Hoping to see them surprise us with more features in the future. Basic voice commands would make this even better.
I dont think its worth the asking price. The experience is shallow and you wont come back for more.
Pros:
+ the level artdesign, the character and cards are beautiful
+ the voice-acting is great
+ there is a boardgame
+ its unique, they tried something different, which is great
Cons:
- you cant interact with anything, ripping you right out of the experience, there is a cat right beside you and it doesnt even move or react when you shove your hand right into it
- the only good thing the game has to offer is a little board game, but its just a slight variation of the boardgame Sorry
- the fortune telling is not good, as its way too generic and I know that fortune telling itself is held generic, but here it takes it a step further. It asks you to ask questions on past, present and future, then you get your cards. Your answers will almost always make no sense in context of your questions.
- the same goes for asking the stars, where you can ask a question in your mind, like: Am I going to stay healthy this year? I got my answer and it was: You are going to meet the love of your life (not word for word).......

Look at all the positive reviews that say its a fantastic experience, they all barely played an hour at max and never came back to it. And this game is designed to tell you your fortune daily.
Its shallow in a sense. But now that the price has been lowered, its maybe worth a look at, just know that its not a packed game and more a one evening experience.
very cool game, slightly steep price for the amount of content, but thats to be expected at this stage of the game in VR. Can't help but get exited for a trading card game like magic the gathering with the visals kismet uses for tarrot cards. reccomended, but wait for a sale
Honestly I've only played with this a little, and it's been largely ignored since then. I had expected that you would get a new astrological reading daily, but when it appeared that wasn't the case, the game fell by the wayside. Hopefully the devs add more content. That said, I still recommend it because it is so well polished and nicely put together. It's quant and good for demoing.
I purchased Kismet based on a few criteria: a) the fact that I had not yet made room for full room-scale experience and the game offered a seated experience; b) it has an excellent price point; and c) I am a fan of card-reading and Tarot.
When the game begins, you're seated at a table inside what appears to be a "gypsy trailer", its interior extremely ornate and attention to detail basically everywhere you look. I enjoyed looking around at all the various objects (I don't recall finding any I could pick up or move), including the cat sleeping up on the bench.
I have only tried two of the three experiences, mainly the game you play against the fortune teller which reminded me of a twist on "backgammon". For that, you're whisked away to a "desert-like" scene. The backgrounds for this game are beautiful and it's just a joy to take in the scenery.
What I found really mind-blowing was the 3D animation and effects on various cards during the Tarot reading. Even more so when you pick up and examine the cards afterward. Simply an awesome effect and the developer was kind enough to share how they did this on their blog.
This is definitely a game to get if you want to show off your HMD to your friends and family.
You might not believe in astrology or tarot cards, but who doesn't enjoy a bit of mystic mumbo-jumbo really ?
Kismet is basically an interaction with an ethereal gypsy fortune teller. She will read your horoscope or your tarot. You can also play some traditional board games with her. It is a relaxing and meditative experience. You won't put many hours into it, but you may come back to it from time to time for a bit of spiritual guidance.
Some clarifications first : I do not believe in astrology. I hold a similar opinion about tarot as expressed in this thread : http://steamcommunity.com/app/463290/discussions/0/364040797995587848/. I play Kismet on a Vive.
I enjoyed Kismet. It is a quirky experience with some awesome arts, great voice acting and tons of character.
Sadly the AI is pretty bad at the dice game (won on my first attempt, and despite Kismet's opinion, she wasn't even close.).
Additionally, the experience is slightly sub-par on the Vive, as there are practically no interactive elements. I want to pet the cat, I want to be able to manipulate stuff in Kismet's cabin. That's why the Vive comes with the wands! There is none of that, as the game seems to have been aimed primarily at Oculus Rift owners. That's too bad, as the wonderfully detailled environment really scream to be interacted with.
That being said, it is definitely worth buying (and not asking a refund just because it is more of a one-shot experience! Devs need to eat too, and there is obviously a *lot* of work that went into making Kismet), and if just to give your hippy neighbour who hates shooting robots something she will be entranced with in VR :)
tl;dr : could be at a slightly lower price point for the Vive, as it doesn't take advantage of the wands at all, but overall a good buy!
Really nice experience when you mind that you most likely to have to recalibrate your current seating position by holding down the system button for some seconds and then select "reset seated position" when using the Vive. Otherwise you might end up floating above your next personal fortune teller.
great little game my other half wished it was a bigger game as she was very impressed, we like the idea and the star readings are fantastic, the caravan little secrets are so detailed same with the cards, Maybe kismet could be expanded on with her showing you the other side world etc, not sure if that would go to far but would extend game play
This game is beautiful and convincing. I know its just purely entertainment but the immersion will blow you away and its worth the price. I also agree with another reviewer...I wish I could pet the kitty!! She's so adorable and lifelike.
In all honesty, this is one of my favorite VR experience so far.
I really quite liked this as a virtual experience. It delves you into a different place and it is very well put together. It is a short experience but quite well done, it is definitely on the list that I would show to people who wanted to see VR. It takes advantage of the medium really quite well. The only thing I would change is what is outside the cart windows everything else is so beautiful it seems out of place.
basically some of the highest production values out there for VR; incredible card art, characters, animation, lighting and environments. worth checking out as a tech demo even if you aren't into tarot.
I plan on coming back frequently for my daily readings...
