I am really sorry but I just cannot get myself to like this game...
Probably lots of effort was put into it but it just doesn't measure up.
I am usually a fan of the childhood friend / flame trope but I feel like it wasn't done it justice in this 20 minute short story. You play as Ben who has to fly to America for his business trip where he runs into his old schoolfriend / crush.
THe setting itself is okay but felt extremly generic and kinda boring for a short story. I am sure this is a very beautiful place in real life but the back drops just don't capture that vibe, it feels just very run down?
The art sprites are very beautiful but just don't fit the setting at all in my opinion. The voice actress for Diane was okay and fitted the vibe of the sprite. But the voice actor of Bens colleuge felt like he was just reading from the script for the first time?
Same for Taras voice actress. While I found her voice cool it just didn't fit the sprite at all and the voice acting really could use some improving...sorry :/
The love story between these two is never explored. You get to know how they met which felt very unexciting and there is another flashback where they part. Tara is very upset and telling her that you feel just as sad will get you minus points? Also the scenes opens with a "but why didn't you tell me", but when you are thrown into the flashback you have zero background or context what their relationship was like. The characters are both very bland and there is nothing that makes the reader care about theses on a deeper level.
I also am not a fan of this whole "maniac pixie dream girl is trapped in marriage and wants to be saved by generic love interest who just runs away with her" spiel. Because these 2 haven't spoken nor seen each other in 10 years. People don't stay exactly the same within 10 years. That is just not realistic.
I kinda wish you would see them interact as teens more, why did Ben think she is the love of her life? All info we got is: she is an American, pretty girl that has a briefcase that holds sentimental value and is "Not like the others" (which is also a trope I am so tired of seeing.). There is literally 0 emotional connection.
Also choosing rational decisions like "I did not want to take advantage of your emotional state" and "lets pay half/half" makes her somehow upset?? How?? I genuienly don't get it.
It is also super weird that she goes into these heavy topics within meating her old friend she hasn't seen in 10 years and if you do everything "correctly" you can just be on your merry way of running away of her, even you literally met her only a few hours ago after 10 YEARS! What?
I also feel like the game description doesn't exactly fit, as you don't fix any past mistakes. There is no time travel which I initally sort of assumed. But more over; until meeting Tara again, Ben never expresses any guilt or sorrow about what happend. He was never like: Damn. I still can't stop thinking about her, even after 10 years. I feel like a fool, but I wish I would just see her again (or anything like that). He also never really expresses anything the like towards her.
I also tried some of the different ways and I gotta say nothing really changes expect for 1 or 2 lines and well if this woman ends up with you or not.
Also the saving feature didn't work for me, the screen is stuck and the skip button also doesn't seem to do anything. But I gotta say it is cool that they at least tried to implement it.
And I am also really terribly sorry but the credits were hard to listen too... The lyrics and song itself are alright but the singer sometimes went really off-key.
All in all it has got some potential but it wasn't really well implemented... I am very sorry.
Bland story with little depth.
The skip function is a pain in the proverbial, as there's no option to skip only previously read text. Although, the choices only seem to affect one or two lines of dialogue anyway, so I wasn't missing much.
My biggest gripe, and the reason why I'm bothering to write a review at all, is the closing credits song. You cannot skip it, not without closing the game, and in order to get all the endings you have to play through multiple times, so you get to listen to the barely competent ballad sung by a vocalist who is not quite bad enough to be bad, but also not great either at least six times. It's going to haunt me for a while.
Really, no math at the table to simply go dutch? She is now ruled out as a path. Someone who can not do simple math is not attractive and as a women I am slightly offended.
There's nothing inherently wrong with the game, but this review is especially opinionated. The thing that physically affected me was fucking Tara, who is the main girl. I,...her outlook on life is fucky, like. She really plays the victim card and throws a lot of blame on the main character, which is stupid as hell. (SPOILER WARNING) She didn't have to stay married to a rich asshat douchecanoe. She knew what her feelings were, but didn't act on them, because women usually love to be chased and confessed to and keeping shit to themselves. Fucking right, ok, real cool. No, the only pass she gets is the things that were out of her control, like when she had to move to Hong Kong before she graduated and what not. Stop perpetuating whatever the hell people think how girls should be. They can be pursuers, pretty much overall, they have just as much complete control over their lives as anyone else. Her ideals weren't sweet to me, I considered them foolish, admittedly. Through the endings that I got, I accepted what I'd been shown, therefore, I stopped the whole "but it's for the story and completion" bullshit. There is an ending where the two characters end up together, reunited, it's destiny, yaaaaay, happy happy. No! Just, if it was real life, and if it were me, I'd have known enough about her to realize the boundaries and honestly, remain friends in the best case scenario. Sorry, there's no helping her. Personally, the 6th ending is the one I find to be most satisfying. You've met up after so long, you catch up, she confides in you, everything stays platonic and mutual, your business prevails, and there are no consequences or repercussions. Unless you count losing your chance to be with her, but the main character handles it extremely maturely and thinks matter-of-factly. It's not selfish, he's not an ass for rejecting her. Given the situation, he understands that it was just a fleeting high school crush, and that that opportunity had come and gone. Not everything works out perfectly in the end. Look, I know that becuase these are stories, they are allowed to ignore implications present in reality, but it was almost painful to watch some of this shit be carried out. Another point, yes, some of us read these for the very reason being that things can work out and make us hopeful about things, but I guess I'm just not detached enough from reality. Maybe my own experiences with love keep me grounded. To reiterate and to conclude, the visual novel is not a bad one per se, but more often than not, opinions heavily influence overall perception and reception. I am choosing not to recommend it, because I had an unpleasant experience. Y'all play it and think what you want, that's the beauty of things.
This is a cute little visual novel. There are six endings, some of which require you to be very skillful in your choices. You meet your former high school crush while trying to deal with a business deal that may or may not fall through. Through conversation with her you discover that things are a bit more complicated than they appear. In the end, will you win the girl? Keep your job? Make a fool of yourself?
There is nothing nice to say about this VN. I tried to think of something nice to say, but I just can't come up with anything.
Let's see ...
- Subpar writing
- Boring story plot
- Boring characters
- Poor story-telling methods for character development
- A lot of choices seem arbitrary in how they affect the ending(s)
- All playthroughs are alike with the exception of slight dialogue changes from different choices and the endings are just a paragraph epilogue
- Skip mode skips everything, not just read text
- The credits are particularly slow and seemingly unskippable
- The last achievement is glitched
- This is supposed to be a romance VN, but because the story doesn't get you to care about the characters, it doesn't elicit any kind of emotional reaction while reading
To be fair, I didn't play it with sound, so I suppose the music and voice acting might be okay, but even if it is, it wouldn't be enough to redeem itself.
This is a boring garbage fire.
So much wrong here It pains me.
From the stupid opening, the horrible VO work, the lazy art, the horrible story and the worst end credit ever.
I hated this VN.
Don't buy this. Run. Even if it's free, RUN.
Full review here, but don't bother. It just says more of the same. Get away from this steam store page. Hurry.

It's a bit odd to play an anime styled game without any japanese language spoken, not a single kanji or any sakura/fuji-san backgrounds seen in it. On the other hand the game is quite nice and pleasing. Tidy music and characters. Good job there.
Cons are (or "what i didn't like personaly"):
- can't scroll the text backwards, so be carefull not to miss it.
- no scene selection. (though you can't use it if you're into achievements)
- very odd choices you have to make to get differents endings
- you just have to add some easter eggs achievements into a game which is made in anime style, but EU
Else is alright. Fine. Great.
There are many options but whatever you choose it doesn't change anything except the ending. And the selection themselves are something like the following which seems to be no differentce at all.:
Alice: "I'm no happy today. Because balabala"
Bob's reply:
1. It sucks.
2. What a pity.
3. I'm sorry to hear that.
And you choose 3 so you get a good ending otherwise bad ending.
First, I must say that I loved the BGM (expect for the last song, I really disliked the vocals.. Sorry) and the art style. But the story and its characters… Err.
The story is really short and everything is so forced. Tara is an annoying character, and I couldn’t care less about her. The endings were also rushed. Oh, and there’s the VA; it was terrible. Like really, really bad. The text is also a pain to read; to be honest it’s almost unreadable. I don’t mind the Tyrano engine, I know it’s a very basic one and that’s ok. The problem here was the story, dialogue, and the choice of font colors.
2/10.
"You should throw that away!"
Terrible voice acting, cheap backgrounds, really boring story. Not worth it.
The fact that your choice of ocean-related pun has a direct impact on which ending you get should be incentive enough alone to buy this short, fun little VN.
While my VN reviews tend to focus on the story, that will not be the case with One Last Chance. That's because the story is really simple and the characters are nice, but it's nothing out of the ordinary. In fact, what stands out about this game is its execution. On the bright side, art is pretty nice and the game has full voice acting (...well, almost. Except for the protag), which is a pleasant surprise for English VNs.
On the other hand, however... dialogue tends to be the same regardless of what option you pick, which makes it a little hard to know what direction you're going towards until you finally reach the end. You'll probably need to check a guide to finish it. The fact that dialogue is so repetitive and the only thing that changes is the ending makes it a little tiring and boring to replay in order to get the different endings/achievements. It is also very, very short (I have nearly 3 hours on it because it took me a while to figure out 3 of the endings, since the only guide on Steam didn't work on those for me, but my first playthrough took only about 30 minutes), so while it is definitely not expensive, it is still a little pricey considering what you get.
If possible, I recommend you get it on sale. One Last Chance is a nice little visual novel, but that's as far as it goes given its ordinary story and execution issues. 6/10
A short Visual Novel that would make you think on what could've happened with your high school crush. It answers questions that you wanted to ask, but never got the chance to answer. What if you got another chance? What would you do if you saw your high school crush? Would you want to tell them that you loved them?
A short VN with a plot grounded on reality. It's more than just a story of a man rekindling his love for his long-lost childhood friend; it's also a simple reminder that in the midst of the complications of the modern adult world, we can always go back to simpler times and rediscover ourselves.
And yes, I will support any VN with English voice acting.
The Scottish referendum voted to stay
Britain votes to leave the EU even though Scotland wanted to stay.
Ben Campbell goes to Martha's Vineyard to save his dying company.
When will this poor Scot catch a break?
A delightful story of lost love and the chance to make it all right again. The character drawings, voicing and music really gives dimension to the each character. what let's it down a little bit is the basic interface.
this game only has one story line. It is very boring, and when it says 7 different endings, its not really what you pick half the time that influences the outcome. No matter what dialogue you pick, it ends up being the same dialogue, there is nothing fun about this game. I honestly expected a better game 0/10, definately do not buy, go find another game.
Not many VN’s like this one, surprisingly thoughtful with excellent writing. I guess it can’t be helped if stupid weeaboos who enjoy cookie cutter plots and waifus don’t appreciate it though. I enjoyed how realistic it was, though the game does get a bit political at times and I can see why that may offend some. Fortunately it agreed with my political views, so I’m happy!
“One Last Chance” is a very short visual novel, 30-40 minutes for a single playthrough assuming you listen to all the voiceover. There are 6 possible endings though, so there is definitely replay value for you adventure hunters out there. Personally, I liked it, the art style was nice, the music was gorgeous and I felt the voice acting really gave it a more human touch.
It may not be for everyone as it’s clean (no sexual content) and is surprisingly deep at times (the tone is light at the beginning but becomes a bit heavier as the story progresses).
Recommended 7 out of 10
No. Just NO. Too many problems with this, the first being the ridiculous audio settings.. The first problem is the audio. Unless you turn the music all the way down to 0%, the music is way too loud compared to the voice volume, even if you max out the voice. Ugh.
Watch my "Let's Play" and Review of this game right here:

The second problem is the voice acting is terrible. When you hear a totally fake cry, it just comes off really cheesy.
But my main problem with this game is the super simple, forced plot that doesn't make you feel anything or care about the character(s) in the story. It's a rushed, super cheesy plot and just feels "wrong" and "rushed" in every way.
The game was left running accidently while I was afk after I completed the whole game, and one play through the game will likely take you somewhere between 30 and 45 minutes. It's not a long virtual novel at all.
There's no excuse for a visual novel like this that they ask any amount of money for feeling so shallow and "rushed". To compare, the visual novel "The Sad Story of Emmeline Burns" is FREE right here on Steam, and is about ten times better then this game.
1 out of 10. Not Recommended.
