Wow! What a great little game we have here! The story takes off very interestingly, but still feels like a true adventure classic. Interface is perfect, graphics are awesome and even the voices are really well done. Grammar is good, puzzles feel right and... well, yeah. Money well used here!
The first and only chapter in a now-cancelled series of comedic point&click adventure games.
Isn't episodic gaming just the best?
I loved the game and really hope for a part 2. The songs weren't bad either!
pros
+ hand drawn, cartoony and colourful background graphics and characters
+ diverse cast of wacky characters
+ there are a few catchy musical pieces well sung by the characters
+ great soundtrack
+ easy puzzles (if you don't want to challenge)
+ two playable characters
+ decent voice overs
cons
- game short and episodic. it s concluded with an cliffhanger
- there are no steam achievements and cards
- story childish and i think it appeals to more children
This game combines old-style musical features with a classic puzzle adventure game. If you like this kind of thing, you will probably love this game too.
nice graphics, very good voices, moderate difficulty butttttt very short... waiting for chapter 2..
Very unusual to have a point and click adventure game that actually has multiple songs sung by the characters, which is the novelty that drew me to try this game out. It works well in the context and the whole game gives me a feel of watching a stage play. The background graphics are nicely drawn and detailed even if they feel a little flat. The story and characters are charming, and the puzzles aren't overly taxing, but make sense in the confines of the game world. I quite like the sense of humor in the writing and would often do things that I knew wouldn't actually help me progress just to see what kind of response the game would give me.
I was saddened to hear that further chapters have been shelved and would actually support a Kickstarter campaign if that would help the creators make them. Even if that never happens, you could do far worse than spend a few bucks on this charming little adventure, even if it's just this chapter, it's well worth the price.
Witty and funny. Puzzles to solve and music mixed with the game.
wow :) this was such a nice game. I m sorry they won t be making the next in the series. Really hope they change their minds this was really nice. I liked everything, the story, the jokes, the funny allusions to various flaws of all the characters. the graphics, the puzzles, the songs everything :( now we'll never know how this ends :(, however I can say that this as a standalone game has a satisfying storyline of its own. I highly recommend it, for me it really had that monkey island feel but in a unique way.
I thought this game was very creative and original. Enjoyed playing it. Songs were awesome. I'm sad to hear that sequels have been halted indefinitely. Really hope I get the opportunity to play more
This turned out to be a better adventure than i expected. It follows the now very familiar trope of a slob in the present day getting sucked into a fantasy world to become a reluctant hero, but instead of being grating the main character is surprisingly endearing. The graphics are great and there is lots of fun dialog that the actors deliver well. The puzzles aren't too difficult, and everything just feels really tight and well executed.
The highlight for me was the two or three moments in the game where all the characters break into song. Although other adventure games have some great songs in them (Deponia, Kentucky Route Zero) this one mixes it up a little by letting you pick your own lines. It's a fun way to add a bit of interactivity and makes me wonder how an adventure that was 100% presented as a musical would work. I guess that would have cost way too much cash to make. As it is, just a light musical theater twist on the usual adventure game formula makes this a very enjoyable romp. I look forward to part two.
The game is really beautiful and funny, although there are not many puzzles to solve. Also, the story is incomplete and I'm worried that the developers may not create the other chapters, since there's no word from them, so keep that in mind before buying this game. This game is a really good effort nevertheless.
One of my favorite point 'n click adventure games! The music is beautiful, the puzzles appropriately intriguing, and the game play straightforward and fun!
Logical puzzles with funny dialogue, and all objects multi-described. Great fun. Can't wait for the next chapters.
I'm a huge adventure game fan. I typically only play adventure games and their ilk. This one is short but it's time well spent. :-)
A nice little point and click game. one minor obscure object annoyance, but other than that a solid game and I will be purchasing the other 2 episodes.
I loved this game, a bit short but none the less a fun game
Okay, so I missed the part that this was a musical when I bought this. I'm playing along and all of a sudden the characters burst into song. YIKES! Then ... hey, this is actually good. I mean, really good. Not only were the voice actors very talented singers, but the music and lyrics were fun and creative. As a player, you get to choose the verses. There are only three songs in a chapter that took me 5 hours to play, so if the musical thing is scaring potential players, know that the songs are well interspersed and again, very well done. In my opinion, it adds to the game and not distracts and fits the story.
This game was well written, full of lots of humorous dialogue in the style of classic adventure games. There isn't one negative thing I can say about this game. All aspects of it were creative and so much fun. This game was well worth the price for my play time and I absolutely cannot wait for Chapter II. Hope it will be soon...
Good snarky fun with interesting puzzles and a delightful aesthetic.
This is a pretty good throwback to the adventure games of the late 90s. It has the same absurd, dry sense of humor and aesthetics. The puzzles are challenging but not frustratingly difficult. The art is a little more low-res than we're used to in 2017, but the detail is great and it's modern enough that it only hints at earlier times without being painful to look at. All the characters are voiced - there's an option to click through the dialog, but the quality of the voice acting will make you want to sit through it. Then there's a thing where the characters break into song occasionally and the player gets to choose what they sing, which is really cool, but this is an adventure game and the pacing of it keeps it from feeling much like a musical. All in all, it's a fun way to spend a few hours and my only complaint is that it only lasts a few hours.
I just finished the first chapter of Midnight at the Celestial Palace yesterday. If you like music, story, magic, and adventure, this is quite possibly one of the greatest games to ever get made. The only thing that might leave you disappointed is the fact that it isn't longer. This game has not even been out for a week yet, but I am already feeling desperation for chapter II. The puzzles are simple as far as adventure games go, but it's the journey that truly carries this game. This is something that can be enjoyed by anyone, both avid adventure game players as well as casual gamers of any age.
I just bought it and had several heavy laughs already at the beginning. This is so sweet and great :D JUST AWESOME!! You love classic Adventure Games? Then go and buy it. You won't regret! :)
