Love story centered around Zoe, a female protagonist who divorces her current husband and has to restart her life anew.
A female protagonist a nice change of pace in a sea of love/harem men-centered novels.
Character art is simplistic, a little too much for my liking. Backgrounds are of better quality than character sprites. Very few face expression variety and no CGs, so if you are buying this you are buying mainly for the story.
I like the general plot, but the writing is often too blunt, simplistic and direct to the point, and the story overall bland with few notable moments.
Many choices available, and multiple endings/partners. But given how short the story is, they can all be achieved in a few hours.
There is a mini game included, easy and fun to play, though not really related to anything discussed in the novel.
Music is ok to hear and gives the novel some vibe, but overall is bland and generic. No voice acting included.
The price is fairly low, but given the shortcomings, I still think the pricing is on the expensive side. Wait for a sale.
In summary, good for a very quick read, I like the concept, but needs quite some polishing up. 5/10
The characters were shallow, and the dialogue underdeveloped. It is difficult to relate to, or even sympathise with the main character - she is presented as quite immature.
The entire storyline happens within a week and a half - that is, from a divorce to finding what was presumably a "life partner" - which felt extremely rushed.
The minigame is annoying and a severe roadblock. The skip is not well done, you can skip past read parts and I don't like that. The Plot has not Plot, that's not cool.
This game was so disappointingly bad that I had to write a review about it. I was really hoping it would surprise me, but it really didn't. It just bored me. This isn't "fun bad" or "so bad its good." This is just bad.
- All of the dialouge in this game is mundane and boring. Would you like to hear small talk for around an hour? No? Well that's what you'll get from this game, so buckle up!
- Every character is either written poorly or do things that make no sense. Characters either bore you to death, talk about one subject and only one subject, and/or have no unique voice. The fact that your assistant tells you all about his dating preferences and how he likes "cougars" even if you don't follow his route is both stupid and highly inappropriate. If you don't follow his route, that comment just comes out of nowhere. Also, the fact you get a divorce from your husband just because he gets a job opportunity in Norway is just silly. It also makes, like, 90% of the dialouge at the beginning of the game super boring because all anyone talks about is the divorce.
- It feels like characters have bad things happen to them out of nowhere. I'm not sure why Michael has to die if you lead him on. It adds nothing to the story and comes straight out of left field. I just don't get it.
- The mini-game is pointless and lazy. There are no instructions. There is no fail-state. The game is pretty minimally animated, and there's a jarring transition going into and out of the game. I love a good match-3, and I love when VNs have some actual gameplay mechanics, but this changes nothing. There's no point in it being in the game.
Honestly, this is not a good game. Just don't waste your time with it. Seriously.
This game is really interesting becuase it offers a literal buffet of choices and paths. Although I can appreciate the freedom of choice, I didn't end up sticking with this one. This game can probably work for others, but the pacing was too fast, and keeping up with all the choices was difficult and chaotic. I still recommend the game since all of the endings do provide a sense of completion. Please if others can enjoy this game, tell me what I'm missing.
This is an interesting game. The backgrounds are beautiful, there are cutscenes which show real locations (or close enough), and the plot is... different. The main difference is that the protagonist is a woman who may have fallen out of love with her husband, and gets a divorce (I think two of the endings does not involve that plot point).
There are seven endings in total, so find your own way through love, work, and everything else!
There is a Match-3 element, but it is rather simple (and does not have the limiting factor in True Lover's Knot, which I believe is another VN created by this company).
Huh. I didn't realize that this game started out with the protagonist already married to one of the love interests. That cut down on my options a bit - basically to just the one route, which lasted about five minutes. I'm a little bummed that I paid full price and didn't get much story, but what I did experience was very enjoyable!
A good improvement compared to the previous titles released by these developers. The art style is simple, and the only thing that bothered me was the lack of expressions on the characters (they usually have all the same face, sometimes it might change just a bit). But that’s a pet peeve of mine, maybe other people won’t see this as a flaw.
The soundtrack is really good. It was what made me buy this game at first!
Also, this is probably the longest game by these devs. It didn’t felt rushed, the routes were more elaborated and the characters were more likable. Get it on a good sale!
5/10.
I like the amount of choices in this game. Pretty cool and different story. I also like the music.
I really wanted to say I liked this visual novel but it just can't. The story to me was just too bland and the choices were almost always picking between two extremes. Maybe it was also weird because you play as a 30 something year old woman, or I went down a bad path but this game was definitely not for me.
+ Liked the inclusion of the match 3 mini-game (though what it has to do with interior design really is a mystery)
+ Unusual setting for a VN
+ I liked the inclusion of a f/f route
+ Variety of characters with unique backgrounds
- Very short (I completed all endings in 57 minutes and the rest of the playtime is idling for cards)
- Boring story (you don't really do much aside from go out to eat and go to work)
- Characters don't really seem different to each other voice-wise and you don't actually get to interact with them much
- There's one part that plays a lengthy audio clip of spoken dialogue with no subtitles
I've bought this game based solely on the reviews and oh boy I believe it's worth it only if one buys it on like 50% sale. It starts really nice and the quality of writing is pretty great and it was really interesting up till the endings. Those are too abrupt. This game feels like it should be at least twice the current size. I hit 100% completion in just 3 hours.
Overall I liked the writing but I really didn't like how half-baked the story felt. However it's an indie game and the base price is not too steep and I believe I shouldn't judge it too harshly. So it's a recommendation bearing in mind its shortness. Buy it on sale.
I liked this game. The characters were likeable and the general plot kept me reading it. It had lots and lots of options and paths, and I liked that a lot. In terms of density of choices (as in how many choices for x amount of lines) it had quite a high amount!
I really enjoy this game, but it keeps freezing at the part where she's home by herself looking for someone to hang out with. It says the line of diolauge then does not continue, i've tried restarting the game and trying to play it from my saves but it ALWAYS stops there. I really want to keep playing it but it won't let me. Get this fixed soon please!! It has an awesome and interesting story line with different characters. I don't like how she starts off married though...
Felt like a cast member on the OC… or a white Tyler Perry movie, your choice.
Would be a white Tyler Perry cast member again.
Do i love it.. not really. But it demonstrates the regrets you have when you make a choice to take one path in life instead of another. Can you redeem yourself? I found in this game you aren't automatically pigeon holed into a story direction, which was not what i was expecting. There are some common options and settings which were missing, which is fine. There is however no auto read function which makes getting all the endings a bit tiresome. Well.. can Love in the Glen redeem itself.. I would say what it loses in in its artwork it makes up for with earnest storylines.
- There are no in-game design activities or blueprints; want to play with interior design? Sorry.
+ Note, the store page was updated to make this clear. Now, game does what is advertised.
- The "cute and charming" minigame is poorly programmed.
- This game is pretty bad.
Only a handful of visual novels have made me cry before: Clannad & Planetarian. Now I must add this game to the list. At the beginning it seems very lighthearted but depending on your choices you can end up with a very serious story. This is what happened to me and at the end I felt kinda heavy at the end. I know for some that may be a bad thing for some but it’s what I look for in a VN, an emotional response. I liked it; I may try to go for one of the different endings in the near future if I have time.
Boring story line and you can't change the settings of your name, or even the volume or text speed. An absolute wasteof money.
Pros:
- Good writing
- Interesting story
- Many endings
- Choices DO matter
- Great music
- Fun mini-game
Cons:
- Character sprites are a bit crap
- Styling could be better.
- A bit short (but then again you do get 7 endings)
- Some of the button placements are a bit weird.
This was a very surprising VN. “Love in the Glen” is about an interior designer called “Zoe Richardson”, who the player controls. Like most visual novels, you go through the story making choices and decisions for her and then watch her destiny unfold in front of your very eyes. In that sense there is nothing new and it’s what you’d expect from a Visual Novel. Not that that’s a bad thing, if you buy a chocolate cake you do expect it to taste like chocolate, do you not?
The surprising thing about it is the storyline. It really doesn’t feel very anime at all. Which does come as a surprise as one does expect a VN to somewhat have an anime feel (remember my chocolate cake reference? Well that applies here too). That being said, it’s not a bad story, the writing is actually pretty damn good. Granted there are some odd moments where you get a surprisingly short storyline, if you embark on one of the long ones you’ll definitely get your money’s worth. Especially if you’re like me and have already read many VN’s and are looking for something different. If you haven’t ever played a VN before then I wouldn’t recommend this game as it is in so many ways not like other VN’s and you might get the wrong impression of the genre.
Other aspects of the VN were rather good too. I liked the cute little mini game and the music was always very nice and fitted the mood really well. Of course it had it’s weak points too, there are no game settings and there are some bits in the story that felt a bit odd.
All in all a good VN with an entertaining story! Chocolate cake!
TL;DR A good all-round VN but rather different to most. I wouldn’t recommend this to someone as his or her first Visual Novel, but for anyone who happens to like them, this is a must-have.
