This will be a total of only 30 minutes of gameplay. It is really well done, and it was worth doing and recommend it! Nice horror element, make sure your are into that before getting this. The biggest negative is that I got nauseous from playing it. It would do it over, just to experience the game.
5/10 - Mix Bag
For a 2016 title, it holds up still in 2024
About 40 min Mind Ride & mini mine ride.
Good,
the visuals are nice, good enough Sound FX
Sudden switch to a mine shooting ride to a scary escape.
Works well with Quest 3, with Virtual Desktop Streamer
Bad,
Mostly Jump Scares,
Too often. rats, bats, mice. with scare noise,
Soon you just walk by, missing the scare.
Ugly,
Way too dark sometimes, even with flashlights.
A bit nausea inducing movement.
Once done, no replay value,
Short enough, maybe for guests to show VR.
Overall, buy only at Sale.
This was fun! It holds up incredibly well for a 2016 release, and definitely does a nice job of nailing that "in a mine / cavern" feel very well. Nice & atmospheric, and is a fun little adventure.
To be honest!
It's a crazy good game!
Yes... it's a bit old and some motionness.
But gameplay and shooting and horror are there!
If you are new in VR world... and senstive for motionsickness..
I wil say wait a bit when you are ready and to handel that.
but if you do! and love horror!
This is very good one!
(I do hope there going to update/remale it
Fun 30-45 minute adventure for th $10! Will have you jumping and screaming, then howling at your friends when you watch them play There is even a second mini experience you can play after..
Warning to those who get motion sick, there are def. a few spots that have some motion issues, even for myself who considers himself pretty VR experienced. Also, while there appears to be a way to change what type of controller/headshet you are using, it doesn't seem to work (at least it didn't for me. I am on a Quest 2 and the controls being defaulted to a Vive setup makes it just a touch odd. Nothing that can't be worked around, but worth mentioning.
Very fun little game, just like those types of rides you get in a real amusement park. Couple of problems however, the sound effects in the game are insanely loud and they do a lot of the same jumpscares over and over again which gets a bit old especially since they use the same sound effects but yeah other than that its pretty good. 8/10
It's at Great VR horror game, with an interesting story.
Played On: HTC Vive
Welcome to Ghost Town Mine Ride & Shootin' Gallery, the 25-45 minute experience that takes you on a hellish ride and stroll through an abandoned and decrepit tourist attraction. First discovered in 1851, the Black Rock Mine was converted to this wacky tourist attraction in the 1950's, and after a string of accidents, disappearances, and deaths, it closed its doors in the 1990's. Armed simply with a flashlight and a six-shooter, your goal is to make it out of the mine alive, all the while a crazed murderer is lurking around in the pitch blackness, traps are primed and ready to gut you, and your unstable surroundings are constantly threatening to cave in.
The adventure begins with some pretty underwhelming on-rails mine cart action, with players shooting at stagnant targets while dodging some obstacles, but things get pretty crazy fairly quickly from thereon out. For the sake of not spoiling the fun, let's just say that this seemingly on-rails shooter soon goes off the rails and leaves you completely and utterly alone in the deep, dark, narrow, crumbling caverns of the Black Rock Mine. All the while you're being hunted down by something, or someone, who will stop at nothing to end your life.
As far as VR horror goes, Ghost Town Mine Ride & Shootin' Gallery is a really unique release. It's filled with cheap, campy scares that somehow manage to be effective over and over again. It shares a lot of similarities with any given '80s slasher flick, but most notably My Bloody Valentine. You're pretty much guaranteed to go into a full-on sweat as your blood runs cold and that ever-familiar chill creeps up your spine. The dark, claustrophobic atmosphere only enhances the tension and dread that you'll be feeling while peeking around every corner and dodging every out-of-the-blue thrown axe that comes at your face from the darkness beyond. Aside from the barrage of scares, you'll also have to be cautious of the many traps laid out, waiting for you.
While most of this title is spot-on perfect in every way, it does have its share of problems. First and foremost, the really annoying and immersion-breaking "waiting for application to respond" issues; this is when Steam VR cuts back to its plateau loading screen between Home and the game that you're trying to play. This happens frequently, and just to make sure it wasn't my PC having some kind of one-off problem (i7-6700k with a GTX 1080, so it's not a standard problem) I did check the Community Hub and it seems to be a persistent issue since launch. The second biggest concern is the laser dot on the six-shooter that disappears when it's on an actual target. This is especially confusing if there are multiple targets in the same area; you just have no idea what you're aiming at.
Despite its technical shortcomings, Ghost Town Mine Ride & Shootin' Gallery is a fun and terrifying VR horror experience that any lovers of the genre should give a chance; especially if you have a soft spot for '80s slasher films. Aside from its main campaign, it also has a "miniature ride" that's a short rollercoaster ride where you can shoot stationary targets and glow-in-the-dark skulls (a staple of the main campaign, too) while enjoying a twisted take on a popular children's story. Those with sensitivity to flashing lights should not buy this title, however, since there are in-your-face strobe effects. Additionally, people that get motion sickness easily may find the mine cart ride portions to be unsettling, as they deal with a lot of fast twists and turns.
Rating: 4.0/5.0 - Excellent, highly worth playing.

I had so much campy fun playing this game/experience. I thought from the title, this was simply a wave shooter riding a mine cart. Part of this game is exactly that, however it's so much more than that. It's a cinematic, horror experience with both the mine cart part at the start, but then normal teleportation with use of the flashlight. Simply press trigger on the flashligt and you'll walk over in that direction.
The bad part of this game is that it does not run smoothly (i7, 16gb ram, 1060 GTX) and there were several hourglasses during gameplay where my rig was trying to catch up to the game. I found it weird because the graphics, were not exactly cutting edge.
However, what this game gets right is the atmosphere. Lots of jumpscares to be sure, but also lots of atmosphere and many things to draw your attention. It's fun just seeing what will be waiting for you around the corner. The experience is approximately 30 minutes and you'll definitely want to share this experience with friends and family. The content easily matches the current sale price of $6.74.
Rate 7/10 fun, campy, exhilirating, perfect for Halloween
Best value ever! Free roam, massive runaway train runs, drops off cliffs Zombies starting the shirt off me, endless jump scares. Shooting and ducking. Lots of potential for VR sickness but hell. .. it's a roller coaster meets zombie horror if it doesn't make you scared or feel ill what's the point. Walk on the spot if scrolling bothers you, but for the minekarts. just squint. or shut your eyes, lol.
This gets a 3/5 stars, let me explain.
I LIKE the game. But, there are two flaws that plague this game for me that ruin it, and I'm hoping the developers read this and update their game.
Saw this as a demo at Mid Summer Scream today, it just looked awsome and it was running on a Vive. I asked the guy at the booth would it run on an Oculus and he said yes with 3 sensors (Which I have, ceiling mounted, entire room mapped and guardian system) it would be fine.
So, after the horror con, I came home and bought this. Heck, 9 bucks, who can beat that! Then I played it and got frustrated within 2 minutes of the game and here is why.
1. You can't rotate your virtual self. -- There is a left thumbstick that is just waiting to be used for something. Right now, it's not used for anything. The only way you can move in this game is point the flashlight where you want to go, and pull the trigger. It'll start walking in that direction. This didn't cause me any discomfort as other walking games do, and I don't believe they need to add teleport. But rotating your virtual self while standing still is a MUST. It's tremendously annoying having to walk to one corner in the room just to get yourself turned around so you can center yourself somewhere else. With 3 sensors there can still be a minor dead spot and it comes back to bite you in this game. I'm seriously hoping the developers can add the ability for the left thumbstick to rotate your virtual self.
2. Gun bugs. -- I can't tell you how many times the gun would just "lock up"... ie it'll just freeze in mid air and not be useable for 20 or so seconds. Then it'll pop back in your hand. This is a huge bug and for a shooting game, where you can't shoot, well, you do the math.
So, 3 for effort but they need to add rotating with the thumbstick and fix the gun bugs on Oculus.
Note, every other game I have in the rift works completely fine, so, it's not my setup nor my hardware. These issues only affect this title.
Great little VR scare-factory. Tons of fun set pieces and the environment is perfect for a spooky, jump-filled time. Some might complain about the game's length (I pushed through in about 90 minutes) but there are collectibles and you can replay the game and try for zero deaths. It's also great to watch your friends jump in terror the first time and that **** is always priceless.
Be sure to check out the "Miniature Railroad" for a nightmarish kiddie-train ride.
Well worth the money.
Screw this game...It lulls you in with the state fair type shooting gallery. Midly creepy but good ole fashioned fun. Then you head over to the mine ride. You expect more of the same, and it is more of the same for the first minute or two.... First jump scare hits and you immediately crap in your pants. From then on your spinning like a damn top trying not let it happen again because youre out of clean underwear. 10/10 would shit my pants again.
(To be fair i havent finished it yet because I almost knocked my daughter over recoiling in terror, it could become shite after that. From what I saw though it was good stuff)
The VR sickness in this game is high, if you are remotely susceptible to VR sickness I would move along. Super neat jump scares and overall nifty gameplay but the hours of VR sickness afterwards is a major deterrent.
Absolutely phenomenal game. It reminds me of a Disney ride at the beginning, and then goes freaken bonkers. It's also not unnecessarily scary, instead gives you the right amount of scares at the right times. I haven't beaten it yet, but loved every minute of it so far. Can't wait to see what else the developers have in store.
Highly Recommended!
Only done one play through so far but was great ! i currently have around 70 VR games and played many more and this was one of my favorites so far , can see it getting a bit repeatetive after a while but i hope for some extra content or more from the same creators as i would definatly give it a go , well priced and polished experience only thing i think it could use is teleport movment as thats what im used to being a vive owner but pointing the flashlight in the direction u want to move and pressing the button worked ok didnt give me any motion sickness which other games do
OH MY GOD... I felt like I died for a good long while there. The experence feels a lot longer then it is. If it was any longer though, I wouldn't be able to handle it. Well done Spectral Illusions, you've made the most terrifying vr experence so far. And it runs great, and looks great, with zero judder even with reprojection off (rx480) I'm very impressed.

I assume like many people who bought a Vive early on, I've been a little jaded as of late with my purchase. Not completely unhappy as I've had some great experiences, but having seen the constant release of sub par or downright crap releases I've started to not even bother tryng most things.
I saw this after playing a similar title on my cousins Playstation VR and thought I'd give it a go. Am I glad I did so - YES I AM - it's actually nothing like the Playstation title, it just has the same premise. This experience took me right back to first time trying my Vive, that feeling of complete awe being engrossed in a VR world. From start to finish this experience was utterly brilliant! I'm usually not good with moving in VR without the teleport sytem, and although this title doesn't have it I didn't have a problem moving through the levels. Even in the fast moving parts I was to busy shouting f*ck that to be concerned about throwing up everywhere.
Shooting sometimes felt a little off, hard to describe really, but it just didn't feel I'd hit some of the targets, even though they responded to being hit. However thats just a little niggle in what was otherwise a fantastic experience. To the developers, you have given me renewed hope that VR can, and will be a great a platform for the future. To anybody who hasn't tried this yet, I recommend you buy this immediately. In my humble opinion it'll be like putting on your Vive for the first time all over again.
Unbelievable.
The one and only time I have ever had to get out of a film or game because it freaked me out too much.
Now I may have to accept the tag as being a wimp, but I've been out for a few minutes and I'm still freaked out.
This is a MUST BUY for HTC users. Period.
I played all the horror experiences on the Vive, and this was the first time I couldn't make it through on the first go.
Had a half-hour before a meeting, thought I'd give it a go...
11 minutes later in I'm crouching down, slapping the Vive menu button, yelling, "NOPE NOPE NOPE".
Great experience.
Big thunder mountain meets Halloween horror nights. Jesus Christ this game/experience is terrifying. It lasts about 30 minutes which seems short when you read it, but its "almost" too long for all of its scares. The sound is great and the ride portion is a wet dream for theme park lovers. This will be my go to horror showcase for the vive. A must buy experience if you have the nerve.
