The base game is great, a really nice conclusion to Sophia's story.

The bonus chapter, though... you have to put up with an incredibly annoying misbehaving child.

The graphics are hideously kitschy, and the story is weak, but apart from those this is actually a decent puzzle game. The bonus chapter is especially nice, and both the gameplay and the minigames are satisfyingly challenging.

This is Awakening #7, the final chapter of the story. There is actually also an Awakening #6, "Awakening Kingdoms", a free-to-play that is not on Steam and not required to play this. The next game, Awakening #8, is a prequel.

It is the best in the series in a long time, a back-to-basics casual adventure with a straightforward story and solid puzzles (no mouse-precision nonsense). It represents a nice summary of the entire adventure until now.

If you've felt let down by the series for a while this game may make you smile again.

The final game of the main Awakening series' story that focuses on Sophia. Like the other games, it has lovely artwork, soft music, and light puzzles.

I found the story to be pretty decent and a good conclusion. The bonus chapter, which takes place years afterward, was a bit long and tedious. It also had an issue with the final mini game where the rules changed on the final wave.

Overall, I enjoyed this game and recommend it for fans of this series or fans of hidden object games in general.

An excellent conclusion to this series, although I think I had the hardest time with the bonus chapter XD This is a fairly standard HOPA game in outline and quest-based story, but very nicely done. Lovely art, moderately good voice acting (not all, but most), and a coherent story with likeable characters. I had two crashes (runtime errors) near the end of the game, but didn't lose anything because the game apparently autosaves when going into and out of HO scenes and puzzles.

Pros:
- despite the 2016 release date, this game plays well in widescreen
- choice of difficulty settings
- interactive map
- integrated guide with images and solutions
- nicely wraps up the story from prior games in the series
- bonus chapter is both cute and challenging (although not without issues - below)
- bonus activities (post-game) aren't extensive, but they're nice for casual game play
- lots of varied HO scenes and puzzles (mini-games)
- Steam trading cards (but not Steam achievements, likely because of problems with achievements triggering)

Cons:
- slight stability problem late-game with Windows 10 (crashed twice, though no data loss)
- needed more objects that could be kept and re-used
- toward the end, I found the "HOPA/ adventure game logic" more than usually annoying; also, it just shouldn't be that hard to find a hammer in a dwarf village or mine (sometimes not being able to ask for what I need gets to me LOL)
- the bonus chapter was a good length and had lots to do; however, I found two mini-games that I couldn't fully solve on my own *and didn't understand even after looking at the solution*; that may be me being dense, but even so, it points to carelessness in the design

Overall: Get this game for your HOPA library. Better yet, get the whole series. If you enjoy the fantasy/ quest genre, this is a great series. I wish more recent games were like this one: solid story-telling, and *variety* in HO scenes and mini-games. It's nice to have some challenge. Let the user decide what difficulty setting they want. As usual, I recommend getting this game on sale, or at least in the bundle. That's a reflection on Steam HOPA game prices, not on the game.

Game Information

"Awakening: The Redleaf Forest" Collector's Edition is a Hidden Object Puzzle Adventure game. The game was developed by Boomzap Entertainment and published by Big Fish Games Studio.

"The Redleaf Forest" is the seventh episode of "Awakening." Previous episodes: "The Dreamless Castle;" "Moonfell Wood;" "The Goblin Kingdom;" "The Skyward Castle" and "The Sunhook Spire."

Since this is a collector's edition game, it comes with extra features that are not available in its counterpart; the standard edition.

The Game Review

Game Visuals

I want to mention that the visuals in the game are nicely done. The visuals can be adjusted in the game's option menu.

Game Audio

I want to mention that audio for the game is well done. Even though the audio is somewhat simplistic and repetitive. The audio can be adjusted in the game's option menu as well.

Gameplay

There are four different game difficulty modes to choose from: Relaxed; Normal and Dreadmrye.

There is no notebook in the game. But there is an objective panel in the game to keep track of all the objectives.

There is no padlock feature that is available to lock the inventory panel in place to make it stationary. The inventory panel automatically comes stationary.

There are interactive items in the game. Some of the interactive items may require extra components before they can be interacted with. All interactive items are marked with a symbol in one of the corners.

The hidden object scenes consist of the following: Find 'x' amount; Picture items; Shadow items and Traditional word lists. Some of these hidden object scenes may require a little or no interaction.

The puzzles are fairly easy to solve without having the need to skip any or them.

There is a collectible in the game: Flower Stone. They are scattered throughout the game for the player to find.

There are eight different achievements that can be unlocked from playing the game. Each of these achievements does come with some requirements that need to be completed before they can be unlocked. These achievements are in-game only.

Since this is a collector's edition game, there is a bonus chapter, but it can be accessed only after the main story is completed.

Miscellaneous

There are extra features in the game: Wallpapers; Music; Concept Art; Bonus Puzzles; Novel; Movie Gallery and Game's Strategy Guide. Most of these extra features can be accessed only after the entire game has been completed.

There are six different trading cards to collect. Only three of those trading cards are given out by the game. There are several ways to get the rest of the trading cards: Purchased from the Steam's Community Market; Trade with friends; Booster Packs and its Booster Pack Creator.

Final thoughts: I have found the game enjoyable to a certain extent. The replay value for the game is low. I would recommend this game, but not at the game's full price value.

What a piece of crap. Story is wimsey, grahips are blurred, hint-function gives no real hints. I am so disappointed with Big Fish games. It is absolutely not worth the money.

I didn't really realize that it was a Big Fish published game before seeing some other titles of their catalogue. So, you bet that I added it instantly in my wishlist and that I've waited for a discount to buy it. Not that I wanted to buy it full price but I'm used to prices under 10 euros.

Awakening is a series with Princess, then Queen, Sophia, discovering her lineage and deciding to take back what's hers and find a way to save her parents from an eternal sleep. The Redleaf Forest is the final chapter to that particular arc for Sophia's story.

The Redleaf Forest is the theater of a war between centaurs and dwarves, because of Dreadmyre, the main antagonist. However, Sophia needs to find a centaur that will forge the weapon that will defeat the evil entity. And while trying to find a way to stop the war (though you'll see that the twist in the end that will solve everything).

If the plot is well-written and can be played without any prior knowledge, I found it just disappointing not to have the whole story on Steam, even if Big Fish promised to release the beginning under the form of a bundle. You're missing all Sophia's background and journey to what she is now.

The gameplay is quite the standard one: find items to use after, solve puzzles and clear hidden objects scenes (whether in the form of objects to use, of a shaped list or a list of words). What is cool here is that these scenes can be incorporated into the story (for example, being searching for something for the healer). The puzzles are easy. However, I've a small complaint: sometimes, I couldn't really find what to do because I've missed an item somewhere.

The graphics are really good, colorful and sad in the same time. The soundtrack was good too.

The fact that is a collector's edition is also interesting: aside from the usual bonus, you have a garden where you can play minigames and where you can make plants grow!

So yeah, Awakening: The Redleaf Forest is a very good purchase. You would be crazy to miss it if you're a casual adventure gamer. And the full price is justified. Now, I'm just waiting for Big Fish to keep their promise to release the rest on Steam.
