Повествование связано с разгадкой загадок и головоломок, а по окончанию вас ждёт несколько концовок. Игру прекрасно дополняет аутентичная музыка и голосовое озвучивание. Вы не только познакомитесь с фольклором, но и узнаете немного истории Швеции, так как события в игре происходят в XIX-м столетии — в то время более миллиона человек покинуло страну из-за голода и в поисках лучшего места для жизни.
Над игрой работал всего один человек на протяжении полгода, а композитор написал хорошее музыкальное сопровождение. Если вы в детстве любили атмосферные истории и сказки, вам обязательно понравится эта игра.

Pointless quest. You save the day regardless of choices or opportunities missed. Game design and story are fine.
Charming and relaxing point and click game with interesting folklore. I played through about four times to see the different endings and achievements.
It is hard to say a lot about a game this short (approx 30min), however, I must say that I loved the artwork and the music expecially - Very soothing. If you are into scandinavian folklore and music you are going to love this! The downside of the game, except for being insanely short and extremely easy, is the voice acting (Sorry!). Almost made me wish the dialogue was read-only.

Verdict: 7/10 (due to shortness and voice acting I cannot give it more)
The story (if you can even call "Monsters threatens to take child, you bring your big sister with you after doing groceries for her, monster leaves" a story) and the puzzles are all very straightforward and uninteresting, the art is bad, and the game is extremely short and absolutely not worth the price. And it's not even necessarily about the length, when I completed it I was left wondering "Is this really it?", because it's so shallow and unsatisfactory, it feels like something that should be a free game for kids. Can I also say I found it funny that a good guy gnome trying to save lives helps fix the violin of a lake creature that grabs passing humans and drags them to their deaths? That's how little thought was put into this world.
I bought Oknytt at the same time as this for the same reason and I enjoyed it far more.
The UI is awful. Animations are sllloooww. Very little exposition about the folklore. You can complete the game in 30 minutes. Very little replay value unless you want to see all the endings and get all the achievements. I 100%ed it in 87 minutes.

This is an interesting, short game based on nordic mythology. The pace is slow, but in a good way. you're given tasks to complete and as you do, the world around you unfolds. I love the voice work in this one. It really adds to the atmosphere. There is nothing too challenging about this game, but it is fun and relaxing.
An enjoyable little point-and-click adventure about a gnome living on a farm with some newly-arrived humans. I picked it up for 2 and half euros from what my receipts say, and I'm happy with what I got for the price. It took me about 40 minutes in total to get all the achievements, including the hidden one.
There's a foundation here for a nice little farm managment game, with the added interest of enriching or ruining the unwitting human tenants, not to mention the prospect of dealing with interesting supernatural beings in a more in-depth way.
The atmosphere and music are good, and I'd like more to do so I can spend more time in Midvinter. Hearing the humans reacting to the actions of the gnome was a nice touch, too.
On the first playthrough I left it default, but on the second I played with Swedish voices and English subtitles. It was fine either way, though I think the voice acting was more natural the second time.
Short - 20 minutes tops - and extremely simple point-and-click experience based on Swedish folk lore. The soundtrack is beautiful as well as atmospheric, but... it's 20 minutes straight-forward point and click, suitable for perhaps a child, and its full price is 4,99€. I realise and respect that this game was made with love, and by someone with a genuine interest in Swedish folklore, but I can't see past the price versus its content. I wish it at least could have gone somewhat into depth of the backstory and lore of the various creatures and spirits we meet. But it simply doesn't have anything to offer other than a short, harmless and shallow experience.
If Scandinavian folk lore interests you and you also happen to enjoy horror, I'd instead recommend the Swedish Unforgiving: A Northern Hymn, or the Norwegian Through the Woods. The Frostrune is also a nice point-and-click influenced by Norse mythology. But if you get Midvinter for more than its current sale price of 1,24€, I think you'll be heavily disappointed.
It's a cute little game that doesn't take long to play through, but it leaves you with a warm feeling.
The story is nice and your choices in the game lead to three different endings, which was fun as I am always a sucker for games where choices matter.
Unfortunately I can't recommend this. There's just too little substance for the price tag, even half off. There's practically only a dozen scenes with only a handful of interactions. The whole thing is completely beatable within half an hour, getting the happy ending without doing anything more than logically following the clues presented by each interactable item. There's no challenge, and there's very little exposition about the actual folklore, and I wasn't sold on the art work. Think very carefully before you buy.
This was a really sweet, quiet game with a great soundtrack. The snow-covered farm was beautiful. I loved walking the gnome around the farm at night, setting things right for the human family, and negotiating deals with the wilder fae in the woods.
I wish it had been a longer game, I enjoyed it a lot and felt a lot of sympathy for the gnome and his friends and humans.
My only regret is that the singing from the trailer is nowhere in the game itself, not even in the credits. I would play the credits just to hear it; it's really quite lovely.
Very short point-and-click game based on Swedish lore. I picked it up for Christmas Eve as the scene felt appropriate. Beautiful for those with an interest but not fully familiar with Swedish folktales. It shows how they were talked of in daily life with the casual mention through the humans. The song in the video sums up the game beautifully well, I just wish it had been throughout the game. It has an old charm to it and the gnome guardian feels so pure hearted.
Be forewarned, once you finish playthrough 1, the 2nd and 3rd may be a breeze through for achievements depending on how much you accomplished your first have-at. Each ending is different and explains the future outcome of your choices. I grew up with these characters so to see them come to life is very interesting and exciting. The fact it was made by one woman in a span of 6 months begs high respect.
The art style feels traditional and beautiful which is what really grabbed my interest.
Best for lore enthusiasts, Swedes who hold their heritage dear and perhaps children.
This charming, feel-good game is based on Scandinavian folklore, which was compelling enough reason for me to try it out, as I find gaming to be a great way to learn about various mythologies of interest when incorporated into this medium of story-telling.
It's of the Point and Click genre, with rather delightful art (see screenie link below) and adequate voiceovers.
The game is short, but there are 3 different possible endings, each of which give a different Achievement/Achievements, depending on the choices you make throughout the game. Your mission, as the helpful Gnome, is to commit acts of goodness for the local spirits and/or the humans who dwell above your home, ultimately gaining power with which to fight a horrible troll that has evil designs.
I am impressed that this is a mainly One-Person development, with the soundtrack being composed by a second individual, and I experienced no glitches or bugs. The common complaint that the Gnome moves too slowly is easily catered for by double-clicking, or changing settings ingame, so that was no problemmo for me.
I bought this game with a 50% Off coupon, so the price was awesome, but I would pay full price for this if I bought it again - ofc that's personal preference, being due to the little insight I got into this part of the folklore was worth the dollars to me, on top of the other aspects I've written on here. The interest I gained through this inspires further reading and that is a bonus benefit that again, is subjective.
So I would recommend, yes, but I would definitely suggest doing a little research first to see if the price-for-content fits for yourself.

This game was super charming! It's simple and a quick play, but the characters are awesome and the music was beautiful. I do wish the gnome walked a bit faster and that some of the voices were louder, but that's okay, I can't wait to play again and take a different story path! Huge props to the ONE person who created the game, she's a rockstar!
I thoroughly enjoyed this little game. I've read reviews complaining that it's too simple, that the movement is too slow, that it's not "action-oriented" enough. But that's not the point of the game. It's an attempt by someone from one culture to teach at least part of the myths and legends from that culture to the rest of the world, in a form that is accessible to many people.
Also, take into account when you play this that the game, while put out by a company, was actually designed, drawn, and brought to life by one person over just six months. And for those of you who just have to move our little gnome faster, there's a way to speed him up in the options menu.
If you're achievement oriented, then you will have to play the game through at the very least three times in order to reach the different outcomes required by those particular achievements. So, while it can be played through in a short period of time, it cannot be COMPLETED in that single playthrough. Also, the final locked achievement isn't explained anywhere, there is no walkthrough, and looking at the global stats, it's not one that many players either can or bother to figure out.
This is another game that, when I want to step back from destroying the world or making life-altering decisions for characters or watching blood spatter, I come to Midvinter and enjoy the gnome, his friends and helpers, and even the Troll. Maybe I keep hoping that one day I'll actually be able to talk him into going into the bedroom so that I can finally see these mysterious humans who he takes such excellent care of?
At any rate, I recommend this game to anyone who is interested in learning, who isn't so adrenaline addicted that they can't stop killing for even 20 minutes, or even if you simply want an inexpensive game that offers you the ability of gaining both achievements and trading cards.
You could do far worse than spend a little time in...Midvinter.
Very cute, short game. It's a simple point and click that can be finished in less than an hour. The art style reminds me of some old fairy and gnome encyclopedia's that my grandmother had when I was growing up. Very suitable for children.
In brief: Midvinter is a short point & click adventure based on Scandinavian folk lore. It has a fun and original storyline as far as games go and about an hour of content.
Midvinter is a curious one. Folk lore of Scandinavian people with gnomes, trolls and other fay folk is a rarity not often explored in games. As a Finnish gamer (and our folk lore shares a lot with the Swedish one) I found the theme refreshing.
Taking the role of a house gnome, you are (as per the folk lore goes) a benevolent house spirit that helps out the people living there. New people have moved in, so once again you have a purpose. Unfortunately a troll has also arrived to cause trouble.

Midvinter plays out like a traditional point & click game, with the difference that you have a time limit (time moves on when you switch scenes). Your actions during this time affect the events and the ending of the story. While a short game, there are four endings (three of which grant an achievement) depending on how you play it out.
Story and its motivation is simple but good. There are relatively lot of things to do on the farm considering the length of the game, and I enjoyed finding the different endings a lot. The game and its puzzles are also rather easy for anyone who's played point & click games before. It would work well for children.
Graphical style is good and does great service to the mythology the game is based on. Soundtrack also fits the theme quite nicely, nothing to complain there.
...and criticism
The English voice acting is the only place that could see some improving. I thought the human dialogue was quite okay but everyone else talked rather awkwardly: the conversations simply didn't sound natural. One could perhaps blame the supernatural origin of the speakers but I found the voice acting on those parts mediocre nevertheless.
This might only concern English: there's Swedish voice acting as well, but I didn't try that. Perhaps it's better, being the native language of the speakers. It's nice that options include setting subtitles and voice acting separately if you'd prefer.
Gameplay has a quirk that you can never simply move. Gnome moves only when interacting with stuff. And boy, does he move slowly! Fortunately you can skip both the movement and dialogues (after enabling this in the settings).
Technically Midvinter is pretty good, and I encountered only a couple minor bugs along the way, seeing a duplicate shovel and experiencing one animation freeze that was amended by a reload. By the way, the game saves automatically in each scene. However, the lack of manual saves matters little since the game is so short.
Aftermath
Nevertheless, the problems are rather small. Overall Midvinter is a very nice game, albeit also really short one. It could be played thoroughly in a mere hour, even though I spent a leisure 2 hours on it.
Its main issue is ultimately its short length: I don't think it's totally worth 5 € for a one hour experience. Half the price and I think you have a nice purchase.
This is clearly a labour of love, with lovely artwork and haunting music. Temper your expectations otherwise though, Midvinter is very short, although it seems to have a few different endings. Point n click mechanics are very straightforward, the story is fairly basic and voice acting isn't great. I'd say it's worth a shot for a short, relaxing game session, and it's a good achievment for a sole developer.
Incredible game, definitely recommend for people that just want a nice chilled out session of game time and enjoys learning about folklore. Will have to play it a few more times to get the rest of the endings. So worth the small amount of money!
