Spelunky's younger, more attractive sibling.
Better than Spelunky, fight me.
Don't buy unless its on sale! it goes on sale for less than a dollar more often than its off sale. Game is not worth more than a dollar, but its fun to pop in and play for short sessions. Very challenging so if you don't want a challenge don't play this. Its randomly generated so a lot of runs are gonna be entirely luck based.
Still till this day have never found a game like it! There's tons of great roguelikes, and dungeon diving games but this one? Captured something different! The art Style + the Combat is so sick I always loved how fluid it was. Currently looking on xbox for games like this, but this is it! (BUY IT)

As someone who doesn't get many days off, I don't really have the time to grind replaying the first 2 levels until I can get past them with ease. I know it's rogue-like and that's cool and all but I just wish there was a checkpoint mode where you got to save after each boss and continue from there after you die. I want to see what else this cool game has to offer not have most of my playtime just be redoing the first 2 levels.
Keen to do the multiplayer, I feel like it'll be a better experience.
Also, the bats are so annoying got daym
It's my favorite rougelite, what more can I say. Between this and the switch version I've probably clocked over a hundred hours and it just doesn't get old. It's hard as nails, frustrating and unfair at times but I love it x)
This game is just kinda Mid, it takes some elements from other Rogue likes such as world generation in a manner similar to Spelunky but at the end of the day its just very standard gameplay.
The final nail in the coffin is the boss fights because they have minimal replay value and there comes a point where they just aren't fun to encounter at all because you can't just attack the bosses; you have to wait for an opening and it kills the power fantasy that makes Rogue likes fun.

This is for my completionist friends who want to complete the games they buy, even if the game isn't as great as you hoped. Do not touch this one.
I have reached the final boss in the shrouded lands multiple times now, it's the last thing I have to beat in this game cuz I'm a completionist. However, I think now it's time to finally write my review.
I can under no circumstances recommend this game. if you have played all the other big rogue-lite titles, and you're sitting on too much time, and find it amusing to play a chaotic game with horrible platforming just for the giggles, sure.
But if I had known what this game is, I would have never bought it. The rating is currently at mixed, it honestly deserves a negative review.
The one thing I like is the items and how some of the items can synergize. But you can hardly enjoy it because the rest of the game is so horribly designed.
Regarding my playtime: I work from home and have Zoom calls all day long. I often played it between calls while waiting for the next meeting. I don't know how many hours of my playtime this game was just open in the background while I was doing other things.
Yeah that's another thing, you can't save mid-run and continue later.
Overall, the game feels unfinished and has so many mechanics that make no sense. If you don't take the game seriously and have no intention of completing it, by all means, satisfy your curiosity. But I have this rule to complete any game I purchase, so here we are. I'll keep playing on and off until that's done.
Hopefully, my review will save other completionists from making the same mistake and thinking this is a worthy time investment.
fun little spelunky ripoff. leans into metaprogression with unlockable perks, into boss fights, and combat in general. traversal and secret little nooks and paths are deemphasized.
This game is super hard and somehow I beat it once. The balance of gold to level progression is unbalanced. But its super fun to bomb around the randomly generated world. Controls are great and the gameplay is fun. Did I mentioned that it is a difficult game?
Would've been a 9/10 if it didn't have a multi-fazed final boss, blue bouncing bombs that kill you no matter what you to and if the whole thing wasn't a rouge like game.
It took a bit for this to grow on me, but now I love it. I do think it would be better if there was more sense of progression after each run vs just trying to find all the events to get to 100%.
I played this to completion on Switch.
One of my favorite rogue-likes. Reminds me of the barbarian side scrolling arcade games I liked as a kid mashed with "Binding of Isaac" style RNG. Once you get to grips with the systems like evolving your weapons, each run feels very exciting.
If you are getting tired of rogue-likes that follow the "Returnal" and "Hades" format of upgrades that give you "10% more of some kind of damage", you'll find something intriguing here.
A mix of Vagante and Risk of Rain. No matter how hard you squint your eyes it wouldn't look like Spelunky. So if you starving for more Spelunky after playing Spelunky 2 for hundreds of hours it won't satisfy your itch. The procedural level generation is so random and the controls are so clunky and slippery it wouldn't take you long to realise that alas Caveblazers is not a true successor for one great roguelike.
After some time with this i can say, well worth the price. i recently been playing mostly roguelites and this game has exactly what i like about the genre. just something about having varying builds that can make or break runs, on one of my attempts i had the means to literally be a god only to get humbled by next boss. also do love that i can keep track of the progress and and slowly but sure modify my run to see what works and what doesn't. i do hope to one day play this with either a friend or family member to see if the odds would be in our favor, though i think the game is great the way it is and hope to find more like it.
Great replayability, fun for completionist freaks like me. Lost my OG save and played through again. Would recommend.
Let me play the game how I want. This game has so many broken RNG mechanics that you can just get royally screwed. I've played plenty of these, but none as bad as this one.
The fact that I get kicked back to main menu for using cheat engine in a SP game is BS.
amazing game, tought as hell. I didn't think it to be that hard - only to get my ass handed to me. 10/10 will start a run again <3

This is one of the best rogue-likes around and I'm shocked it didn't gain more popularity. I think the biggest hang up for most is that it's hard, and it's true it can be hilariously difficult. You'll be having the best run ever only to get exploded into some spikes or stuck in a corner with a ton of mobs. There are so many ways to create unique gameplay with every run. There's perks which can fundamentally change your character, blessings to add abilities, powerups for your items, items that grant new abilities, & runes that modify the game mechanics. It's amazing how much complexity they squeezed into such a simple concept.
After i've played this game for so long, I think that I can conclude it is, overall, a good experience. It's very fast paced and that's what makes it so fun; you'll have to think fast, concentrate, and sometimes play smart if you want to win a run. It is also very replayable in that every run is different enough to the point where it never gets boring. And the music is great. BUT, sometimes it suffers from bad level generation; occasionally way too many enemies (enough to be unfair) spawn in a level and very rarely, certain levels generate in such a way that it's impossible to progress without the use of certain items.
These flaws don't completely ruin the game for me, but it does make it kind of frustrating, so perhaps it's not the best platformer roguelike out there. But in my opinion it's way more fun than, say, the Spelunky series, and I recommend buying it especially when it's on sale.

Great game! Has some quirks, but plenty of love put into it too. The gameplay is as challenging as is addicting (and with me struggling to get to area 3, that's pretty challenging) Each time I beat a boss with either full HP, or just barely scraping by, I feel a strong sense of achievement. You don't just, blink and kill em'- it's done through mastery of the gimmicks.

My only complaint is that the coding might be a 'lil rough- there's a studdering issue with my copy, and from what I've researched, no *clear* fix, besides a whole lotta possible fixes- all of which haven't worked for me. DLC's also got some balancing issues, what with enemies from the endgame being allowed to just, spawn immediately alongside the first level's mobs.
Borderline rage game but in all the good ways. Fairly RNG based so some rounds you get fucking busted items and other runs you get twenty goddamn potions. The RNG is what makes it fun and it makes you happy when you get really good items that synergise well. Very worth the price for how much content there is.

However this doesn't make it bad! This just makes it not as great compared to spelunky one and two
But its also way cheaper so give or take...
CaveBlazers is quite RNG based the gear you get can make or break your run and some bosses are quite annoying too...
However the gameplay is good its not insane or shocking but its similar to spelunky's gameplay... You run around kill stuff get to the exit continue, kill a boss and continue to the next area.
The area's aren't too special they are just like spelunky mostly the same with a different colour.
The bosses are incredibly though but they can all be beaten no-hit if you know what you need to do

This game has post game artefacts that make the game more challenging and quite more interesting too they truly spice up your gameplay compared to Risk of Rain2 where its only minor changes here it changes how you play a decent bit!
Simple design:
Easy to learn hard to master its just that simple! Just like spelunky!
Cool physics:
Has tiny details such as blood splatters and meat chunks being stuck on walls which is nifty
Negatives
Annoying bosses:
When you first play through the game these bosses will feel unbeatable, not at the tier of like "damn almost!" no they just feel annoying. Most have a gimmick where you have to cheese them to beat them while this isn't a bad thing this isn't too interesting as you do the same thing over and over otherwise you die.
Random godlike enemies:
Sometimes you will run into enemies that can parry your attacks and instantly strike you. At this time i still don't understand why or how to beat them i just shoot them and they eventually just stop parrying and die??? Or kill themselves???
A great action platform fighting adventure game ruined by two terrible design decisions.
+ Like the graphics. It is minimalist enough while still maintaining a degree of detail.
+ Music is very good - but same for every boss it seems.
++ Very hectic and tactical gameplay despite its simplicity. You get into some interesting melee fights. - Too bad it isn't rounded out by an interesting or even practical range mechanic.
+ Lots of items - but more on that in the negatives.
-- Most one use items must be accessed in your inventory menu which covers up the middle of the screen while the GAME IS STILL PLAYING. What is the point of having so many interesting items if I have to sacrifice myself while looking for the right one?! Maybe have a dedicated slot for items the same there is for magic items.
--- Only 8 directions in range!?!? For a game that is often very twitch reaction and requires a lot of precision, it is annoying to see arrows just flying over the head of a far away enemy just because you can't aim direction where they are standing. You have to run back and forth to try to line up the trajectory but that often results in falling and/or agroing more enemies.
