It's fun to see the turrets in first person, but it gets old after an hour. After that you're left with a mediocre tower defense game with bad controls and boring design. I'd rather just go play BTD 6 or Sanctum 2.
This game looks nice, and I tend to love TD games, however, I can't recommend this game because the Ai is dogshit. I was playing a skirmish map, and one of the graphite armoured kitties (the ones that need to be hit with upgraded lasers) got past my laser defenses, (2 twin shredders up front, 2 beam lasers in the middle, 1 heavy turret on the back left, 2 shredders/1 regular gatling turret on the back right) and out of nowhere, the next wave came rushing at me. I did not ONCE click on them to signal them to start the attack, they just did. So I have 4 turrets at the back hammering away on a cat they can't kill, and I have 2 lasers and 2 twin shredders which are overrun easily. I lose because my 4 turrets hammer away at the invincible kitty and weren't bothering to defend the base.
Another issue is what I mentioned before. The waves start without you, sometimes they don't and sometimes they do, it's a coin toss which you get, I've done everything, hell, I've refused eye contact with the bastards and they still come running.
Last issue is Skirmish mode, some levels are laughable broken. On the level I described with the 6 towers, I got $2500 to spend, on another level WITH THE SAME AMOUNT OF ENEMIES, I got $1250. The cheapest turrets cost $500, so you're stuck with 2, and if you place them in a bad position, that's it. Skirmish on that map is brutal. I have yet to get past wave 3. We need to be able to program the turrets to go after specific targets, and if that's already a thing, I haven't been properly tutorialized on it, and I've tried EVERYTHING.
When these issues are fixed and the game gets more balanced, then I'll recommend it, but as it is right now? It's just frustrating and not worth the money. If you do get the game, stick to the campaign, those levels are more fair and let's you ease into it. Skirmish throws everything at you at once with zero hesitation and it's not fun nor fair.
Can not rotate camera with HP reverb G2 controller. No response when pressing Left and Right.
Fun time waster. Great looking levels and the concept is fun. I do wish there was a lot more depth in regards to being a tower defense game (limited weapon upgrades, no combos). Pretty short play-through. VR mode does not enhance game. I recommend getting on sale. Die hard TD gamers will be bored quickly. 6/10 poop faces.
So, I never thought I'd be the tower defense type, but this game opened my eyes to it. It's a very well done game for vr and I never had much issues with it. Sadly I beat it quite quickly, once of normal and once on hard. I do wish it had a lot more levels because if you do manage to do them without fail, you will beat the game in your first day if you can stay on vr for extended periods of time.
Still well worth getting it in my eyes however. It's story line isn't going to win a contest, but it's enough to keep the game moving. At that, immersion wise, it's not bad, but not great. You don't constantly think about how in this world you are a massive human who just makes towers. Or at least I didn't. The look of the game is very fitting in my eyes, and there are a good amount of alien cats to attack. It's without a doubt no shooter (though i do wish that was an aspect of it because that could add a bit more player immersion to the game.) but it is definitely a pretty good tower defense in my eyes.
Should you buy it?
If you think it looks interesting from the video and pictures then yes with out a doubt I am willing to be you will enjoy it. Like I said I never thought I would like a tower defense and the vr aspect to it makes it pretty nice as well if you enjoy vr as much as I do.
If you don't think you will enjoy it I would say you can give it a try, maybe find out like I did, because it is possible to return games as long as you are within the guide lines.
If you without a doubt do not like tower defense but you think the vr aspect could change that, MAYBE try it. And if you don't like it return it. But it's up to you in the long run.
Final notes:
It's not a long game, but there is progression so you aren't going to fly through it in an hour. You'll enjoy it on normal then maybe try hard, or just go right to hard. I think going into it on hard will make it more challenging then normal and in turn more enjoyable but it's up to you what you do with it once bought.
This game seems like fun... but the Oculus Rift-S controllers do not work in this game. I tried contacting them a few times and the ignored me fully. I asked steam for a refund and it is pending now.If you have a Rift-S don't buy the game!!!
Very awesome game! I am a big fan of Tower Defense games in general, and I really like ones like this which have you place towers strategically to win the war.
These levels are challenging, but not overwhelmingly, and you can keep learning by failing and readjust your strategy to overcome each level. Due to my very impatient personality, I cannot afford to spend hours of my precious time trying to overcome a level.....it's just too frustrating for me.
I like the many towers available and their diffident capabilities. This is a sign of a very creative developer. The Tower upgrades are awesome as well. All of this facilitates a game that calls for strategy to overcome.
By the time you get to the final level, you will be given sufficient resources to overcome the onslaught of kittens. It took me a couple of tries on some of these levels, especially the last one, but it is not frustrating at all.
I just cannot understand the very few negative reviews at the time of this writing. I did not experience anything that would cause me to write a negative review about this very creative and imaginative game by the Developer.
It took me a little more than eight (8) hours to get through all fifteen (15) levels, and I know people that have paid much more than the full retail price of $15 for that much time to complete a game. There is good replay value as well after sufficient time has passed, and you forget how to overcome the level. So I will likely come back to this one after some time passes...it was that much fun that I want to play more than once.
I am surprised that this game was out since 2016, and I never noticed it until it went on sale. Developer, if you are still out there, please keep your games coming. You are a very talented VR game creator. Why have you not had any follow up games to this one? It is obvious by the great reviews that this game is very popular in VR.
This game made me want to vomit very quickly. The camera doesn't move with your head, and if you get close enough it will switch from panning to zooming.
There are workarounds (keep the view zoomed out, don't move your head too much) but you can't really see what's going on at that point. Refunded.
9/10
Tower defense, ferociously difficult and loads of fun. Took me 7 hours to complete. Cat lovers should probably stay away. The zoom aspect of the controls is quite dizzying, and I don't ordinarily suffer motion sickness in VR games, so be aware of that before you buy.
I really wanted to play a TD game in VR and I did find it enjoyable for a bit. Eventually it starts to seem like there's only one way of going about the levels because theres only so many pre placed towers areas you can build on. I think I would have found it funner if there was just free placement of towers and then just ramp up the mobs as it goes on.
At some point steam lost my cloud save of this and it forced me to restart from the start, and I just couldn't go through the first stages again since each level pretty much feels like you should just do it the optimized way. Haven't really played since.

+ Many types and levels of towers - effective against many different types of kitties!
+ Nice graphic - it not might be obvious from flat screenshots, but this game is surprisingly beautiful
+ Free view - You can position camera to view over the battle or make yourself small and observe kitties from the ground (but you don't have to move while playing if it makes you motion sick).
- Stupid turrets - sometimes even when placed on perfect spot, turrets just shoot ground or target wrong kitties; it is shame you cannot hop into a turret yourself.
- Cannot set difficulty in skirmish (default one is insane) - 3 difficulty levels only in campaign mode; if you are in the middle of hard campaign and want relaxed gameplay or maybe show it to a beginner? well, the only option is to start again easy campaign and lost progress in hard one.
- Most time you need to look down which might hurt your neck after a long game session.
- Some achievements don't work - or there is no way to get some of them due to the difficulty
• Generally, this genre of games might not be much better in VR than on screen like other genres, at least with the current generation of headsets. In slow-paced games with a lot of waiting or just observing, you can feel the weight of your headset - but at least you have better view and control over the battlefield.
Movement: Scaling and moving world with controllers
Controls: Motion controllers
My progress: 17 hours, finished campaign once (medium difficulty)
Recommended price: 10 €
My overall recommendation score: 70%
More reviews of VR games here! (NachtomVR - Steam curator)
I am not entirely sure if this game is good because it is an accomplished tower defense game or because it is a very polished VR game. Frankly I'm not sure I care! The game is great! The levels are challenging, the variety of enemies, turrets, and upgrades means there is plenty of content to sink your teeth into. What makes this game special is how everything scales as you zoom in. Hard to describe, but it just feels "right". Controls are intuitive and simple to pick up even for novices to the vive. Do yourself a favor. Pick this game up, play until your face hurts from the headset, take a break and then repeat. There is easily a dozen hours of content in this game!
Wow!!! This is an incredibly well done (probably the best all around polished Vive game in fact) tower defense game. If I had known it was this good, I'd have bought it a long time ago and wouldn't have bothered to wait for a sale.
Edit: I've had this game for three weeks now and already have 19 hours on it - had the Vive for 8 months now and 19 hours is the most time on any of them by far. Look at all the reviews and see how many hours people have in this thing. Save your marriage, save your job, save yourself and don't buy this game or it'll consume you and affect everything you value and love.
Let's face it, most tower defense games are junk: there is too much focus on the art and not on gameplay, the controls are wonky, it's hard to differentiate units, the AI sucks and they are too easy.
Here's why this game is awesome:
This game has beautiful graphics in a fun and rich VR environment.
The tutorial is short, but covers everything you need to know.
The controls are very easy to use, and within a few minutes you'll have them mastered.
It's really easy to move about the environment and control your units.
The AI is really good, you'll find your units doing on their own what you'd do if you were controlling them.
It's very easy to get an idea of where your units are and what unit is what since you see everything in VR.
On the hard difficulty, it's really challenging. I was trying to make sure not even one kitten made it through, then I had to switch to just making it through the level. This is my main complaint about most Tower Defense games is that they are too easy. This game ramps up fast, but not just by sending hordes of kittens at you, but by testing your defenses by sending them in specific orders that make you really think about how you should place your towers.
In summary: This game is awesome! The developer nailed every facet of making a VR game great and has released one of the few complete, fully polished, VR games out there. I can't believe it's only $20. Unless you really hate Tower Defense games for some reason, just give it a try and refund it if you don't like it. If you haven't tried Tower Defense games before, then this is a great first Tower Defense game!
Tower Defense brought to near life. I stumbled across this title thanks to the folks at VRupload.com The game came reccomended by thier staff so I figured I would give the title my money and see if the positive review was on point for me. I will preface that I generally am not a fan of most Tower Defense type games, to date, the only TD game that held my attention was Plants vs. Zombies for its entertaining presentation and gameplay. Kittypocalypse has shown me the future of TD games. While it contains a loose story that provides mild entertainment, the game shines in execution. The tutorial is crisp and quick and needed for your first play through.
The ability to zoom, spin, and manipulate the map in full 3D space turns what could have been a TD clone into a full on giggle riot and breaths air of life into the title. Well crafted assets and terrain design make blasting kitties to green alien goo provide plenty of incentive to build solid defenses and zip to ground level and watch the mayhem unfold.
The skirmish mode offers solid challenge and the campaign is worth a play through (I am at 10/15 levels at this time). My children (teen and pre teen) both picked up base mechanics quickly and we took turns watching each other play and giving advice to stop the kitty hordes. We all found the title to be enjoyable with plenty of pick up and replayability.
Not a VR game to introduce 1st timers to, but one to share with those who have spent some time with the VR unit of their choice. This has found a place with me and my minions, and I look forward to hours more of play. You would be wise to pick this up even if you are not a fan of the genre, as you will be after playing.
http://bolverkgames.com/ has done the genere a favor here with this quality title, and the possibilities for TD and RTS games on the VR platforms are limitless and waiting for more worthy games to be crafted and shared to the world.
Fantastic VR experience. It works better seated, in my opinion, as controls will allow you to turn around the level pretty easily. I spent many hours on it completing the campaign. Some points can be annoying due to the lack of a way to select a specific target for turrets, but this doesn't detract to the experience.
I have already recommended the game to my all my friends, so I will recommend it here as well.
Fun and innocent mowing down of cute adorable evil kittens.
Works great in VR and looks great.
Hope a few bonus levels or game modes get added, but it certainly has filled a Tower Defense void on the Vive and in such a great fantastc way. None of that boring monster / zombie / alien / robot stuff. Pink spaceships land fluffy bundles of joy at your doorstep and they skip merrily towards you for pats, smooches and cuddles. How will you stop this nightmare?
Definitely one of my favorite games for the Vive. This is a must have for anyone who loves the tower defense genre. This along with Quar: Battle for Gate 18 are two games that I think really take advatage of the room scale and controllers for a great game that is not one of the cookie cutter demos that have been coming out lately. This is close to AAA game quality and well worth your purchase.
Very satisfying meower defence
I enjoy standing next to a turret watching the kittens get mowed down, or laying on the ground floating above the battlefield
An enjoyable game you can just sit back and watch for a bit before changing up your turrets
Turret types work well and get you to plan the best locations and upgrade paths to combat the range of kittens you will face. Changing them up on the fly or just enjoying your purrfected defence
I love the zoom features too. Lots of options to conform with what you find to be the most enjoyable and non-sickening.
Controls are very easy to use (VIVE)
A game I will happily go back to and play again
Solid game. Since it looks like the dev is watching these reviews, please add an option to take manual control of a turret, that would increase the meow factor.
A very nice tower defence game with good graphics and decent controls, though I did start to get a sore neck using the menus, think they need some tweaking a little bit.
Moving to a birds eye view then back down to ground level is very nice.
Did encounter a couple of issues which ive posted about in the discussion forums for the game, but nothing game breaking.
Some things I would like to see to improve the game is the ability to take over a tower and control it directly as in toy soldiers for the xbox.
And of course COOP and MP would be good to have.
I played this sitting on the floor, didnt use room scale and not sure how the game actually uses it as its really suited to a sitting position.
No (real) kittens were harmed while testing out this game
Played using a GTX 970 oc
