What an amazing little game! Fast paced, fun, addicting, amazing music/sound effects that sync with your attacks. Oozes style, even with the simple graphics. Difficult curve is very well balanced and since the game restarts so fast, there's barely any frustration while trying again. A gem of a game.

Very satisfying and addicting gameplay that keeps you wanting to come back for more and get faster runs. The music and sound effects together with the art add to the satisfaction of the simple, but extremely smooth gameplay. I highly reccomend this game, especially to fellow steamdeck users

Yes, it's HOTLINE MIAMI with a Gorilla, subbing out darkwave for acid jazz. Expect the same kind of difficulty and pattern learning as you brutalize your way through humanity and work your way to freedom. Full of style and smooth controls.
If you saw PROJECT X and want to take vengeance into your own furry hands, this is the one.

Ape Out is a fantastic little game that really does well in the artstyle and music department, as well as having a solid gameplay loop. The game takes about 2-3 hours to finish, but there is extra content in the form of arcade and hard modes. However, I recommend playing the game just for the core experience, as arcade mode is essentially just a zero death challenge, and hard mode feels a little too random and unfair at times in my opinion. (for example, sometimes you'll be able to breeze through areas, and other times you'll be surrounded by 4 bazooka dudes in an open space with nowhere to hide)
Overall though, I think this game slaps and I highly recommend it.
Pros : Fun combat sick jazz music and visuals --- Cons: Super short
Definitely recommend getting it when its on sale I got it for 3$ during the autumn 2024 sale

If you just want a game thats fun and replayable and dont care about the artistic side then best spend ur money elsewhere though.

I wanted so badly to like this game but the decision to randomize stages is so bafflingly terrible - so anathema to what makes it fun - that I cannot in good conscience recommend a title that becomes a prolonged exercise in frustration at the higher levels. How am I supposed to pathfind when the optimal path changes every attempt? What's more, many of the level/enemy layouts generated are so ridiculous that they feel impossible to clear. The further you progress in the game, the less it becomes about your skill and the more it becomes about hoping your prayers for good rolls will be answered.
What an absolute waste of inventive gameplay and stellar presentation. Fine if you only want to mess around in the easier levels for a couple hours but not at all worth the price if you actually want to enjoy (or attempt to enjoy) all the content.

Fun game that didn't overstay it's welcome.
To me this is like the perfect low budget indie game. The concepts are easily digestible, the art is minimalist but still quite eye catching, and the soundtrack is downright awesome. It's easy to start playing and understand, but further into the game it will also challenge you and force you to develop your techniques and strategies. Mechanics are super fun to play with too, it really FEELS like you're a rampaging murderous gorilla. The only negative thing I have to say is the main content is pretty succinct, so there's not a whole lot of game to play but the final level is still definitely a big highlight. I got this game on sale for less than $5 though so I'm not too chapped about it, I'll probably still go back to it again at some point anyways :)

Fun and quick little game. Only major flaw is last half of the third album has some unfun aspects about it and the pyros were designed in a way that discourages using them when it should be the opposite. The "No man's land" level is kind of a poorly designed level, tbh.

Sort and simple game, with bright colours and great jazz soundtrack that changes depending on your actions in the game.
more content than meets the eye, aswell as a decent bit of replayability, by my guess id say theres a days worth of nonstop content
I don't know the last game that made me cackle out loud like this. Ape Out is a perfect video game experience. Break your cage and smash your guards.

APE OUT is a percussion jazz album hidden inside a video game where the gameplay itself is the composition. The choice of instrument (percussion) drives home the ham-fisted gameplay. This purposeful use of basically exclusively percussion audibly entrances us to what our gorilla friend is doing and is likely feeling. Even the enemy variety and different levels provide different soundscapes as you smash them into the terrain. Visually, the game skips out on photorealistic fidelity for minimalism. Accomplishing the immense readability a game like this needs. All this to say, the game is primarily about the visceral feeling of simply smashing something against a wall. Whether that wall is steel or wood, it cares how that would feel. Overall, this game is incredible at accomplishing its visceral feeling. I cannot recommend it enough.
