A full, up to date review, on if you should get Trials Fusion in 2025. + Linux/Windows
Long story short, yes.
But if you want the details, because they are important, here are all of the ups and downs with Fusion, across Linux and Windows.
I dualboot Ubuntu and Windows 11, and across all the other, 2015 reviews for this game, YES, It does use Uplay. But as, weird as it seems, Ubisoft Connect does work fine on Linux, and so does the game. Connects perfectly, servers all work, and saves even transfer. Works perfectly on Proton 9, which is brilliant because this game is a PERFECT time waster on the Steam Deck, like straight up, the arcade-y ness in Fusion is so much fun. But what about pros and cons? What about the specifics that show that Ubisoft didn't care about this game?
I can tell you right now, this game has it's ups and downs, but it's one of the most recent GOOD ubisoft games, because I can tell Redlynx put a lot of love into this game.
Pros:
The comedy is good,
The gameplay is fun, especially if you love seeing flying ragdolls.
The game is challenging when it wants to be, especially in those later stages.
Yes, the game does work OFFLINE. It's a perfect steam deck game, I told you. I know the other reviews said it didnt, but if you use ubisoft connect, the game will be offline, without Track Central, though.
It's got online, and local multiplayer, but due to this game's release date, and mixed reviews, good luck finding a match.
Track Central, which is actually pretty cool, It's pretty much a stage builder, but you can do so much with it. Really fun, or challenging tracks, and sometimes entirely different ones, such as the (very limited) first-person maps! I don't even know how they work, but they do, and it's kinda cool.
The story is really good, but you might not understand it on first playthrough, another way of seeing that Redlynx put love into the game.
DLC 1/2 I've got 2 comments on the DLC's, the first one being good, the other, not so much. If you buy the Season Pass, and Awesome Level Max, you'll have every level in the game, which all are fun, and challenging, and still have that real Trials feel to them.
The customization for the bikes, and riders are also cool. but what isn't cool, is
Cons:
The female riders literally have 2 outfits. That's it. Everything else is behind
Microtransactions. Now, I KNOW THAT FEELS LIKE A HORRIBLE THING IN A TRIALS GAME! But, it IS only cosmetic, thank god. And you still have plenty of other outfits to choose from (unless you play as a female rider)
This game literally might be ruined by Ubisoft Connect, if you have bad experiences with it. Apparently there's a thing where it might ask if you want to reconnect to Ubisoft Connect after you finish a track, but I haven't seen it, online and offline.
And also, because it's a "Legacy Game", you must log into Ubisoft everytime you launch it. It'll remember your email, but if you don't remember your Ubisoft password, you cannot play. Sorry. (unless you play offline, which the singleplayer works fine offline)
DLC 2/2. Why does the game have these? I mean, I appreciate the wide spread of more Trials levels, with a heck ton of maps and custom stuff, but jeez, it's clear Ubisoft DEMANDED it. Also you'll need them for some track central maps. because they use DLC assets.
You WILL need a controller to play Fusion. I mean, you don't HAVE to. but the game is so much worse without one.
If you are new to trials, I recommend to not go for all gold, unless you really have to. The levels do get hard, the closer you get to beating it.
You can no longer get all cosmetics, as some of them were linked to the mobile game Trials Frontier, and that's been binned already.
This game is a port. From the console editions. Now, that's not bad, atleast we have the game on Steam, but the game is always locked to a 60 FPS cap, and there is no way to fix it.
(also yes there is graphics settings)
Achievements. This game has them. But not on steam? They're all on Ubisoft Connect's horrible menu. Also they're mostly linked to track challenges, which are hard as all hell. Good luck 100%ing this game.
The FMX Foxbat tricks suck. I mean, the more i use them the more I understand them, but jeez you are praying to RNJesus EVERYTIME you do one. Play the game and you'l understand
To end off this review, I'm going to say, I love this game. I dont have much issues with it, other than difficulty, but I've beaten this game twice, i've played it for HOURS on my Xbox, and it was a big game for me back then. Trials fans will love this, and hate Rising, because personally that's what happened to me. Rising sucks by the way, I dont like it. This game will always have my heart. And I hope it gets yours too, because this game gets too much hate for a game made by old ubisoft.
And if you want more proof that it's a good game, just open it up, and tell me what the first intro is. Any game with that old as hell graphic is certified to be fun.
Also, i dont understand the love for Evolution, and the hate on this game. The artstyle is completely different, and reminds me of the titanfall 2, call of duty infinite warfare era, where everything was futuristic and fun. Evolution lovers can hate all they want, but atleast we still have online features :P
chill game until u hit the impossible levels
good game
ubisoft connect can eat ass for all i care, i hope the company gets sucked into the deepest pit of hell.
Requires a Ubisoft 3rd party loader, insta down vote for that trash
top 10 game
Replaying it on PC in 2025 after having played this in 2014 on PS4 it's still a very enjoyable - maybe even the best - entry to the series. Tons of content available, pretty much no rng, only you vs. yourself, and squeezing out the platinums and even then trying to cut some time and getting up the leaderboards is just satisfying.
PS: works flawless on Linux using default Proton 9.
Please remove ubisoft connect.
Does not run on steam deck, does not work with family sharing. Its most likely an issue with Ubisofts horrific launcher - it's 2025 guys, just drop this crap. Do not purchase.
great game. Played countless hours back on the Xbox
When playing this game i feel like I should try and flip, but no the bike spinning is uncontrollable. Not to mention you need to install ubisoft launcher. I dont think so
Trials Fusion is a solid Trials game but it's a downgrade to Trials Evolution. For instance, it doesn't have as much base game content and tracks (not counting the DLC), the Skill Games aren't as fun since it was one of my favourite aspects in the series and the character and bike customization is limited as you can't customize individual parts of the bike and clothing because in Evolution you can.
However, the soundtrack is decent so I'll give it that. Sure, the graphics, the future setting and the environments are beautiful and it has Track Challenges which is a neat addition but that's about it. There's a FMX system where you can do tricks but it's a bit janky.
But hey, it has Track Central and the community is so creative because there's all sorts of impressive tracks and mini-games that you can play!
Now look, I don't hate the game at all, I think it's a solid Trials game just like I said, it's fun, the tracks are great and it still has that same gameplay we all love but Trials Evolution just does it better for me for many reasons and I prefer it.
On top of that, there's in-game currency which is...yeah.
In conclusion, a good Trials game but a downgrade to Evolution.
Also uplay.
UBISOFT SUCKS
Game is great, alot of fun, but the fact i have to have UBISUCK launcher even though the game is in Steam. Fuck that. Fuck Ubisoft.
not good
Trials Fusion is a phenomenal game with minor issues that is held back by it's incredibly vampiric publisher Ubisoft.
I reset progress at 175hrs to go through the campaign again.
Pros
- Phenomenal skill ceiling with a controller; there is a very active "Ninja" scene that prides itself on completing extremely difficult custom tracks focused on throttle control and balance
- In-game custom track sharing and building
- The game itself pushes you to do great and become great
- Controls are extremely fluid and responsive
- Most of the bike options are excellent and add unique twists on gameplay
- Variety of cosmetics isn't bad
- You can earn the paid currency at a decent rate by playing tournaments weekly but you have to be on the tournament screen when they end which is really dumb. You have to schedule calendar events to boot up Trials. Paid currency only goes towards cosmetics though.
Cons
- Ubisoft requires you to be online to play
- Ubisoft requires you to login every time you want to play because it's a "Legacy Product" (??????)
- Ubisoft launcher sucks dick and is basically malware
- FMX system is awful
- The Awesome MAX DLC is really terrible and is super unfun
- Sound options aren't as granular as they should be; Hearing the throttle is incredibly important at a high level of play, but you can't only hear the throttle; you also have to hear all other track SFX.
- Menu design isn't bad but it could be better
- Some content just isn't available any more (there is a crossover with the mobile game Trials Frontier where you can earn a couple of cosmetics but Frontier was taken off the app stores so you can't play it)
[*] Way less female cosmetics than male
Conclusion
Trials Fusion is a phenomenal game, but Ubisoft's soul-sucking capitalist greed damages what could be a series that's still ongoing today. Instead, the series is basically on life support, and appears to be slowly dying. The Trials games were great, but Ubisoft was always in the way to make sure that these games didn't do as well as they could've. Fuck Ubisoft.
It's alright, I suppose.
Fun but doesn't really pull me in
justr a sick game
Steam Deck Only User
I first started with Trials Rising after reading mixed reports that it would launch. I first tried the demo which seemed to work as expected. I then purchased the full copy and was not able to get past the launcher force closing. My only tinker steps to alleviate was to try a hex editor trick in which I could not find the indicated byte in the guide. I immediately returned. I have played Rising on Xbox for your info, and it was good.
So onto Fusion. I had a minor hiccup in the first launch. It asked for a CD key and such. I believe there was a login request as well. I unfortunately dont remember specifics, but the problem I ran into on first launch seemed to clear up after retrying a second time. The game itself runs great on deck with default video settings, no tweaks made. As for the gameplay I do seem to prefer it over when I played rising on Xbox series X. I understand why risings UI is criticized after playing Fusion. I have no experience with evo. I recommend this version for deck owners. Also I want to add that I hate these required launchers other than steam as well. I do try to avoid supporting AAA companies, but a great game is a great game that unfortunately the publisher taints the developers.
imagine getting handed down an xbox one, and the first time you open it, you scroll through the list of games, and see TRIALS FUSION.
i originally played this way back when it was closer to new, and i loved it. i never got incredibly far, really. but i had a great time laughing at the ragdoll physics.
now, as an adult. i played through all but 1-2 of the basegame tracks that were a little too hard for me. and man. it's fun. trials is fun. it's a very vibes-driven type game for me, i like the backgrounds and environments a lot, and them breaking down basically as soon as you open your replay and enable the freecam is part of the appeal.
this might be peak trials, honestly. the fmx system is a biiit weird and jank but it is also relying on ragdoll physics and weird stick inputs so it's kinda also funny and interesting to me.
Ubisoft platform is buggy and slow. Doesnt even connect for me. Didnt find a way to play without ubisoft connect.
good very good if your not up for a challenge dont install
played again for the first time in years and got very bored very quick, it was a little too easy but good if you like time trial games like this and trying to set the best time
GOOD
👍
too lagyy
Goated game
cant even log into ubisoft
only bad thing is paying for the season pass
still did that
very good games is kind of easy too
I was so excited to play this game, single player, on a flight on my Steam Deck. Turns out you have to be online to play it at all. If I could still refund it, I would.
game's fine, ubisoft connect isnt.
fuck ubi soft. great game tho
Its a great game and a nostalgic masterpiece, but the only issue I have with this game on PC is extreme lag and launching issues.
This game is really fun and controls nice
Holy fuck how can such a simple game be so fucking bad in terms of user experience that u simply give up even attempting at playing it.
First u have to deal with the fkn Ubisoft launcher which makes the game unplayable half the time.
Then u have to deal with the bullshit of no self explanatory controls that leave u jerking ur own dick for half an hour while u try to play this piece of shit game that could easily be a 9/10
Jesus fuck this games only makes u angry. Suck my scrotom this game sucks
great game from long ago. endless challenges and long grind to learn mechanics
terrible, i was recommended this by a friend. very laggy, extremely difficult to do any sort of flips. half the time you don't even know where the track is. the graphics are trying to look good but are let down bc of the lag. took half an hour to actually log in to it. there is a 10 second tutorial the the rest of the game is completely different. do not recommend. ive seen better google and mobile games then this. your better off going to "Poki" on google and playing MotoX3M!!!!!!! would not recommend.
Peak.
This game survives the nostalgia test. An excellent game in an excellent series. Very high replayability.
It won't allow me to play because I need to login to Ubisoft connect and claims it can't connect to the service. I can then click any other Ubisoft game and it will connect, automatically login, and play, and when I come back to trials it still claims I am not logged in and will not allow me to login. Don't buy this trash. I used to be able to play it a long time ago, guess I don't own the game anymore when I literally do.
its great
What can I say?
Its over ten years old now!!
It is very HARD!!!
Its only FUN when a level is completed!!!!
Playing it in small doses is highly recommended.
Thumbs up cause progress in this game feels GOOD!
There is a DEMO so try it out for FREE!!
ubisoft connect is a cancer
bueno
Ubicrap
