so fun!!!!!!
The creator of this game ran a Kickstarter and abandoned it. Backers were never informed of the Steam release, nor were they given the Backer Rewards they paid for.
The last Kickstarter update was April 22, 2016, and backers were subsequently surprised to find this game for sale on Steam.
The game seems fine so far; the graphical style is coherent and interesting, gameplay is entertaining; but the unethical behavior of the developer is alarming.
Even after coming out of early access this game feels somewhat unfinished; the developer added elements to the game that were not fully realized. For example, you can get increased loot and gold gain, not that it makes a significant impact on the progression. You can level up and find loot for all these different characters, but the game is not long enough for you to even max out one of them. The bosses drop a few different items that can be equipped to increase stats such as damage and movement speed, I have not noticed a significant loot variety (hence I don't see a point of loot stat). The characters occasionally gain new abilities, although they are few and far apart. The best part is unlocking those characters and trying out new moves, some of them include improved platforming elements. Each character also has an alternative skin which is a welcome feature.
As a platformer the game is somewhat niche, I don't know how else to describe it (it's mediocre). I personally enjoyed it for what it was, if you like grinding stats it can be fun for a few hours. It took me only like 3 hours to beat so I did not even get a chance to try all the characters, on that note, the game would be better if you could switch characters during levels and synergize their abilities. One of the characters has a bone shield, it would be cool if you could use that and switch to a different character, that way we could actually try all the heroes instead of beating the game as one of them. I actually kind of like the look of the game, even though it is not that pretty, but the soundtrack, not so much. While I enjoyed some of the boss fights, the level design felt lacking in a few places; the stage where you cannot see the invisible blocks was one of the most annoying levels I ever played.
Pros:
+ several playable characters
+ can level up, find loot and increase stats
+ alternative character skins
+ several boss fights, some were enjoyable
Cons:
- short game, not enough time to make use of all the characters
- some RPG elements were redundant
- the level design was not very good
- I did not care for the soundtrack
Overall Thoughts: 6/10
The game did not give me a good reason to try all the characters (I beat it using the same one). While I was enjoying this casual experience, the grinding aspect and RPG elements felt underutilizes. You have all these characters that you want to level up, but the game ends before you can do so. Maybe adding achievements for playing with different heroes would help. However, I would like to see an ability to switch between 3 characters during levels, or even better, make another act so the game feels more complete.

It's a bit like "Majora's Mask" meets "Super Mario World". Very charming game with, from what I played, only one or two kinks that could stand to be worked out.

This game reminded me of an old school Sega Genesis game I used to play so I was eager to give it a try, and was happy to find it had all the fun with none of the hair ripping balance and control issues. Love the style and trying levels over again with different masks to find the best one for a situation. I've played with both a keyboard and a controller and both handle great.
Fun game, cool music and unique character playstyles! The dev is very responsive, I reported a bug and he resolved the issue in a hotfix shortly after. I can see this games potential and I can't wait to see where it goes in future updates.
Often times many games lack balance. They can be beautifully designed, fully realized, and still lack any semblance of balance. This is not one of those games. This game has a modern edge while harkening back to the days of side scrollers. Packed full of delightful surprises, challenging yet fun bosses all set in a strange yet surprising 2d, world this game should very well surprise veteran gamers and new gamers alike. A gorgeous soundtrack, simple yet stylistic visuals and estoteric gameplay. I found myself playing for hours at a clip. I won't lie, some of the boss fights are very challenging, but always unique.
It's been years since I played a side-scroller so satisfying and so well realized. This game is a unique and satisfying experience. Imagine Mario on LSD.
My name is Asher, and being such a rare name I found it amusing there was a game on steam using that very name; so I impulsively bought it. It's certainly no AAA title, yet it's still a cool little game.
Pleasant and enjoyable with a nice pace and difficulty level. Varied levels in terms of graphics and theme make this a fun game, perfect at it's price point of $5 or so. The developer has a fondness for old-school level layouts, patterns, and pixel art which is a huge plus in my mind.
I played Asher with a keyboard (have a controller, just too lazy to connect it) which made it a bit of a challenge to do the wall jumps. But I persevered and got the hang of it. Recommended.
Lots of fun! It's like a cross between contra and mario with a bunch of rpg elements thrown in. Mask abilities are intuitive but take some skill to master. Boss battles are frequent and unique which both adds a challenge and satisfying end to each theme.
Since its still prerelease, I'm eager to see what is added on in the future. The main menu has "coming soon" gamemodes which I'm excited about.
There is a lot of potential and easily worth the price.
Asher is an engaging platformer, with just the right amount of RPG elements. Although not a fan of the genre I was drawn in by my son and soon found myself hooked. We've been playing in a hotseat format since. Although its still in early release, the game is very polished and I can't wait to see what this indie dev comes up with next. An excellent purchase for my game library!
