Probably my favorite one of the set. Simply remarkable.
I didn't like it. The games are essentially just repetitively doing the same things over and over again to get them right once you get the knowledge on how to get them right. Super boring mechanic to be honest. Part 3 was the worst, though, because, what you had originally believed to be the only way to progress the game winds up being the wrong thing to do and the only way to fix it? You guessed it. Start the whole game over from the very end to nearly the very beginning just to get things right because now you know it's bad to do that. The game really genuinely feels like it's just stalling for time until the refund period is over. Also, the mechanics are pretty dull. Aside from strategy (which fundamentally boils down to doing things over and over again until you learn a strategy), there isn't much for the player to do but read (you might as well just pick up a book instead). Fighting is a joke of a mechanic: just decide how hard you're going to hit or use a spell instead--both of which wind up being influenced by the 'do it over until you get it right' approach.
Aside from that, in case you're wondering, the game wasn't buggy for me, and the story is an interesting one, though I wouldn't argue that the writing is stellar.
I also thought I'd add that I've played games before that punish you for not knowing how everything in the game works, and I've enjoyed them. Oxygen Not Included and Don't Starve both will just let you die from a lack of knowledge and make you start over. BUT, you never have to do the exact same events over and over again just to try to get the best outcome. Every replay is fresh because you're doing everything and your choices, while multitudinous, aren't set in stone. You can do anything, no set story line to adhere to, just general survival goals. Honestly? They allow you to truly choose your own story. The Sorcery games just make you read one that's already been written in the most tedious fashion possible.
I've also played visual novels before and enjoyed them because they didn't have super boring mechanics to ruin their stories.
When an in game god looks you in the eyes and calls you out for save scumming, you know the plot is good
This was a great rendition of the book, really brought to life and has a fantastic new narrative with replayability. It's pretty easy to miss a lot of things in the game though, hence the replayability.
