Fun first 2 worlds, 3rd world starts and it's a HUGE difficulty spike, still fun the first 2 sections. Then I got to the reverse water with pinwheels section, nope. Stopped after I got an achievement for 100 deaths on 1 level. I watched a YouTube vid to see what I was doing wrong to beat the level I was stuck on, after 15 minutes of being unable to replicate it I un-installed. Games wasting my time, controls are very wonky on the latter levels and it shows. It's a 50/50 shot of getting the gun to propel you in the direction you want. The only way to be certain is to have a large jump whichever way which means it requires very precise timing on something that feels floaty. It was a pretty good time, now it just doesn't feel fair. Another game with devs who don't know how to scale difficulty. I'd give it a recommend if they were honest and just made levels this difficult from the start, either that or fix the floatiness on the water reverse areas.
If I never see a spiky windmill again in my life, it will be too soon. I will "recommend" it even though this is definitely not a game for everyone. The difficulty gets to such a ludicrously high level in the third world once said windmills of death are introduced that I admit it started to affect my enjoyment and eagerness to try and get every collectible. A trick I found is to just hold fire in certain levels and tap the other button rather than switching between the two.
Atomik: RunGunJumpGun is a mobile app that's been dumped on Steam as if it was a real PC game (it's not)... it's a cash grab from greedy mobile devs. This mobile app is yet another of several hundred, if not thousands of garbage low effort endless runners plaguing Steam. I guess it should be mentioned that despite the name, this has no apparent relation to the asset flip scammer, Atomic Fabrik, it's just an unfortunate co-incidence. That doesn't mean this isn't without problems... indeed, the gameplay itself is indistinguishable from an asset flip.
Like all endless/autorunners, you're moving and you can't stop. All you can do is avoid the obstacles coming at you (or shoot them) in this incredibly shallow shovelware mobile app. There's a sci fi/robot theme, but that's irrelevant really, a pixel blob is a pixel blob.
From a technical perspective, as a mobile app, this doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard.
A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result.
There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. There's no way to ensure this is running at the native resolution of your display. There's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision.
Because this is a mobile app, it carries a number of deliberate design deficiencies. Compromises were made to cater to the iPhones that the mobile app was designed for. These are unfortunate handicaps and limitations that PC gamers shouldn't be forced to accept, but it's evident that PC was an afterthought for the iPhone developers who are to blame for this. The mobile app is deficient as a result of these choices, and would have been so much better without the handicaps that designing games for mobile phones forces upon a game. Once more, mobile devs have made gaming worse for everyone. I didn't spend thousands on building a gaming rig just so I could pretend it's an iPhone.
These technical defects push this mobile app below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.
Atomik: RunGunJumpGun didn't appeal much to the people who own a copy of the mobile app, either. It has achievements, and they show us a very clear picture that the mobile app didn't really capture any interest from gamers. The most commonly and easily attained achievement is for finishing the first set of introductory levels, trivial to get, but less than 20 percent of players bothered to get that far before uninstalling the mobile app. Hardly a success story, gamers just weren't all that interested in the mobile app.
Reviewing SteamDB to check how popular this mobile app was with players reveals a surprise... there's a modest spike in player counts for the mobile app. But this only happened once, and isn't consistent with the achievement stats, that show less than 20 percent of players bothered playing the mobile app for any reasonable amount of time. How is it possible for this mobile app to have so many concurrent players who didn't bother engaging with this mobile app? Trading cards. People will use card idling software to collect the cards and sell them, but this won't trigger any achievements in-game.
That tells us people only really bought this mobile app for trading cards, and that's a damning indictment of the woeful quality. A closer look at the numbers shows the mobile app just has a couple of players every week running up the mobile app and idling it for cards, then deleting it. We must ask how it benefits gamers for there to be so many mobile apps like this, with little merit as a serious game, that only generate sales from people idling and selling the trading cards.
So, should you buy this mobile app? Is this one of the best of the 100,000+ games on Steam?
Once more we see greedy mobile devs trying to scam PC gamers. On Steam, this is $8 USD, on app stores, it's $5. Mobile devs must learn PC gamers are not here to be gouged, and can't be expected to pay almost twice the price for an already overpriced mobile app just because it's been lazily dumped on Steam. This is unacceptable disrespect for PC gamers. Because this is a mobile app, is priced to insult and gouge PC gamers, and because of the other defects, it's impossible to recommend.
Just who do they think we are?
How does this game not get recognition, music is awesome and precise as hell like Bit Trip + Super Meat Boy
I've never felt this awesome will playing someone this miserable !
Would play again !
