Absolutely do not buy this game in 2023 or beyond as it's unplayable on modern setups. Getting 42.5 FPS on a 240hz monitor with no setting to correct for this. Unless you're using a 60hz monitor, this game will not work properly and will slow down gameplay to attempt to sync with the monitor's refresh rate. Developers, please repeat after me: it's the future and we do not build games making fps-bound physics. Again, we do not build physics bound graphics. Got that? Now onto get a refund and support developers who don't cripple their games for convenience.

Really good dodge-em-up with a great soundtrack! A variety of weapons, bosses, and levels give it a lot of replay value.

This game rewards you for taking a break. If you quit and come back later, the upgrades don't cost as much. I thought this was a bug, then I played it on iOS. Same deal.

can't recommend the game due to crashes, when the rover is good equied and you expect a good run.

while some weapons are usefull in certain situations, others are completely useless.

so the idea of this game is nice, but the implementation is poorly done.

developer seems to don't take care for the game anymore.

it's sad, because the game could be fun to play, if the bugs would be fixed.

Twin stick rush shooter that is not too long, not too hard, and not too much bullet hell. To fully complete the game will take considerable effort but it's possible and satisfying to pick up and play the game, and with a bit of luck to complete the "base" run.

Luck plays a role in Rush Rover. There are some upgrades that make chances of success considerably higher, but alas drops are random and some times you feel like you get absolutely nothing all run.
Fortunately, skill is more important than luck. Getting through an arena without taking damage yields extra upgrade points which means you'll be stronger late in the run. Beating the time limit also gives a reward and for your best chances you want to finish every arena in time and without taking damage.

This is a very important feature. It made me think of Enter the Gungeon and how much i hated starting over because the first two levels were hella easy and boring, esp. after a losing a run on a much tougher level. Even skilled play made no difference. Rush Rover isn't frustrating when you have to restart.

What is frustrating is losing a run to a cheap death and there will be a few of those. Not all deaths are registered equal, and a few times i felt i lost not because i played badly but because the game just screwed me over.
Unfortunately this also includes a crash. The Blade Module is bugged and will crash the game. The only way to know is to try to use it. Or to read this.

The bug is a shame because this is a very polished and well behaved game otherwise, especially for a Game Maker game as those tend to be un-optimized and suffer from difficult to fix bugs. I've had a lot more trouble with the brilliant Risk of Rain.

Balance overall is pretty ok. Some weapons are a lot better than others but upgrading all systems depends of getting a lot of upgrade points, and being fully upgraded is more important than lucking into a "carry" weapon or plugin.

Ok, lets get the Nuclear Throne comparison out of the way. Throne is harder and more unforgiving, esp. in later levels when the random layout immediately drenches you in enemy gunfire. Throne is also more stylish and interesting. Gameplay wise they are similar with Rush Rover having more varied upgrades the player can use, but this is expected because there is only one character to play. It is also a lot more focused on boss fights.

The boss fights are a treat. They require some patience while you figure out the bullet hell attack patterns. Some of the bosses are absolutely cruel. They're almost impossible to beat without taking damage without a few upgrades such as the one that reduces your rover's hitbox size! or the ability to block or shield bullet spam.
That said, it's not required to beat bosses without damage. It helps though and there's achievements for that.

A very welcome feature is the ability to exit and save game anywhere, anytime, no questions asked. That's not common for the genre but i think it should be. It's just convenient and takes away none of the danger or difficulty.

Recommended for fans of twitchy, twin-sticky, shooty, roboty, crashy, not allways fairy, and completely bloodlessy games. Or just, you know. You.

This is a good rogue like for a good price. It doesn't reinvent the wheel, but it plays like a charm and offers a fair amount of challenge.

I wouldn't expect something you can play for hundreds of hours if I were you, but you can easily have fun with this for days.

So if you are just looking for a cute little rogue like to shoo of the boredom for some time, this could very well be it. For the price you won't go wrong.

Wow... this game is a surprise. I'm only just beginning this, but this is a solid roguelike twin stick shmup. It's always in hardcore/permadeath mode and always at the same difficulty, so I do wish it was more flexible that way. There does appear to be a progressive RPG aspect to the game though in that you can delete your saved data, which begs the question of what that data must contain. I have noticed that I'm finding a wider variety of weapon and other loot types as I play the game over and over, so I'm guessing that must be part of that. Also, kudos to the dev for allowing a save at any time/place to be resumed later. That works very smoothly.

The game will mostly appeal to retro aficionados as well. Music tracks are chiptunes and graphics are pseudo 16 bit and they're well done, though there isn't much variety in there.

All in all, I do recommend this game. I find that as a roguelike shmup, it's scratches an itch that's a little bit niche and the game is fun on the whole. I got it on sale, but fans of the genre will find that the normal asking price is quite fair as well.

Game is a lot of fun. Very basic and easy to master.
Unfortunately it has some game breaking bugs.

Multiple instances of the teleport pieces missing. 3 of the 4 appeared. I searched the entire map 3 times. It even has an indicator when you view the map but nothing was there. I cleared all rooms so I had to quit and restart, as there was no other option to finish the game. Next play through I get 5 of the 4 teleport pieces..... Then another play through I only get 3 of the 4 again....

Rooms balancing is incredibly random. You can have the easiest rooms in a harder level section and the next room has 5 times the amount of enemies. It is really bizarre.

Worst glitch of the game or for some people the best glitch. If you exit the game and reload it, all the upgrade prices drop back to level 1. So you have upgrades for 50 / 100 / 150 / 200 to get the max level. OR just reload the game and upgrade it for 50 until its maxed out...

A lot of spelling errors but that isn't really an issue.

I don't know how many runs I have done, but blueprints seem to be the absolute most rare thing to appear in the game. What makes it worse is it will have the same blueprints appear over and over and over... How many ring shotgun blueprints need to drop?

Last, enemies spawning in have a marker. Some drop in delayed, some very quick. I don't know if it is a bug, but from time to time, an enemy instantly drops on me with zero indication at all.

I've given this game as much of a chance as I can, and despite loving both bullet hells and roguelites/roguelikes, I can't enjoy this game. There's several reasons for that. I'll be comparing this to monolith and enter the gungeon since both are roguelike bullet hells, and are direct competitors with this title.

For starters, Rush Rover starts slow. Like, very slow. This creates a sense of dread when starting up another game. That sucks since you'll be dying quite a bit here. Why? It isn't always difficulty. This game prefers less brutal, reaction like difficulty, deadcells being an example. Rush Rover prefers a slow burn. That difficulty styling is precisely why the start is so slow. The enemies don't shoot much for the first 30 minutes, and because of that, you're guaranteed to get that far in every run. You won't be challenged much until then, outside of holding your interest.

Once thirty minutes have passed, you'll find yourself wailing on enemies for minutes at a time just to get through a single room. It takes an eternity. Rooms are large as well, and they take forever to navigate. Even if you manage to do so, you'll still struggle to chip enemies down over time. Instead, you end up being the one who gets chipped down, and that sucks. I want an exciting, action packed game when I play rogues, not slow slog up to reasonable difficulty.

In my case, I've desperately struggled through difficult games before. It's standard fare for rogues, and anyone that's played deadcells, enter the gungeon, etc. knows this. This game is also hard, but it's not for the right reasons. It's because holding your attention on this game feels like discipline more than fun. Because of that and the lack of fun I had here, I can't reccommend this title.

Absolutely love the gameplay and theres a good amount of content and things to unlock.

My biggest issue with this game is that just when you start getting good and youre having fun with the powerful combinations of weapons youve spent all game putting together, its suddenly over. Ive only cleared the game twice and played probably 15 rounds or so but wish there was a way to continue after you beat four bosses...

The game is good. A nice way to pass the time and challenge yourself.
But this is a WARNING: the game is crashing often. From nowhere, the screen freezes and in the windows you can see a CODE ERROR: FATAL ERROR message. So, the same happens on NINTENDO SWITCH. Its is so anoying because I was playing for 1 hour and LOST that time. Unfair.

Amazing roguelike game with light progression between runs, interesting weapons, and challenging enemies.

Unfortunately, at this point, about half of my runs end in the game crashing to desktop, and erasing all my progress.

If the devs fix the stability issues, (or if you love the thrill of that uncertainty,) then this game will be great. Until then, I don't think it's ready for market.

Rush Rover is okay enough. Do you need this in your library next to games like Monolith, Isaac, Gungeon, Starward Rogue, Neon Chrome, Nuclear Throne, NeuroVoider, Runers, and so on? No, you don't. All of those games are much better and much more original.

The problem I see with Rush Rover is that it has an extremely slow start. I'm sure it's due to some combination of 1) bullet spongey enemies, 2) rooms that are too big, and 3) you move too slow. If you change two of those three, the problem would likely be fixed.

What I do like is the upgrade system. It feels beefy and changes things. Also, I've found some really cool guns that made me feel OP.

Pros:
+Price-to-content ratio is good
+Controller support works well

Cons:
-Make sure you've exhausted the games I listed in the intro here first, because there is nothing to Rush Rover that hasn't really been done before
-The artwork and chiptune music is pretty 'meh' to me
-The start is too slow and easy

This is not a 'gem' as much as a competent clone in a flood of rogueish games. I don't mean that disrespectfully, but I have to call it as I see it.

It's 5 bucks, I'd have easily paid 10 or more. Slick little game, super tight controls. Has great top-down shoot em up action. I love the rogulike elements, the variety of enemies and the deep customization.

Only gripe is the sound. It is solid where it counts (shooting feels impactful and satisfying), but a couple of the weapon sounds are rather annoying to hear all game. Music could use more variety too. But on the flip side, it IS a 5 dollar game.

Localization can be spotty, some of the english is broken and some descriptions seem to be missing. But noting that will really hurt your gameplay, you'll figure it all out easily.

It's not a perfect game, but it IS a perfect way to kill some time in an enjoyable manner.

TL;DR: Great shooting, great design, mostly great presentation.

I'll admit, despite my amount of playtime with this game, I didn't think much of it. I would just play it because I thought I either had nothing better to do or just wanted something to do while watching or listening to something else. But after all of my playtime, I eventually realized why I kept coming back to this particular game and why it's one of my most-played games on Steam. That reason: It's legitimately one of the best third-person shooters out there.

Which doesn't seem to be the case on the surface, as the environments, though randomized for each playthrough, are mundane and generally constant. That can deceive the average viewer into thinking the gameplay itself is just as mundane as the environment, and it's anything but. Through my time playing in very Early Access to now (still in Early Access, but after many updates), I've witnessed a variety of both major and minor changes, and each update has generally improved the gameplay, and even if more problems are introduced they're typically solved fairly quickly, and some aren't really problems anyway. I've seen even people who otherwise really like the game harp on the most minor, nothing bull crap, and though there were times I've disagreed, it has led to the game only improving as time goes on anyway since the developer does actually listen to players.

To be exact, it's not just the randomized map layouts and bosses which provide the fun, nor is it the variety of weapons and add-ons you can apply, all of which actually perform vastly different functions and thus provide to each player's tastes (and new items have been added every so often to boot). It's the balance this game has with its leveling system compared to the enemies and rooms you encounter. It's how you encounter so many enemies in a room without feeling overwhelmed by everything at once, and even when you're overwhelmed it feels challenging rather than frustrating or ridiculous. It's the satisfaction you get when you slowly discover more items and what you can do with them along the way, as it's rare you get much of anything at once. There's even a level of strategy with how and what you want to level up and when as often you can only do one thing or the other. Should one buy a health upgrade before the boss, or buy the probe sensor so your probe weapons can fire on it as well? Or at least that's something you can contemplate if you happen to have purchased the map and know where the boss is, which means you can seek out the other rooms available beforehand and find more chances at obtaining items or experience points. Otherwise, you'd have to rely on your instinct and sometimes just pick something to upgrade or purchase before moving to the next room, boss or no boss (but especially for just in case there is a boss), and it's easy enough to do considering you can teleport from anywhere you are to anywhere you've been already.

Essentially, there's a serious polish to this game to the point where a lot of what many players can take for granted nowadays is thoroughly exemplified here. It's not big, it's not extravagant, it's not epic, it doesn't need to be any of those things. Even if other games within this same mold have more customization options or better graphics or even better level design or aesthetic touches, they have those merits but they don't have all of the solid fundamentals this game has. A game like Tetris is extremely popular and well-loved by virtue of just being simple and well-made, and that's what this is, and thus shows that sometimes that's all you need. I'm not saying this game should be considered an all-time great game like Tetris, but I still wouldn't have any qualms about saying it's the best isometric third-person roguelike shooter out there, and it's only getting better.

Rush Rover is a very inspirational and important game to me.

Rush Rover is a simple but awesome game where you play as a robot fighting waves of evil robots. You find weapons and upgrades that help you battle the increasingly tough enemies. You can even find a little probe buddy that shoots enemies, too!

- Arcade mode that boasts up to 40 minute runs through 6 areas of increasing difficulty.

- Tons of powerful weapons and helpful plugins to be discovered, along with an upgrade system that makes you feel like you are truly getting stronger as you progress.

- Probes are small, flying bots that can be found randomly and they follow you around, shoot enemies on their own, and they can be upgraded too.

- Lots of different types of enemies, each with their own unique abilities. Each area has a boss that is selected randomly from a difficulty pool that scales up as you progress.

- Cores and Ultra Chips will upgrade your weapons, probes and plugins to make them more powerful and effective.

- Buildings that create weapons, give upgrade cores, reveal the map, and more can be found randomly and sent to home base, allowing you to use them any time.

- Along with the normal Arcade mode, there is a Hard mode that makes the game much more challenging without flooding the screen with enemies.

- Dodge mode that allows the player to practice dodging whenever they want. Dodge rooms can be found in the Arcade mode too, and rewards players who have practiced dodging well by surviving long enough.

- Great chiptune soundtrack that fits very well into the game's setting makes exploring and fighting even more exciting. Not a huge variety of songs, but they'll get you humming along.

- Well made sprites and environments that fit the game's atmosphere.

- Amazing price for such a well made game. I mean, 6 dollars? What a great deal!

Hello, you can call me Frog. I'm here just because this game deserves a review more than others.

For a long time i'm a steam user, i think that has passed maybe five years now, and i never made a review from any other game, not even from the most that i have played, dont matter how much i expended on it.

But this little game needs it. Like a shooting star that pass in front of your eyes when you are looking to the sky at night.

I'm over five hours of game for now, and boy... How much fun and joy, maybe some tears fall from my eyes when i think about it.

I would like to give a note for this game, but just saying a number have no real meaning if you don't know in details what this number actually means.

Rush Rover is a little piece of art, and so cheap at the same time, i think that everyone should have this game if you have the chance, is fun, interactive, light, cheap and at the same time has so much potential and things to offer.

The game mechanics are really easy to understand and you dont even need a tutorial for this, the movement on the game is so enjoyble, the desing and characters ( hero and enemies ) look so generic but at the same time have something especial about it that i cant describe. The game play is so light and good to do and enjoy at the same time give you ways to make it more complex if you want or need a challenge, and it way that works change so fast in simple ways that still make a lot of joy on the players.

Character, a kind funny robot that can evolve in a weapon to surpass metal gear.

Enemies, really a lot of it, trying to make you life a living hell but in a balanced way at the same time.

Bosses, really cool to fight and you can make a lot of strategies according with what you have and wish.

Development of the game when you play, as i say this game evolves in a nice and enjoyable way, the items and upgrades are really balanced, when you pick one of then is like if this changes the entire way of playing the game, making the experience every thin fresh and new, and you have a really lot of weapons, helping bots, shields, special powers and i will say again, weapons. Every weapon is fair and balanced, and is really rare ( if you can ) to feel like exploiting the game or cheating, don't matter how much op you think you are, you can be shooting down really hard, and the guns change your entire style and way of how you are going to play the rest of your game, you can change whatever you want, if you change one item but you still alive, you can just teleport it back and pick it up again. I finished the game, again and again and will keep doing it.

I wish that if more people buy this game for the full price, will help the owner to improve it way more, i also hope new stages, customization for the character appearance ( for exemple, changing his parts when you change, weapons probes and powers ), more stages to select, different bosses and maybe a way to play with friends.

This game is worth it of the full price buy, if you got it in a promotion also better but i will say, give to your friends, to your family, even for that guy that lives on the other side of your town, i think that this game deserves.

Well developed, wonderful gameplay, art style so lovely, REALLY FUN ( hard to find today right? Where most of the games look generic and the same stuff that bothers you or make bored ) you will not get sad, good challenge.

Is the best game that was ever made? No. But is in my opinion one of the best of his category, if you like pixel games, "shooting everything games", and every other game after all, try this for sure.

10/10

RUSH ROVER REVIEW

I'm updating this review because the game changed quite a bit of the things I liked.
(remember my point "it's early access, things that you like can change". Well, it happened.

The developper started cutting the player's inventory into small bits then calling those "upgrades". Aswell as everything costing money to upgrade now. combine those two things and it makes the game a lot less fun. I really don't understand the design philosophy behind this. It just makes the game tedious, you have to level up more things.

Another extremely annoying thing is that the price of upgrades rises with the level, so now, you can't do wathever build you want because you don't get enough xp to level up high levels, so basically everything will level up evenly, which is boring. Let me do what I want, LET ME HAVE FUN, basically.

Even though I'm really pissed and sad about all these terrible changes, I'd still recommend the game, because for the price, you get a lot of play time out of it. Every now and then I'll go play a game of rush rover. (Then proceed to remember about the times when the game was more fun)

The amount of enemies is still pretty low and it's too easy in my opinion. that's another thing that was changed, you used to get bombarded with enemies and it was challenging but really fun. Something else that's bad, the visuals for the bullet changed, the bullets are now small and pink, so it's hard to see them in the corner of your eye, what, why? the bullets just look pathetic now.

Overall, it's still a good game, but if you're looking for a frantic shooter that will test your twitchy hand speed and your dodging skills then you might want to skip it for now. I'll leave 2 videos that show the change in difficulty so you can understand what i'm talking about.

Before : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YtcxHznQj-8
After : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRczrAcxsW4
play them both at the same time and mute them, watch how the ''after'' one has so little enemies after 17 seconds.

It's much like Enter the Gungeon, except without the punishing loot rarity. Great fun. You'll die fast and hit restart right away. This twin-stick shooter has enough style and punch to lure you in and enough depth to bring you back again.

Overall, this game is great. However:

- The game is slow to start up,
- Nearly every menu/text in the game needs a spelling and grammar check, and
- When I try to exit the game, the game crashes.

I've only been playing a little while and I already love this game, but it needs work.

EDIT: Went into settings, set the game to window mode, now runs fine

So Rush rover is finally out!
One of my gems in the libary even in it's early days. Mainly because the gameplay was and is rock solid twinstick, rouguelike action. A bit of bullet hell, quite some tactics and lots of gameplay changing, augmentations that do interact with each other.
You see that I have not second thoughts recommending this one. Anyway a short list of of what this game has and has not to offer!

Pros
+ Solid gameplay, medium pace, getting quite difficoult on the way
+ Lots of randomisation on different levels, but few unfair situations
+ Many Choices to make, options to prepare and skills to use in a tactical manner
+ Action starts after a few seconds and keeps a nice pace
+ Fasttravel anytime, so backtracking is done in seconds
+ Enemies are well designed and there is lots of variations, bosses are all unique and fair
+ Many stats, weapons, drones, add-ons and abillites, everything can be modified to some extent
+ Systems are simple and quickly accessible but indepth in terms of playstile
+ Clean pixel grafix and smooth animations
+ Solid Gamepad and Keybord surport!
+ Great Soundtrack that fits the game in style and pace
+ An active and responding DEV implementing many of the suggerstions that where suggested by players

Cons
- Though environment changes regionwise, it could use some more viarity
- There is little story or lore in the game
- There could be another difficoulty option, since hard may become to easy for veterans over time

Anyways strong recommendation here!
Easy to pick up in small doses, and many tactics to try over time.
