3 years later... Nothing.
TL:DR, 5.5/10.
Beautiful aesthetics and soundtrack, however it has been over two years since the release of chapter one with absolutely no word on the remainder. Currently only 1 of 5 chapters is released, and that barely occupies two hours of gameplay.
World Building:
The world design is pretty to look at but permits little in terms of actual exploration. The world map is very decieving in this matter since the game is utterly linear. The lore behind the world was somewhat interesting but not at all fleshed out because the size of the play-able world was so tiny.
Game Design:
The character dialogue was children's book cheesy at best using standard dialogue boxes. Character animation was poor. Controls were very clunky; walking around was fine but interacting with objects using a mouse and keyboard? Forget it, took multiple clicks to get the character to interact with something. They also incorporated a way to rotate your camera using your mouse button that was very counter-intuititve, made navigating the maze considerably more difficult and nauseating. The puzzles in this game were otherwise lackluster, numbering only several.
Overall:
There is a good foundation to build upon here. To the studio, I hope you rehire your sound designer and music composer. The developers definitely have their work cut out. Elsewise, I hope there will be some news about future releases because I can't recommend this game in this current alpha-like stage.
When I first bought this, it was unplayable. Let the developer aware of this problem of the xbox controller not working with the game ( or the game didn't work with the controller). So, forgot about it for about a year. I found that it was playable, but sooooooo short! It was enjoyable until you got to the end, thinking that it was going to go on....then credits. That you were forced to watch until it was done. I would say that this game is enjoyable. Just so dissapointed in how short it was. Not to mention, that there is NO info on future chapters. Unless they plan on getting more out there. Don't waste your money.
Pretty good if you just want a game without an overly complex storyline and mechanics. Relaxing and fun.
A girl leads a boy on an allegoric fantasy journey outside the walls of his village in this point & click adventure game with the charm & gorgeous art of rpg’s like Trine.
The game is actually chapter one of a set, and after the ending, the groundwork is laid for chapter two. I’m sure it will be as charming as this initial installment has proved to be.Gameplay:
The music puzzles are what really stands apart in Song of Seven. Gameplay consists of the typical for adventure games like Deponia, but with less pointing, less clicking, & less chores. This creates an easy moving adventure game that leaves room for more of the things we like in a good p&c adventure: music, cut scenes & dialog. The dialog options alternate between listening & choice-based answers. The choice based dialog is rather simplified, and can end the game suddenly if you make the obvious wrong choices within the framework of the allegory, because our character is supposed to be learning something from this narrative. Wrong answers would be the equivalent of failing the mission. I finished the whole game in 5 hours, even after having to restart it after a big delay, because I got a new computer. I’d missed one of the achievies in that play through, so it only took 20 minutes to run back through the first chapter to catch that.
Narrative:
Humor and nostalgia-filled moments lead you through a lovely mythological tale of a lost hunter goddess. The boy lives in a village that has been overtaken by fear to the point that they live locked in their own city walls. Then a girl shows up outside the gate to draw the boy away into the forest around his city.
Graphics/Art:
Camera controls allow you to fully appreciate the art that illustrates the story. It is illustrated with deep hues of earth-tones, that bring out panoramas & sunsets in full color splendor. The graphics perform well with a good framerate. I experienced no drops or lags at all. Just a smooth, pleasant play-through without any difficulties. Certainly a game that is family friendly in every aspect. I saw no bugs or graphical errors either.
Pros:
*Socially/ psychologically oriented narrative
*Simple mechanics
*Musical immersion
*Good soundtrack
Cons:
*Not as challenging as many p&c adventures.
*Probably quick gameplay for faster gamers (maybe 3 hours for some)
The Overture is the 1st of five planned episodes in The Song of Seven; a myth-based allegory of overcoming crippling fears. I highly recommend this musical adventure for gamers of all ages.
The Song of Seven: Chapter 1 is a charming game for point-and-click adventure enthusiasts. Would play again 10/10
The game is silent - no music, and most importantly - no voices. That makes the game blunt. It also runs awfully, controlls are terrible, confusing and a nightmare for point&click adventure gamer (tried to play w/ keyboard). Can't say anything about the story and characters because couldn't endure more than 20 min. I never write reviews but this game was such a dissapointment!
This game charmed my pants off.
It's beautiful, to start, and I don't think that's arguable. Try arguing, because you can't. The color choices, the lines, the shadows, the textures, the character models...! Okay, it looks good. But how is it under the hood?
The tone means a lot. The musician is talented, and who knows whether the music complements the art or vice versa, but they are great. I might prefer a few more melodic hooks, but everything meshes so well there's no complaint.
The writing and the plot are a little thin for my story-driven mind, but this isn't a bad implementation so much as a personal preference. I like to read a lot, even in games, and the lack of deep conversations or voice work makes it a little less than my tea cup desires. It's tame. That said, it's not a fault so much as an aspect you should consider before you definitely buy this! You have moderate text to read, and it's to-the-point. This can be a huge benefit for a lot of gamers.
The world map is a beautiful touch for a point-and-click style game, making the whole experience almost feel JRPG-esque. The scope of the in-game universe becomes a true reality for the main character, and this feeling bleeds into the player's hands the moment she/he leaves that claustrophobic village and enters a peaceful, 360 degree environment of shrunken ruins and villages and hillsides and rivers and broken aeroplane-things.
I tend to nitpick, and I want to drop my (useless) advice all day on what could be improved, but the fact remains that The Song of Seven leaves a wonderful impact. It's a great game. It's easy to recommend and easier to talk about. You can feel subtle influences from Ico and Final Fantasy IX here and there as well, and in the best of ways: that is, there's creative inspiration rather than imitation.
If you don't buy Chapter 01 then I definitely recommend you add the series to your wishlist, because if this is what the first episode can offer you'll want to be there for the next ones.
An imaginitive journey through a beautifully crafted world that feels like it was lifted from the watercolored pages of a child's storybook. The art direction is an original, breath of fresh air with obvious thought given to the mood established in each of the sections though the music and environments. I enjoyed the purposefully naive dialog in the sequestered little village and how it contrasted to the more "worldly" characters. The puzzles were thought provoking, striking a nice balance between being solvable without overly simple, and made sense in the context of the story.
The overall message of the piece is an important one and its simple, one line dedication struck an emotional chord. It is clear that great care was invested in the creation of this game and I look forward to seeing how the story plays out. I tip my hat to the development team. Well done.
I definitely recommend this adventure to anyone looking to spend a few enjoyable hours capturing some of the magic from the days of imagination and bedtime stories.
Target Audience: Point and Click Adventure Fans who like themes of freedom, and is willing to be part of a bumpy ride
Summary:
This is a tough one. On one hand, there's a good set of themes regarding curiosity versus safety and what it means to live. Characters are reasonably developed for the 2-3 hours that it takes to beat the first episode. The game is nice to look at, in particular regarding the environment backdrops and the scenery that's created. The basic puzzles do the job, and it's your typical point and click adventure experience. However, it becomes clear early on that the game is really rough around the edges, as the lack of kickstarter budget of the title shows in rushed narratives and a lack of polish of the central engine of the game. It's biggest flaw is its pacing: as story elements drop out of nowhere, or characters undergo massive changes without reasonable events to cause the change in behavior. There's little issues with the presentation as well, as the game didn't do its best of complementing some sections with lighting changes or character appropriate animations. You'll feel like the game fell short of its potential, which makes this determination really hard. I want to see more of this universe, and the base story does enough to tilt things toward the recommendation side. But those getting the game know this: you're getting a deeply flawed experience, and it's a good title to target for a sale.

Lists:
Positives:
- Good themes of fear versus curiosity are present.
- Characters are simple but easy to understand, and have easily identifiable traits associated with them.
- Good background design and drawing talent on display. Can look beautiful at times.
- Some good puzzle design, in particular with a music puzzle and figuring out what notes are missing through tones.
- Developer seems to be rather responsive with multiple builds released during the review time.
Negatives:
- Story rhythm is a major problem. Characters undergo radical changes without the appropriate events corresponding to them. Feels like a game stuck on fast forward, and that may come down to a lack of funds. It just feels like it was held back from its true potential.
- Really rough around the edges all over the place. Suffers from a lack of polish in several elements, including graphics and story.
- Lighting is an issue in several scenes. Unable to see proper emotion, or able to complement the scene well.
[*] Couple of bugs, including a progress breaking one. Developer is responsive, but still, dragged down the experience.
While at its core this game is a modern-style Point-and-Click Adventure game with its direct character controls and interactables that highlight when you hover them, it also evokes a bit of a PSX-era RPG feel, especially with its overworld map.
The character models are decent enough, with limited animations but their own style about them. The backgrounds are gorgeous though, and the music helps pull you into the world as well.
The pacing feels slightly slow at first, but once you hit the world map for the first time things get more interesting. The whole of Chapter 1 took me around 2.5-3 hours.
I enjoyed what I played and I'm looking forward to playing future chapters.
7/10 – a solid start
I had to think long and hard about if I would recommend this game or not. Despite being a complete game it feels...incomplete. But that's just because of the length. It's short. Really short. I took my time and finished in 2.6 hours. I hope chapter 2 comes soon.
Story
For an indie game to have a good story is key. The Song of Seven has a good story.
When the story progressed and revealed more and more of the world, it felt natural and right. Very kudos.
Visuals
Importantly, and ultimately why I recommend the game – it's pretty. Like. Very pretty. The aesthetic is an extension of the story and of the game. It's not pretty just to be pretty.
Gameplay
Gameplay is...fine. The world map and location areas remind me of Final Fantasy in a different art style. The click-to-solve reminds me a bit of Myst.
The biggest cons: you don't control the camera most of the time and when you do, it's awkard.
Other stuff
The game sorely needed voice acting. Only the animals make grunts and it was really disappointing. I don't think voice-overs are necessary for all games, but this one felt like it needed them.
Pros: The graphics are beautiful.
The Music is pretty
The Story is pretty intersting.
The game is very smooth, no lag so far
Cons:The resume button failed on me. (sent me to a black screen)
I find the movement to be a bit sloppy at times.
Overall I think this game deserves a 8/10. It's very enjoyable with memorable characters. Its worth every penny you spend on this game. Here is a quick gameplay 1080p 60FPS.

TL;DR - 9/10 "A charmingly picturesque and tranquil adventure filled with spontaneous characters and gorgeuous music."
Ah! You want to know more? Good choice. Okay, so The Song of Seven: Chapter One holds a beauty I wish I could share with the whole world. Everything from the quirky and unusual characters, to the enigmatic adventure which unfolds seamlessly before your very eyes.
Simply put, I love it. To an extent where I can fully immerse myself into this game and take on the role of young Kiba as he explores the vast world around him. He is a solitary boy, who only knows the fences of the village he was brought up in. But one day a storm has struck the peaceful village, and an opportunity of a lifetime strikes Kiba. Will he take it? That, my friend... is up to you!
*cough* Ahem! In all seriousness, if you want an alluring adventure filled with fun, fantasy and mystery then The Song of Seven might be just right for you. These loveable characters will create an uplifting journey for you which is sure to be taken in a heartbeat.
This comedic tale is certainly one to take part in and I'm sure you'll love it as much as I do. So what are you waiting for, go and start your adventure in this world of mystery and find the purpose of the lands around you!
I hope you enjoy the game as much as I have and I cannot wait for the second chapter. Best of luck!
Footnote - My new favourite instrument is the lyre... I want one!
Footnote #2 - Luna will keep you hooked on this game, she at least did for me...
I havent got far but it seems great i dont think it will be too short either, it's cheap and worth it. The graphics are good, so far the story is simple to follow, the only bad thing is they dont have voices, just speach bubbles but apart from that it seems good and it's a really calm game, definetely recommended !
Digging it so far.
