The game has nice respawning fauna, dungeons and actually quite unique plethora of quests. I am quite surprised. Several DLCs, extensions are there and you can also buy the game on your mobile device and play it there (google play). Its quite unpopular, but very high quality.
Very old school grid based movement. Reminds me of the the old Might and Magic or Dungeon Master games. The mechanics are pretty easy to understand and I'm really enjoying it. Definitely not a game for people who hate reading a lot of text.
Ya like old school, grid based dungeon crawlers?
Ya like open world game?
Ya like this game!
The quest is a weirdly charming old school rpg ported from mobile. There’s some interesting writing and a huge open world and a lot of systems such as alchemy similar to a Bethesda game.
The graphics are a cool kind of fmv esque stale unfortunately hampered a bit by using only one model for npcs in town.
The combat is pretty boring pretty much just clicking but can at times require strategy such as chugging a potion when fighting something outside of your level. But it is fun just expect it to be a lot more basic than something like wizardry
The writing is probably the strongest point the game has and it is quite unconventional and funny but also often a bit underbaked in terms of payofff and character motivation.
Some things about the game are just bad your character automatically firing arrow if you click on the screen when the bow is equipped. Did this by accident in town and wound up getting arrested even though you can’t hurt npcs
The map is also quite bad very little is marked and you can add notations but that feels like a band aid on not being able to find npcs. This isn’t like a reimagining with improved qol this is like below qol of games of an older era.
I think it’s worth checking out if you are a fan of this genre but definitely a little rough
A fun RPG worth checking out imo. It has a lot to offer and is charming in many ways, although it certainly doesn't hold your hand. I've always found the early game to be fairly difficult and even a little tedious, but once you have a proper build and equipment it's enjoyable.
I really want the card mini-game to be its own separate app; I've spent quite a while just playing that because it's so entertaining!
A delightful journey into old-school dungeon crawling.
classic retro grid based first person dungeon crawler but pretty boring compared to others. Searching containers can be deadly if you are carrying a ranged weapon. If you are not facing in a specific direction you will instead shoot your weapon and possibly hit a civilian, causing you to pay a 500gp fine AND perma lose weapon skill doing less damage. Many quests require you to run backwards and forwards and you are not guaranteed to succeed the quest. You go cash it in and it might fail anyway due to perhaps your charisma not being high enough. So your hours of running back and forth is a waste of time.
Fighting animation is very basic and when enemies die they just vanish. which is a bit meh
"Enter a beautifully hand-drawn world full of mystery!"
The only mystery here is why you never implemented autosaves...
"Oh, just pay attention and manually save." I do, but then I get immersed in your game and forget because I'm distracted by essay pages of lore/dialogue, figuring your quests out with no real direction, and figuring out the awkward map.
Very glad this game is as high maintenance as it is...
Might&Magic 6-8 like, quite good, but too easy so far.
Return to fantasy childhood
In an era of flashy graphics and complex mechanics, The Quest stands as a nostalgic tribute to the golden age of role-playing adventures. Originally released for mobiles and later remastered for PC, this hand-drawn world embraces old-school design principles, featuring grid movements and turn-based combat that hark back to classics like Daggerfall, Ultima, and Might and Magic.
Studio Redshift has crafted a game that feels both familiar and refreshing, inviting to explore the kingdom of Monares with the freedom to forge your own path through a richly detailed world. The Quest‘s charm lies not just in its core gameplay but also in overall style and presentation. Hand-drawn environments, primitive 3D, and character sprites designs combined with 1990s lyrical music evoke a sense of nostalgia. This attention to detail creates an immersive experience that encourages exploration and experimentation, reminiscent of the way early RPGs rewarded players for their curiosity.
The game’s structure allows for both lengthy sessions and quick runs, while staying true to its roots. Although The Quest may not innovate within the genre, it still excels in delivering a polished, enjoyable story for all RPG enthusiasts. So if you are one of them, yearning for a taste of a fantasy retro journey, The Quest is an adventure worth embarking on.
And a friendly tip at the end: be sure to save some rotten food and contaminated water along your play. You’ll thank yourself later when given one particular mission in the undead city. Otherwise, you risk spending a dozen frustrating days searching for goods crucial for further story progression.
This is an excellent game, extremely fun and well thought out. I am looking forward to playing the expansion.
