If you enjoy watching a 7-foot-tall minotaur in your party get their ass kicked by a tiny rat man who inexplicably has 10K hitpoints while they fail to hit them 10 times in a row, this is the game for you.
"What if we made all the puzzles absurdly obtuse and gave the player no idea how to progress outside of trial-and-error bullshit?" Congratulations, you've made a game that could have been great into a shitty slog.
A worthy sequel which expands the more confineded space of its wonderful predecessor a LOT.
Challenging, atmospheric and very satisfying when you have finally found that switch, killed that tough monster or solved that tricky riddle.
PS: the title song is such a banger I find myself just hanging out in the main menu listening to it
As per the first game...
A good dungeon crawler
I found the puzzles and combats a little drawn out at times and felt a bit of a grind was needed to solve puzzles and beat monsters at certain points.
Once you know the secrets it is easier, but on the first run you find yourself running out of food and light.
Basically you have to find every key and most secret buttons to progress, there is no moving on without searching everywhere, but it is great fun :-)
Plus it is so much bigger, and has more routes to choose from so you can try one area and when you get stuck you can try somewhere else.
Battles are hard but you can learn tactics to help make things easier.
One of my favorites of all time.
Well made Mod
best dungeon crawler I have ever played
Improves on the first and takes dungeon crawling a step further. Tons of fun.
Imagine if the developers of a game decided that we will take everything from the first game, put it in a second game but expand every property 100-fold. That's LoG2....it's like LoG but on steroids.
Get this if you like old school dungeon-crawlers with good atmosphere and endless options.
Oh and did I mention there is an integrated dungeon creator and player made content? Yeah....just buy it already!
10/10
The Finns know their shit
If you've found this game you likely already know what you want out of an RPG. This game offers tons of charm with an atmosphere that pulls you in. Up until a spider ambush sends you flying out of your chair. Worth the price.
I love Dungeon crawlers and I want to like LoG2 more than i do currently but:
Having to individually Right-click every party member to act during battle is REALLY annoying, my eyes are looking at the lower right corner of the screen 70% of the time.
I decided to look up any sort of keybind function to make this more enjoyable but all i found were some 3rd party macro tools and a lot of angry people talking about "casuals" and "going back to modern games".
Tbh i just want some QoL, i dont need you to turn this into doom or something like that lol
If you think that managing 4 party members in realtime combat with a system like that sounds overwhelming or not fun, then maybe dont play this one.
One of the best old school dungeon crawlers. Incredibly enjoyable.
solid
Great game. Well worth it.
Maybe the best game of all time
Excellent RPG
Great game. Would play LoG 3 if it would existed
The best (modern) dungeon crawler I've played by far. It's insanely polished for this genre. There's a huge amount of enemies and environments, the music and ambience is perfect, it's challenging but not too hard (except for the final boss). There's a dungeon editor and a workshop with custom campaigns. I really struggle to find criticisms. I don't like weight systems in any game and this one is not generous. I had to look up a couple puzzles that seemed somewhat obtuse. Also I felt a bit overwhelmed in the mid game trying to figure out where to go, what to do, in what order and not missing anything. Ultimately I would say it's a very good game and definitely worth a shot if you like RPGs.
Love this game.
Legend of Grimrock 3 please <3
I just love it. Wish there were more.
Didn't think i'd need to have a phd to finish a game yet here we are.
Really enjoyable Dungeon Crawler with good graphics & challenging puzzles. Controls make it a little frustrating at times but for what it is, it's a solid game with lots of replay options for character classes, skills & professions.
Found a single tile with a ladder leading up to it, opened my map and heard a clicking noise, next thing I know a new spell scroll was sitting in front of me and I was surrounded by enemies. 10/10
Legendary
This is a fantastic old school dungeon crawler with devious puzzles. I've played both games with my 11 year old daughter whereby I would control the movement and she would control the fighting, potion making, spells etc. We got a huge buzz defeating the the boss at the end. There were a few puzzles which made no logical sense and we had to look up the solutions, but overall it was a great experience. The biggest challenge would be completing it 100%.
Very good, had lots of fun with it. Its an improved Log1.
If you didn't play the first one just beware that the combat is "semi turn based" and can feel a bit cunky if you are not used to.
This game is just to clunky and cumbersome to be enjoyable
Like its predecessor, this game has decent graphic and music. The plot is also not bad. It's a pity that the game mechanism, especially the easy-to-exploit grid combat system, was not improved. Overall, this game is still forth playing for at least one time.
9 / 10
Superb, the one dungeon crawler video game you need to play, it’s the very best of its kind. Completed this on Hard Mode (though I haven't done the secret ending yet). This game is action-packed and tactical. Definitely much better than the first game (even though I like the first game too), the gameplay is expanded a great deal and is a lot more playable, the level designs and enemies are more varied, tons of surprises to encounter, lots of interesting puzzles. Great graphics and presentation. If you're into RPGs, buy it and play it.
I find this game to evoke the spirit of old-school classics like Dungeon Master. Features like auto-generated maps enhance the gameplay, making it fun and enjoyable. Though for hardcore fans of the old-school playing style it can be turned off.
is super good
While I think this game is better than the first one in almost every aspect, I didn't finish it because I became tired. But if you liked the first one you should play this too.
Cool dungeon crawler. Magic, puzzles, loot, you got it.
This game only furthers my hate towards Mushrooms, Toads and crabs
Buy it you will love it. At least I do. Best puzzles I have had the most difficulty solving "
Some of the puzzles are miserable, and the true final boss is some ass, but great game, especially if you love the brown color palette that every game between 2004 and 2015 had.
This is such a classic game and I honestly would recommend it to anyone that loves dungeon delvers or D&D.
There is a lot to be learned from this game about foreshadowing, level design and layout, puzzle design, and more, I hope that another studio is willing to take risks and pick up this style of grid based dungeon exploration.
This is a top tier open world dungeon crawler. The level design is reminiscent of Dark Souls 1. The puzzles are captivating. The pacing is well thought out. Combat is... it grows on you. Do yourself a favor and play it.
Incredible dungeon crawler. If you love outsmarting traps, square-dancing deadly monsters and managing the snack economy to make sure everyone got packed lunches, this is your game!
Legend of Grimrock 2 which I have been playing for some time suddenly will not load after an upgrade. Can this be fixed ?
I don't know if I am going to be in the minority over this but in my honest opinion... the first one was better.
Yes, I know. The environment is a lot better than in the first game, it's longer, there's more enemies, there's more loot, so... technically the game should have been improved, right?
Well, not really. While the game does shine in those categories, it has problem from a technical and gameplay standpoint that I felt like the first one did better. From the technical standpoint, the game has longer loading times than the first game, for some reason? And sometimes it will crash when you try to load the game. Now it seems this is a problem due to the lack of optimization for the newer system, so hopefully Almost Human Games (I am not sure if they are still around at this point) can make some kind of remaster to make the game run better on modern systems.
Then there is the big part: The gameplay. Genuinely the game feels harder than the first game, but also deaths feel cheaper. My biggest gripe with the game is the new system where your character can have wounded body parts. This happens randomly and it is absolutely annoying. So imagine you are in a room full of enemies, and one enemy hits your party from the back. One of your characters suffered a foot injury and now not only the movement is slowed down, but also his carry limit is reduced, which makes the entire party immobile. There is no avoidance to this, this happens randomly and there is no strategy against it. You have to either use the blue crystals which are very valuable or go to the nearest crystal to go back at full health. I hate this, it doesn't bring challenge, it's just a cheap RNG disability that they give you randomly.
Another problem is scaling. Some of the mobs that I encountered from the early game are also encountered in the late game, and even though my party is stronger and has better armor and weapons, somehow the enemy is scaled so they take equal amount of hits and if surrounded they can still kill your party. One such example are the mosquitoes. I also hate this, I never was a fan of enemy scaling in Oblivion, and neither am I a fan in this game as well. If you are stronger, you should be able to one shot weaker enemies. It's absolutely unnacceptable that a crab I fought from the first dungeons takes the same amount of hits in the last dungeon.
Some of the puzzles don't make sense, and I had to look up a guide to actually solve them. I never used a guide in the first grimrock game.
Even though I enjoyed the first one more, I am still giving this game a thumbs up. I think it's still fun and you could still enjoy the new environment and new mechanics. I kind of wished they made a third game though, but we will see.
really fun combat and world exploration, puzzles are a bit hard
Es very fun 100% would play again
I had this on my wishlist for a while. This is the type of games i grew up playing. I finally got it and not only is there not much there, but it crashes everytime I try to save it...making me start all over. Kinda sad I was really hoping to like this one.
The clunky 4 party member controls with what feels like it should be turn-based but still having singular enemies feel as strong as or slightly stronger than your 4 party members is ridiculous given that actions happen in real-time. Limited experience progression makes this even worse, and the first boss feels just way too strong given these factors, especially if your damage involves spellcasters who have low health, low armor, and the spells take a few sections of clicking around to execute. It seems like most people(after looking around online) specifically optimize with particular race/class combinations, and I greatly dislike all the offered species besides Human. I don't want to play as bug-people or furries. At least offer Human/Elf/Dwarf/Orc not bug-people/lizard/minotaur/skaven-ripoff
Refunding this garbage

iNot quite as scenic as Grimrock 1, Graphic not so nice in outdoor scenes, and the puzzles feels too much as puzzles, attached from the tone of the game. I guess its quite allright, but nevertheless a dissapointing sequel to a great number one.
This is a weird one. I liked it but I lost interest midway through only to pick it up again and finish the same run months later. I remembered basically nothing and I was in the middle of the game. It was dreadful trying to remember what I was doing and what I had to do. But somehow, I got through. It is a cool puzzle game/dungeon crawler but for my liking it is a little bit too long.
one of the best in the genre
