The real horror are the controls
Game costed money I feel I wasted was not the game for me
this game is really shit
threw the first part of the game i expirenced horrible gameplay and the levels would not load and it would crash every time i got on
This game is great on the other hand cheap but it is also fun and I recommend everyone buy it 👍
The entire premise of this game is basically summed up in its own title; Horror in the Asylum. It's a horror game, and it takes place in the overused setting of a decrepit mental institution. Taking a look at the trailer and screenshots on the store page immediately brings to light that this game is essentially an asset flip; anyone who has played a decent number of these Unity Personal Edition indie cash-grabs will notice that. While that doesn't necessarily indicate that the game itself will be garbage, more often than not, it will be.
In this case, that's exactly what Horror in the Asylum is; cash-grab garbage that tries too hard to be difficult, and offers little to no scare value while creating near impossible situations. You wake up in a dark mental institution, read a couple of notes that talk about taking prescribed medication, pick a few locks, and proceed to solving overly complex puzzles while avoiding medieval skeletons. There's no handholding here, which would be fine if even the basics of the HUD were explained; for instance, what does that "risk" indicator in the top left corner really do? It can be low even when enemies are nearby, and high when no danger is present. It just doesn't make any sense. There's also an annoying dual-control layout shown no matter if you're playing with a KB+M set up, or an Xbox controller.
Be forewarned that there are absolutely no save files or checkpoints here; if you die, you start from the very beginning. This is the "difficulty" factor of Horror in the Asylum, and it makes the entire game one big trial-and-error mission. The only real foes in the game are patrolling skeletons with bad AI, but when they see you they'll chase you down and one-hit kill you if you do not run away quick, or far, enough. In fact, every death is a one-hit kill, and most of them are due events that you have absolutely no way of anticipating, such as a random killer insect hidden in some weird location that you accidentally bump in to; avoidable, though, if you know to have your flashlight off when you get there, but this isn't explained anywhere.
The controls are a beast entirely their own, and they're terrible. The mouse/joystick sensitivity is excruciatingly low, with no way to be changed, and the controller mapping is just god awful. There's no way to rebind the button mapping, whether it be for KB+M or controller layouts. The music is repetitious, the level layouts are boring, there's no real story, the "challenge" is faux and made up by removing any and all save features, and overall the only thing that Horror in the Asylum has going for it is the fact that it does have decent optimization. If you feel like punishing yourself, do so without torturing your wallet and grab this one on sale for a buck or less; otherwise, avoid it entirely.
Rating: 0.5/5.0 - Abysmal, avoid it like the plague.

Sucks game.
This game is terrible I had a look on Youtube at a playthrough of the game the clip is 30 minutes long and he is dying over and over again as there are no checkpoints or saves this happened to me all the time.
The (asylum) looked very much like a game I have played called Horror Hospital (wasnt much good).
I certainly cannot recommend anyone playing this no matter the cost.
To the, well we will use Dev but asset flipper would be more appropriate Adham Jabar. When I typed in your first name in this review the autocorrect changed it to ashamed and I believe you should be releasing this pile of shit on steam.
Well you get what you pay for thats all i have to say lol.
Issa good game, Jump scares are shit though. You know when they are coming, but overall Issa good game.
Could not stand playing it more then 5 minutes. the controlls was terrible rather unplayable and you cant even change sensitivity or anything.. poorly made game but a great idea behind it. 2/10 wont play again..
*Sigh* 'Horror in the Asylum' One of those indie horror games, I thought it might be fun and since I was looking for horror games that were compatible with my xbox controller I thought I'd give it a go. Bought the game for 7 bucks, complete waste of money, there were no checkpoint or saving system to be found, the puzzles were seemingly meaningless and boring. And once you get killed that's it...your back to square one. What sort of bs is that, you could be 6 puzzles through and all of a sudden without warning you get killed by some skeleton or something and you have to start the ENTIRE game again!!! There were no tutorials to teach you how to play and most of the puzzles don't even make sense. I would hold off on buying this game unless you like your money to be wasted and like to play tedious games that have no tutorials, horrably designed levels, crap storylines, clueless npc opponents and aweful puzzles of which you can't make heads or tails of, and for f***sake no checkpoint or saving system! Very disapointed I give this game a 2/10 for atleast making me occupy 40 minutes of my time. Deffinatly not worth even 1 dollar, and I think you are better off saving your money for something else. I wouldn't even suggest playing this game for free.
For a moment, let's forget the fact that this is just the latest unassailable example of Steam's quality control looking the other way so that it can profit from lazy asset jobs because the sheer regularity of that criticism sadly renders it more and more invalid every week. Let's focus on the difference between a 'challenging' game and a 'pube-wrenching monstrosity'.
Challenging: Remove checkpoints of any kind from your game, forcing the player to return to the start each time they die.
P-WM: Wait until the player has suffered half an hour of switch puzzles, hiding under tables from medieval skeletons, godawful controls for the doors and lockpick minigame which punishes you for its own hideous design by forcing you to run around waiting for bobby pins to respawn, and then outright MURDER them by inexplicably dropping a spider on their heads, forcing them back to the start of the game and even having the door codes randomized to slow you down as you slog through the opening fifteen minutes for THE SEVENTH BLOODY TIME.
Randomly throwing enemies into corridors that you can't outrun and kill you in one hit? Not cool, man. So uncool that even Dustin Diamond is looking at you like you crapped your pants in public.
Ick.

"Horror in the Asylum" has a strong concept. That's what counts for me in Horror Games. The strong atmosphere, the musical score, so terrifying precisely because of its minimalims. But its strong point is the creation of a character who gets in the player head. It made me feel totally unbalanced and unsure of my perceptions. This game creates the feel that you can not trust your mind and that's intimate storytelling. All the negative points I have read are easily solvable. This game has a soul and that's not easy to achieve... I'm sure the developer will hear the complaints and will act on them. I'll keep playing this game and will support the developer. Excuse my English (I'm from Spain). Take care and play safe :)
This game will appeal to people who enjoy jump scares. It will also appeal to people then enjoy memorizing entire levels. On the other hand, starting all over isn't the greatest thing. I wish this game hadcheckpoint, unfortunately it doesn't. There's a lot of memorization this game and if that's what you're into then good luck. I recommend this game although in my own personal opinion I would give it a 7 out of 10. Check out my gameplay on YouTube and Noxious Productions to see what I'm talking about.

Here is my first impression review of Horror in the Asylum. While I found the game to be very beautiful in how it looked and I liked the ambient noise that went with it. The over all gameplay and controls were not that well designed. You are almost forced to play the game with a controller, but you still need a keyboard and mouse to select choices for a new game or any options so the design of the interface felt like it was not really optimized as far as it could be when the option was given. I go into more detail and you can see what I mean in the video below.

It's a bit tricky to play at first, but I gradually got better at it!
