It got some great some great gameplay at some point but at others it is just horrible ,specifically the last boss fight ,I dont know what was the problem 2nd hardest difficultly it was a horrible experience
Furi is a game about the indomitable human spirit to escape France at any and all costs.
After 9 years, I finally got around to 100%ing the achievements, and I felt I really ought to give a recommendation to this fantastic game.
There is something truly stunning about this title. The gameplay, music, sound design, and replayability is incredible. The visual style and story beats may be slightly more controversial depending on your preferences, but personally I think it's all done incredibly well.
It's not as polished as it could be in regards to the UI and controls, but when you consider this was an indie studio's first attempt at a non-mobile game, I'm able to find it charming moreso than frustrating. A controller is recommended but there are plenty of speedrunners and the like who prefer kbm. Either is perfectly fine for beginners.
Speaking purely objectively, an 8 out of 10 might be fair. But it's hands down one of my all time favorite games.
If you already like bullet hell / boss rush games the $20 price tag is more than deserving. Otherwise pick it up during a sale.
PS: French dub is the best experience IMO
Furi is one of the best games that I have ever played. It is immensely challenging and rewarding as you get better with the combat.
Combat is simple, slash, shoot, dodge and parry are your main options. How you weave these together into a flow is what makes a difference. You will fail again and again but rise better each time.
On top of the gameplay, there is a top notch story and immaculate OST in the background. The visuals give a great 80s synthwave/vaporwave and cyberpunk style that I also adore. Overall, a masterpiece of a game.
Fair warning, it is quite challenging. Not for the faint of heart. But give it a chance and you won't be disappointed.
The game flips back and forth between being great and being tedious.
Hack n Slash stuff is 8/10, with only 2 real complaints.
1. That you are forced to play reactively. You always must play by the boss' rules and are punished until you wait and react the way that the game wants you to. If you keep attacking and parrying the bosses counterattacks, the boss can just decide to infinitely dodge all of your attacks until you stop and let them have a turn.
2. There are set animations that play when you are hit by a grab attack, follow up on a charged attack and attack after a perfect parry. These animations are all about 5 seconds long and break the flow of the fight imo
This should have been the part of the game that was focused on and refined. I could easily see this game being excellent if that were the case. Unfortunately, this game is split 50/50 with being a Hack'n'Slash and being a Bullet Hell.
The Bullet Hell half of the game consists of dodging attacks for what can be upwards of a minute at a time before you are allowed to deal any damage to the boss again, or dodging attacks for what can be upwards of a minute at a time while you are firing a crappy little pistol that does very little damage and sounds like it should deal even less. It's just boring. Let me hit the boss. There are some bosses that are entirely a bullet hell, with no melee combat, and they are EASILY the worst boss fights in the game, feeling like they stretch on for way, way too long.
There isn't much of a "story" but what is there is fairly interesting, with a long walk to the next fight while a character gives you some vague worldbuilding or hypes up the next boss.
Music is excellent for the most part. Some absolute bangers. But there are some duds as well, such as one of the final bosses having maybe the most forgettable track in the game.
TL:DR - Great Hack'n'Slash game dragged down by slow and tedious Bullet Hell sections. 7/10
Thought it was a music album with cool art cover for years, but jailer is the key kill him and you'll be free.
Amazing game, amazing music, thought provoking story that sticks with you.
Please understand that the game is made extremely hard ON PURPOSE, it literally designed to not be for the faint of heart! It is for the patient, persistent, relentless players. This isn't a game where you can overlevel and conquer a tough challenge, the game itself IS THE CHALLENGE. If that's what you want out of a game, look no further.
extremely underrated game, definitely deserves more players and the ost is fire
Fucking Rad, best combat system I've ever played around with
If you love games like Devil May Cry, Sekiro, Bayonetta, etc. You will absolutely adore this game, it's a boss rush with a really damn satisfying move set. Only downside is the downtime between each boss fight, but even then, those walking sequences build up anticipation to every fight, so they aren't really a downside, just depends how you look at them. 10/10
Perfect if you want to squeeze in 2 attack in clash of clans during those long ass walking sections. Fights are pretty cool tho.
Good boss rush game! so much fun. For me ,this game has 2 cons. The first is that if you finish the game once and want to play the story again, you can't skip the walk section which is quite boring for me to do it again. The second is blue hologram head.........good luck rider!
This was one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences I have ever had with a game. This game does require dedication and a little bit of patience, so I wouldn't recommend this game unless you are willing to fail a few times. If you are able to get over the initial barrier of "what the f##k is going on help me", this game will provide you with near infinite replay value. Just to put this into perspective, I have managed to put around 60 hours into this game, despite my initial play through taking around 2. If you are in the market for a difficult, fast paced bullet hell and this game looks even somewhat like what your looking for, get this game. I can almost guarantee you wont regret it.
Genuinely of one of the best games I have ever played. Short, but a masterpiece through and through. Each boss is incredibly memorable in both character and moveset. The music is phenomenal and every track both leads up to the fights perfectly and matches the theme of each boss. Should be played blind if possible. Keyboard and Mouse controls are a bit jank, but still worth playing regardless.
so i haven't rolled credits on this game, and i may never loop back around to do so. HOWEVER this game is worth it for exactly 1 specific fight and that alone is enough for me to recommend it.
A decent game that offers challenging one on one bosses. It is paced by some long walk sequences, but with auto-walk (which the game does not tell you that it exists), it's not too bad of a break between the intense fights. I played the game with keyboard and mouse, which was actually pretty decent. The dodging with the mouse took some getting used to, but the controls felt natural.
The game is fairly short. I beat it and the extra boss in just over 7 hours. I would recommend it more if it was longer, but it is what it is.
The quality of the bosses vary a lot, some being fun and challenging, to other being just infuriating. A couple were too easy, allowing me to beat it first try, but others were definitely much more challenging. There seems to be a higher difficulty option, so maybe I'll try it later, but the Furi difficulty was just right for me.
I wish there was some indication of what attacks they were vulnerable to - sometimes they will parry all physical attacks, or reflect all your bullets, etc.
The best part of the game is, as stated by others, its music. Definitely gives each boss more flavor and pumps you up. Each phase changes the music, which definitely helps with spicing up the more similar sections between the boss phases.
Overall, 8/10. Worth a try if you like challenging games.
got the game in 2016 wasn't that good loved the game tho and the music then i came back and beat it on Furier with just smidge of practive and man the game i stilll great ouob
has good highs but the lows are extremely low. it feels super un-intuitive and unresponsive at times. and having the last boss be purely a bullet hell slog hp sponge was a very good decision.
After leaving the child orphan i chose pease and kirki, goodbye pinelope. In 8 years i may replay the game to reach the end.
If you find it cost less than the #bosses, i recomend.
- Long and boring unskippable cutscenes after beating a level
- Boss fights are tedious, had to stop out of boredom while fighting the time grandpa
- Charged dodge makes the action feel un-responsive and unatural
- The 3D perspective (not true top down) is not great for danmaku patterns
If you love parry type games, you might like it.
Based on the first three fights, I wouldn't recommend this game. As fun as the combat can get sometimes, the rest of the package dragged my experience down. The animations are jittery, the "walking section" cutscenes are long, and the dialogue neither builds up the world nor helps set a consistent tone. I mostly felt annoyed while playing this, rather than "cool" or "in the zone."
I don't like the combat. I don't like being forced to play a certain way when the boss is immune to damage for half the fight. Imagine if you were fighting Eye of Cthulhu but it's invulnerable when it charges at you and you had to press A and T on your keyboard just to not get hit. The shooting mechanic also isn't very fun, it's not engaging and bosses dodge the charged attack every single time anyway. The soundtrack bangs, but the gameplay just isn't fun for me.
Excellent boss gauntlet game especially at this price point. Not very keyboard friendly due to many projectile attacks hitboxes being semi circle in shape but still very doable on Furier(hard) difficulty regardless. Biggest flaw is that walking simulator sections take way too long and constantly changes camera angle every few seconds making the player lose their orientation. Would much rather see a skippable cutscene
A very enjoyable boss rush game from start to finish, however this game is near unbeatable on keyboard if you plan on doing hard mode due to doding on WASD, being only 8 possible directions, and trust me, you will need more precise dodge movement than that if you plan to go for a new game+. So do yourself a favor and play this on a controller, its playable on KB&M but its not recommended.
The story is quite cool. As for gameplay, the game has two modes, meele and shmup(shoot em up), and CQC (when the boss is at red health, and you can only use your sword). You'll be parrying,Dodging,Charge attacking and perfect parrying most of the game.
The game may not be the prettiest but its asthetics are so good that it's easy to overlook it.
the OST of this game is freaking amazing. Legends like Carpenter Brut,Danger,Waveshaper,The Toxic Avenger. If you know anything about vaporwave, and you'll love it, this game has all these artists working together for the soundtrack of this game, its awesome.
i give it a 9/10 would get beaten by a guy with an oar over and over again. <3
good game. 10/10. i would recommend a hot fix for the [/green (scale?) boss though. on the final faze when theres the grid and bullet storm, he sends out waves and when he does the camera zooms in and out unnecessarily. it makes it hard to dodge while my camera is changing views and i cant see the attack or my perspecitives changing, just lock the camera pls]
One of the best games of the last decade- Great music, engaging gameplay, high replay value, and a really compelling story to boot. Furi achieves emotional highs and lows that many games struggle to achieve, and it makes every playthrough into a real journey. The Chain is right... I *will* go back in that cell, every now and again, just to break out again,
10/10
An Intense Boss Rush Experience
Furi has a simple combat system, that manages to push the player to the limit with what they can do within that system. It's a series of boss fights only separated by short story segments that flesh out the world it takes place in. Despite this seemingly simple premise, it creates boss fights that are some of the most intense and engaging encounters in any game I've played. Backed by an incredible soundtrack and crisp stylized visuals, each of the 11 boss encounters in the game is memorable, challenging, and demands that you understand the mechanics of the fight in order to bypass it. If you enjoy fast paced combat, and boss fights, I highly recommend Furi.
Combat
The most important part of a game like Furi is the combat system. In Furi combat consists of 2 phases. A bullet hell style shooting phase where you must dodge and weave your way through waves of projectiles while shooting your own shots at the boss, and close quarter sword sections where you must dodge and parry the bosses attacks while finding gaps to get attacks in. Sometimes these will mix but for the most part you're doing one or the other. The controls worked perfectly for me, and parrying is extremely satisfying. Each boss has multiple phases, and you yourself have 3 lives. If you beat a phase of a boss, you get a life back, meaning you always have a fighting chance as long as you're alive. When you parry attacks you regain some health helping to keep you in the fight. Each boss is challenging in their own way and has mechanics that you must fully understand in order to defeat them. After almost every boss fight I thought to myself, "wow that was one of the best fights I've seen" and then the next one would top it. These boss fights are long encounters that can take upwards of 8-10 minutes sometimes to beat on your first attempts.
Story
Furi has a story but it's not the main focus of the game. While it is cool to see this world fleshed out, and the build up to each boss does a good job of getting you hyped to battle it, I don't recommend Furi if you solely play games for their stories. What is here works great for the game, but it's not good enough to buy the game if the combat doesn't look interesting to you. You must escape a jail that you don't know how you ended up in. Each boss is a guardian, protecting the next layer of the jail. It's fine, and told in an interesting way through walking segments, and while these can be a little long, they do a good job of giving you a calming break between the intense fights.
Conclusion
Furi shows exactly what's possible with a simple yet engaging combat system when it's pushes to the max. The visuals, music, and combat encounters all mesh perfectly to create a thrilling and demanding experience that will leave you wanting more. Despite never getting new abilities, you will feel yourself getting stronger and stronger after every fight and that's not something a lot of games can achieve. If you want a demanding game with great boss fights, I highly recommend trying Furi. While it's short, it's replayable with different difficulty settings, and a the option to fight individual bosses to improve on your score. For more reviews, follow my curator page.
Fun game. Simple mechanics used which compliments attack patterns requiring sharp focus, particularly in the bullet hell sections.
After having a blast with Hollow Knight's pantheon expansion, this game was right up my alley for back-to-back boss fights. Strongly recommend playing Furier mode for satisfying completion of game.
Amazing music, great art. A couple very frustrating bosses that make you question if your controller is working. Interesting story. Multiple game modes unlock upon beating it the first time.
Bad game design, doesn't allow you to punish the boss after parry or dodging and essentially forces you to play a certain way. Others may enjoy it because it feels like a puzzle/dance with the boss but it's not enjoyable design to me.
On a scale from 1 to 10 id give this game 11, but she would give herself a 12
Always ready to support good devs with money when i have some to spare
This game is focused around combat experiences against finely-crafted bosses. There's core mechanics to get to grip to, and once you're adjusted to that each fight is a fun back-and-forth between the different gameplay styles: jumping between tight & energetic swordplay and bullet-hell pattern dodging. The variation in each boss keeps the energy high and keeps it fun in-between the repeated attempts, as they are not easy. If you enjoy a boss rush game, there's little else you can wish for here.
Really good boss rush with interesting mechanics.
Not easy at first which encourages learning patterns.
Absolutely phenomenal game. PLEASE go in blind for your first play-through, and get ready to have the time of your life. Do NOT let the bosses get to you, everything is your own doing, good or bad.
Some flaws in the game's core design, but after getting used to it (after the 2nd boss) the game kinda slaps, also the music is good.
Flaws:
-Dash feels delayed
-Game lacks feedback (sfx and vfx are very minor for things like stunning the boss, after you parry them they just stand still, and they don't get stunned after every parry so you need to pay extra attention)
-Your dash direction is sometimes based on where you're looking and sometimes based on which direction you're moving which is not fun
-The camera is very bad with walls, very evident in the second boss fight (it's also uncontrollable when it's direction determines your dash direction which is a slight problem)
-The bosses get lots of i-frames, especially during phase changes, and sometimes completely invulnerable during some attacks. If you attack them right after a phase change they automatically block your attack and counter attack
-The heal mechanic isn't your typical mid fight risky heal, you heal when you land parries, which is slight worse
-Between bosses you get boring walking cut scene and dialogue segments
-There are Quick Time Events which involve the arrow keys and if you have a 60% keyboard like me you also need to hold the Fn key, QTEs are dumb, that's what perfect parries are for
"Wow, this games is so fun. I loves playing this game.' I says as I plays the game with excitement.
"Fuck you." says the final boss, who was actually the Fuck you man.
Intense game with lots of memorable moments, definetely worth beating(on any difficulty) if you are a fan of bullet hell and complex bosses.
Tip: you can enable auto quick-time events completion if you get tired of mashing 2 buttons hoping it works(this time).
Keyboard and mouse controls are WORSE THAN ANYWHERE ELSE
This game made me feel like im fighting for that #1 headband it BEAT. MY. ASS. but when the OST said eh oh uh uh ah oh oh eh uh THAT SHIT HYPED ME UP.
8/10 - Pick ya self up man YOU DEAD
COME ON, GIVE ME SOMETHING MEMORABLE. SOMETHING I CAN LEARN FROM, THAT WILL MAKE ME BETTER
Furi is an action ... fighting? beat 'em up? bullet hell? game developed and published by The Game Bakers. I've played this game twice: once after one year of launch and once at the time of thia writing. And I only have two complaints and the first one will not affect everyone.
1) No colorblind mode. There was a patch that was supposed to help such thing but I believe it got worse for me. I don't remember having so much of a hard time with the red indicator (used for AoEs) the first time I played it. Increasing the brightness might help for some people. Wish it had a high contrast mode like Sifu or pick your own color scheme like For Honor and other AAA games. It's not the worst thing ever but when dealing with the seventh boss who can one shot you, it's bad during the final phase. With the rest it's quite forgiving 'cause you can recover health with parries and they won't one shot you.
2) The boss after the credits is such a shift in tone. Like Street of Rage 4, where the whole game you learn to do something and right at the end such experience and knowledge is useless as you can't combo the final bosses. Here is annoying but not the end of the world and after all it's after the credits. You can access the Extra content to deal with better final fights (the second one being ridiculously hard).
The rest of the game is great: the mechanics are simple and it's all skill, the soundtrack is AMAZING, the graphics while outdated still hold and you can challenge yourself with a harder difficulty and an additional gameplay style with the DLC.
Nice game for a sale or whole price.
Fighting through five phases of boss to get back to the one phase you're working on is an annoying time sink.
Excellent narrative boss rush game. Still coming back years later.
Game is awesome and the soundtrack is outstanding!
Amazing OST. Graphics and theme is well tied together. Bosses can certainly be tricky.

Furi is one of the most exhilarating indie game experiences I've had. It is a fast-paced, adrenaline inducing experience that will have you on the edge of your seat the whole time while trying to parry the absolute **** of the boss you are fighting. I hadn't played many boss rushes and bullet hells before Furi, so I came in a bit unprepared and got my ass kicked. However, learning to counter the boss's moves and slowly making progress to reach the end was great. The boss fights were all very fun and a great test of skill, and the music, oh god the music. The Furi soundtrack is one of the BEST soundtracks I've heard in gaming, and I am not exaggerating. Banger after banger, the OST never failed to get me hyped during a boss fight, and to this day I still listen to some of the tracks in spotify. Furi is an excellent game and probably up there as one of my favourite indie games, although I am not sure if it is worth its full-price, as it can be a bit short (10< hours) in length. However, I still absolutely recommend it, especially to any fans of boss rushes or bullet hells. It is a tough gameplay curve, but once you get the hang of it the fights only get more and more fun.
PS
- When parrying pay attention to the sound queue, NOT the visual queue (this helped me out a lot)
This game had an amazing start. A decent continuation. And a god awful finish, including the DLC. The story ended on an awful unexplained note, the last fight is straight up JRPG or non-existent depending on which ending you choose, and the extra added in the DLC is continuation of the earlier one in a very mean way.
Save yourself the trouble, buy the soundtrack and don't bother with the game.
P.S. you are, most likely, not getting all achievements in here, be warned. Oh and doing so would require over 5 playthroughs with unskippable cutscenes and pauses, so "Sekiro" but worse.
P.S. I did like the setting more than the other game mentioned above. I also liked the music more. Perhaps even the art style. But half or so of the combat was not a positive experience.
P.P.S. I'm somewhat sad I bought this before playing the whole thing like I usually did at the time with studios I don't have a previous positive relationship with.
Now I know people think I like the portal 2 soundtrack, but good googley moogley!! thsi games music is awesome! (oh yeah and I had fun with the gameplay too I gues that was a thing too)
it's an ok game
On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd give this one an 11. And I'd give the soundtrack a 12
Space samurai bullet hell with a sick soundtrack. (How am I only now getting around to playing this?)
Overall I like the core game. The problem I have is that it's too short for $20; I would describe the core game as hard-ish to learn, easy to master; and for both reasons, the end game seems to revolve around speedrunning, which I don't care for.
Recommend with a caveat: Try to get it on sale, play it for the experience; don't expect lots of replay value.
