in fact, instead of the enlightened future we daydreamed about while playing silent hill 2 or metal gear solid, we never made video games out to be more than toys.
we only ever gave a shit about mechanics, or masturbating.
Really good game to kill time, not much thinking involved unless you are going for really high scores and its just plain fun. Just hit 300 Seconds and plan to hit at least 500 at some point before putting it down. Overall you get a cool and pretty unique game for a very low price.

Pure and visceral. Minimalist game design at its best. Devil Daggers distills the first person shooter into an addictive survival loop. The audio and visuals are not only tasteful but communicate everything perfectly. With all the fat trimmed off, the game draws you in by throwing the global leaderboard in front of your face every time you die, and climbing that leaderboard becomes enough of a draw to keep playing and improving.
No notes, this game should be in everyone's Steam library.

Nowadays FPS games seem to introduce dozens of different characters, weapon upgrades, abilities, or perks to try to add depth and complexity to the game. Currently there is no shortage of hero shooters and MOBAS that have you spending hundreds of hours just learning what each character item and ability does.
There is an appeal to an entropic assortment if characters and playstyles, for sure, but by focusing on a simple-but-good gameplay loop remarkable amounts of depth can emerge from the limited tools the player has access to.
If you get a good score in Devil Daggers, it isnt because you had a meta build or that you choose a good character. There are meta strategies, but you have the freedom to enact them as you play. It is up to you to put together all of the tools you have available to push your score further beyond where it stood before. There is a unique sense of growth and accomplishment that comes along with that.

I reached out to the guy who did the sound design for this game. He's awesome, and his work is something to aspire to. But even without the sound, this game is fucking awesome. It is so unique. It is its own thing, sui generis.

Do you ever start a new game and you know/feel that this is THE game you will spend 1000+ hours in it? this is the one for me. For a competitive person like me this game will quickly become a drug trying to reach the top of the leaderboard
