platformer meets guns mets aliens
Once again, negative reviews have playtimes with 1.1 hours/2.0 hours. Completely bias and unfair to the game.
This is a weird game. Never have I played a roguelike MMO, and never have I been so satisfied platforming with multiple people. You don't know anyone, but you get into runs with people and there is an unspoken team effort that will carry you from the midboss, all the way to death at the boss.
Sometimes It can be challenging with a million things exploding on the screen/damage numbers flying all over the place. I recommend turning off ally damage numbers in the options menu. I would also like to see an addition to the game where you can limit the opacity of teammates. If you take your eyes of your character, you will die.
Starbreak is challenging, but not unfair. You can leave an area at any time. Every level has multiple sections, so if you continue with 26/90 health and you die that's your fault and no one elses. Dying results in your character's permanent death, as well as any gear he/she had equipped. There is a stash that exists for item storage between characters.
Bosses are insane.
The characters consist of a shooter, a tank, melee puss puss, and a platform creating robot. I'm still pretty early in the game, so I have yet to unlock the last character. However, the characters all have personality and their skills are appropriately designed for their respective roles. It's nice to see diversity in such a small MMO.
Loot is great, only one pickup can mean the difference between decent damage and holy-crap-did-you-see-that?
"Contra MMO" sounds weird but here it works very well. Join the zerg and shoot and loot everything in the way. There's permadeath (and a health bar, no one hit kills here) but recovering from it is fast.
Also, the music is GREAT, it runs well on macOS and supports controllers.
I don't often steam review, but when i do, it's 10/10
StarBreak, the game you have a love-hate relationship with. You rage, but come back to it anyways. (I promise, It's fun especially with friends).
Nice Ideas are in this game
+a bit fun, especially if there're more players around
+loots
-but loots only temporary
-bought item also not permanent, lost when u die
-animation suspend during jump
i'll not recommend this for long run, but try it for fun...
boring
Fun and addicting. If you like platforming and bullet hell this game is for you. Oh, and you also lose everything on you when you die, character included. I've alt+F4 many, many times on some very rage inducing deaths lol. Still a great game that I always find myself going back to on occation.
I like it so far. Although I hate how I die too easily. But that's probably just me.
(I guesss this game is good as it has a lot of posotive reviews)
I am stuck as a blue flame after first death (yes I probably am bad at this game).
Using A or H does nothing extra, neither did returning home manually.
Seems like bad UX and as now I can't contiue, hence the down vote.
Also got kicked from the server after a while and it prevented me logging in due to my account already being logged in....
IT SUCKED THIS IS NOT DARK SOULS
the reason i like StarBreak so much is because of it's fast paced metroidvania action, coupled with a seamless MMO experience. in many ways, this game is similar to the Binding of Isaac games, allowing you to pick up stat items, try different equipment combinations, see how far you can go, and inevitably die, and start the process all over again.
even though character deaths are permanent, your account level is not, and will stay with you forever.
you can gain account xp in nearly any way (boss kills, time spent, performance), but you can only increase the level cap by finishing a zone you haven't won before, forcing you always seek out harder challenges.
being F2P, the money advantage has to be here somewhere, right?
nope, you can only buy very small cosmetic items that reset with your character death, which both suck and is a reasonable way to create income in the game.
i would strongly recommend giving this game a try, however long you might want to play it!
Really good game.
There is permadeath which gets very annoying at times, but over all, it is a fun sidescrolling mmo that will keep you playing for hours at a time.
