Megaman gameplay with Gradius style upgrades mid stages make for a really neat game filled with cool secrets, super charming early 2000s era doujinsoft key art / spritework , and awesome music by RAITO of Melty Blood fame. It's really not perfect, if you died to a boss and lost your dammage upgrades you're boned, the little hidden collectible seigas can suck to track down for upgrades and bonus stuff , and as cool as having an upgrade shop is, it encourages spending a big chunk of the early game grinding for tres. Even if the game is pretty short, it has a lot of NG+ stuff to mess around with, especially with lunatic difficulty and the additional playable character.
Even with the clunk and being overshadowed by its sequel , Legend of Dark Witch is a very precious little game to me.
(You're also better off getting this version than the remake imo. Pretty sure both run on the exact same engine with renovation grossly smoothing over sprites and upscaling backgrounds into some midjourney mish mash for the sake of a higher resolution.)
