Goblin Defenders: Steel‘n’ Wood
Has a total of 6 trading cards.
soooo fun
Great game
I am 32 years old.
My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old.
When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand I desperately needed to ensure I could continue providing.
Upon learning the severity of the self-inflicted damage, I became almost suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man, with no history of depression or anxiety. I had never experienced anger outbursts, nor was I the type to break down and cry, but I was in a tough situation that truly prevented me from seeing the light on the other side.
With nothing better to do, I looked for a game I could play WITH ONE HAND while recovering. Somehow, I stumbled upon this game and read some of the comments. I decided it was worth a try... I must admit I didn't beat the game, nor did I play as much as some of you. In fact, I may have played this game for only a day or two. That being said, after doing so, I had a new joy and hope for life. I managed to leave behind the pain and suffering that had been thrust upon me. I could experience the joy and happiness of other people. I relaxed for 5 ♥♥♥♥ minutes listening to this music, long enough to realize that I would be okay.
After realizing this, I turned off the game and went back to work. My hand hurt a lot, but I was motivated. I stopped feeling so sorry for myself and became the father I needed to be at that moment, not the weak boy I was behaving like.
Today, I am close friends with the mother of my children. We don't fight, argue, or say hurtful things to each other. We are parents and friends.
Now I have 3 children. My third child is, wait, ALSO 4 YEARS OLD. The woman I am with was going through a very similar situation at the time of my separation, and we just unexpectedly stumbled into each other's lives. We have been dating for a year and are very happy together.
Moral of the story: you never know what life has in store for you, and if I had given up when all odds were against me, I wouldn't be where I am today. This silly little game helped me realize that.
Thank you.
this is a gem, worth the money. Very awesome, first played on united airlines, I think they had a pirated copy but i don't think anyone cares.
When I first saw it, I thought it'd be a pushover game. Something that you could complete in a few hours at most. While it's not as deep as many other TD games, it has its own charm. It even has something I haven't seen in a TD game before... bonus sheep round.
There are some downsides.
Most of which is there's not enough time to build at the start of a level.
When you click outside the game, it pauses. That's super annoying in a TD game.
There's a typo in the UI.
It crashed on me on level 3. At least it saved my progression to that point.
But yeah, grab it when it's on special and have a quick game one night.
A decent tower defense game.
Having owned and played a multitude of TD games over the years (from Kingdom's Rush with it's simple graphics to state of the art uber graphics and ultimate SFX games) I have to jump in and state that despite it's simplicity and grind, I absolutely just LOVE this game and wish there was an encore!!! I seldom play games more than once but this is an exception. It is creepily immersive and challenging as well. Recommended to those like like diversity, and unique quirkiness in their TD gaming repertoire.
Played this on an airplane and felt pretty fun so I looked it up. Got it for like 60 cents and spent a good couple of hours on it. Overall pretty fun TD game
Very cheap and basic tower defense mobile port
with all "tactics" heavily based on crystals
which is a premium currency in the mobile free-to-play version.
Levels have 25 waves right from the start of the game.
The later levels have 35-40 waves!
It's as boring as it seems. it's the same types of enemies repeated 3-5 times.
For the notice, the usual TD has 3-10 waves for normal levels, a bit more for "boss" levels. It's pretty much enough to keep the balance between length and repeatability.
Tower defense games from 8floor publisher are much better for the same price. They are also pretty basic and rely just as heavily on the premium currency (being mobile ports too),
but at least the graphics are better and the level balance is more even.
Only 10 maps, but each has 2 difficulties and there are 2 game modes. It also has ingame achievements.
A humble great Tower Defense game. Graphics are decent, show few things but well done. The only issue is that sometimes crash after several hours of playing, maybe because it was made for mobile.
The mechanics is a return to genre basics: there are 6 types of classic towers, with 4 upgrades each, all fine depicted, calculated and usefull. In quite maps there is not pathways, and player can enjoy building at will. There are 12 kinds of foes, with different behavoirs, speed and life points, all are fine balanced. When there is not path, they go ever for the shortest route. Towers upgrades, and other enhances can be buyed by looting coins and gems from dead enemies. It has 2 difficulty levels quite challenging, 2 game modes and 10 maps. There isn't much more to tell, and thats is really good for those players that only want fun quickly. Game includes all maps for a survival mode.
To complete the campaign and maps in both levels with more of 90% achievements (ingame, not linked) takes about 50 hours. A wonderfull game for short whiles, and for introduce children and casual players into genre. But surely it will displease those who seek games with many choices: this is just a little product for hanging out, but it does better than the average of its rank. Its unfair bad reviews make the mistake of comparing it with big developments, this isn't, and its store info makes it clear that it does not pretend to be so. And is really cheap with a discount or in bundles.
Average tower defense games.
Game Information
"Goblin Defenders: Steel 'n' Wood" is a Strategy game. The game was developed and published by Alawar Entertainment.
At first glance, the game looks like it was developed for mobile devices. I guess it was originally developed for mobile devices before it was ported to PC.
There is a second installment for this game series but it is only for mobile devices.
The Game Review
Game Visuals
I want to mention that the visuals in the game are well done. The visuals can be adjusted in the game's option menu.
Game Audio
I want to mention that audio for the game is well done. Even though the audio is somewhat simplistic and repetitive. The audio can be adjusted in the game's option menu as well.
Gameplay
There are two different difficulty game modes to choose from: Normal and Hard.
There are two campaign modes to choose from: Campaign and Survival. The campaign mode features five different areas with two levels each. The survival mode features endless waves of invaders.
The defense towers can be upgraded to the max but it would require an "x" amount of coin to do so. The highest upgrade level has to be purchased from the shop with gems.
There are several different achievements that can be unlocked from playing the game. Each of these achievements does come with some requirements that need to be completed before they can be unlocked. The achievements are in-game only.
Miscellaneous
There are six different trading cards to collect. Only three of those trading cards are given out by the game. There are several ways to get the rest of the trading card: Purchased from Steam's Community Market; Trade with friends; Booster Packs and its' Booster Pack Creator.
Final thoughts: I have found the game enjoyable to a certain extent. The replay value for the game is low. I would recommend this game, but not at the game's full price value.
50/100
A totally mediocre-at-best TD game with boring gameplay..
additionally feel much live VGA grafics come back - no fun in 1080p
Save your money! ;)
If you like Tower Defense games I can recommend this as it feels a lot like Field Runners, Garden Defense, etc. I do want to warn you though it feels like it was made for a tablet or phone. It is often zoomed in and zooming out to see what you are doing can be a bit of a pain. It is also easy to click on UI elements when you do not intend to. I almost clicked NO that I didn't recommend it due to how angry the UI and controls would make me. It isn't a bad game as long as you go in knowing what you are getting into. I highly recommend the author fix this to run at higher resolutions so the entire play field can be on the screen without scrolling around and clicking on UI elements unintentionally. On steam and PC you are not limited to tablet and phone resolutions... take advantage of that and this game will be better.
Lol! Pretty brutal!
I'm fine with simple games. I'm ok with mobile ports. I'm not ok with mobile ports that frequently crash and have a few really silly typos like "amd" instead of "and".
The game itself is the most lackluster of tower defense. Better alternatives can be found for free on almost any flash game site out there. Even at under £1 it doesn't feel worth it.
Worth the money. A small game but I surely enjoyed playing the maps.
Very simple yet quite satisfying.
(05/10) - A refreshing Average
Yes, this game doesn´t offer anything new. It´s just the standard TD with few upgrades, few towers, few enemies and few mission. It´s mechanics work fine altough it might feel a bit clunky due to it´s controls.
It´s an average game.
Then why am i recommending it?
I really enjoyed myself in this game. The unlocks are quick to get (which makes this one of the few TD titles on Steam that are no mindless grindfest), it uses what i has (which isn´t that much) very well and it get´s really difficult in the end which most TDs here on Steam fail to do.
Sure it is utterly simplistic but you actually have to use your towers wisely as the enemytypes counter them perfectly. That fact alone let´s it surpass easily 80% of the TDs on Steam.
It might be an average game but it´s over really quickly which i saw as kind of a positive. I didn´t get bored by it, so if you´ve already played the good TDs here on Steam, you might want to give thisone a try...
Initial Review
It's about as simple as tower defense games go, the sound quality actually sounds bad, you have to really try hard these days to make sounds sound low quality but this game wins at that, the whole setup feels like it was literally a copy and paste from mobile to the PC platform. The ESC button doesn't even open the options, everything in-game is gem based like it would be in a free to play mobile platform game where you would have to buy more gems to buy cool things and I'm not too thrilled with it +the resolution isn't that great. There is even a clear spelling issue in the gem shop in the game, this would be fine if this was an early access game but this isn't and they're expecting you to spend $2-$3 on this.
This is the perfect free to play game for your smartphone.
I recommend you pick this game up for $0.25 (that's 25 cents) or less.
How did they come up with the pricing for STEAM?
I'm guessing they got around and threw numbers in a hat and then randomly chose $2.99 for their free to play game.
I would have not recommended this sooner but apparently I don't have enough time in this free to play mobile port.
"You need to have used this product for at least 5 minutes before posting a review for it (1 minutes on record)."
Update
I did decide to go back and play and my review is still the same, the gameplay is pretty bad for a tower defense game, very simplistic, very few game modifiers besides normal and hard setting / there is a survival mode but again very simplistic, towers are very basic, you have two different speed settings: slow and normal speed, not a lot of content to play through, becomes a boring grind for no real advantage=no STEAM achievements, the upgrade system is about as basic as it gets and doesn't provide enough advancements for towers. This game is very simplistic, cannot stress that enough and wouldn't recommend going out of your way to buy it. Pick it up in a bundle or for very cheap/free. Very basic game in-general and I think the initial trailer for the game illustrates that.
There is nothing exciting nor unique about this tower defense game.
Would not recommend.
