The music and art were beautiful, but they just don't make up for the frustrating puzzles and lack of story. Also I had to put it on mute during certain puzzles because if I heard Alice go "uh-uh! uh-uh!" one more time, I was going to throw my computer across the room.
Really good game. Nice and surreal puzzler with a cool aesthetic. I hope Delirium Studios makes another game at some point.
This Point-and-Click Adventure takes place in a lovely world crafted with a charming artstyle and displayed through a wonderful journey; I can't speak highly enough of the places you go and the things you see. The problem is that getting there is a total drag. The puzzles and their solutions are so obtuse that they almost seem custom made to be as frustrating as possible. There are hints, but they often make little to no sense. Of course, since it's in the Adventure genre, this can all be solved by having a walkthrough handy, so it gets a recommendation from me.
Play it with a walkthrough at hand so the sluggishness and obscurity of some puzzles don't hinder you from enjoying the overall atmosphere.
Beautiful art and some challenging puzzles. This game is not for all people, just for those that enjoy point and click adventures, puzzle games and "indie" art.
PROS:

CONS:
❌ Good music, but sometimes it is too repetitive. I miss an option to mute inside the game.
❌ Music puzzles are hard for normal people. If you are not musician, it is difficult to identify the sounds. Hopefully, try and error works well without taking a long time.
❌ The puzzles are linear, so, if you are stuck, you cannot try other puzzles.
Rivers of Alice is an adorable point and click game. You live the dream of Alice and must collect four dragonflys. What seems pretty easy in the beginning, gets more and more tricky because the people just talk via pictures with you and you have to find out, what they mean. It can be hard to find a solution, even when it is simple. At some parts I wanted to quit the game but I am glad I didn't because it is really lovely and in the end I would have regretted.
The 2d art style of this game reminds me of a flash game I played a while back similar to this. They both had an atmosphere of abstract art combined with doodling with a little bit of creepiness added to it. The progress is slow and quiet so if you're impatient and want fast progression, this might not be for you. I personally like to enjoy these games while catching all the small details and the storylines at the same time. I really appreciate the aesthetics of this and I want to appreciate all of it as much as possible. It can get a bit slow and frustrating at times because the puzzles require you to go back and forth if you miss something.
The controls of the game is similar to Fran Bow except this one has a completely different art style. But I love games like these, it has such a wonderful atmosphere. I got it while it was on sale, so if you get a chance I recommend this 11/10.
Cute and beautiful game, every time I play it I feel myself getting carried away by the dreamy music.
For the full $8 price tag, I can't recommend this. I got it on sale for $2 and change and if that were the normal price I might recommend it. It's only a couple hours long and not all that worthwhile for those couple hours (This is an extended version?). For fun, let's first look at how I would rate the elements of the game:

For a point&click adventure, I expect puzzles and/or story to be at the top of that list. The puzzles here range from extremely simple to extremely obtuse and annoying. The mirror puzzle near the end also seems to be broken for me. They give you a hint but the hint didn't apply to the puzzle so I had no way to figure it out without looking it up in the guide. Some of the puzzles are decent fun but you'll remember the annoying ones more strongly. The story is also pretty non-existant. Girl goes to sleep, has a dream and the ending doesn't build up to anything or resolve anything. The game also bugs out sometimes. When that happens it's fairly easy to press Esc, save the game and then reload but it's something to keep in mind.
As for the good parts of the game, the aesthetic is quite nice, as you can tell from the screenshots. Everything is hand-drawn and even though it's not the most artistic looking game, it has a warm feel to it. The music is the highlight, though. I wouldn't mind obtaining the OST and listening to it while working. It's pretty high quality relaxation music. The best parts of this game were just standing around listening to the BGMs.
The Rivers of Alice was a beautiful, meditative experience. The game was quite lot about the music, but I saw that as a strength, not a weakness. Some of the puzzles were waaay out of my patience and interest and also quite frustrating, but the others like the music ones (pure epicness) made it definately worth playing. The game was a bit too short, but I think I'll play it again in the future just for the atmosphere. Very nice point&click for casual gamers.
This game did not live up to my expectations. The controls are wonky and spatially wrong on some screens, it's difficult to figure out what to do next (and not necessarily in a good-difficult-puzzle way), and walking from screen to screen gets tedious. The idea is good, but the execution is lacking. The art and ideas are nice.
Usually I love games similar to this one, but I find Rivers of Alice annoying, a bit boring and ugly. If only this game had an interesting story I would stand all the issues I have with it but not this time. I couldn't even finish it because it was making me to nervous - and it is supposed to be fun!
I'm really sorry about it, but the only good thing I can say is that it has beautiful soundtrack

Altogether: I have mixed feelings about this game, it would be nice if someone would fix the controls and made that maze a bit easier. Seriously, I got stuck there like HOURS! There is no pattern, no logic to it or what so ever and this pisses me off to no end. Otherwise it would be one of my fave games.
Highly stylized with beautiful artwork and a lovely soundtrack, The Rivers of Alice is, as much as I hate to admit it, simply far too short for its price. According to Steam, I played this game for 3.7 hours. During that time I beat the entire game twice (you'll have to, if you want all the achievements), went to go make lunch, forgot I still had the game open, and came back to it. There's between 1-2 hours of playtime, depending on how quick you are at solving the puzzles. At 7.99, that's honestly a bit steep.
If you can snag it on a discount, though, it's an excellent little beginner adventure game.
This game has some okay things about it. I won't even bother mentioning them, because those things are so heavily obscured by poor programming and an inconsistent (and sometimes very abrasive) soundtrack. Some of the songs are basically just loud noise, and there is no option to turn the music off. That would be fine, because I could just mute my computer, however the game includes multiple sound-based puzzles, so that's not really an option. And while we're on the subject of the sound-based puzzles: they are made infinitely more difficult by the fact that there's a ton of background noise going on while you're trying to hear the sounds you need to mimic.
Overall I don't think this game is really worth playing. It's a guaranteed headache.
pros: this is a beautiful, fantastically soundtracked fun little puzzle game. i mean littel literally - my first playthrough took 4 hours, my second, half that. sure, some of the puzzle are kind of bizarre on first look, but with a little alternate thought they all make sense.
cons: there's little replayability beyond wanting the three achievements that need a second playthrough (and two of those can be done on the first playthrough with some help). also, no real story.
sidenote: the complete lack of walkthrough is annoying but that's nothing to do with the game.
overall: if you like arty, beautiful puzzle games that are challenging but not impossible, worth playing!
This game made me so frustrated. First, the constant walking back to the beginning to speak to Sloth was repetitve. I know he is Sloth but even they find the strength to cross goddamn highways. Second, the puzzles were impossible to figure out. I literally spent almost 2 hours of my total 5.5 hours gameplay on the rubics cube, wire puzzle which was mostly due to the coloumns glitching AND ALSO DUE TO THE FACT THAT WHEN YOU EXIT TO LOOK AT THE SCHEMATIC THE WHOLE THING RESETS. (takes deep breath) Third, the glitches in this game made it impossible to complete the Metal Monster area. The only thing that kept me sane throughout playing this was the beautiful soundtrack and the stunning artstyle. and the fact there is a sloth character even though he looked like a turtle/aardvark. I would recommend this to my friends so I can laugh at their pain when they try to figure stuff out.
Also, goodluck trying to solve the puzzles. There isn't any official guides to this game and the ones out there look like they were done by 3rd graders who hid the class hamster, then drew an incomprehensible map which they then gave to their underpaid teacher who had to play "treasure hunt" to save the hamsters life. This is not an exagerration.
Beautiful, evoking, artistic. And the soundtrack... magnificent. I'm usually not keen on point and click games, but I love this one. Highly recommended!
This game is kind of controvercial: the art is great, the idea behind the art is great, the sound design is awesome, but..
the puzzles are quite unbalanced and sometimes annoying (like the one with vultures); the plot development is weak and the idea behind the game is not well expressed.
I reccoment this game, but just as a piece of art, do not wait for any gameplay revelations here
A Very lovely game, amazing soundtrack and gorgeous art! i wished some of the ''areas'' were longer so we get to experience the music, i didn't get the story when i finished the game :( which is rare, i tend to over analyze almost every game i play! i dont think this game is deep, it was a lovely experience and thats okay. :)
