Dream Factory is a PC (Win, Mac, Linux) and tablet (iOs, Android) based Simulator game. The movie making process doesn't always catch everyone’s attention because everyone likes watching the final result. But many of us really do like to know what lies behind the curtain, behind the stage…
Our approach is to look at the industry in an ironic way. We’ve reviewed many different samples and cliches of both the old and modern Hollywood Industry, and rediscovered the most memorable names who made the filming culture of 20th-21st centuries what it is today.
In Dream Factory you will have to create and organize the movie process, you will have to deal with greedy marketeers and tricky-chicky finance directors, while also having to put all your efforts to butter up capricious actors. On top of this you will have to learn how to build your studio and production company, brick by brick while, dealing with accounting problems and the like.
But it won’t be a boring process, as we aim to take the humor and irony of the real world filming process and bring it into to our game. You can play the demo on our website & give the games mechanics a go.
Our story starts from at the very beginning, that is from brothers Lumiere's era and then continues through epoch by epoch to today and even beyond. That means Dream Factory will give you a glimpse into the future.
In the final version of the game you will engage in the following tasks:
- Studio building process
- Screenplay writing
- Movie shooting process
- Movie promotion by means of marketing campaign
- Solve different complicated tasks and objectives
- Level up your characters
- Discover new movie genres
- Track the needs of your characters
- Act according to the cases prescribed in the contract for actresses and actors
- Avoid waves of fans
- Manage Actors who are affected by traumas and nervous breakdowns or manage situations where Actors have died while shooting a film
- Receive awards and participate in exhibitions
- Compete with your friends and attract their or other competitors actors to your own studio
- Look up the reviews in press after the movie released and track what was done right and what was done wrong
- Buy new territory to expand and grow your studio
We plan to have 21 type of characters with at least 20 modifications to be drawn for each character to provide the game with more variation. All characters are hired via a HR market that is generated randomly during game play. Super-skilled characters (with high fame or status) may be found on the market alongside with unknown ones which you will have to train and grow yourself. Each type of character will posses his or her own modifiers (traits) that will influence certain game aspects. These traits are added to a character when they're born. Also during the process of filming, relationships between your staff may also come into being. These can be both positive and negative. For example, some relationships may influence other characters to leave the studio. We have already show some of the characters we plan to add below, but we plan to add more from the cinema industry, such as Audio Engineers, Movie Directors or Producers, Stage Movie Directors, Janitors, Managers, Handymen, Finance Directors, Marketeers, Costume and Makeup Artists, Extra Actors, Stunt Coordinators.

Doesn't work at all. Hasn't been updated since 2015, honestly shouldn't even be sold
well they decided to stop developing this game and that's just sad this game had great potential
Have you played RimWorld? Prison Architect?
Than you played this trash.
Stay far away from this broken, unplayable knockoff
I purchased this game on sale for 99 cents after I sold a foil card for 75 cents, so I only spent 24 cents on it, and yet, I feel like it's not even worth that. I almost want to ask for a refund of my 99 cents so I can forever cleanse my palette of this awful disaster of game design- if you can even call it that. There is no tutorial, not tool tips, and nothing seems remotely understandable. There are times I wanted to restart my game and hitting ESC didn't even work, so I had to end progress in task manager to close the game. The sound isn't working, and I'm not even sure if it's supposed to work or not, because there is no options menu. I tried to dive straight in, to see if I could figure it out on my own, and before I could even get a room made the workers started to complain of having no bushes to pee in. I didn't even know I was supposed to make a bathroom or kitchen for these guys because I thought the game was about making movies. I can't tell what tiles I'm placing down until the workers get done building it, and there were times I restarted the game and old tiles or supply crates were still there and I couldn't demolish or build in those spots. I had to get out of build mode by right clicking before I could click to close the little pop-ups saying they needed to pee and eat, because if I didn't, I would accidentally click and place a build square. I couldn't stop them from building something until after they got done building it, meaning I lost the money used to build in that square.
I enjoyed the sepia tone colors and the strange characters when I first saw this game and hoped it would be enjoyable. I'm just glad I didn't waste a full $10 on this game...
I wrote a review about this game last year when Dream Factory came out and now writing a new one with new thoughts.
Originally the game was a mess on release but the developers quickly made a patch and fixed some of the problems that were pointed out making it a bit more playable though there was a million problems left to go.
Then nothing further happened and that is where we are today, buyers get a game that had potential but is too riddled with problems to play hour after hour.
Workers get stuck, build orders sometimes don't get carried out, making a movie becomes a problem because virtually 3/4 of the options are in Russian or are gibberish and a whole lot more other problems mentioned in other reviews pop up too.
It is recommended that you do not speed up the game, it causes the workers to get stuck, regular speed does allow some play but there is no certainty that workers will not get stuck again, sometimes building a new building close by unsticks them.
Game time does not matter as the date and time does not match as days change every couple of minutes on the clock.
You cannot write over save games so you have to save the name in a new slot every time.
What is very concerning is that it seems the developers left this game behind to make Cyber Team Manager and then went on to make a game called The Legions of Rome.
Cyber Team Manager has the same complaints as Dream Factory and they missed their target of a February 2017 update and blaming Unity problems for the previous lack of updates.
The Legions of Rome that is that is considered unplayable and the current game is rating better than DF and CM but it has been untouched for quite some time.
So there you have it, Dream Factory is a do not buy at any price game unless you have to have it in your Hall of Shame collection or feel like you want your patience severely tested.
Not a very good game, its the only game out of my 400+ games on steam thats crashes and glitches. There is cards drops tho and after a fix here and there this game would be ok
Imagine mergin Prison Architect and The Movies and you get "the idea" behind Dream Factory.
BUT
I understand it is Early Access but this game still in prototype built at the moment and is absolutly unplayable. I would totally recommend the game in a much later stage of dev but at this current state you should AVOID.
Pros:
Decent gfx
Good idea
Cons:
Too many bugs to be payable
Not enough content to enjoy anything
Complete waste of time and money. Refunded.
No type of instructions or tutorial at all. Extremely hard to figure out how the game works or what you are suppose to do. Do not recommend!
