AI is awful
can't you even program a few different AI opponents? Like, randomize them of course, and have a soviet player gun for europe early. Have an american player play turn 7 obsticles. have an opponent for both sides that plays defcon risky. etc.
Good digital version of the great board game. Best when playing against humans. AI isn't great but good for learning the game.
Unapproachable. Unintuitive. Unfun.
I love Twilight Struggle. My favorite game ever.
Ok I am giving it a positive review BUT the defcon will hover at 2-3 the whole game which means there is all sorts of occasions where by accident you will insta loose. Bury in your soul the "DEFCON Warning" because even if you don't know why (eg forgetting to do the event first to raise defcon before conducting a coup or a random card being taken from your hand which then is played and degrades DEFCON but YOU loose etc etc). I would have won almost all my games if I just PAID ATTENTION!!!!
Seemingly perfectly balanced, agonizing choices, with just enough of a luck factor. What's not to love?
Awesome game...
This game really makes you want to learn to about history in the best way possible
this is like chess, nah this is chess but in the form of cards, also make sure to give the US +2 when setting up a game, its how its usually played
this is the best game that has ever been made
While the game is somewhat complex its enjoyable, and actually has surprisingly good replayability. The game AI is actually good so single player is fun, although their early game choices don't vary that much. Overall the game definitely represents the board game well and is good fun
Took me several hours of play in real-life and digitally to realize this game is not a game of skill. Game of history? Sure. But your chances of winning are likely on a litany of die rolls you will lose. Sorry, GMT. This was not what I wanted.
If you enjoy the boardgame this is a good adaptation.
Good
An excellent version of the board game classic. All functionality is here and it is a good substitute for those times you cannot play at home with a friend.
Really good grand strategy, especially for those history fanatics. Never underestimate the AI
If you like boardgames, and long, drawn out games of strategy, this is the game for you. The mechanics of having everything done electronically make a nearly unplayable boardgame really come to life.
Deep level strategy game that is fast moving and volatile!
great port
One of the best 1v1 board games I've ever played. Digital version makes play fast and easy.
Not for me.
What a great game, rules are a bit on the more complex side for a pc-ported-boardgame, but once you take the time to see how the game really works one can but marvel at it's elegance. Also, the AI plays very well.
Don't buy this. Played 6 straight games, last one with a +10 handicap, and still lost them all.
There is no better 1 v 1 board game and this adaptation does it justice.
This version amplifies the charm of the original table top and make the experience distinct. The random cold war speeches and sound effects are a really nice added touch as are the transitions between phases and turns.
Online matchmaking is pretty quick for 45 and 90 minute turns...2-5 minutes.
New players will find this much easier to get into than the table top version as you get your hand held a little bit on the rules of the game, which are complex. Playing the AI is a good way to get a feel for the game too...even though the AI isn't a challenge for more advanced players.
This game cheats knows every card you have and amazingly plays and knows what you are going to play against the PC even if you have +10 handycap, might enjoy playing against a human player
I am a big fan of GMT board games as they are consistently well produced with great game play mechanics, design and well researched and so got this PC version to play online so as I love the board game I am bound to give this a great thumbs up. Putting aside the fact that this is a great game to play, I really have to recommend this game to people as it really captures the cold war with all its complexity and complications. The game really captures how the slow burn of international politics and influence can quickly ignite as the two super powers fight for dominance. Go get this game!!!!!
Just like the boardgame, but with an AI that will play with me!
great game
Very good, flawless online version of the board game. You lose some of the feel of endless stress due to not holding actual cards, but win some convenience back not having to manage the board tiles.
One of my favorite board games. With traditional board games, I often struggle to find another player, but here I have the whole world. Thumbs up!
Safe to say, one of my favourite games and an excellent adaptation to the board game.
Great game
Crashes all the time on Mac.
This has to be the best 2 player board game. Nobody is ever out of the game, there's always a chance to win.
great game
Fantastic! If you love the cold war and board games this is a perfect game.
good game but plz delete the fucking cia
Very fun and complex strategy game with a fun backdrop of the cold war.
Used to be a great game, but now jus unplayable, freezes on single player and cannot play online. Shame as the board game is a classic. Another case of the designers just giving up on a game which has their name. GG....
Is TS a good game? Yes. Is this a good implementation? Yes. Is it perfect? No.
My main complaint is the game log. I look at the game log/review feature on Rally-the-Troops as the best design of that feature out there. On RtT, you can review your games *and others' public games* step-by-step after completion. Great for learning both rules and strategic ideas. A lot like reviewing chess games. Can't do that for TS with this app.
Frankly, I'd rather a streamlined, no-frills implementation of TS on RtT. Heh, I'd rather everything on RtT...
I'm new to the board game, but my early impressions are that is a very good implementation with an AI opponent available to help you get up to speed.
Will be interested to see how easy the AI opponent becomes over time.
The definitive PVP tabletop game. Dice rolls are a load of bull, but they always are.
Luv the Cold
This is a really amazing recreation of the original board game-and a lot easier to play because the computer does all the background calculations for you!
Great 2P boardgame: good theme, excellent strategy, manageable dice rolling. Expect it to take some time.
