Becoming the town mayor was just super disappointing, just when the game was getting really good, it ends. I had planned to buy the dlc, but after experiencing that no thanks.
A deceptively simple looking strategy game. No do-overs for each chapter; you would have to restart the whole campaign. Not for everyone, but great for those who like this kind of stuff.
A perfect way to unleash my inner American's desire for black gold. Well worth the price, and the DLC's are fun!
Fun, simple game to sink a couple of hours. Can get a bit repetitive but the upgrades in game help to change things up a bit. I can't remember how much I paid, I’m 4 hours in and about halfway through the main campaign game without DLC's, so there's quite a bit of content. I could see myself paying full price for the main game but wont likely buy the DLC’s.
Turmoil is a charming simulation game
Turmoil is a charming simulation game that transports players back to the 19th-century oil rush era, combining resource management with a dash of competitive strategy. The gameplay is straightforward but addictive: you drill, extract oil, and sell it at the best prices while managing upgrades and bidding for land against rival oil barons. Its simple mechanics are accessible, yet they offer layers of strategy as you optimize your drilling sites and juggle fluctuating oil prices. The art style and quirky character designs lend a playful, almost cartoonish charm to the experience, enhancing its appeal.
While the early game is engaging, "Turmoil" can become somewhat repetitive, with a limited set of gameplay loops and objectives. However, the game’s casual pacing and quick rounds make it easy to pick up and play in short bursts. Overall, "Turmoil" shines as a light, enjoyable simulation that doesn’t overcomplicate its mechanics, offering an experience that’s more about having fun than being bogged down in complex systems.
I like it!
fun, casual, quick, easy, excels in simplicity, nice graphics, runs on every pc...
totally enjoyable.
It's just okay, fun for an hour or two, but loses it's charm pretty quick once gas is introduced.
Try it it's on sale, otherwise don't bother
Turmoil, dig for oil, don't pay attention to your money, spend $40,000 on moles, fun multiplayer when you don't have to care because its not the main campaign so you go big and then get kicked from the multiplayer campaign because you are now in debt $200,000.
It feels a little bit harsh to say this, but I'm not sure I'd necessarily recommend this game. At least, not at full price. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed my 5.6 hours on the game, but I've completed it in that time at a fairly casual pace. The game itself isn't particularly challenging, though it is engaging.
I think if the DLC's were included in the main price, then I'd recommend it, but it doesn't feel like there's a lot of game time for the price. And, if I'm being honest, I'm very unlikely to ever play the game again.
The concept is very fun and the first few times it is an engaging process, but it becomes especially noticable as the stages go on, that the game is incredibly repetitive.
The devs seem to feel this too as dlcs have become shorter with more complex mechanics or extra sections to play, which is nice, but I can not recommend the game as it is, after half of the campaign it becomes more of a drag than actual fun.
Easy to pick up and surprisingly hard to master. If ever you wanted a strategy game about competitively drilling for oil in the past, this is the one for you.
Watched people playing this game since i was 10 years and i will never regret buying it and playing it this 5 hours
Super fun niche game with a really fun premise. It has a ton of strategy to it and I think it performs in all of it's attempts excellently.
88/100
Hours of (mostly) relaxed fun, interspersed with short periods of SHEER PANIC! LOL!
Bid for your plot of land, hire dowsers or moles to find oil deposits, build a derrick to bring it to the surface, then hire wagon teams to transport the oil to the most profitable location and sell-Sell-SELL!
Love the art style and the playability.
Really fun pick up and play easy to learn hard to master lots of choices between lvls drilling for oil need to balance between upgrades buying land and stocks the base game has around 11 hours worth of content working on the first dlc now enjoying it so far
Runs good on steam deck would recommend
Had fun playing for a few days, but honestly, for this price, all DLCs should just be part of the base game. The original game itself doesn’t have much replay value - once you’ve beaten both campaigns, that’s pretty much it.
There’s multiplayer, but it feels pointless since the replays are glitched. You can’t watch how other players handle things, just the final results. Makes it a bit underwhelming, to be honest.
Picked it up on sale after seeing some play thrus. Its really simple, very repetitive, and extremely luck based. Any semblance of content is locked behind DLC paywalls.
A great game to play, honestly truly fun. Only found out about it after seeing Jacksepticeye make a video on it and decided to try it out for myself. Fun, not too fast or slow, and just a great campaign! Recommend 100%!
It's fine at best...but I am glad I did not buy the xpacs as I plan to refund this game.
I enjoyed watching some people play it on steam and I think I should have left it at that. Can't sell things so if you accidentally click on like a pipe or fitting and go negative you cant even lay pipe so your stuck for the level. The auction system is really really really really stupid, the RNG aspect of oil pockets is very punishing and the "management" aspect of this game just isn't there. Upgrades cost a fortune and the AI is just dumb as all hell. Idk, the game has potential to be super fun, but at it's core it's not good, I got super bored in an hr.
If like me you found yourself watching some random YouTube videos and were thinking of trying this game, go ahead and do so.
I found myself sinking random hours into this game having fun.
Nothing complicated at all just mining oil man!
The DLC is worth it! Great game, relaxing soundtrack.
What is this game?
Turmoil is an oil tycoon style game where you build rigs on various plots of land and try to become mayor by making the most profits.
Price/replay value
Horrible - Bad - Decent - Good - Amazing
Achievement hunting
Achievements require all DLC, and advanced game knowledge to be obtained.
Most can be easily missed and the stock ones can require entire resets.
Pros/cons
Pros
- Easy to play
- PvP option
Cons
- Incredibly punishing
- Lots of rng for a management game
- Bad AI
[*]Incredibly short
Overall opinion
I thought I was going to enjoy this game more than I did, mainly due to its reputation.
I honestly find the gameplay incredibly repetitive, and seemingly more rng reliant than actually strategic...
-AI opponent randomly gets the best plot of land? Well good luck because they'll now be richer than you for a good while.
-Delvers aren't always accurate and can make you bankrupt before even finding oil sometimes.
-Diamonds are basically pure rng to find as there's no reliable way to know, and find them.
The stock system is incredibly lazy as you'll just be throwing chunks of cash at it, staying within a certain range as to not let AI buy it. Add to the fact you can instantly win by buying the remaining stocks from the now eliminated player/bot.
Upgrades are incredibly expensive for what they actually offer as well. Most are minor upgrades like faster digging (which costs extra cash per rig, after already buying it in town), and seemingly don't serve enough use to actually be worth investing in. With delvers and moles being a few of the only good ones.
In terms of actually digging this game is incredibly fast paced and the lack of a pause button can be especially frustrating. It takes about 4 months of the entire year to even have a delver find oil so most of your time isn't even used practically.
Most of the cool features are also locked behind a DLC paywall, which costs more than the game itself for some reason...?
Overall feels disappointing as the game itself already feels overpriced for the amount of content provided.
tldr;
Expensive, too much rng for a management game.
Should you buy it?
I don't recommend it unless it's on sale and you really want to try it.
Watched this game a couple of years ago on YouTube and wanted to play it too. The game is fun for a while then It's a little bit dull, but I like the achievements.
Great loop. Lots of fun. A bit too easy without expert AI.
Love this game, nice easy play. Relaxing and easy to understand.
Can't restart levels in solo. A simple accidental click under your oil rigs cost you $300. It should be a "LONG CLICK" like in the app to close valves for the rigs. Diamonds are way to difficult to find. You can spend millions only for it to be under the last damn triangle in the map. Truly a rage inducing game. The mobile app is 100x better than this trash.
Its a simple game that's easy to learn but still keeps you playing to beat your last run.
The game is fun, but it is not worth playing because the fun features in the DLC are exploited in order to purchase it, because the original game does not have the same features as those in the DLC.
It is a very fun game I can not wait to beat my veteran player boyfriend at it :D
Pretty decent that will give you what you see!
Everything in the video is actual gameplay, don't expect more.
It's a very linear game but it feel nice. Don't have paly the heat is on DLC but based content is already sufficient. This is the kind of game you only play a few times
A simple but fun resource management game! I purchased it for a couple of euros on a sale as I wasn't sure I would like it and it was well worth it, a good game to kill some time.
Keep coming back to it every other year. Its a nice game with simple, well done, addictive mechanics.
Nice little game with a unique idea behind it. Game play is well done, and is shockingly fun for oil drilling.
Fun chilled game, but would love it if the game allow you to continue to play the game after the champagne is finish. I do wish that i can play the single player with the npc too and not have to but the other dlc just to play the game
A fantastic value for the base price, but a BRILLIANT value for the $2.50 I paid for it.
Super addicting gameplay loop that clearly has tons of replayability. If you look at this and it seems up your alley, it probably is.
get game gets old quick. i redownloaded it because i thought there was an update but its just a dlc. shouldn't have to pay for that.
Live out your dreams as an oil baron just like in There Will Be Blood!
This is a fun game, but I'd recommend waiting for a sale. The main campaign is easily beaten in one day of playing. There is some replayability with the expert campaign unlocked after beating the base game as well as the DLCs but I have not tried either.
Great time waster.
Although the AI for the Vanilla campaign and the Heat is On DLC is terrible at making money, so there was zero challenge. You can play on Expert mode afterwards.
The Deeper Underground DLC breaks away from the tiring "gas-rush" strategy by instead having the players refine their oil to make more money. The AI was better at keeping pace with the player as well.
Didn't try multiplayer.
8/10
For the price it's worth checking out if you like management type games....I do recommend the game but it does get repetitive after a few hours of play. If you get bored easily this may not be for you as the endgame is really no different from the first few minutes.
A great example of how relatively simple games can be excellent, a simple premise with a good learning curve well executed. Thoroughly recommended!
As soon as I launched the game, I was greeted with a cheery, beautiful orchestra of the Mid-West personified. My heart melted. Meeting the campaign characters, such as the stable lady, the city mayor, and Ricardo, it was cemented in my soul that this game would forever change my life. Some may say that this game is addicting for the game play loop. However, looking back, it wasn't the game play, it was the story. The dialogue of the characters showcases their utmost over-the-top and easily lovable personalities. I think about them when I sleep and every waking moment of my life. I feel truly like a business conglomerate in the 19th century, and my gang of horses and dowsers follow me into the heat of battle as I excavate oil from the depths of Dante's Ninth Level of Hell. Daisy is perhaps one of my favorite characters. Albeit her shy personality befits the old woman, her furious passion for business and being a tycoon drives her to the top as one of the best characters in the game. I will forever think of her as a close friend, even if her presence in the real world is closely felt. It tears at me as a man, as a friend of Daisy. The city mayor will be shot in the head by me.
Regards,
Robert Bliss
It's a decent game, but it eventually gets pretty repetitive. Once you get all of the upgrades, it's just more of the same thing over and over; find oil, drill for it, cart it off to the shop to sell it. I mean, Turmoil was only a few bucks, and it's fun for awhile, but it's not a game you would expect to play for hours upon hours at a time.
Pretty fun strategy based management sim. It's real time and you can't take any actions while the game is paused.
The premise and game-play is very simple, but there are lots of upgrades and optimization strategies to try out.
Charming and simple, yet has enough moving parts and randomness to keep you engaged. I've very much enjoyed my first campaign, and I think I'll play a few more. Heartily recommended!
Too simple. Too little replayability.
By the time you reach the end of the second stage. There is no more game to uncover. The bots are too easy/not profitable. The stocks auction lasts forever. Very repetitive after 3 hours of gameplay.
However I would say it is worth the $2.50 if you get it that low or for less. Its enough to keep yourself entertained for an hour or two. Just don't binge it like I did.
Fun little management sim. Nicer on desktop than Steam Deck because of the size of click targets. It would be nice to have better controller support for that reason. But on desktop, it's light-weight, quick fun.

Every run is essentially the same - buy stick guys, buy wagons, buy rigs, wait. It is a waiting game and that becomes boring extremely fast. There is no gameplay variety since it boils down to buying everything you can and you have few options when it comes to buying.
Native Linux support is a plus.
fun game. good mechanics. and they keep adding expansions. youll sink hours into it
I personally like the game. I may not play ever single day but it's a nice game to play if you have no internet.
