this game is a time capsule of simpler times for me, i try to revisit it occasionally without getting too overwhelmed with nostalgia.
perfection
I gave up. I played the psp version ages ago and grinded on my free time, now feels like a chore. You need to level a lot of stuff and this version didn't have that useful feature from disgaea 2 and the switch/ps4 remaster where an enemy dies mid-combo and you can reuse the rest of the characters that did not attacked. I bought the switch version on black friday and I takes a quarter of the time to do the meaningless stuff. All this version had to offer is a free Plenair from the begining, and quite nice filters and graphic options but is way too slow.
Disgea PC started as a lackluster port of a great classic PS2 era game. But with time and mods it's become a pretty solid way to experience the start of the great series that is Disgaea.
It has some odd filler mechanics and isn't quite as deep as some later entries but the story and characters are still some of the best to this day and the sense of progress from grinding is still immaculate all these years later.
Hard to say of this is the best version, especially with Disgaea 1 Complete out there. But well worth a shot if you have even a passing interest in the gameplay or the riduculous and hilarious story.
After so many years this game still rock.
Although i loved disgaea 2 the most, This game comes so closed to it.
The characters are so memorable and its the best cast in the disgaea series.
The art is always amazing and beautiful to look at.
Man this still amazing me how great this game is after so many years.
It not so great like the item world being perrty shit.
Disgaea 1 is the first Disgaea game, which makes sense if you think about it.
It's also the game where the disgaea formula was both introduced and kind of already perfected. Newer titles in the series add quality of life, and start letting your automate certain parts of the grind. But everything that makes the series good is here from the start. So if you're looking to get into the series then I don't need you to start with 100% this one, but I would recommend starting here. If you like it then you'll only like the newer titles better and if you don't then the newer titles aren't going to give you something different.
I'll also say this, if you're looking to one hundred percent the game and you've never played a disgaea before then it's going to be a pain in the ass to figure out the inner workings of the game. You don't need to know shit about how this game actually calculates stat-increases on level-up or that you get a bonus out of equipping a character with multiple items with the exact same rarity values. You can just play the game. But if you want to 100 percent the game, if you want to get that 10 million damage. Then you will need to look that up, and the disgaea wiki sucks.
Additionally while the writing can be childish, when it's good it's good. I ended up really liking the dynamic that Etna and Flonne have, because they really are just besties. Laharl also really grows on you and the three of them together do just make for a very entertaining core that the rest of the writing gets to bounce around.
Litteraly unplayable, first the game wasn't able to start due to something who wasn't dl with it, then it's impossible to save+it's the old version with the improvement
love this game, haven't beat it yet will re-update review when i do, leveling up is something that i haven't figured out / i want to be a HIGH LEVELED 9999 MOTHERFCKER!!
there's some humor in the game dood, it's actually enjoyable.
only con is the game hurts my head for some reason, i'm unsure why though
Still grinding my prinny named "Laharl" until he is strong enough to solo and 100% the game.
Pleases the deepest recess of the brain that likes it when numbers get larger. That along with a decent main story that has it's moments i'd say it's a solid game. It's age certainly shows with lacking QOL in some areas but overall a fun experience. Worth it on sale if you have the incremental itch.
This has been my first experience with Disgaea series. Given the game's old age, there are a few number of inconveniences such as the dialogues and action sequences being unskippable. However, the characters were quite memorable and their designs were good too. I can't say its story was great, but it sure was entertaining.
couldnt enjoy it, not my type of game, but others might love it!
Flonne a cute!
Future titles have streamlined the experience, added great mechanics and jacked up the fidelity, but it all started here.
I couldn't finish it.
But not because the plot was bad. In fact, I liked the story. It was even touching, at times. But there was so much grinding to get to the good parts, that I just gave up. All that effort was not worth my time.
Love to play this game again !!!
HAAAAAAaaaaa!!!HAHAHAAHAAAAAAAAAAAAaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Would play if every human character was not butt naked, how tf am I supposed to play this in front of people.
Remove annoying voicelines and add clothes, then It would be great
Prinnys are cool
While its artstyle is very unique and charming, and the game holds up pretty well even today, personally i find the game just too hard to be fun, with many dated game design decisions and mechanics which are way too punishing, like the total lack of autosave and the impossibility of leveling up healers via, you know... healing?
Overall i find the game simply isn't for me, but your mileage may very if you have the patience for grinding and accepting that this game is a product of its time (2003). On the technical side, honestly it's not even a very good port, with many features missing (compared to Disgaea Complete on Switch) and some settings actually broken (like fullscreen).
For those who have a Steam Deck, the game runs very well there and with 1200x800 native resolution and controller support it looks really good out of the box.
No volume....bummer
Everything bad you can think a game can have you will find here. This piece of shit have soft locks inside missions with that idiot color panel thing. If one invencible piece spam inside the exit portal you can't continue. Also control are pure crap with mouse keyboard. The deephs of the arena is only there to make your game session a nightmare.
It's fun.
old but good, i find that the character building is my favorite part
horrific clothing shortage in hell
A Strategy-RPG that I've played for over 20 years by now from PS2. It's the foundation of a great series that I recommend checking out at the very least for it's gameplay & story.
My overall game experience 10/10
I've bounced off of tactical RPGs before, but this one kept me hooked. I love it, will be playing the others for sure.
Fun classic strategy game with a unique art style.
where was mid boss during jan 6
I love this series and it feels amazing to play again after so many years!
Disgaea is a classic. While getting through some of the endgame content can be a bit of a tedious grind, even just playing for and enjoying the main story is well worth picking up the game. It's witty, enjoyable, and has consistent character growth that really draws me in as a player.
It's the game. I played it.
ONE OF THE BEST TACTICAL RPG AVAILABLE <3
Classic game. A bit grindy but I love the battle system. If you like Final Fantasy Tactics, you'll love this game.
No text speed or skip options make replaying very painful.
I struggle with games like these. They practically beg for you to keep working harder and harder on finding more efficient ways to grind and power up and before you know it you're 66 hours into the game and still on the second chapter. I think it is a great game for a particular mood.
Apart from the paedophilic character designs..
this game is quite fun indeed!
PEAK ASF.
I recommend this game as a good introduction to the strategy JRPG genre. This game has everything, great story, memorable characters, and fantastic soundtracks. This game will keep you busy and after finishing the main story there's still plenty to do. However, keep in mind that the game doesn't come with the quality of life features that are implemented in future titles, but I urge you to play it because of its story.
So turns out if you do friendly fire you get the bad ending.. wish i knew that couple hundred hours ago.. :V
