I wish I could recommend it but the whole concept of the game is just shouting in your mic :( It's very cute but not really worth your money unless it's on sale

I am 32 years old.

My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old.

When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand I desperately needed to ensure I could continue providing.

Upon learning the severity of the self-inflicted damage, I became almost suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man, with no history of depression or anxiety. I had never experienced anger outbursts, nor was I the type to break down and cry, but I was in a tough situation that truly prevented me from seeing the light on the other side.

With nothing better to do, I looked for a game I could play WITH ONE HAND while recovering. Somehow, I stumbled upon this game and read some of the comments. I decided it was worth a try... I must admit I didn't beat the game, nor did I play as much as some of you. In fact, I may have played this game for only a day or two. That being said, after doing so, I had a new joy and hope for life. I managed to leave behind the pain and suffering that had been thrust upon me. I could experience the joy and happiness of other people. I relaxed for 5 ♥♥♥♥ minutes listening to this music, long enough to realize that I would be okay.

After realizing this, I turned off the game and went back to work. My hand hurt a lot, but I was motivated. I stopped feeling so sorry for myself and became the father I needed to be at that moment, not the weak boy I was behaving like.

Today, I am close friends with the mother of my children. We don't fight, argue, or say hurtful things to each other. We are parents and friends.

Now I have 3 children. My third child is, wait, ALSO 4 YEARS OLD. The woman I am with was going through a very similar situation at the time of my separation, and we just unexpectedly stumbled into each other's lives. We have been dating for a year and are very happy together.

Moral of the story: you never know what life has in store for you, and if I had given up when all odds were against me, I wouldn't be where I am today. This silly little game helped me realize that.

Thank you.

Louie Cooks is a gimmick game, and the gimmick is a poor one. The concept is that you are helping a cat cook marmalade out of watermelons and stuff (not how marmalade is made but anyway). Enemies walk in and try to steal your ingredients, and you have to stop the waves of enemies, making this a wave survival type game. The gimmick is that instead of shooting them, you have to scream at them (the game requires use of a microphone, a bit of a faux pas as developers must never dictate to gamers how a game is to be played) or just stare at them or shake your head, etc. So it's like a VR intended gimmick game but "works" in a rudimentary sense without a headset.

This gimmick is amusing for roughly 30 seconds, and there's no additional depth or interest in the game beyond that, leaving nothing of great interest to gamers, and that's backed up by pitiful player counts on SteamDB. More on that later.

From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard.

There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. There's no way to ensure this is running at the native resolution of your display. There's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision.

The game features lazy low-polygon "retro" assets, making this look like a barely functional 3D game from the mid 2000s. It's unclear why the developers weren't able to arrange high quality, high polygon count contemporary assets for the game, and also irrelevant... what matters is that this looks bad as a result of their decisions, a compromise PC gamers shouldn't have to put up with.

The game doesn't correctly account for modern PC displays, UI scaling isn't handled correctly. As a result of this unfortunate decision, text and UI elements don't display at a reasonable size, it's too small to be legible on most modern gaming PCs, and there's no in-game controls or options to correct this. This can render the game menus unusable for many.

The controls can't be customised because the game has such a dumbed down, simplified interface that it's just mouselooking and yelling at your microphone (what fun). The fact that the interface is this dumbed down might be seen as a problem in itself, however... this is a fairly shallow experience if you're the kind of gamer that likes to play games with deep, rich control schemes and interaction. You'll get none of that here.

These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.

You don't have to take my word about how bad the game is, we can measure the interest in a game by how much people bothered to play it. Louie Cooks has achievements, and they show us a very clear picture that the game absolutely failed to capture any interest from gamers. The most commonly and easily attained achievement is for for finishing a level without taking any "damage" (having something steal an ingredient), trivial to achieve, but less than 4 percent of players bothered to get that far before uninstalling the game. That's a tiny, tiny proportion of gamers who even bothered with this. Ouch.

Reviewing SteamDB to check how popular this game was with players reveals a surprise... there's a modestly healthy once-off spike in player counts for the game (it went up to 96). But this isn't consistent with the achievement stats, that show less than 4 percent of players bothered playing the game for any reasonable amount of time, and this spike only happened once. How is it possible for this game to have so many concurrent players who didn't bother engaging with this game? Trading cards. People will use card idling software to collect the cards and sell them, but this won't trigger any achievements in-game.

That tells us people only really bought this game for trading cards, and that's a damning indictment of the woeful quality. A closer look at the numbers shows the game just has a couple of players every week running up the game and idling it for cards, then deleting it. We must ask how it benefits gamers for there to be so many games like this, with no merit as a serious game, that only generate sales from people idling and selling the trading cards.

Louie Cooks has the gamer gouging price of around $5 USD, it's not worth it given the defects and shortcomings with the product, especially considering the sheer number of completely free, much higher quality games on Steam.

The concept is great, but theory is much greater than practicality as the old chestnut goes, the game treats you one of two ways, a throat more sore than a whore, or just expose it to white noise through a phone. The soundtrack is pretty bomb ass but as you'll see it's all good. Needs a touch of work but onto a winner.

Yes this game is goddamn adorable and I wish I could recommend it I really do but there are a couple game-breaking issues.

This game was clearly developed for convention spaces where the oculus rift was being showcased because it just does not translate well to playing at home.

Now, this game uses 2 main mechanics creatively, looking with the oculus, and sound.

The looking bit translates very well to mouse, all you have to do is stare at enemies or shake your "head" (or mouse I guess) in order to get them to go away.

Sound is the issue here.

Despite the game's description claiming " If you're not sure if you want to shout 'n sing just yet, simply turn off the audio-option!" this option does not actually exist. This means that you do require a microphone in order to play which should clearly be stated. The closest you can get without a microphone is playing quick game mode which lets you choose which enemies appear. So in a best-case scenario without a microphone you get to fight half the enemies and not play the campaign.

The second sound issue is there is zero calibration for whatever mic you have. Now I am fortunate enough to have spent the money on a condensor and audio interface rig but even with that I have to crank my mic up quite high in order for it to be loud enough to fend enemies off at a quick enough speed. What this means is most people who own microphones with much less power behind them or use laptop/webcam mics will be screaming at the top of their lungs to maybe be able to progress. An issue that was probably not thought of by the devs since the convention spaces they displayed the game at wouldn't require people to be even relatively quiet.

The other sound issue which is also calibration related is pitch. One of the enemies requires you to "sing" high notes... I tried for quite a while until my throat was sore and I either am simply unable to hit a note high enough for the game or it wasn't registering. So I had to whistle which isn't great because I have trouble whistling. So there's a physical requirement for this game, you either have to be able to sing very high notes or whistle.

The last issue would be that although this game would be amazing to try out in a convention centre I don't see any replayability at home besides for small children (but who honestly wants to give kids an excuse to scream at the top of their lungs?). The game simply recycles the same enemies and throws on goggles, watermelons, etc. so you essentially have the exact same 4 mechanics of: staring, shaking your head, yelling, and whistling/singing high-pitched. This gets old very fast.

Besides that there's not much to talk about, very basic graphics options (you get to choose between low-good-very good-fantastic) which don't seem to change much as evidenced by the game starting out in low to begin with and even on high the FPS counter still shoots up to 900 frames which is ridiculous and I don't notice any visual changes.

Came for the cute, got the cute. Though the whole "singing high notes" makes everyone around me think I'm going insane, and it doesn't exactly pick up my high notes.

This isn't a cooking game, more like you stare down, yell at, and shake your head at cute animals who try to steal fruit.

Stuck on the island part where you have to defend from 50 but I gave myself a headache from singing an insanely high pitch that doesn't seem to work.

"If you're not sure if you want to shout 'n sing just yet, simply turn off the audio-option!"

This option does not exist in the settings menu for people who don't want to shout or make shrill noises at their computer. It is literally impossible to complete even the first mission because of this.

The developer replied to my review to let me know that the "Quick Game" mode allows played to toggle off the Cutie types that require sound to repel. The campaign is still unplayable without a mic, however, so my review still stands.

I haven't even opened the game. It's just been "running" in the background. I have never seen this game past its trailer. Save me.
