Basically a Lovecraftitan remake of AaAaAA!!! – A Reckless Disregard for Gravity.
With more talking.
It's a falling simulator in slow motion. More like falling through an underwater tunnel.
There are creatures roaming around that can kill you, despite the ultimate end being death anyway.
In terms of visuals, the game is a bit of a treat. Strange structures, strange foes, a plethora of brilliant colours and patterns assault your senses as you alternate between admiring the scenery and trying to plot your course as you fall, hoping you don't touch anything on the way down. It can be fun, and it can be frustrating too, until you realise that nothing is random, and even the big enemies are following the exact same path each time.
Bearing that in mind, the game can be very short. What it really needs is more levels, or something else, I don't know. Perhaps more levels would only have dragged out the game into being too repetitive. As it is I think the current game length works well. I don't care how Lovecraftian it is or isn't - it's a good game to switch up your genres, or to fill in the time. Plus the price is fair considering the visuals.
The Store page isn't clear at all: I expected a mind-bending game, but all I got was a Lovecraftian AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA!!!!
Although disappointed, I wouldn't mind and play it as such, if only the movements weren't so sloppy, and the mouse didn't have an obnoxiously high acceleration/deceleration.
It's a hard pass for me.
The positive reviews are written exclusively by people trying to prove how into Lovecraft they are, presumably because they think it makes them smart or quirky. The fact that the fans of this game are so cringe-worthy - and that none of them praise the gameplay - should tell you everything you need to know.
Have you ever played Skyrim and clipped through the ground at night and fallen until you died at the bottom of the skybox?
That's this game.
