Свежий взгляд компании ChAIR на классический дизайн с горизонтальной прокруткой, а также современный оригинальный сценарий проявляется еще ярче в Shadow Complex Remastered, где присутствует все содержание отмеченной наградами оригинальной игры, но реализована более богатая графика, добавлены абсолютно новые динамичные элементы ближнего боя, а также дополнительные достижения и главные испытания.
На протяжении 10 с лишним часов исследования уровней и динамичных битв игроки открывают бонусы, позволяющие преодолевать препятствия, рассеивать легионы врагов и все глубже погружаться в таинственный и полный трудностей нелинейный игровой мир.
Краткий сюжет:
В игре Shadow Complex Remastered потерявшийся путешественник Джейсон Флеминг проникает в мир государственных заговоров, темных политических игр и военных переворотов. Когда Джейсон и его подруга Клэр случайно сталкиваются с подпольным военизированным формированием «Возрождение», вскоре становится ясно, что движение стремится запустить цепочку событий, которые должны ввергнуть Америку в новую гражданскую войну. За это время Джейсон обзаводится множеством высокотехнологичных «игрушек», которые разрабатывает «Возрождение», и в итоге превращается в сверхмощную машину разрушения.

Its ok but forgettable.
ugh, painful to play
This game is a LEGEND.
Originally I played it on XBOX years ago, but still an excellent experience all these years later on PC. It really feels like a KONAMI game, but I guess it isn't.
Approved, and then some!
Blue line disappeared.. I understand that is a 'feature' however the map is also wrong and can't find my way to 'meet claire'. Every route to the area I read I'm meant to head to is blocked.
Great Metroidvania game
After hearing so many people call Shadow complex one of the best 'older' metroidvania's lost to time, I just had to try it out myself as i would consider myself a big fan of the genre. I've played over 70 MV's by now, featuring all the best like Ori, Blasphemous and FIST but also many atrocious ones like monster boy, dark light and 3000th duel. Opinions on what's the most important thing in an MV differ. Some people especially those who like soulslikes, would argue that combat is the most important but in my opinion level design and movement come first. Shadow complex nailed the former whilst fumblind the later. Level design is honestly great and makes the game feel like a proper MV, unfortunately movement veers on the clunkier side especially in regards to wall jumping. I cannot really give an informed opinion on combat as i played it on a lower difficulty which trivialized most bosses and encounters.
What i can say though is that the enemy AI is comically inadequette. They don't see your flashlight even in the dark only reacting if they see your body or hear you shoot. They really do feel like the dumb goons and grunts that serve the generic evil guy. Needless to say story isn't really the big focus here because it really feels like a 2000's game in that regard. That's not necesarilly bad though, i liked the cutscenes and animations as they gave me some sweet nostalgia to my playstation 2 back in the day. However it is hard to really care about the plot when it is so generic. The reason i played through the full game to 100% map completion is because the level design was just that good. However in the late game i really did feel the lack of fast travel when i had to run around picking up the final collectibles. Said collectibles are usefull initially when you gather the first few but later on what good is 2 more grenades when you already have 40+?
There's some other collectibles though that do feel more rewarding as well as one that eventually unlocks an immersion breaking cosmetic item that makes no sense but again reminds me of the sweet 2000's era of gaming. Unfortunately this time period was also know for the clunky animations which like i said were charming in cutscenes but in the gameplay they feel a bit spasmic. This further accentuated the poor controls as your character jumps around like he's having a seizure during platforming. The melee animations on the other hand were well done and often followed by hilarious ragdolling of enemies. The whole game is rather silly in its premise and execution so playing it like rambo feels adequette and entertaining. Which is why i'm glad i went with a lower difficulty because it allowed me to blast through mech bosses and literal armies at the end.
Visuals then hold up well enough in terms of texture quality thanks to the remaster. And given how many different background elements they are, assets are also of considerable quality. I was actually quite amazed how little copy pasting there was in terms of environments, which is rare for an MV. The 2.5D looked pretty good given it's age but the closest comparison, FIST forged in shadow torch, had more charm to it. Maybe the more grounded setting taking place on actual earth was what made it lose some charm as i prefer fictional worlds. Still though the place does feel like an underground complex and little details add some character. However the generic soundtrack does little to elevate the atmosphere beyond that. At least your immersion won't get broken due to framerate issues or crashes although some bugs can be encountered. It's a decent enough game that sits in the upper middle of the MV tier list.
I suppose you could refer to it as some sort of roid-vania. I like to call it GI Chad vs Metal Gear Solid Guards: The VR Missions".

Great game! Must have played it at least 3 times, twice on XBLA, and once now here on Steam. Good easy fun, not too complicated, but complex enough to feel meaty. Don't look for a life changing experience with this one, just a fun Metroidvania perfect for the Steam Deck!
