Piloting a weak exploration ship, you are in search for a new homeworld for your people - that is, until you are lured into a trap by the Dark Order. This has you end up deep in unknown enemy space, with no allies or friends. Alone.
Your attempt to escape will put you in the path of numerous enemies. Fight to survive, gain experience, level up and get improved weapons and equipment. You will die, but you will also get stronger!
As you gain experience and level up, your ship gets stronger (improved hull strength, bigger shield capacity and more powerful engines), and you'll get skill points to help improve various aspects of your ship.

- Turn-based Game Play
- Gain experience, level up, die, get stronger, start again. Rinse and repeat!

- Customization - choose your play style - defensive / aggressive / adaptive

- Aggressive - Focus on POWER - take out the enemy before they get a chance to damage you! Divert more power to weapons. Modify equipment hard points to mount even more weapons.
- Adaptive - Focus on energy transfer to easily adapt to the current circumstances. Divert all power to engines to flee if you're in a tight spot OR divert all power to weapons for a quicker kill OR divert all power to shields to outlast your enemi

Its a cheap pace roguelike. Worth the price I suppose...
Super basic little budget strategy game not even fit for mobile devices. There are a few neat ideas but otherwise this is felt like a bit of a waste. Even for a buck i'd still say pass on this one.
I have no idea what the game is. 8hrs? i don't even remember the games name lol..... Must have been one of my drunk nights in outer space or something..... I recommend it only because i don't remember it.....
Star Chronicles is a turn based strategy where your spaceship ends up in a remote area ruled by a hostile alien enemy. Fighting your way through them gains you more powerful weapons and equipment, which is fortunate given your activities attract more and more enemies with even more powerful weapons.
One of the main strengths here is most of the weapons types are significantly different - some are good at taking down shields, some at taking down hull, some have increased range, some are weaker but fire every turn, some take 3 or even 4 turns per shot but hit hard enough to justify it. The downside of this means you often end up swapping your weaponry around every turn based on the next, which slows down the gameplay and feels a bit weird (imagine Kirk being told Klingons were off the starboard bow, to which he responds by asking Scotty to unbolt those phasers and swap in photon torpedo launchers, and then to swap them back after firing them once).
For most of the game the combat is fairly frantic and you are often in trouble and overwhelmed, I did find towards the end - once your movement speed is up to 4 or more and you have the long range mass drivers (PMD and then EMD) you can just peel off one enemy at a time, making the last few levels a bit too straightforward (but long, as the amount of enemies you are fighting is massive), as soon as you can carve out a safe area at the start of the sector to retreat to anyway.
Overall this is okay, probably not the sort of game you would replay as once you have the hang of the weapons systems and how the AI reacts it all gets a bit predictable, but the difficulty balance is good enough to keep things interesting until you do.
Near the beginning of the game, I encountered a ship that had a description that went something like "Extremely tough. Do not fight alone".
I MAY have took a shot at it...
it MAY have led to my almost immediate death
But one thing is certain:
10/10 would do something stupid again.
I admit, I bought it initially for the cards.
But it is actually kinda fun. Requires more thought than you would think a 99 cent game would require. I am about 8 hours in and nearly done with everything, but for 99 cents that is worth it. I'd recommend it.
Im a little baffled by all the negative reviews of this game honestly. Star Chronicles: Delta Quadrant is a great timekiller for extremely cheap (i paid $0.99 for it). Its a turn-based sci-fi rogue-like/lite with very little story. Combat is simple but fun, all ships have both a shield and a hull rating. You have to destroy the shields first to get to the hull. Theres a decent variety of weapons to use to do so, some work better against shields, some better against the hull, some good for both(some wont even work against the other rating, for instance the ion turret will only damage shields not the hull). You gain levels with xp earned through battles and by salvaging unwanted loot (you can also use unwanted loot to heal your shields or hull, the better the loot the more it heals). You can only level up from the main menu however, which means you must clear the stage you gained the experience level on and then exit back to the main menu to upgrade your skills (the game automatically saves when you clear a stage). You gain one skill point per experience level attained which can be spent on a variety of permanent upgrades to your ship (while the game does have permadeath, the upgrades are persistent so youll become stronger and stronger for future runs). All in all its a fun little time killer for under a buck, what more can you ask for at that price?
Step 1 Get thrusters.
Step 2 Swap weapons for thrusters
Step 3 Use thrusters
Step 4 Zoom pass enemy
Step 5 Exit through portal
Repeat
-Reached halfway or more before getting blown up, but interesting run.
Probably can build up a destoryer.
However, if you're patient to take the time to play the game as finding better gear is based on luck and levelling up the skills means grinding the game.
Sadly there is no upgrade for more slots, or bigger ships... not that I know of.
It was okay, but after awhile, it's just the same old thing, just curiosity of what happens at the end.
First game review I've ever written on steam:
I reccomend this game. For 50 cents, it is a nice game. The UI isn't great, but for 50 cents I'm impressed if it doesn't crash!
A pros vs cons list doesn't seem to fit, but here are some perks.
- Cheap
- Simple to learn
- Decent little story line, similar to Star Trek Voyager
- Customizable ship
- Simple, yet broad tech tree
All in all, much more value than I was expecting for 50 cents.
I enjoyed this game enough to finish it, and that took a decent amount of time. When I purchased such a cheap game, I expected much less from it.
I love strategy games and this one is fairly basic on the surface, but there's more than meets the eye.
The game does have some flaws, but overall it's quite solid in my opinion. I didn't think the game was tedious; I thought the missions made sure there's enough variety to keep things interesting. There's some griding involved, but that didn't phase me too much.
The equipment you find is also interesting. There's not a ton of weapons, but each weapon has its place. They're different enough that there are certainly different tools for different jobs. Once you figure out what the weapons do, you'll know that you need to keep several spares so you can swap them around when needed.
I recommend this game, especially for such a low price. I would love to see a second Star Chronicles game, or a DLC that extends the story.
only got it for cards, but the game is boring
only recommend for cards and if you want to level up on your steam account
Well game seems to have potential and looks quite interesting (especially for the price it asks 0,15 cents), but the problem is that it lacks polishing and at some points it's horribly unbalanced.
The developers forgot to include a tutorial. So, we get an instructional slideshow, accessible from the main menu, instead.
has potential, but there are just too many problems. the only way it's a roguelike is that there's permadeath.
many things are unbalanced. as long as things are outside of cooldown, you can swap whenever you like, which takes away any sense of strategic tradeoffs. likewise for shifting energy use. abilities aren't well thought out, some are clearly massively better than others. if you level too much, the difficulty gets ramped up massively high; you're better off just deleting your save and starting over if you die.
I did enjoy some parts of it. Gearing up is kinda fun for a few sectors. Other than that, there's just not enough meat on the bones and too many balance issues to recommend it.
I paid $0.15 for $0.21 worth of cards, and was mildly interested because it was a turn-based strategy.
It actually turned out to be a decent game. The goal is to find a new homeworld in enemy territory and each level throws a wave of enemies at you. You can choose to complete the objective or just find the exit and escape to the next level. On the way you find equipment for your ship and earn experience to improve your base abilities. Your abilities carry over to future games, so you should do better with each attempt.
There are a few things I'd love to see improved:
1. The enemies have terrible pathing. They always take the most direct route to you unless blocked by another ship. This means they won't surround you when they should. To be fair, some levels have so many enemies that if you were surrounded, you wouldn't last long.
2. When you level up you actually have to quit the game, return to the main menu, and select a new ability, then restart. This is unnecessary. It would be nice if it let me pick a new ability before continuing with the next level.
3. The difficulty ramped up quickly, or at least the instructions for the bomber level weren't explicit enough. After having only a mild challenge, I was suddenly killed in one hit.
I have no idea what I'm doing here. Controls are wonky, and the "Instructions" is just a crappy slideshow that does not really explain anything. I have yet to beat the opening mission, because nothing is explained well AT ALL. I don't want or need my hand held... but for something as complex as this, the systems need to EITHER be intuitive or at the very least, well explained. Here they are neither.
Full disclosure, MOST of my playtime is from leaving the game idle overnight to card farm... but the time I have put in has really gotten me no closer to understanding the game or its mechanics. And, as far as the card-farming goes, I only got 3 copies of the SAME card and doubt I'll be able to break even on my 15 cent investment. So... not really worth it from the "Steam Economics 101" standpoint, either.
I'll probably give this one another try sometime down the line, and if it gets the SIGNIFICANT polish it NEEDS, I'll change this review. For now, though, I really can't recommend this.
This is an interesting little space roguelike made in a free version of unity. It has promise, but may not be worth your time.
Pros:
Cheap. At the time of purchase this only cost 15 cents.
Decent help. The help screens if you flip through them do a pretty good job of explaining how to play. Some of the art assets are OK.
Cons:
This is a very rough around the edges product. There is a lot of polish missing.
Small spelling errors throughout ("sacrifise", "3 enemies is approaching", etc.)
Gameplay itself is both easy and boring, and yet also tedious. You start off slow and will be hitting the end turn button a lot.
The map does not scroll with you which gets annoying as soon as you can move faster.
The art is pretty bad in many cases.
The font is too large. The whole game feels designed for a phone and not for a PC.
The later gear does not have clear descriptions, and there are no pop-up or context menus on anything. This means that figuring out what new gear does is a matter of trial and error. Now you CAN flip gear back and forth for free, so this helps. Sometimes I noticed no difference from equipping a new piece of gear.
A story is told, but you have no input, and I found myself quickly skipping past the screens.
Needing to quit a level and "lose all progress" to spend skill points quickly gets annoying.
At the end of the day it isn't bad for someone's first try at a game. This is not the sort of project that should be sold, unless you like paying for someone else to learn game design. The game is boring, easy and tedious with poor artwork. It feels like a school project.
3/10
Cool concept but terrible execution. It took me forever to figure out how to level up and I never really felt like I understood what I was doing.
At an hour and a half I am having fun, a lot of fun, it is starting to come together in my head. It is more like a roguelike than a roguelike, maybe. I am not expert on roguelike. This is fun, and for the price you should give it a try.
Hey just played this game so here are my first thoughts.....Initially it would not work..so I bitched a bit but I knew in the back of my small brain that the developer would probably fix the problem....so I went of to do something else....
About 10 mins later the developer got back to me saying that he was sorry and that a fix had already been made....just restart steam dude...
So I restarted steam and guess what...?....Yes you guessed it dude..it worked...Thanks develper dude....love ya lots
Any way I got killed really quickly but I now realise this game has an extremely high potential and I am now going to play it more seriously....You have to be really careful with your weapons allocation....
Anyway for now this great little game gets a thumbs up....also the developer for replying so quick...thanks and lotsa love from the UK
By the way remember to pick up the loot by going to your ship inventory and using it from there...If you just click on the loot in the main screen it will go away and just give you xp...which is ok if you dont want it but not ok if you want to install those brilliant new seeker missiles on your ship...
P.S will update with a more serious review later. So what u waiting for...? play the game dude its ony £1.99 and a pint of beer in the UK is about £3.00 so its less than a pint of beer and it does not destroy your brain cells/cell.
